The coupling mechanism between crossed beams energy transfer and stimulated Brillouin scattering in homogeneous plasmas are studied by theoretical analysis, fluid simulations and particle in cell(PIC) simulations. The numerical models of laser plasma instabilities are constructed by solving coupling equations with Schodinger equations form, and the fluid simulation results are confirmed by fluid theory and PIC simulations.In the parameter regime when the pump depletion does not occur in CBET and the reflectivity of SBS is lower than 1%, SBS will be affected by CBET, the CBET energy gain will still agree with theoretical predications. However, In the parameter regime when the pump depletion does occur in CBET and the reflectivity of SBS is higher than 1%, the CBET spatial gain will be reduced by the interaction of CBET and SBS, and the huge difference of SBS reflectivity for two crossed laser beams is observed.In the PIC simulations, we found that lower ZTe=Ti will significantly reduce the interaction between CBET and SBS (Z is the ion charge, Teis the electron temperature, Ti is the ion temperature)., Comment: 10pages,11 figures

It is essential to efficiently solve multiscale flows covering the continuum regime to the rarefied regime. The explicit form of Grad's 13 moments distribution function-based moment gas kinetic solver (G13-MGKS) has been proposed in our previous work [Comput. Math. Appl., 137 (2023), pp. 112-125], which demonstrates the potential for efficiently simulating continuum flows accurately and presenting reasonable predictions for rarefied flows at moderate Knudsen numbers on structured meshes. To further extend the solver's applicability to unstructured meshes, we propose the simplified version of the Grad's 13 moments distribution function-based moment gas kinetic solver (SG13-MGKS) with an explicit form of the numerical flux in the present paper. The Shakhov collision model has been adopted and validated within the framework of SG13-MGKS to ensure the correct Prandtl number in the simulation. Additionally, a simplified treatment for the numerical fluxes has been adopted to minimize the need for complex calculations of the gradient of integral coefficients. The performance of SG13-MGKS has been evaluated in numerical cases of Couette flow with temperature differences, flow passing through a NACA0012 airfoil, and pressure-driven flow in a variable-diameter circular pipe. Our results demonstrate that SG13-MGKS can achieve reasonably accurate computational results at Knudsen numbers below 0.2. Benefiting from the avoidance of discretization in velocity space, G13-MGKS is able to be two orders of magnitude faster compared to the conventional discrete velocity method. Furthermore, the simplified form of numerical fluxes and the fewer gradients of integration coefficients enable the performance of SG13-MGKS on unstructured grids with a saving of about 4 times the computation time and 3 times the memory cost compared to the previous version of G13-MGKS.

The effects of a frequency-modulated pump on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a flowing plasma are investigated by theoretical analysis, three-wave simulations, and kinetic simulations. The resonance point of SBS oscillates in a certain spatial region with time when frequency modulations are applied. There exists a certain frequency modulation that causes the velocity of resonant points to be similar to the group velocity of the seed laser, which increases the SBS reflectivity. The SBS can also be suppressed by frequency modulation with larger bandwidth. In the kinetic simulations, the effects of the frequency-modulated pump on the reflectivity agree with our theoretical predictions. Multi-location autoresonance is also observed in the narrow-bandwidth frequency modulation case, which can also increase the SBS reflectivity. Our work provides a method for selecting the laser bandwidth to inhibit SBS in inhomogeneous plasmas.

Higher intensity of strong-coupling stimulated Brillouin scattering (SC-SBS) amplification is achieved by supplementary Raman amplification. In the new scheme, a Raman pump laser first amplifies the seed pulse in the homogeneous plasma, then a SC-SBS pump laser continues the amplification in the inhomogeneous plasma in order to suppress the spontaneous instability of pump lasers. The intensity of seed laser gets higher and the duration of seed laser gets shorter than that in the pure SC-SBS scheme with the same incident energy, while the energy conversion effciency is not significantly reduced. We also found that the SC-SBS amplification is seeded by the \pi pulse of Raman amplification. The results obtained from envelope coupling equations, Vlasov simulations and two-dimensional particle-in-cell(PIC) simulations agree with each other. This scheme is a simple and effective way to improve the SC-SBS amplification and is easy to implement in experiments.

Efficient modeling of rarefied flow has drawn widespread interest for practical engineering applications. In the present work, we proposed the Grad's distribution function for 13 moments-based moment gas kinetic solver (G13-MGKS) and the macroscopic governing equations are derived based on the moment integral of discrete Boltzmann equation in the finite volume framework. Numerical fluxes at the cell interface related to the macroscopic variables, stress and heat flux can be reconstructed from the Boltzmann integration equation at surrounding points of the cell interface directly, so the complicated partial differential equations with tedious implementation of boundary conditions in the moment method can be avoided. Meanwhile, the explicit expression of numerical fluxes is proposed, which could release the present solver the from the discretization and numerical summation in molecular velocity space. To evaluate the Grad's distribution function for 13 moments in the present framework, the G13-MGKS with the discrete and explicit form of numerical fluxes are examined by several test cases covering the steady and unsteady rarefied flows. Numerical results indicate that the G13-MGKS could simulate continuum flows accurately and present reasonable prediction for rarefied flows at moderate Knudsen number. Moreover, the tests of computations and memory costs demonstrate that the present framework could preserve the highly efficient feature.

We report the phase-connected timing ephemeris, polarization pulse profiles, Faraday rotation measurements, and Rotating-Vector-Model (RVM) fitting results of twelve millisecond pulsars (MSPs) discovered with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in the Commensal radio Astronomy FAST survey (CRAFTS). The timing campaigns were carried out with FAST and Arecibo over three years. Eleven of the twelve pulsars are in neutron star - white dwarf binary systems, with orbital periods between 2.4 and 100 d. Ten of them have spin periods, companion masses, and orbital eccentricities that are consistent with the theoretical expectations for MSP - Helium white dwarf (He WD) systems. The last binary pulsar (PSR J1912$-$0952) has a significantly smaller spin frequency and a smaller companion mass, the latter could be caused by a low orbital inclination for the system. Its orbital period of 29 days is well within the range of orbital periods where some MSP - He WD systems have shown anomalous eccentricities, however, the eccentricity of PSR J1912$-$0952 is typical of what one finds for the remaining MSP - He WD systems., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, MNRAS accepted

We report the follow-up of 10 pulsars discovered by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio-Telescope (FAST) during its commissioning. The pulsars were discovered at a frequency of 500-MHz using the ultra-wide-band (UWB) receiver in drift-scan mode, as part of the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS). We carried out the timing campaign with the 100-m Effelsberg radio-telescope at L-band around 1.36 GHz. Along with 11 FAST pulsars previously reported, FAST seems to be uncovering a population of older pulsars, bordering and/or even across the pulsar death-lines. We report here two sources with notable characteristics. PSR J1951$+$4724 is a young and energetic pulsar with nearly 100% of linearly polarized flux density and visible up to an observing frequency of 8 GHz. PSR J2338+4818, a mildly recycled pulsar in a 95.2-d orbit with a Carbon-Oxygen white dwarf (WD) companion of $\gtrsim 1\rm{M}_{\odot}$, based on estimates from the mass function. This system is the widest WD binary with the most massive companion known to-date. Conspicuous discrepancy was found between estimations based on NE2001 and YMW16 electron density models, which can be attributed to under-representation of pulsars in the sky region between Galactic longitudes $70^o

Temporal evolution of Langmuir waves is presented with two-dimensional electrostatic Vlasov simulations. In a mutiwavelength system, trapped electrons can generate sidebands including longitudinal, transverse and oblique sidebands. We demonstrated that oblique sidebands are important decay channels of Langmuir waves, and the growth rate of oblique sideband is smaller than the longitudinal sideband but higher than the transverse sideband. Bump-on-tailtype distribution function is formed because of the growth of sidebands, leading to a nonlinear growth of sidebands. When the amplitudes of sidebands are comparable with that of Langmuir wave, vortex merging occurs following the broadening of longitudinal and transverse wavenumbers, and finally the system is developed into a turbulent state. In addition, the growth of sidebands can be depicted by the nonlinear Schr\"odinger model (Dewar-Rose-Yin (DRY) model) with non-Maxwellian Landau dampings. It shows the significance of particle-trapping induced nonlinear frequency shift in the evolution and qualitative agreement with Vlasov simulations

The influence of sinusoidal density modulation on the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) reflectivity in inhomogeneous plasmas is studied by three-wave coupling equations, fully kinetic Vlasov simulations and particle in cell (PIC) simulations. Through the numerical solution of three-wave coupling equations, we find that the sinusoidal density modulation is capable of inducing absolute SRS even though the Rosenbluth gain is smaller than {\pi}, and we give a region of modulational wavelength and amplitude that the absolute SRS can be induced, which agrees with early studies. The average reflectivity obtained by Vlasov simulations has the same trend with the growth rate of absolute SRS obtained by three-wave equations. Instead of causing absolute instability, modulational wavelength shorter than a basic gain length is able to suppress the inflation of SRS through harmonic waves. And, the PIC simulations qualitatively agree with our Vlasov simulations. Our results offer an alternative explanation of high reflectivity at underdense plasma in experiments, which is due to long-wavelength modulation, and a potential method to suppress SRS by using the short-wavelength modulation.

Growth rate and gain of SBS considering the reduced Landau damping due to particle trapping has been proposed to predict the growth and average level of SBS reflectivity. Due to particle trapping, the reduced Landau damping has been taken used of to calculate the gain of SBS, which will make the simulation data of SBS average reflectivity be consistent to the Tang model better. The strong-coupling mode, called quasimode, will be excited by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in high-intensity laser-plasma interaction. And SBS of quasimode will compete with SBS of fast mode (or slow mode) in multi-ion species plasmas, thus leading to a low-frequency burst behavior of SBS reflectivity. The competition of quasimode and ion-acoustic wave (IAW) is an important saturation mechanism of SBS in high-intensity laser-plasma interaction. A model of the fluid nonlinear frequency shift of ion acoustic waves (IAWs) in multi-ion species plasmas is presented, which considers the effect of ion temperature. Because the thermal ion exists in plasmas in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) and also solar wind, which should be considered in nonlinear frequency shift of IAWs. However, the existing models [Berger et al., Physics of Plasmas 20, 032107 (2013); Q. S. Feng et al., Phys. Rev. E 94, 023205 (2016)] just consider the cold ion fluid models. This complete theory considering multi-ion species and thermal ions will calculate the frequency of the large amplitude nonlinear IAWs more accurately, especially the slow mode with high ion temperature, which will have wide application in space physics and inertial confinement fusion., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

The study of parametric instabilities has played a crucial role in understanding energy transfer to plasma and, with that, the development of key applications such as inertial confinement fusion. When the densities are between $0.108n_c\lesssim n_e\lesssim 0.138n_c$ and the electron temperature is $T_e=$2.5 keV, anomalous hot electrons with kinetic energies above 100 keV are generated. Here, a new electron acceleration mechanism - the anti-Stokes Langmuir decay instability cascade of forward stimulated Raman scattering - is investigated. This mechanism not only explains anomalous energetic electron generation in indirectly driven inertial confinement fusion experiments (and, with that, future mitigation strategies for experiments on the National Ignition Facility), it also provides a new way of accelerating electrons to higher energy for applications such as novel X-ray sources., Comment: 19 pages, 21 figures

The presence of multiple ion species can add additional branches to the IAW dispersion relation and change the Landau damping significantly. Different IAW modes excited by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and different SBS behaviors in several typical ignition hohlraum plasmas in the high-temperature and high-density region have been researched by Vlasov-Maxwell simulation. The slow mode in HeH or CH plasmas is the least damped mode and will be excited in SBS, while the fast mode in AuB plasmas is the least damped mode and will be excited in SBS. Due to strong Landau damping, the SBS in H or HeH plasmas is strong convective instability, while the SBS in AuB plasmas is absolute instability due to the weak Landau damping. However, although the SBS in CH plasmas is weak convective instability in the linear theory, the SBS will transform into absolute instability due to decreasing linear Landau damping by particles trapping. These results give a detail research of the IAW modes excitation and the properties of SBS in different species plasmas, thus providing the possibility of controlling SBS by increasing the linear Landau damping of the IAW by changing ion species., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

The anti-Stokes scattering and Stokes scattering in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) cascade have been researched by the Vlasov-Maxwell simulation. In the high-intensity laser-plasmas interaction, the stimulated anti-Stokes Brillouin scattering (SABS) will occur after the second stage SBS rescattering. The mechanism of SABS has been put forward to explain this phenomenon. And the SABS will compete with the SBS rescattering to determine the total SBS reflectivity. Backward stimulated Raman scattering (BSRS) with Langmuir decay instability (LDI) and Langmuir collapse has been researched by Vlasov simulation for the first time. The decay productions of LDI cascade and their evolution with time is clearly demonstrated, which occurs simultaneously with Langmuir collapse. The BSRS reflectivity will be decreased largely through LDI cascade and Langmuir collapse. In CH plasmas, when $T_i/T_e=1/3$, the Landau damping of the slow ion-acoustic wave (IAW) is lower than that in H plasmas. Therefore, the BSRS can be further suppressed through LDI cascade by the way of controlling the species of plasmas and ions ratio. The harmonics effect on ion-bulk (IBk) waves has been researched by Vlasov simulation. The condition of excitation of a large-amplitude IBk waves is given to explain the phenomenon of strong short-wavelength electrostatic activity in solar wind. When $k$ is much lower than $k_{lor}/2$ ($k_{lor}$ is the wave number at loss-of-resonance point), the IBk waves will not be excited to a large amplitude, because a large part of energy will be spread to harmonics. The properties of the nonlinear frequency shift (NFS) especially the fluid NFS from the harmonic generation of the ion-acoustic wave (IAW) in multi-ion species plasmas have been researched by Vlasov simulation. The pictures of the nonlinear frequency shift from harmonic generation and particles trapping are shown to explain the mechanism of NFS qualitatively. The theoretical model of the fluid NFS from harmonic generation in multi-ion species plasmas is given and the results of Vlasov simulation are consistent to the theoretical result of multi-ion species plasmas. When the wave number $k\lambda_{De}$ is small, such as $k\lambda_{De}=0.1$, the fluid NFS dominates in the total NFS and will reach as large as nearly $15\%$ when the wave amplitude $|e\phi/T_e|\sim0.1$, which indicates that in the condition of small $k\lambda_{De}$, the fluid NFS dominates in the saturation of stimulated Brillouin scattering especially when the nonlinear IAW amplitude is large., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, accepted by Physics Review E, will be published on August

Excitation of nonlinear ion acoustic wave (IAW) by an external electric field is demonstrated by Vlasov simulation. The frequency calculated by the dispersion relation with no damping is verified much closer to the resonance frequency of the small-amplitude nonlinear IAW than that calculated by the linear dispersion relation. When the wave number $ k\lambda_{De} $ increases, the linear Landau damping of the fast mode (its phase velocity is greater than any ion's thermal velocity) increases obviously in the region of $ T_i/T_e < 0.2 $ in which the fast mode is weakly damped mode. As a result, the deviation between the frequency calculated by the linear dispersion relation and that by the dispersion relation with no damping becomes larger with $k\lambda_{De}$ increasing. When $k\lambda_{De}$ is not large, such as $k\lambda_{De}=0.1, 0.3, 0.5$, the nonlinear IAW can be excited by the driver with the linear frequency of the modes. However, when $k\lambda_{De}$ is large, such as $k\lambda_{De}=0.7$, the linear frequency can not be applied to exciting the nonlinear IAW, while the frequency calculated by the dispersion relation with no damping can be applied to exciting the nonlinear IAW., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, Accepted by POP, Publication in August 16

A target composition scheme to optimize the combined proton acceleration regime is presented and verified by two-dimensional particle-in-cell (2D PIC) simulations by using an ultra-intense circularly-polarized (CP) laser pulse irradiating an overdense hydrocarbon (CH) target, instead of a pure hydrogen (H) one. The combined acceleration regime is a two-stage proton acceleration scheme combining the radiation pressure dominated acceleration (RPDA) stage and the laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) stage sequentially together. With an ultra-intense CP laser pulse irradiating an overdense CH target, followed by an underdense tritium plasma gas, protons with higher energies (from about $20$ GeV up to about $30$ GeV) and lower energy spreads (from about $18\%$ down to about $5\%$ in full-width at half-maximum, or FWHM) are generated, as compared to the use of a pure H target. It is because protons can be more stably pre-accelerated in the first RPDA stage when using CH targets. With the increase of the carbon-to-hydrogen density ratio, the energy spread is lower and the maximum proton energy is higher. It also shows that for the same laser intensity around $10^{22}$ $Wcm^{-2}$, using the CH target will lead to a higher proton energy, as compared to the use of a pure H target. For a transitive Lie algebroid A on a connected manifold M and its a representation on a vector bundle F, we study the localization map Y^1: H^1(A,F)-> H^1(L_x,F_x), where L_x is the adjoint algebra at x in M. The main result in this paper is that: Ker Y^1_x=Ker(p^{1*})=H^1_{deR}(M,F_0). Here p^{1*} is the lift of H^1(\huaA,F) to its counterpart over the universal covering space of M and H^1_{deR}(M,F_0) is the F_0=H^0(L,F)-coefficient deRham cohomology. This bisection can be chosen to be the multiplication of some exponentials as close as possible to a prescribed curve.
