Since the last IAEA-FEC in 2021, significant progress on the development of long pulse steady state scenario and its related key physics and technologies have been achieved, including the reproducible 403 s long-pulse steady-state H-mode plasma with pure radio frequency (RF) power heating. A thousand-second time scale (∼1056 s) fully non-inductive plasma with high injected energy up to 1.73 GJ has also been achieved. The EAST operational regime of high βP has been significantly extended (H98y2 > 1.3, βP ∼ 4.0, βN ∼ 2.4 and ne/nGW ∼ 1.0) using RF and neutral beam injection (NBI). The full edge localized mode suppression using the n = 4 resonant magnetic perturbations has been achieved in ITER-like standard type-I ELMy H-mode plasmas with q95 ≈ 3.1 on EAST, extrapolating favorably to the ITER baseline scenario. The sustained large ELM control and stable partial detachment have been achieved with Ne seeding. AIM: To analyze the modeling characteristics and validation indexes of diabetic retinopathy model, analyze the shortcomings of the present animal experimental modeling, and provide a reference basis for the establishment of the standardization of the diabetic retinopathy model.METHODS: Literatures related to animal experiments on diabetic retinopathy were searched through the databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and PubMed, and the experimental animal species, grade, gender, age, modeling method, modeling period, validation indexes, and other indexes were summarized and analyzed.RESULTS: The 275 papers that met the criteria were included. The animal models of diabetic retinopathy were mainly SD rats and Wistar rats, the sex of the experimental animals was mainly male, and the animal breeds were mostly of the SPF class. The age of most of the animals used was in the range of 6-8 weeks old; the modeling was based on those who established the type 1 diabetes model, mainly using STZ as the induction model. While the type 2 diabetes model was based on the high-fat, high-sugar diet combined with STZ. The modeling criteria were verified by detecting retinal morphology and structure, retinal vascularization, retinal function, and retinal cell apoptosis. In addition, the model was evaluated by detecting abnormal vascular proliferation, oxidative stress indicators, and inflammatory factor levels in retinal tissues, as well as abnormal vascular proliferation and inflammatory factor levels in aqueous humour, vitreous humor, and blood serum.CONCLUSION: Although the animal model of diabetic retinopathy has become a hotspot, the existing review is not comprehensive. Therefore, we summarized and analyzed the elements of the animal model through literature collation, including its characteristics and limitations, and providing methodological references for the establishment of the model, with a view to laying a solid foundation for the subsequent clinical and basic research of traditional Chinese medicine.

In the past decade, the World Class University discussion has become rampant due to the integral role that higher education plays in any economy's aspiration to compete globally while still pursuing sustainability. This article reports on a study that explored the roles played by world-class universities (WCUs) in fostering sustainability initiatives and practices in the African context. The article harnesses a document review approach that facilitates in-depth document analysis using two world-class institutions in Africa: The University of Cape Town in South Africa and American University in Cairo in Egypt as case studies. This study finds that world-class institutions in the two countries have rigorous, comprehensive sustainability organisations, synthesised and adopted from international agreements and concepts. The sustainability organisation is characterised by a less hierarchical approach to its management and leadership. Sustainability in research is fostered through environmental research and other key research areas such as food and medicine. Sustainable teaching is fostered through living-learning labs, redesigned curriculums, targeted degree programs and lecturer development through training and awards as incentives. Tangible, sustainable technology and innovation initiatives are also evident. This article comprehensively establishes the links and roles played by WCUs in fostering sustainability. It aids potential WCUs in Africa to understand and adopt sustainable initiatives within different and dynamic institutional contexts.

The monolayer metamaterial that consists of graphene arrangement squares and four L-shaped graphene blocks is designed to achieve quintuple plasmon-induced transparency (quintuple-PIT). First, the accuracy of the results has been validated through finite difference time domain simulations and coupled mode theory, which show good agreement. Second, a quadruple-frequency asynchronous switch with amplitude modulation degree (AMD) values of 94.7%, 91.1%, 96.6%, and 77.4% and a sextuple-frequency synchronous switch with AMD values of 95.0%, 96.8%, 88.0%, 93.3%, 58.6%, and 71.5% have been proposed by dynamic control, respectively. It is worth noting that the number of PIT windows in the transmission curve can be freely adjusted from a quintuple-PIT to single-PIT mode by manipulating the Fermi level states of different parts of the structure. Finally, further investigations have demonstrated that the proposed structure exhibits excellent slow-light properties and is insensitive to polarized light, which indicates that the metamaterial structure possesses good stability and anti-interference capabilities under various polarization conditions. In order to deeply understand the new situation and demand for flood control in the upstream of Beijiang River and ensure the safety of key flood control and protection objects in the upstream, the Pearl River Delta in the downstream, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, research was conducted on the practical dispatch results of the "22·6" and "24·4" Beijiang major floods. Based on the traceability analysis method, the factors that limit the flood control capacity of the Wantou Reservoir were clarified, and practical experience was summarized. On this basis, the potential of flood control and peak shifting of the Lechangxia Reservoir was fully explored, and an optimized dispatch scheme for the Lechangxia Reservoir was proposed. The Jinjiang Reservoir was considered to be included in the joint dispatch. Finally, multidimensional flood control benefit risk indicators were used to evaluate the optimization schemes. The research results indicate that when the inflow of the Wantou Reservoir exceeds 5 300 m3/s, holding back the water and storing it up in the Lechangxia Reservoir in advance can effectively reduce the maximum water level of the Wantou Reservoir by 1.75–3.53 m and alleviate the flood control pressure of the Wantou Reservoir. Including the Jinjiang Reservoir in the joint dispatch can further reduce the peak flow of the Shaoguan by 25–89 m3/s. The research results aim to provide a reference for optimizing flood dispatch schemes and arranging flood discharge routes in the upstream of Beijiang River under new engineering and social conditions.

Objective This study aimed to investigate Chinese anesthesiologists' comprehension of palliative care and their experiences with palliative sedation for patients in the end-stage of life. Methods From October to December 2021, a national cross-sectional survey was conducted among anesthesiologists in China distributed by the Chinese Society of Anesthesiology, Chinese Medical Association with convenient sampling. The survey questionnaire encompassed general information, professional experience, familiarity with palliative care, emotional responses to end-stage cases, experience with sedation for critically ill or end-stage patients, and preferences for sedation medication. Results A total of 2536 anesthesiologists from 29 provinces in China completed valid questionnaires. Among them, 572 anesthesiologists(22.6%, 572/2536) reported familiarity with palliative medicine. Male anesthesiologists, as well as those with prior experience in caring for critically ill or end-stage patients, involved in pain management and practicing in hospitals with established institutional palliative care teams, demonstrated greater familiarity with palliative care concepts(all P
