Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a lethal malignancy with metastasis, a major tumor feature that predominantly correlated with progression, but the molecules that mediated tumor metastasis remain elusive. To declare the critical regulatory genes, RNA sequencing data in LUAD patients was acquired from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and found that ALDH3A1 was distinctly highly expressed in LUAD patients with metastasis (M1) compared with those without metastasis (M0), linked to the property of cancer stem cell and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Besides, high ALDH3A1 expression predicted a poor prognosis. Knockdown of ALDH3A1 showed decreased proliferation, migration, and invasion in A549 cell line. Furthermore, BAG1 was regulated by ALDH3A1 through p53, enhanced cell proliferation, and predicted clinical prognosis. Our findings collectively uncovered a novel mechanism that orchestrates tumor cells' metastasis, and decreasing ALDH3A1 represented a potential therapeutic target for reprogramming metastasis.

Flooding limit is the most severe limitation in the operation of a two-phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT). However, the effect of condenser length to the critical heat flux (CHF) and the influences of structural and operational parameters to the critical liquid film thickness (CFT) were not universally concerned. In the present study, a comprehensive model for TPCT is developed to predict the CHF and CFT. In particular, the proposed model is validated through three criterions. Based on the validated model, parametric analysis of the structural and operational parameters is comprehensively carried out, and variations in CHF and CFT are illustrated and discussed in detail. Simplified correlations for CHF are finally proposed based on the numerical modeling results. The results indicate that the CHF decreases with increasing absolute length and evaporator length, while increases with increasing vapor temperature, condenser length, and inner diameter. However, the increment due to the condenser length is limited. The CFT has different fluctuation trends in comparison with the CHF. It increases first and then decreases with increasing vapor temperature and inner diameter, while reverses with increasing absolute length and condenser length, and remains unchanged with increasing evaporator length. Meanwhile, the effect of working fluids to the CHF and the effect of aspect ratios to the CFT both indicate that much efforts need to be made to further understanding the TPCT. However, correlations of CHF can be obtained in a good agreement with the numerical modeling results within 30% deviation for the whole limited scope.

Loop thermosyphon (LT) is usually introduced to overcome the freezing and corrosion problems associated with the conventional solar water heating (SWH) system. Compared with the conventional SWH system, the LT-SWH system possesses a lower nighttime heat loss because of the thermal diode property of loop thermpsyphon but bigger daytime heat loss because of the secondary heat exchange. However, the effect of above interaction to the system performance is rarely reported based on long-term running. In this study, based on the typical meteorological year data of Fuzhou city, annual performances of above two systems, including the effective number of supplying days, effective heat gain and nighttime heat loss, are comparatively analyzed under two different operational modes. Variations of above mentioned variables with the increment in the set temperature are discussed. The results indicate that, under the discontinuous heating mode, the effective numbers of supplying days of SWH system and LT-SWH system are 139 and 153, respectively. While the numbers of days are respectively 168 and 173 under the continuous heating mode. The SWH system possesses an expected bigger nighttime heat loss ratio with an average annual value of 15.07% corresponding to 6.15% for the LT-SWH system. Particularly, for the LT-SWH system, the different relative magnitudes of heat loss coefficients functioning at different times leads to a smaller temperature drop at night and also a smaller temperature rise at the subsequent day. It generates an unanticipated results that corresponds to the same month from November to April, the two systems have the approximate effective heat gain. The set temperature significantly influences the relative magnitudes of annual effective number of supplying days and annual effective heat gain, the superiority of LT-SWH system gradually diminishes and even reverses with the increment in the set temperature. The bigger daytime heat loss dominating the dominance is responsible for that transition. Combining with a longer static payback period, it is conditional to substitute the conventional SWH system with the LT-SWH system, especially when the water temperature on demand is high.

When integrating the gravity heat pipe with solar collector, the diameters of the evaporator and condenser are usually unequal, namely unequal diameter gravity heat pipe (UDGHP). Compared with the equal diameter gravity heat pipe (EDGHP), there are few studies focusing on operating pattern of the UDGHP. In this work, a numerical model for the UDGHP is firstly developed based on that of the EDGHP. Sensitivity analysis of the geometries of the evaporator and condenser, wall temperature, and working fluid on the filling and operating envelopes and the thermal resistance of the UDGHP is carried out under the criteria of local dryout and flooding limit. Particularly, comparisons between the UDGHP and EDGHP are simultaneously presented and discussed. The results reveal that the UDGHP has the expanded filling and operating envelopes and a smaller thermal resistance. Enlarging the inner diameter of the condenser, shortening the length of the evaporator, and raising the wall temperature can effectively improve the filling and operating envelopes and the heat transfer performance; lengthening the condenser improves the operating envelope and the heat transfer performance but shrinks the filling envelope. Variation patterns in the filling and operating envelopes and the thermal performance with different working fluids are disorders.

Effect of inclination angle to the thermal performance of a heat pipe photovoltaic/thermal system (HP-PV/T) system was rarely reported. In the present study, a HP-PV/T system was firstly constructed in an Enthalpy Difference Laboratory, where inclination angle was experimentally managed as the only variable. Meanwhile, a comprehensive numerical model for the HP-PV/T system was developed to validate the experiments. Particularly, a 3D model for the inclined heat pipe was also firstly involved. The simulation results show that liquid film thickness within the condenser or the evaporator stabilizes at a constant value at inclining condition. The relative filmwise thermal resistance of the condenser decreases first and then increases with inclination angle; while the evaporator shows an opposite trend to the condenser. The overall thermal resistance of solar heat pipe is mainly determined by the evaporator while the evaporator is mainly determined by the effective height of the liquid pool. The experimental and simulation results both indicate that the optimum inclination angle is 40°. The proposed model agrees well with the experimental results at big inclination angles (≥20°), it is practicable to reveal the influence of inclination angle to the thermal performance of a HP-PV/T system.

The present study on vertical two-phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT) is aimed to determine the suitable volume-filling ratio, as a function of geometries, heat flux and vapor temperature, in order to avoid the potential local dryout in the evaporator section and hence to maximize the performance. In the study, the droplet entrainment, which is caused by the internal counter flow during the nucleate boiling within the falling liquid film in the evaporator section, is introduced to improve the existing TPCT model, so a comprehensive model with considering all three heat transfer regimes in the evaporator is further established. The suggested lower and upper limits of volume-filling ratio (CFR and EFR) are then determined by utilizing the criterias for local dryout, flooding limit and boiling limit. Furthermore, the effects of geometries, heat flux and vapor temperature on the range of volume-filling ratio are analyzed in details, a simplified correlation of CFR is then proposed based on the numerical modeling results. Particularly, the predictions of the distribution of falling film thickness and onset of flooding are validated with the published experimental data and other numerical simulation results. It is also found that the droplet entrainment significantly influences the thickness and distribution of the falling film. Increasing vapor temperature and inner diameter and decreasing the evaporator length significantly enlarge the volume-filling ratio range (between CFR and EFR), operation envelope (corresponding to boiling limit and flooding limit) of TPCT. Increasing the condenser length increases the volume-filling ratio range and operation envelope to a small extent. The influence mechanisms of the optimum filling ratio by the heat flux and geometries are complicated; however, a correlation of CFR can be obtained in a good agreement with the numerical modeling results within ± 30% deviation for the whole limited scope.

Mitochondria DNA was preferentially attacked by the exogenous carcinogens including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) relative to nuclear DNA, and nuclear gene variants may account for variability in the mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn). However, it remains unclear whether miRNA genetic variations are associated with mitochondrial DNA damage in the PAH-exposed workers. Therefore, we measured the leukocyte mtDNAcn, urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHPYR), environmental PAH exposure, and miRNA genetic polymorphisms among 544 coke oven workers and 238 healthy control participants. We found that the mtDNAcn in the exposure group (0.60 ± 0.29) was significantly lower than that in the control group (1.03 ± 0.31) (t = 18.931, P 0.001). Spearman correlation analysis showed that the peripheral blood leukocyte mtDNAcn had significantly negative correlations with the levels of 1-OHPYR and environmental PAH exposure (P 0.001). Covariance analysis indicated that miR-210 rs11246190 AA, miR-210 rs7395206 CC, and miR-126 rs2297538 GG probably promoted a decrease in leukocyte mtDNAcn in the exposure or control groups (P 0.05). In generalized linear model, miR-210 rs11246190 GG was a protective factor of mtDNAcn, and environmental PAH exposure was the risk factor of the mtDNAcn. In conclusion, the decrease of leukocyte mtDNAcn is the result of a combination of environmental and genetic factors.
