Physicians were recruited from multiple hospitals and outpatient clinics, while patients were recruited from eleven centers operating in the public health care system in different autonomous communities in Spain and Portugal. Preferences were measured via a discrete choice experiment by rating multiple T2DM medication attributes. Data were analyzed using the conditional logit model.Results: Three-hundred and thirty (n=330) patients (49.7% female; mean age 62.4 [SD: 10.3] years, mean T2DM duration 13.9 [8.2] years, mean body mass index 32.5 [6.8] kg/m2, 41.8% received oral + injected medication, 40.3% received oral, and 17.6% injected treatments) and 221 physicians from Spain and Portugal (62% female; mean age 41.9 [SD: 10.5] years, 33.5% endocrinologists, 66.5% primary-care doctors) participated. Patients valued avoiding a gain in bodyweight of 3 kg/6 months (WTP: €68.14 [95% confidence interval: 54.55–85.08]) the most, followed by avoiding one hypoglycemic event/month (WTP: €54.80 [23.29–82.26]). Physicians valued avoiding one hypoglycemia/week (WTP: €287.18 [95% confidence interval: 160.31–1,387.21]) the most, followed by avoiding a 3 kg/6 months gain in bodyweight and decreasing cardiovascular risk (WTP: €166.87 [88.63–843.09] and €154.30 [98.13–434.19], respectively). Physicians and patients were willing to pay €125.92 (73.30–622.75) and €24.28 (18.41–30.31), respectively, to avoid a 1% increase in glycated hemoglobin, and €143.30 (73.39–543.62) and €42.74 (23.89–61.77) to avoid nausea.Conclusion: Both patients and physicians in Spain and Portugal are willing to pay for the health benefits associated with improved diabetes treatment, the most important being to avoid hypoglycemia and gaining weight. Decreased cardiovascular risk and weight reduction became the third most valued attributes for physicians and patients, respectively. Abstract

Melt-quenched borosilicate glasses, co-doped with Bi and V ions, exhibited broad visible spectrum emissions. Bi ions primarily existed as Bi, acting as network modifiers, lowering the glass transition temperature linearly with increasing Bi content. V ions adopted tetrahedral coordination as [VO] units. Photoluminescence of Bi ions is shifted from blue to longer wavelengths with higher Bi content, associated with the stabilization of Bi and the presence of Bi in different local environments. Combined with V ions, the glasses emitted light covering the entire visible spectrum, offering the potential for white LED applications with correlated color temperatures ranging from 6135 to 4010 K. The highest QY was 11.9 and 8.0 % upon excitation at 325 and 340 nm.

16. The Role of NGOs in the Dissemination and Implementation of Positive Parenting in Spain

Abstract

This article chronologically reviews different contributions of the non-governmental organizations to the positive parenting initiative currently adopted in Spain. It starts with the theoretical framework adopted by UNICEF and the Oxford University researchers on the contribution of the International Agencies and NGOs to this subject that was implemented after the approval of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. These first proposals were directed to train parents according to the principle of 'the best interest of the child'. The article follows with initiatives developed mainly by UNICEF, WHO and NGO such as Save the Children, after that, in middle and low income countries. In the OCDE countries positive parenting programmes were also promoted. More recently, following the adoption of Recommendation 19 (2006) of the Council of Europe, several NGOs have developed numerous projects about parenting support services and programmes. Also, some positive parenting programmes, that are carried out in specifically Spain, by International and National NGO, are analysed. To conclude, NGOs have significantly contributed to the development of positive parenting in Spain, frequently in collaboration with public organisms from regional, autonomic and state levels.

Abstract

Calcium aluminate cements or CACs are of great interest in a wide range of areas, such as industrial applications, waste encapsulation and even restoration of heritage sites. The hydration products of CAC are known to vary as a function of temperature and humidity conditions. In this study, the hydration process of a CAC cured at 70°C under high humidity conditions and different water/cement ratios has been investigated. The aim of using these conditions was to directly obtain katoite-type cubic hydrates, together with the development of gibbsite. The different water/cement ratios used have given rise to different proportions of crystalline and amorphous hydrated phases. The percentages of hydration products formed have been identified and quantified in relation to the mechanical strength and porosity of the pastes at different curing ages. The stability of the pastes subjected to two curing conditions, under water and in laboratory conditions, for 2 years, has also been studied
