In the global development of alternative and sustainable fuels, H2has gained prime research interest as combustion of it results in energy with zero carbon footprint. In this context, non-noble metal-based double perovskite oxides with their wide tunable structure gained interest from researchers as an effective electrocatalyst for water oxidation in alkaline medium. However, their low catalytic efficacy and durability limit their application for the industrial scale. Here, we present several Fe–Co-based double perovskite oxides tuning their A-site with lanthanides for overall water splitting and hybrid electrolysis for energy-saving H2production. The best Fe–Co-based double perovskite oxide, Eu2FeCoO6, demonstrates very high trifunctional electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and small alcohol molecule oxidation, along with hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Overpotentials (η10) of 220 mV for the OER and 238 mV for the HER were attained at 10 mA cm–2current density in 1 M NaOH (pH = 14). Also, Faradaic yields of 85 and 89% were achieved for ethanol oxidation (EtOR) and benzyl alcohol oxidation (BnOR), respectively, with the best catalyst. Moreover, in a two-electrode electrolyzer with 0.1 M benzyl alcohol (as an electrolyte) and Eu2FeCoO6as a bifunctional catalyst (both as the cathode and anode, Eu2FeCoO6(−)∥Eu2FeCoO6(+)), a cell potential of 1.75 V was enough for oxygenation of benzyl alcohol along with the production of H2. A 150 mV advantage in cell potential was gained in BnOR-aided H2generation compared with overall water oxidation.

Lignocellulosic biomass is carbon neutral and produces fuels and chemicals which are used for domestic, industrial, and transportation system. Thermochemical conversion processes (combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis) are emerging technologies which have great potential for industrial implementation. In this paper, the investigation has been done to select appropriate bamboo biomass suitable for thermochemical conversion process out of 21 biomass samples available in Mizoram, India. Various characteristics considered here for the selection of the appropriate bamboo biomass include proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, and their heating values. These characteristics are plotted in different diagrams and analysed in detail. It is observed after analysis that some bamboo biomasses are suitable combustion, some are suitable for pyrolysis and rest are suitable for gasification.

In developing nations, research output is limited due to factors like unreliable power supply and inadequate laboratory equipment. The high cost of purchasing completed laboratory equipment and the unavailability of accessories for imported equipment further contribute to this issue. A biomass densification machine was designed and constructed to address these challenges for teaching and research purposes. The machine was tested at five different compaction pressures (100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 kPa) using gelatinized cassava starch as a binder. The physical and mechanical characteristics of the produced fuel briquettes were investigated following ASTM standards and procedures reported in the literature. The results show that the physical and mechanical properties of the fuel briquettes increase with compaction pressure. The compressive strength, durability, and water resistance of the briquettes varied between 55 and 101 kN·m−2, 89–99%, and 20–120 min, respectively, while the compressed and relaxed densities range from 0.780 to 1.220 g·cm−3and 0.670 to 0.990 g·cm−3, respectively. The machine performed satisfactorily because the briquettes’ characteristics were found to meet the specified ISO Standard (17225). The development of this machine will enable academic institutions, researchers, and students to harness the potential of biomass through the densification process without the challenges posed by imported equipment. The creation of the machine will also facilitate students’ hands-on learning. By providing an easily accessible and reliable platform, academic and research institutions can integrate biomass solid fuel production experiments into their curricula, fostering a thorough understanding of renewable energy solutions and supporting sustainable practices. Therefore, it can be recommended for teaching and research in developing nations. Incorporating an electronic component, such as a digital pressure gauge and electric hydraulic jack, is recommended for future research to enhance the performance.

Solvent regeneration is a pivotal component in CO2capture technology, primarily due to its high energy consumption, which constitutes the most significant cost factor. In the present study, the application of the gas–liquid vortex reactor (GLVR) as a new process intensification (PI) technology for solvent regeneration is introduced. An experimental study of the regeneration of a 30-weight percentage (wt %) monoethanolamine (MEA) aqueous solution loaded with CO2is performed. The most important process conditions are studied experimentally, including gas flow rate (15 to 25 N m3/h), liquid flow rate (20–40 kg/h), and CO2loading of the MEA aqueous solution (0.28–0.49 mol of CO2/mol of MEA). In this operational range, the desorption efficiency peaks at 74%. As a first assessment of its use, this work adopts the CO2release rate per unit volume of the reactor as a key performance indicator to compare GLVR technology with other PI technologies. Our findings indicate that the CO2release rate in the GLVR significantly surpasses that of benchmark technology, demonstrating its potential as a more efficient alternative to solvent regeneration technology.
