Abstract The detection of gravitational waves has ushered in a new era of observing the universe. Quantum resource advantages offer significant enhancements to the sensitivity of gravitational wave observatories. While squeezed states for ground-based gravitational wave detection have received marked attention, the generation of squeezed states suitable for mid-to-low-frequency detection has remained unexplored. To address the gap in squeezed state optical fields at ultra-low frequencies, we report on the first direct observation of a squeezed vacuum field until Fourier frequency of 4 millihertz with the quantum noise reduction of up to 8.0 dB, by the employment of a multiple noise suppression scheme. Our work provides quantum resources for future gravitational wave observatories, facilitating the development of quantum precision measurement.

Abstract Soil dissolved organic matter (DOM) is crucial to atmospheric, terrestrial and aquatic environments as well as human life. Here, by characterizing DOM from 89 grassland soils throughout China, we reveal the spatial association between DOM geochemistry in the dry season vs annual ecosystem exchange and cancer cases. The humic-like and high molecular weight (3.4–25 kDa) fractions with lower biodegradability, decline from the northern to the southern regions of China, and are correlated with lower soil respiration and net ecosystem productivity at the continental scale. Abstract The present continental crust is characterized by a felsic upper crust and a mafic lower crust, resulting from significant geochemical differentiation over geological time. While various processes have been proposed to explain this differentiation, subduction zones remain pivotal regions for understanding the compositional evolution of continental crust. This study focuses on the South Altyn (SA) continental subduction‐collision belt in western China, a unique setting that experienced ultra‐deep (>300 km) continental subduction followed by multi‐stage exhumation. We present a comprehensive study of four granitoid suites from Tatelekebulake (TTLK) area in SA: biotite granite (BG), monzogranite (MG), K‐feldspar granite (KG), and leucogranite (LG). Comprehensive studies on petrology, geochemistry and zircon U‐Pb dating show that these granitoids formed at 494, 451, 414, and 418 Ma, respectively, and originated from protoliths with affinity to the subducted continental crust in SA. Phase equilibrium modeling suggests that BG formed at ∼800°C and 0.6 GPa, while the MG, KG, and LG formed by differentiation crystallization of the BG magma under progressively decreasing temperature and pressure conditions (750°C, 0.5 GPa; 740–700°C, 0.2 GPa; and 700–640°C, 0.1 GPa, respectively). These results, combined with previous studies, allow us to reconstruct the tectonic processes of continental exhumation and subsequent orogenic collapse in SA during the Early Paleozoic. Importantly, our findings reveal that magmatism derived from partial melting of subducted continental crust can promote the geochemical evolution of continental crust toward more felsic compositions, even in the absence of significant crustal growth or mantle‐derived magmatism. This study provides a valuable case for understanding the compositional evolution of continental crust in deep subduction zones and challenges conventional models that rely heavily on arc magmatism for crustal differentiation. Moreover, our results contribute to a broader understanding of crustal evolution processes in collisional orogens worldwide and highlight the importance of recycling and differentiation of subducted continental material in shaping crustal compositions.

Near‐infrared (NIR) phosphors have been widely used in biomedical applications based on their deep tissue penetration. However, the lack of blue‐pumped NIR phosphors with emission ranges beyond 1000 nm has greatly limited the development of NIR phosphor‐converted light‐emitting diodes (pc‐LEDs). Herein, a facile way to boost the luminescence efficiency and thermal stability by introducing the promoters of Ce3+ and Na+ into Nd3+‐doped SrS NIR phosphor is demonstrated, thus achieving light emitting at 850–1500 nm with a peak wavelength of ≈1070 nm. Through sensitization by the allowed 4f → 5d transition of Ce3+, the SrS: Nd3+ phosphors are excitable by using a commercial blue LED, attributing to the effective energy transfer between Nd3+ and Ce3+. Besides, the structural analysis and density functional theory calculations reveal the lattice distortion mechanism and geometry of doping ions contributed to the weakened thermal quenching effect and the increasing of internal quantum efficiency. The optimized NIR phosphor luminescence intensity remains at 91.8% of the initial intensity at 393 K, and the internal quantum efficiency increases to 42.8% from 31.7% of the sample without Na+ doping. The present exploration of Nd3+‐doped NIR phosphors will provide a reference for designing NIR pc‐LEDs with enhanced properties.

Abstract Background Traditional Chinese Medicinal Plants (CMPs) hold a significant and core status for the healthcare system and cultural heritage in China. It has been practiced and refined with a history of exceeding thousands of years for health-protective affection and clinical treatment in China. It plays an indispensable role in the traditional health landscape and modern medical care. It is important to accurately identify CMPs for avoiding the affected clinical safety and medication efficacy by the different processed conditions and cultivation environment confusion. Results In this study, we utilize a self-developed device to obtain high-resolution data. Furthermore, we constructed a visual multi-varieties CMPs image dataset. Firstly, a random local data enhancement preprocessing method is proposed to enrich the feature representation for imbalanced data by random cropping and random shadowing. Then, a novel hybrid supervised pre-training network is proposed to expand the integration of global features within Masked Autoencoders (MAE) by incorporating a parallel classification branch. It can effectively enhance the feature capture capabilities by integrating global features and local details. Besides, the newly designed losses are proposed to strengthen the training efficiency and improve the learning capacity, based on reconstruction loss and classification loss. Conclusions Extensive experiments are performed on our dataset as well as the public dataset. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves the best performance among the state-of-the-art methods, highlighting the advantages of efficient implementation of plant technology and having good prospects for real-world applications.

Shrimp paste, a traditional aquatic fermented product, is more prevalent in Southeast Asia and the coastal areas of China. The traditional shrimp paste production process is straightforward. Usually, small economic shrimp species, such as grasshopper and sesame shrimp, are used as raw materials. Microorganisms and a series of endogenous enzymes are relied upon to create a condiment with a distinct flavor and aroma via natural fermentation. The quality of shrimp paste is influenced by various factors, including the type of raw shrimp used, the freshness of raw materials, fermentation duration, fermentation temperature, salt addition, and storage time. There are several brands of shrimp paste in the market, but their quality varies significantly. There are no studies on the quality evaluation system for commercially available shrimp paste. In this study, a comprehensive evaluation of shrimp paste samples was conducted to investigate the quality differences among commercially available shrimp pastes. 32 brands of shrimp paste were collected from six provinces, namely Shandong, Guangdong, Hebei, Tianjin, Liaoning, and Jiangsu. The color and histomorphology of these samples were assessed via sensory evaluation, whereas their physicochemical indicators, such as moisture, salt, protein, and amino acid nitrogen, were determined. Principal component analysis was utilized to create a comprehensive ranking of 32 commercially available shrimp pastes. The results showed that the odor score of commercially available shrimp paste had the highest coefficient of variation value at 37.64%, indicating that the odor of different brands of shrimp paste varied significantly. The SC/T 3602-2016 "Shrimp paste" standard states that the moisture content of shrimp paste should be ≤ 60%, ash content should be ≤ 35%, salt content should be ≤ 25%, protein content should be ≥ 10.0 g/100 g, and amino acid nitrogen content should be ≥ 0.6 g/100 g. The minimum variation value for the moisture content of shrimp paste products was 12.17%, but the overall moisture content was high, with seven samples exceeding the standard limit by a significant margin. In the shrimp paste production process, with the extension of the fermentation time, the moisture content gradually reduced, and the water activity decreased. The high moisture content of individual samples could be related to the production process that shortens the fermentation cycle of shrimp paste. A total of 32 samples had ash content ≤ 35%, in accordance with the standard requirements of "shrimp paste". Fifty percent of commercially available shrimp paste samples had salt content values greater than 20%, indicating that most commercially available shrimp pastes were high in salt concentrations. Since a diet high in salt may lead to a series of health problems, such as increased blood pressure, reducing the salt content of traditional shrimp paste is more in line with modern consumer values. The protein content of 28 samples met the requirements, and the amino acid nitrogen content of 31 samples met the requirements. The maximum variation value of amino acid nitrogen content was 33.91%, indicating a large difference in amino acid nitrogen content between samples. The amino acid nitrogen content of 78.13% of the shrimp paste samples was greater than 1.0 g/100 g, and a few shrimp paste samples even exceeded 2.0 g/100 g, which was significantly higher than the amino acid nitrogen content of fish sauce and comparable to that of commercially available oyster sauce. Through principal component analysis, three principal components representing eight quality indicators of 32 commercially available shrimp pastes were extracted based on the principle of principal component eigenvalues greater than 1, and the cumulative variance contribution reached 82.32%, indicating that the majority of the information regarding shrimp paste quality indicators could be covered. Through further analysis, it was determined that moisture, amino acid nitrogen, and odor were important indicators affecting the overall quality of shrimp paste, and a comprehensive evaluation model was established as follows: Fsynthesize= 0.497F1 + 0.318F2 + 0.185F3, in order to investigate the differences in the odor composition of different shrimp pastes in greater detail. The samples were subjected to an e-nose analysis, and an e-nose clustering heat map was developed; the results showed that 32 shrimp sauces were clustered into four categories at a Euclidean distance of 4.03, with the main distinction lying in the W1S, W2S, and W3S sensors, and clustering occurred between the sea silver shrimp sauce and grasshopper shrimp sauce. Gas-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) analysis of shrimp paste derived from three raw materials (i.e., sea silver shrimp, grasshopper shrimp, and white shrimp) showed the presence of 63 volatile components, mainly different alcohols. The high content of alcohol contained in the flavor substances is consistent with the findings of several previous studies. The results indicated that the quality of commercially available shrimp paste differed significantly, with odor, moisture, and amino acid nitrogen being the most influential factors affecting quality. The results of the study provide a benchmark for the quality assessment and production process enhancement of shrimp paste.

Abstract Background There are few studies on cryptorchidism in adults, and its treatment is still controversial. Methods To summarize the surgical strategy and clinical efficacy of laparoscopic orchidopexy for the treatment of cryptorchidism in adults, 37 adult cryptorchidism patients were retrospectively analyzed between September 2017 and February 2022. All 37 patients underwent laparoscopic orchidopexy, of whom 33 underwent inguinal hernia repair without tension. The intraoperative procedures and surgical techniques were recorded in detail. Preoperative examination and regular postoperative review of color Doppler ultrasound, and reproductive hormone, alpha-fetoprotein, human chorionic gonadotropin, and lactate dehydrogenase levels were performed. Results All testes descended successfully into the scrotum, including 25 through the inguinal route and 12 through Hesselbach’s triangle route. No intraoperative or postoperative complications were observed. The follow-up time was 38.6 (± 19.4) months, and no evidence of testicular malignancy was found during the follow-up period. After analyzing the reproductive hormone levels at 1 year postoperatively in 28 patients with more than 1 year of follow-up, it was found that the patients had a significant increase in testosterone levels and a decrease in follicle-stimulating hormone levels after surgery. None of the patients showed any significant improvement in semen quality after surgery. Conclusion Our study suggests that laparoscopic orchidopexy is a safe and feasible surgical procedure for the treatment of cryptorchidism in adults, especially high cryptorchidism, which is difficult to treat. After comprehensive consideration, preserving the testis should be preferred for treating cryptorchidism in adults to maximize the protection of the patient’s reproductive hormone secretion function.

Background: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion is the most commonly used surgical approach for treating cervical spine conditions, but it can often lead to postoperative swallowing difficulties. To retrospectively assess the effects of topical triamcinolone acetonide in the anterior cervical surgery on swallowing function. Methods: In this study, a retrospective design was used to select patients aged 18 years and older who were diagnosed with cervical spondylosis and required anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Among them, the patients in the experimental group used triamcinolone acetonide topically in front of the plate during surgery, and the control group was the patients who did not use triamcinolone acetonide. The sex, age, operation time, operation segment, and preoperative soft tissue area were compared between the two groups. Results: There were no significant differences in gender, age, operation time, and segment between the two groups. For the preoperative soft tissue area, triamcinolone acetonide was significantly lower than in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The retrospective results of this study support that topical triamcinolone acetonide as a treatment in anterior cervical surgery can significantly reduce soft tissue swelling, and no effect was found on the operation time, postoperative blood loss, and segment. These findings provide an important basis for clinical care teams to make treatment decisions and confirm the effectiveness of triamcinolone acetonide in improving swallowing function. However, there was a possibility of information collection and selection bias due to the limitations of retrospective studies. To confirm and further advance the use of this treatment, more rigorous prospective randomized controlled trials are recommended to validate these preliminary results.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4)-based photocatalysts have garnered significant interest as a promising photocatalyst for hydrogen generation under visible light, to address energy and environmental challenges owing to their favorable electronic structure, affordability, and stability. In spite of that, issues such as high charge carrier recombination rates and low quantum efficiency impede its broader application. To overcome these limitations, structural and morphological modification of the g-C3N4-based photocatalysts is a novel frontline to improve the photocatalytic performance. Therefore, we briefly summarize the current preparation methods of g-C3N4. Importantly, this review highlights recent advancements in crafting high-performance g-C3N4-based photocatalysts, focusing on strategies like elemental doping, nanostructure design, bandgap engineering, and heterostructure construction. Notably, sophisticated doping techniques have propelled hydrogen production rates to a 104-fold increase. Ingenious nanostructure designs have expanded the surface area by a factor of 26, concurrently extending the fluorescence lifetime of charge carriers by 50%. Moreover, the strategic assembly of heterojunctions has not only elevated charge carrier separation efficiency but also preserved formidable redox properties, culminating in a dramatic hundredfold surge in hydrogen generation performance. This work provides a reliable and brief overview of the controlled modification engineering of g-C3N4-based photocatalyst systems, paving the way for more efficient hydrogen production.

Lung cancer is the malignant tumor with the highest morbidity and mortality in China. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the main pathological subtype of lung cancer. On April 13, 2023, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) released the third edition of the 2023 NCCN Oncology Clinical Practice Guidelines: Non-small Cell Lung Cancer, which reflects the latest advances in international lung cancer research. This article will interpret the main updated contents of the new edition of the guidelines, and compare it with the third edition of the NCCN guidelines in 2022, so as to provide references about the diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC for clinical medical personnel in China.

Background: Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) is a rare cause of varicocele and its treatment is still controversial. Objective: To summarize the surgical strategy and outcomes of microvascular Doppler (MVD)-assisted microsurgical left spermatic-inferior epigastric vein anastomosis (MLSIEVA) with microsurgical varicocelectomy (MV) at the same incision for treating NCS-associated varicocele. Design, setting, and participants: A retrospective analysis of 13 cases of NCS-associated varicocele between July 2018 and January 2022 was performed. Surgical procedure: A small incision in the body projection corresponding to the deep inguinal ring was chosen as the surgical incision. All patients underwent MLSIEVA and MV with the assistance of MVD. Measurements: Patients received real-time Doppler ultrasound (DUS) before and after surgery; urine red blood cells and protein were tested, with a follow-up time of 12–53 mo. Results and limitations: All patients had no intraoperative complications, and all postoperative symptoms of hematuria or proteinuria, scrotal swelling, and low back pain disappeared. Comparing pre- and postoperative DUS, two patients did not show any improvement in their postoperative measurements. However, in the remaining patients, the internal diameter of the renal vein at the hilum portion and at the aortomesenteric angle portion, as well as their ratio, improved significantly compared with preoperative measurements. No complications or recurrence of varicocele was observed during postoperative follow-up. Conclusions: Our study suggests that MVD-assisted MLSIEVA with MV is feasible with no major short-term complication and effective regarding the treatment of varicocele and NCS. Patient summary: We investigated microsurgery mediated by microultrasound for the treatment of varicocele associated with nutcracker syndrome. We found this procedure to be safe and effective with good long-term results.

This study presents a rare case of plastic bronchitis (PB) in a 57-year-old adult post-lung lobectomy, a condition predominantly found in post-Fontan children. The patient exhibited progressive dyspnea and complete atelectasis on the surgical side, revealing a gray rubbery bronchial cast obstructing the right main bronchus. Treatment involved repeated bronchoscopies, glucocorticoids, acetylcysteine, physiotherapy, and a low-fat diet, leading to gradual improvement. No similar cases have been reported, highlighting PB's diagnostic challenge. This underscores the need to consider rare conditions like PB in post-lobectomy complications. Timely examinations and bronchoscopies are essential for accurate diagnosis, ensuring prompt treatment and improving patient outcomes.

Successful gene therapy for brain tumors are often limited by two important factors, the existence of blood brain barrier (BBB) and inefficient transfection of brain tumor cells. In this study, we designed a series of peptide-based gene delivery vectors decorated with T7 segment for binding the transferrin (Tf) receptors which were highly expressed on brain tumor cells, and evaluated their ability of gene delivery. The physicochemical properties of peptide vectors or peptide/DNA complexes were studied as well. The in vitro transfection efficiency was investigated in normal and glioma cell lines. Among these complexes, PT-02/DNA complexes showed the highest transfection efficiency in glioma cells and low cytotoxicity in normal cell lines, and it could transport DNA across the BBB model in vitro. Furthermore, PT-02/DNA could deliver pIRES2-EGFP into the brain site of zebrafish in vivo. The designed peptide vectors offered a promising way for glioma gene therapy.

Abstract Purpose To study the prognostic value of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in advanced cancers receiving programmed death‐1/programmed death‐ligand 1 (PD‐1/L1) inhibitors. Methods Online electronic databases were comprehensively searched and available literature was retrieved. We extracted available data from included researches and pooled the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to learn the prognostic value of PNI on overall survival (OS) or progression‐free survival (PFS); and meanwhile calculated the relative risk (RR) with 95% CI to study the relationship between PNI and treatment efficacy (objective response rate [ORR] or disease control rate [DCR]) in late staged cancer receiving PD‐1/L1 inhibitors. Results Nine studies were finally selected for this meta‐analysis. We obtained data regarding PNI on OS from all nine studies, and the pooled HR was 2.31 (95% CI 1.81–2.94, p = 0.000), showing a correlation between low PNI and worse OS. Eight studies reported a relationship between PNI and PFS, and combined results revealed shorter PFS in patients with lower PNI, with an HR of 1.75 (95% CI 1.40–2.18, p = 0.000). Four studies explored the association between PNI and ORR and two studies explored the influence of PNI on DCR. An association between PNI and ORR (RR = 0.47, p = 0.003) was observed, while no association between PNI and DCR (RR = 0.49, p = 0.103) was observed by pooling these studies. Conclusion In summary, this meta‐analysis indicated that a lower PNI was significantly correlated with decreased OS and PFS and played adverse roles in ORR in advanced cancer patients receiving PD‐1/L1 inhibitors. Therefore, PNI could be promising for predicting prognosis and treatment response in advanced malignancies treated with PD‐1/L1 inhibitors.

Abstract A 24‐year‐old male patient was admitted to our center complaining of dizziness (superior vena cava syndrome [SVCS]), dysphagia and pain in the right chest wall. At the initial diagnosis, the patient had been found to have an irregular shaped 35 × 30 × 27 cm mass in the right side of his chest. On November 12, 2019, this patient received surgery in our center. The right sixth rib and the tumor were completely removed (R0), while preserving all the lung tissue and other organs in the chest. The patient recovered well after surgery, and his right lung was fully expanded.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to compare effects of cerebral small‐vessel disease (cSVD) burden and cerebral artery stenosis (CAS) on acute ischemia in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and their interaction with mean arterial pressure (MAP) change. Methods We recruited consecutive patients with acute primary ICH. Brain magnetic resonance imaging and angiography were performed to quantify diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI) lesions, CAS, and cSVD markers, which were calculated for the total cSVD score. Plant microbiota play essential roles in plant health and crop productivity. Comparisons of community composition have suggested seed, soil, and the atmosphere as reservoirs of phyllosphere microbiota. After finding that leaves of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants exposed to rain carried a higher microbial population size than leaves of tomato plants not exposed to rain, we experimentally tested the hypothesis that rain is a thus-far-neglected reservoir of phyllosphere microbiota. Therefore, rain microbiota were compared with phyllosphere microbiota of tomato plants either treated with concentrated rain microbiota, filter-sterilized rain, or sterile water. Based on 16S ribosomal RNA amplicon sequencing, 104 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) significantly increased in relative abundance after inoculation with concentrated rain microbiota but no OTU significantly increased after treatment with either sterile water or filter-sterilized rain. Some of the genera to which these 104 OTUs belonged were also found at higher relative abundance on tomato plants exposed to rain outdoors than on tomato plants grown protected from rain in a commercial greenhouse. Taken together, these results point to precipitation as a reservoir of phyllosphere microbiota and show the potential of controlled experiments to investigate the role of different reservoirs in the assembly of phyllosphere microbiota.

Paratesticular liposarcoma is a sporadic urological tumor. We report the clinical presentation, treatment course, and prognosis of 2 cases of primary paratesticular liposarcoma with different pathological types, with the aim of further understanding the diagnosis and treatment of this rare disease. Case 1 was a 53-years-old male patient who presented with left scrotal enlargement with swelling 3 years ago and was considered to have a testicular malignancy on preoperative CT scan and enhanced MRI. The patient underwent resection of the left scrotal mass and left orchiectomy under general anaesthesia. Histopathological study confirmed the diagnosis of dedifferentiated liposarcoma. At the 4-months follow-up, no local recurrence or distant metastasis was observed. Case 2 is a 42-years-old male patient with a left scrotal mass which was discovered six months ago. Preoperatively, he underwent CT plain and enhanced MRI examinations suggesting an intra-scrotal occupancy. The patient underwent scrotoscopic excision of the left scrotal mass under general anesthesia. Histopathological studies confirmed the diagnosis of highly differentiated liposarcoma. At the 10-months follow-up, no local recurrence or distant metastasis was observed. Preoperative differential diagnosis of paratesticular liposarcoma should be noted with testicular tumor and extra-abdominal hernia. Extensive local excision and, if necessary, concomitant radical testicular resection is the treatment of choice. If the tumor in the scrotum spreads to the inguinal region, surgical removal with the aid of a scrotoscope may be attempted. This procedure avoids the formation of a large incision in the inguinal region compared to traditional open surgery. Patients commonly experience local recurrence and less distant metastases after surgery, so long-term follow-up is recommended.

BackgroundHypertension is a leading risk factor for cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), a brain microvessels dysfunction accompanied by white matter lesions (WML). Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a metabolite of intestinal flora, is correlated with cardiovascular and aging diseases. Here, we explored the effect of TMAO on the demyelination of WML.MethodsSpontaneous hypertension rats (SHRs) and primary oligodendrocytes were used to explore the effect of TMAO on demyelination in vivo and in vitro. T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was applied to characterize the white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in rats. TMAO level was evaluated using LC-MS/MS assay. The histopathological changes of corpus callosum were measured by hematoxylin-eosin and luxol fast blue staining. And the related markers were detected by IHC, IF and western blot assay. Mito Tracker Red probe, DCFH-DA assay, flow cytometry based on JC-1 staining and Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining were conducted to evaluate the mitochondrial function, intracellular ROS levels and cell apoptosis.ResultsSHRs exhibited stronger WMH signals and a higher TMAO level than age-matched normotensive Wistar-kyoto rats (WKY). The corpus callosum region of SHR showed decreased volumes and enhanced demyelination when treated with TMAO. Furthermore, TMAO significantly elevated ROS production and induced NLRP3 inflammasome and impairment of mitochondrial function of oligodendrocytes. More importantly, TMAO enhanced the pyroptosis-related inflammatory death of oligodendrocytes.ConclusionTMAO could cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and promote oligodendrocytes pyroptosis via ROS/NLRP3 inflammasome signaling and mitochondrial dysfunction to promote demyelination, revealing a new diagnostic marker for WML under hypertension.

ObjectivesElderly population with cognitive impairment has been accelerating in China. This study aimed to explore the relationship between each risk factor and each cognitive domain to provide evidence for risk prevention of controlling impaired cognitive function in elderly.MethodsThis cross-sectional study analyzed the cognitive status of the elderly aged 65 and above in three communities in Shizhong District of Jinan City. Cognitive status was assessed by MMSE. The influencing factors of cognitive impairment were analyzed by chi square test, correlation analysis and regression analysis.ResultsAmong 1,171 participants, 643 were defined as cognitive impairment with an incidence of 54.9%. And we found that there were significant differences in the incidence of cognitive impairment among residents with different gender, age, education level, hypertension and LDL-C (P < 0.05). The spike glycoprotein in coronaviruses is a key viral protein for cross-species transmission and infection. Here, the authors present the cryo-EM structures of the spike ectodomains from bat and pangolin coronaviruses, compare them with the available SARS-CoV-2 spike structures and discuss implications for the evolution and cross-species transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

We present a low-intensity noise single-frequency Yb-doped all-fiber amplifier oriented to space-borne gravitational wave detection. Relative intensity noise (RIN) below −70 dBc/Hz @ 1 mHz~1 Hz was achieved by virtue of feedback-loop-based intensity noise suppression. Based on systematic noise analysis and experimental investigation, we found that the pump noise and temperature-dependent noise of the fiber splitter and the photodetector contributed mainly to the RIN of the fiber amplifier. Therefore, we carefully designed a feedback-loop-based Yb-doped all-fiber amplifier, and finely stabilized the temperature of the pump diode, fiber splitters, and photodetectors. Consequently, the RIN can be suppressed down to −72.5 dBc/Hz around 1 mHz. This low-intensity all-fiber Yb-doped amplifier can be used for space-borne gravitational-wave detection.

RNA modifications implicate pathological and prognosis significance in cancer development and progression, of which, m6A and m5C are representative regulators. These RNA modifications could produce effects on the function of other RNA by regulating gene expression. Thus, in this study, we aimed to explore the correlation between m6A/m5C regulators and early-stage lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Only the early-stage LUAD samples were included in this investigation, and the RNA-seq dataset of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort was utilized to evaluate the expression of 37 m6A/m5C regulated genes. Based on the expression level of these 37 genes, early-stage LUAD patients were divided into 2 clusters, which were performed by consensus clustering, and the m6A/m5C subtypes had significantly different prognostic outcomes (p < 0.001). Cluster1, which has a better prognosis, was characterized by the C3 (inflammatory) immune subtype, low immune infiltration, chemokine expression, major histocompatibility complex (MHC) expression, and immune checkpoint molecule expression. Furthermore, compared with cluster1, cluster2 showed a T cell exhaustion state, characterized by a high expression of immune checkpoint genes, and immune cells, such as T cells, CD8+ T cells, cytotoxic lymphocytes, NK cells, and so on. In addition, patients in cluster2 were with high tumor mutational burden (TMB) and numerous significant mutated oncogene and tumor suppressor genes, such as WNT10B, ERBB4, SMARCA4, TP53, and CDKN2A (p < 0.001). A total of 19 genes were mostly related to the prognosis of LUAD and were upregulated in cluster2 (p < 0.05), showing a positive correlation with the mRNA expression of 37 m6A/m5C regulated genes. The predictive risk model was constructed using Cox and LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) regression analysis. Finally, a seven-gene m6A/m5C risk model, comprising of METTL3, NPLOC4, RBM15, YTHDF1, IGF2BP1, NSUN3, and NSUN7, was constructed to stratify the prognosis of early-stage LUAD (p = 0.0049, AUC = 0.791). The high-risk score was associated with a poorer prognosis. This model was also validated using two additional GEO datasets: GSE72094 (p = 0.011, AUC = 0.736) and GSE50081 (p = 0.012, AUC = 0.628). In summary, it was established that the m6A/m5C-regulated genes performed a crosstalk function in the mRNA expression of early-stage LUAD. By interacting with other mRNA genes, m6A/m5C modification disturbs DNA replication and the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). The seven-gene risk model may be a critical tool for the prognostic assessment of early-stage LUAD.

Biomarkers are objectively measured biological properties of normal and pathological processes. Early neurological deterioration (END) refers to the deterioration of neurological function in a short time after the onset of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and is associated with adverse outcomes. Although multiple biomarkers have been found to predict END, there are currently no suitable biomarkers to be applied in routine stroke care. According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review standards, we present a systematic review, concentrating on body fluids biomarkers that have shown potential to be transferred into clinical practice. We also describe newly reported body fluids biomarkers that can supply different insights into the mechanism of END. In our review, 40 scientific papers were included. Depending on the various mechanisms, sources or physicochemical characteristics of body fluids biomarkers, we classified related biomarkers as inflammation, protease, coagulation, metabolism, oxidative stress, and excitatory neurotoxicity. The body fluids biomarkers whose related articles are limited or mechanisms are unknown are categorized as other biomarkers. The inflammation-related biomarkers, such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and hypersensitive C-reactive protein, play a crucial role among the mentioned biomarkers. Considering the vast heterogeneity of stroke progression, using a single body fluids biomarker may not accurately predict the risk of stroke progression, and it is necessary to combine multiple biomarkers (panels, scores, or indices) to improve their capacity to estimate END.

Sonneratia apetala Francis Buchanan-Hamilton (Sonneratiaceae, Myrtales), is a woody species with high adaptability and seed production capacity. S. apetala is widely cultivated worldwide as the main species for mangrove construction. However, the study of diseases affecting S. apetala is limitted, with only a few fungal pathogens being recorded. Cryphonectriaceae (Diaporthales) species are the main pathogens of plants. They can cause canker diseases to several trees and thereby seriously threaten the health of the hosts. These pathogens include Cryphonectria parasitica (Cryphonectriaceae) causing chestnut blight on Castanea ( Rigling and Prospero 2017 ) and Cytospora chrysosperma (Cytosporaceae) causing polar and willow canker to Populus and Salix ( Wang et al. 2015 ). Therefore, the timely detection of of Cryphonectriaceae canker pathogens on S. apetala is extremely important for protecting the mangrove forests.Two diaporthalean fungi, Celoporthe guangdongensis and Cytospora rhizophorae have been reported for the first time to cause canker on the branches of S. apetala. C. guangdongensis is significantly pathogenic and C. rhizophorae is saprophytic on S. apetala.

The luminescent performances of near-infrared (NIR) lanthanide (Ln) complexes were restricted greatly by vibration quenching of X-H (X = C, N, O) oscillators, which are usually contained in ligands and solvents. Encapsulating Ln3+ into a cavity of coordination atoms is a feasible method of alleviating this quenching effect. In this work, a novel ytterbium complex [Yb(DPPDA)2](DIPEA) coordinated with 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxylic acid (DPPDA) was synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, ESI-MS and elemental analysis. Under the excitation of 335 nm light, [Yb(DPPDA)2](DIPEA) showed two emission peaks at 975 and 1011 nm, respectively, which were assigned to the characteristic 2F5/2 → 2F7/2 transition of Yb3+. Meanwhile, this ytterbium complex exhibited a plausible absolute quantum yield of 0.46% and a luminescent lifetime of 105 μs in CD3OD solution. In particular, its intrinsic quantum yield was calculated to be 12.5%, and this considerably high value was attributed to the near-zero solvent molecules bound to Yb3+ and the absence of X-H oscillators in the first coordination sphere. Based on experimental results, we further proposed that the sensitized luminescence of [Yb(DPPDA)2](DIPEA) occurred via an internal redox mechanism instead of an energy transfer process.

When using off-axis digital image correlation (DIC) for non-contact, remote, and multipoint deflection monitoring of engineering structures, accurate calibration of the scale factor (SF), which converts image displacement to physical displacement for each measurement point, is critical to realize high-quality displacement measurement. In this work, based on the distortion-free pinhole imaging model, a generalized SF calibration model is proposed for an off-axis DIC-based video deflectometer. Then, the transversal relationship between the proposed SF calibration method and three commonly used SF calibration methods was discussed. The accuracy of these SF calibration methods was also compared using indoor rigid body translation experiments. It is proved that the proposed method can be degraded to one of the existing calibration methods in most cases, but will provide more accurate results under the following four conditions: (1) the camera’s pitch angle is more than 20°, (2) the focal length is more than 25 mm, (3) the pixel size of the camera sensor is more than 5 um, and (4) the image y-coordinate corresponding to the measurement point after deformation is far from the image center.

It is challenging to trace the complicated individual-based variations of HIV-specific immunocompetence shift during the successful antiretroviral therapy (ART) era. Using eight rhesus monkeys simulating a longitudinal stage-dependent cohort (baseline-SIV acute infection-SIV suppression by ART-ART withdrawal), baseline immunocompetence monitoring for 28 days (SIV-negative stage, SN) was compared with host immunocompetence undergoing 90-day ART treatment (SIV-suppressed stage, SS) to reveal the SIV-specific immunity shift aroused by undetectable individual viral replication. During acute SIV infection for 98 days (SIV-emerged stage, SE), immune activation was compared with re-immune activation post ART for 49-day follow-up (SIV-rebounded stage, SR) to reveal the SIV-specific immune activation variation aroused by detectable individual viral replication. Individual immunocompetence was measured by co-expression of CD4, CD8, CD38, HLA-DR, CCR7, CD45RA, and PD-1 on T cells and a cytokine panel. Compared with SN, mild immune activation/exhaustion was characterized by increased CD38+ HLA-DR– CD4+/CD8+ T-cell subsets and PD-1+ memory CD4+/CD8+ T-cell subsets with three elevated cytokines (MIP-1β, IL-8, and IL-10) significantly emerged in SS. Compared with SE, SR produced more exhaustion characterized by increased PD-1+ CD4+ TCM cells and decreased PD-1+ CD4+ TEM cells with four elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α). By such individualized stage-dependent comparison, the sustainable immune activation was found from activation/exhaustion shifted into exhaustion during the longitudinal viral persistence. Further, validated SIV accelerates host immunosenescence continuously independent of viral replication.

Squeezed state light is a fundamental resource for many quantum optics experiments. Important applications like quantum-enhanced magnetometer and quantum key distribution, require the squeezing level as high as possible. In balanced homodyne detection, the detector output is directly proportional to the noise of the squeezed beam. The detected quadrature is dependent on the relative phase between the squeezed beam and local oscillator. Here, we present a balanced homodyne detector (BHD) with independent phase control and noise detection branches. The independence between the phase control and noise detection branches is experimentally verified, the two branches are independently optimized according to the practical requirements. With the BHD, a bright squeezed light at 1550 nm with quantum noise reduction of 10.3 dB is directly detected. After stabilizing the relative phase between the squeezed states and local oscillator by the phase locking branch of the BHD, the fluctuation of the noise suppression is ±0.2 dB by 1-h testing time.

Hyperspectral reflectance (HR) technology as proxy approach to diagnose fusarium head blight (FHB) in wheat crop could be a real-time and non-invasive approach for its in-field management to reduce grain damage. In-field canopy’s non-imaging HR (400–2400 nm using ground-based spectrometer system), photosynthesis rate (Pn) and disease severity (DS) data were simultaneously acquired from artificially inoculated wheat plots over a period of two years (2020 and 2021) in the field. Subsequently, continuous wavelet transform (CWT) was employed to select the consistent spectral bands (CSBs) and to develop the canopy-based difference indices with criterion of variable importance score using random forest—recursive feature elimination. Thereby, different machine learning algorithms were employed for FHB classification and multivariate estimation, and linear regression models to evaluate the newly developed indices against conventional vegetation indices. The results showed that inoculation reduced the Pn rate of spikes, elevated reflectance in visible and short-wave infrared regions and decreased in near infrared region at different days after inoculation (DAI). CWT analysis selected five CSBs (401, 460, 570, 786 and 840 nm) employing datasets from 2020 and 2021. These spectral bands were employed to develop wheat fusarium canopy indices (WFCI1 and WFCI2). Considering the average classification accuracy (ACA) in both years of experiments, WFCI1 manifested a maximum ACA of 75% at 5 DAI with DS of 9.73% which raised to 100% at 10 DAI with a DS of 18%. ACA mentions the averaged results of all machine learning classifiers (MLC). While in the perspective of MLC, random forest (RF) outperformed the rest of the MLC, individually, it revealed 100% classification accuracy through WFCI1 at DS 10.78% on the eight DAI. The univariate estimation of disease based on WFCI1 and WFCI2 with independent data produced R2 and root mean square error (RMSE) values of 0.80 and 14.7, and 0.81 and13.50, respectively. However, Knn regression analysis with both canopy indices (WFCI1 and WFCI2) manifested the maximum accuracy for disease estimation with RMSE of 11.61 and R2 = 0.83. Conclusively, the newly proposed HR indices show great potential as proxy approach for detecting FHB at early stage and understanding the physical state of crops in field conditions for the better management and control of plant diseases.

Background Computing genomic similarity between strains is a prerequisite for genome-based prokaryotic classification and identification. Genomic similarity was first computed as Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI) values based on the alignment of genomic fragments. Since this is computationally expensive, faster and computationally cheaper alignment-free methods have been developed to estimate ANI. However, these methods do not reach the level of accuracy of alignment-based methods. Methods Here we introduce LINflow, a computational pipeline that infers pairwise genomic similarity in a set of genomes. LINflow takes advantage of the speed of the alignment-free sourmash tool to identify the genome in a dataset that is most similar to a query genome and the precision of the alignment-based pyani software to precisely compute ANI between the query genome and the most similar genome identified by sourmash. This is repeated for each new genome that is added to a dataset. The sequentially computed ANI values are stored as Life Identification Numbers (LINs), which are then used to infer all other pairwise ANI values in the set. We tested LINflow on four sets, 484 genomes in total, and compared the needed time and the generated similarity matrices with other tools. Results LINflow is up to 150 times faster than pyani and pairwise ANI values generated by LINflow are highly correlated with those computed by pyani. However, because LINflow infers most pairwise ANI values instead of computing them directly, ANI values occasionally depart from the ANI values computed by pyani. In conclusion, LINflow is a fast and memory-efficient pipeline to infer similarity among a large set of prokaryotic genomes. Its ability to quickly add new genome sequences to an already computed similarity matrix makes LINflow particularly useful for projects when new genome sequences need to be regularly added to an existing dataset.

Objective: Clinical trials are the most effective way to judge the merits of diagnosis and treatment strategies. The in-depth mining of clinical trial data enables us to grasp the application trend of artificial intelligence (AI) for cancer diagnosis. The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of registered trials on AI for cancer diagnosis.Methods: Clinical trials on AI for cancer diagnosis registered on the ClinicalTrials.gov database were searched and downloaded. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS 20.0 software.Results: A total of 97 registered trials were included. Of them, only 27 (27.8%) were interventional trials and 70 (72.1%) were observational trials. Fifteen (15.4%) trials had been completed. Fifty trials were in recruitment, and another 18 remained unrecruited. The number of cases included in the clinical trials tended to be large, 31 (32.0%) trials including samples ranging from 100 to 499 cases and 17 (17.5%) trials including samples ranging from 500 to 999 cases. Of the 27 interventional trials, only two trials reported trials' phase. Most (85.2%) interventional trials were for diagnosis, and a few (3.7%) were for the purpose of both the diagnosis and therapy of cancers. For the observational clinical trials, 46 (65.7%) were cohort studies, and 11 (15.7%) were case-only studies. Among the observational trials, 46 (65.7%) were prospective studies and 13 (18.6%) were retrospective studies. Among 97 trials, 37 (38.1%) involved colorectal cancer, 11 (11.3%) involved breast cancer, 43 (44.3%) were for imaging diagnosis, 33 (34.0%) were for endoscopic diagnosis, and 11 (11.3%) were for pathological diagnosis. For the interventional trials, 11 trials were parallel assignment (40.7%), and 14 were single group assignment (51.9%). Among the 27 interventional trials, 18 (66.7%) trials were performed without masking, 6 (22.2%) trials were performed with single masking, only 1 (3.7%) was performed with double masking, and 2 (7.4%) was performed with triple masking.Conclusion: It appears that most registered trials on AI for cancer diagnosis are observational design, and more trials are needed in this field.

Poor survival on plants can limit the efficacy of Biological Control Agents (BCAs) in the field. Yet bacteria survive in the atmosphere, despite their exposure to high solar radiation and extreme temperatures. If conditions in the atmosphere are similar to, or more extreme than, the environmental conditions on the plant surface, then precipitation may serve as a reservoir of robust BCAs. To test this hypothesis, two hundred and fifty-four rain-borne isolates were screened for in vitro inhibition of Erwinia amylovora, the causal agent of fire blight, as well as of other plant pathogenic bacteria, fungi and oomycetes. Two isolates showed strong activity against E. amylovora and other plant pathogenic bacteria, while other isolates showed activity against fungal and oomycete pathogens. Survival assays suggested that the two isolates that inhibited E. amylovora were able to survive on apple blossoms and branches similarly to E. amylovora. Pathogen population size and associated fire blight symptoms were significantly reduced when detached apple blossoms were treated with the two isolates before pathogen inoculation, however, disease reduction on attached blossoms within an orchard was inconsistent. Using whole genome sequencing, the isolates were identified as Pantoea agglomerans and P. ananatis, respectively. A UV-mutagenesis screen pointed to a phenazine antibiotic D-alanylgriseoluteic acid synthesis gene cluster as being at the base of the antimicrobial activity of the P. agglomerans isolate. Our work reveals the potential of precipitation as an under-explored source of BCAs, whole genome sequencing as an effective approach to precisely identify BCAs, and UV-mutagenesis as a technically simple screen to investigate the genetic basis of BCAs. More field trials are needed to determine the efficacy of the identified BCAs in fire blight control.

Background: Lung cancer is the most common malignant tumor worldwide. Accumulating results have shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a key role in tumorigenesis.Patients and Methods: A total of 163 tumor tissues were collected from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients from West China Hospital of Sichuan University. LincRNA00494 is a novel lncRNA, and its expression and biological effect in NSCLC were reported in this study. NSCLC cell lines were used in this study.Results:LincRNA00494 is mainly distributed in the cytoplasm. LincRNA00494 was downregulated in the tumor tissues compared with the adjacent non-tumor tissues. LincRNA00494 expression was positively correlated with SRCIN1 expression (R = 0.57, P < 0.05). Silencing of LincRNA00494 in the cell lines substantially decreased SRCIN1 expression at the mRNA and protein levels, whereas overexpression of LincRNA00494 enhanced the SRCIN1 levels. miR-150-3p significantly decreased the luciferase signals of LincRNA00494 and SRCIN1 reporters. After transfection with miR-150-3p mimics and miR-150-3p inhibitor, overexpression of LincRNA00494 decreased the proliferation of the H358 (36%) and H1299 (29%) cell lines compared with that of the control cells, as shown by CCK-8 assays, whereas silencing LincRNA00494 promoted the proliferation of the H358 (47%) and H1299 (35%) cells. Tumor growth from LincRNA00494-overexpressing xenografts was significantly decreased; additionally, LincRNA00494 silencing substantially increased tumor growth compared with that of the control cells.Conclusions: Functional experiments revealed that LincRNA00494 inhibited NSCLC cell proliferation, which might be related to the suppression of SRCIN1, a tumor suppressor gene, by acting as a decoy for miR-150-3p. The data showed that LincRNA00494 might have antineoplastic effects during NSCLC tumorigenesis through its role as a ceRNA.

Introduction: Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital vascular disorder characterized by a triad of cutaneous port wine capillary malformations, varicose veins, and hemihypertrophy of bone and soft tissues. Aims: To report on a rare case of KTS in an adult man manifested by painless urethral bleeding during penile erection briefly review the clinical presentation and management of the genitourinary forms of this syndrome. Methods: On presentation, the clinical features of this patient, including medical history, signs and symptoms, and imaging examinations, were recorded. After diagnosis and initial treatment, a literature review of the urethral features of KTS was performed and is discussed in this report. Results: A 35-year-old man with KTS presented with painless urethral bleeding during penile erection that was associated with posterior urethral vascular malformations. The coagulation method was used to treat the malformation, and no urethral bleeding or gross hematuria occurred during a postoperative follow-up period of 6 months. Conclusion: This case demonstrates that coagulation therapy and careful follow-up can be adequate treatment approaches for urethral features of KTS. Many keywords in a sentence that represents the semantic propensity of the sentence. These words can exist anywhere in the sentence, which poses a great challenge to sentence semantic classification. The current sentence semantic classification methods usually tackle this problem by the use of attention mechanism, and most of them utilize softmax function to calculate each word’s weight. According to the observation that a word with higher score carries more valuable information in sentence modeling, this paper presents a novel low-complexity model termed as CNN-BiGRU by integrating both convolution neural network (CNN) and bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU). Both the contextual representations and the semantic distribution are obtained through BiGRU, and the latter is constrained to a Gaussian distribution. In addition, the proposed model utilizes a shallow word-level CNN to obtain intermediate representations, and the score of each word is denoted as the Euclidean distance between the intermediate representations and the semantic distribution. Then, the final representations are obtained by the combination of the contextual representations and the score of each word, and thus, the model learns a compact code for sentence sentiment classification and can be trained end-to-end with limited hyper-parameters. In conclusion, the proposed model is able to focus both the keywords and the underlying semantics of the words. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on seven benchmarks. Compared with the state-of-the-art models, our model has excellent performance.

The slurry pump is widely used in ore mining, metal smelting, petrochemical, and other industries, mainly to transport fluid media containing large solid particles. Importantly, it is easy to damage the impeller of a slurry pump in the operation process, which greatly affects the performance of the pump. In this paper, a 25 MZ slurry pump was selected as the research object, and the Euler–Euler multiphase flow model was employed to analyze the internal flow characteristics of the slurry pump under the conditions of clear water and solid–liquid two-phase flow. Additionally, the flow characteristics of each part under different flow conditions were studied, and the effects of different particle volume concentrations, particle sizes, and pump speeds on the impeller’s wear characteristics and hydraulic performance were analyzed. In order to verify the reliability and accuracy of the numerical simulation results, clean water and solid–liquid two-phase flow wear tests of the slurry pump were carried out, and the results showed that a high solid volume fraction and solid–phase slip velocity were generated at the junction of the blade leading edge and the rear cover plate, thus leading to easier wear of the blade. Therefore, enhancing the strength of the junction between the blade leading edge and the rear cover plate is beneficial for improving service life and should be considered in the design of slurry pumps.

Video deflectometer based on using off-axis digital image correlation (DIC) has emerged as a robust non-contact optical tool for deflection measurements of bridges. In practice, a video deflectometer often needs to measure the deflections at multiple positions of the bridge. The existing 2D-DIC-based measurement methods usually use a laser rangefinder to measure the distance from each point to the camera to obtain the scale factor for the point. It is only suitable for the deflection measurements of a few points since manually measuring distances for a large number of points is time consuming and impractical. In this paper, a novel method for full-field bridge deflection measurement based on off-axis DIC is proposed. Because the bridge is usually a slender structure and the region of interest on the bridge is often a narrow band, the new approach can determine the scale factors of all the points of interest with a spatial straight-line fitting scheme. Moreover, the proposed technique employs reliability-guided processing and a fast initial parameter estimation strategy for real-time and accurate image-matching analysis. An indoor cantilever beam experiment verified the accuracy of the proposed approach, and a field test of a high-speed railway bridge demonstrated the robustness and practicability of the technique.

Suppressing and removing mine dust from the working face is an important task for underground mines worldwide. In this paper, a numerical study was carried out to investigate the influence of ventilation arrangement on the mechanism of dust distribution. The Woxi Pithead of Hunan Chenzhou Mining Co., Ltd, China, was used as a case study, which adopted a widely used far-pressing-near-absorption (FPNA) ventilation system. Based on the theory of gas-solid two-phase flow, the program ANSYS Fluent was utilized, and the three-dimensional airflow migration and dust diffusion numerical models were simulated. The established computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models were validated using the airflow velocity data and the dust concentration data monitored at different positions from the operating coal mine. A comprehensive sensitivity study was conducted to investigate the influence of four parameters on dust suppression, including the distance of pressure air duct outlet from working face (Lp-outlet), the distance of exhaust air duct inlet from working face (Le-inlet), the ratio of pressing air volume to lab sorption air volume (K), and the installation height of the air duct (H). The optimum ventilation layout parameters were obtained through the simulation of the wind field and dust behaviour. The results show that there were four regions during the airflow field, namely, the jet zone, the recirculation zone, the vortex zone, and the mixing zone of pressure and exhaust airflow. All four parameters were found to have an important influence on the mass concentration of dust, and the optimum ventilation layout parameters were determined to be Lp-outlet = 18 m, Le-inlet = 3 m, K = 1.2, and H = 1.6 m.

Background and objective Diagnostic modes may play an important role in treatments, but minimal information is available regarding their relationship in patients with lung cancer. This study may contribute to decision making in clinics and public health centers. Methods The records of 505 hospitalized surgical patients with lung cancer at the Department of Thoracic Surgery, West China Hospital of Sichuan University from January 2013 to December 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were categorized into physical examination group (PEG, 131 patients) and symptomatic group (SG, 374 patients). Surgical approach, pathological stage, and diagnostic mode were analyzed. Results Low-dose computed tomography (46.6%, 61/131) and computed radiography (51.1%, 67/131) were used as key diagnosis methods in 131 patients in PEG. The percentage of hospitalized surgical patients with lung cancer detected via physical examination in the city (35.4%, 80/229) was also significantly higher than in the township (18.1%, 50/276) (P

The high-temperature environment is a major factor that affects deep mining. Cooling has become a major expense, accounting for up to 25% of the total energy consumption of such mines. To address methods of cooling and the cooling cost, this paper studies the influence of the ventilation duct layout on the cooling effect. Six models were created in ICEM-CFD (3D modeling software), and the influence of cold airflow diffusion on the temperature of the mine environment was numerically simulated using ANSYS Fluent. Under the condition of the same ventilation volume, two models utilizing single pipe and double pipe scenarios were established, and six points were selected as the pipeline suspension position, forming six ventilation duct models. The cooling effect of each model was evaluated by analyzing the average temperature of the roadway section, the three-dimensional distribution of the roadway temperature and the velocity streamline of the whole roadway. The results show that the double-tube model has greater advantages than the single-tube model does, due to its superior local temperature, average temperature of the cross-section, range below 303 K, temperature uniformity and local wind speed. Among the models, model 4 (diameter of 0.5 m, 1.9 m away from the bottom of the roadway and 2.4 m away from the center of the circle) is the best pipeline layout scheme for comprehensive temperature values, roadway temperature uniformity and other factors. The average temperature is 299.3 K within 8 m from the mining face, which is 1.66 K lower than that of the single tube model. This configuration will increase the comfort of the mining environment and reduce cooling costs. These results can provide a reference for ventilation duct layouts of roadways in high temperature mines.

We report on a sequential control scheme to realize a steady, quasi-continuous output of squeezed vacuum states, which eliminates the influence of the seed beam on the squeezing strength. The scheme, originating from time-division multiplexing, separates the generation process from the locking process. We confirm that the sequential control scheme does not reduce the squeezing strength and that the setup operates stably for a 3-h running test, with a duty ratio of 80% and cycle time of 5 s. Therefore, the sequential control scheme opens up a new path of manipulating squeezed vacuum states.

Soybean seed coat exists in a range of colors from yellow, green, brown, black, to bicolor. Classical genetic analysis suggested that soybean seed color was a moderately complex trait controlled by multi-loci. However, only a couple of loci could be detected using a single biparental segregating population. In this study, a combination of association mapping and bulk segregation analysis was employed to identify genes/loci governing this trait in soybean. A total of 14 loci, including nine novel and five previously reported ones, were identified using 176,065 coding SNPs selected from entire SNP dataset among 56 soybean accessions. Four of these loci were confirmed and further mapped using a biparental population developed from the cross between ZP95-5383 (yellow seed color) and NY279 (brown seed color), in which different seed coat colors were further dissected into simple trait pairs (green/yellow, green/black, green/brown, yellow/black, yellow/brown, and black/brown) by continuously developing residual heterozygous lines. By genotyping entire F2 population using flanking markers located in fine-mapping regions, the genetic basis of seed coat color was fully dissected and these four loci could explain all variations of seed colors in this population. These findings will be useful for map-based cloning of genes as well as marker-assisted breeding in soybean. This work also provides an alternative strategy for systematically isolating genes controlling relative complex trait by association analysis followed by biparental mapping.

This paper proposes a randomized subspace learning based anomaly detector (RSLAD) for hyperspectral imagery (HSI). Improved from robust principal component analysis, the RSLAD assumes that the background matrix is low-rank, and the anomaly matrix is sparse with a small portion of nonzero columns (i.e., column-wise). It also assumes the anomalies do not lie in the column subspace of the background and aims to find a randomized subspace of the background to detect the anomalies. First, random techniques including random sampling and random Hadamard projections are implemented to construct a coarse randomized columns subspace of the background with reduced computational cost. Second, anomaly columns are searched and removed from the coarse randomized column subspace by solving a series of least squares problems, resulting in a purified randomized column subspace. Third, the nonzero columns in the anomaly matrix are located by projecting all the pixels on the orthogonal subspace of the purified subspace, and the anomalies are finally detected based on the L2 norm of the columns in the anomaly matrix. The detection performance of RSLAD is compared with four state-of-the-art methods, including global Reed-Xiaoli (GRX), local RX (LRX), collaborative-representation based detector (CRD), and low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition base anomaly detector (LRaSMD). Experimental results show good detection performance of RSLAD with lower computational cost. Therefore, the proposed RSLAD offers an alternative option for hyperspectral anomaly detection.

A Probabilistic Weighted Archetypal Analysis method with Earth Mover’s Distance (PWAA-EMD) is proposed to extract endmembers from hyperspectral imagery (HSI). The PWAA-EMD first utilizes the EMD dissimilarity matrix to weight the coefficient matrix in the regular Archetypal Analysis (AA). The EMD metric considers manifold structures of spectral signatures in the HSI data and could better quantify the dissimilarity features among pairwise pixels. Second, the PWAA-EMD adopts the Bayesian framework and formulates the improved AA into a probabilistic inference problem by maximizing a joint posterior density. Third, the optimization problem is solved by the iterative multiplicative update scheme, with a careful initialization from the two-stage algorithm and the proper endmembers are finally obtained. The synthetic and real Cuprite Hyperspectral datasets are utilized to verify the performance of PWAA-EMD and five popular methods are implemented to make comparisons. The results show that PWAA-EMD surpasses all the five methods in the average results of spectral angle distance (SAD) and root-mean-square-error (RMSE). Especially, the PWAA-EMD obtains more accurate estimation than AA in almost all the classes of endmembers including two similar ones. Therefore, the PWAA-EMD could be an alternative choice for endmember extraction on the hyperspectral data.
