Mestrado em Gestão de Sistemas de Informação O mundo como o conhecemos irá mudar caso não façamos nada para o impedir. Apela-se cada vez mais a uma maior consciencialização das populações alertando-as para a adoção de comportamentos mais sustentáveis. Sustentáveis não só a nível ambiental como também ao nível social e económico para que, sem exclusões, contribuamos para a mudança que deve ser feita. A dissertação procura analisar e avaliar o comportamento de um conjunto de indicadores de sustentabilidade em Portugal de forma a perceber enquanto país, se estão a ser tomadas as decisões e as estratégias mais acertadas para contribuir para um planeta mais sustentável. Para essa avaliação será desenvolvido para cada um dos indicadores selecionados um modelo de previsão tendo como base os dados registados até ao ano de 2019. Para o seu desenvolvimento vai ser seguida uma abordagem de aprendizagem automática que se espera que auxilie na resolução do objetivo proposto. Os resultados do trabalho desenvolvido permitiram concluir que apesar dos desafios inerentes, Portugal está comprometido e num bom caminho para contribuir para um mundo mais sustentável. The world as we all know will change in case we did not do anything to stop it. There is an increasing call for the awareness of populations by alerting them to adopt more sustainable behaviours. Not only at the environmental level but also at the social and economic level so that, without exclusions, we contribute to the change that must be made. The dissertation seeks to analyse and evaluate the behaviour of a set of sustainability indicators in Portugal to understand, as a country, if the measures and strategies implemented have been the most appropriate to contribute for a more sustainable planet. To make that evaluation will be developed for each one of the selected indicators a forecast model having into account all recorded data until the year of 2019. For its development will be followed a machine learning approach, which is expected to help in the resolution of the proposed objective. RESUMO: Contexto: A trombose Venosa Cerebral (TVC) tem sido diagnosticada em número crescente graças ao aperfeiçoamento técnico e maior acessibilidade dos métodos de imagem. Em cerca de metade dos casos documentam-se lesões encefálicas venosas (LEV) em RM de sinal hiperintenso nas imagens ponderadas em T2 de natureza heterogénea, edematosa, isquémica ou hemorrágica. O quadro clínico agudo é inespecífico. A imagem é fulcral no diagnóstico final com especial destaque para a RM. Utilizando diferentes sequências é possível caracterizar em detalhe tanto o sistema venoso cerebral (SVC), como o trombo, bem como as LEV. Estas podem traduzir-se por edema vasogénico, citotóxico ou focos de susceptibilidade paramagnética. À excepção do conhecido efeito preditivo negativo da presença hemática na TVC, não são conhecidos outros factores preditivos da RM com impacto no resultado clínico final. Objectivo: Os autores pretendem identificar eventuais variáveis imagiológicas preditoras de outcome final e dar um contributo para melhor compreensão da história natural desta entidade nosológica. Deste modo, pretende-se o diagnóstico precoce de TVC, melhorar o seu prognóstico clínico e reduzir as complicações. Método: Os doentes com diagnóstico de TVC são avaliados por Imagem em três tempos de estudo com o mesmo protocolo técnico de imagem: T1 sag, DP/T2 ax, Flair ax, T2* ax, T2 cor, Difusão e Veno-RM. É feita a análise de 6 variáveis da amostra e de 13 variáveis da RM. Posteriormente é desenhado um modelo de regressão logística univariável e multivariável em relação com o resultado clínico final avaliado pela escala modificada de Rankin. Resultados: No nosso grupo de estudo (n=101) a presença de LEV (36,8%) e a circulação colateral aumentada (44,6%) apresentaram evidência individual e multivariável de associação estatisticamente significativa com o resultado clínico final. Enquanto a LEV se associa a um pior prognóstico (OR 15,130), a circulação colateral revelou ter efeito protector (OR 0,091). A maioria dos doentes teve alta funcionalmente independente (84,7%) com predominante repermeabilização venosa parcial (62,8%). Conclusão: A circulação venosa cerebral aumentada parece ser o único factor protector na TVC que aparenta ser uma doença tendencialmente benigna e crónica. Mais estudos serão necessários para validar estas novas constatações. ABSTRACT: Background: Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (CVT) seems to be more frequent than previously thought thanks to new Neuroimaging technics that allow early, sensible and sensitive diagnosis. It is reported that in nearly half of the CVT cases, venous encephalic lesions (VEL) are identified. These appear as hyperintensitys in T2 WI on MRI and are of heterogeneous nature. Although their true physiopathology remains unknown, they are thought to have different degrees of oedematous oedema, cytotoxic oedema or haemorrhagic components. On the other side, it is recognized that this haemorrhagic VEL have a negative predictive value. However, little is known about the clinical outcome impact of other MRI signs. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of other MRI signs in relationship to clinical outcome. Methods: 101 patients with CVT were registered. MRI scan was repeated in 3 different time spans. 13 different variables were analysed. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression models were applied. Clinical outcome was evaluated using modified Rankin scale. Results: The presence of VEL (36,8%) and the extended venous collateral circulation (44,6%) revealed statistically significant outcome evidence. While VEL were associated to bad outcome (OR 15,130), the increased venous collateral circulation appears to have a protective effect (OR 0,091). At hospital discharge the majority of patients (84,7%) were functionally independent with predominant partial recanalization (62,8%). Conclusion: An increased venous collateral circulation seems to be a protective factor and statistically associated with better clinical outcome. CVT, on the other hand, appears to be a more benign pathology that tends to chronicity. Further studies will be necessary to confirm this new statements.

A beleza tem uma grande importância na sociedade e, como tal, a procura de um sorriso que se enquadre é cada vez mais uma constante no consultório do Médico Dentista. Os diastemas interincisivos têm um impacto gigante no paciente que os possui. Para além de todas as consequências que podem causar, a componente estética tem um peso muito grande. A maioria dos pacientes que vem à consulta de Medicina Dentária para encerrar o “espaço entre os dentes” refere a estética como motivo principal. Existem varias opções de tratamento para um diastema interincisivo, é fundamental percebermos a sua etiologia. A erupção dentária, a ausência de dentes, a hereditariedade, ou os hábitos podem causar a abertura desse diastema e é da responsabilidade do médico dentista juntamente com o paciente, decidir a melhor opção de tratamento. O encerramento de diastemas pode ser feito com tratamento ortodôntico, com resinas compostas, com facetas ou com coroas, sendo que é nosso dever eleger a melhor opção de acordo com o objetivo e expectativa do paciente. Assim, foi realizada uma revisão da bibliográfica para conhecer os fatores etiológicos e os métodos de encerramento de diastemas, juntamente com um caso clínico onde foi demonstrada a efetividade do uso das resinas compostas.

Porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) is a rare disease, with a strong association with hepatitis C virus. PCT is particularly problematic in end-stage renal disease patients as they have no renal excretion of porphyrins and these are poorly dialyzed. Also, conventional treatment of PCT is compromised in these patients as hydroxychloroquine is contraindicated, phlebotomies with the stipulated frequency are poorly tolerated in already anaemia-prone patients, and iron-chelating agents are less efficient in removing iron and contribute to worsening anaemia. The authors report a patient on haemodialysis, with hepatitis C infection, that is diagnosed with PCT. Despite the good clinical results with deferoxamine, she became dependent on blood transfusions because of her ferropenic state. Every time oxide iron was started, the patient developed clinical features of the disease, resolving after the suspension of the drug. A decision was made to start the patient on ferric carboxymaltose, which was well tolerated without disease symptoms and need of further blood transfusions. This case suggests that deferoxamine is efficient in treatment of porphyria cutanea tarda. Also, ferric carboxymaltose may be a valuable option for refractory anaemia in patients with this disease and end-stage renal disease, as it seems to provide iron without clinical relapse of the disease.

Introduction: Syphilis is a sexual and vertical transmitted disease. Its incidence is increasing in Europe, particularly, in Portugal. Material and Methods: A descriptive, retrospective study was performed based on positive treponemal tests from January to December 2013, at the Santa Maria Hospital, Lisbon. In-patients and out-patients evaluated in medical appointments and at the emergency department were included. We proceeded to epidemiological characterization, disease classification and definition of risk factors. Results: We obtained a sample of 580 patients, of whom 51 with no clinical data and 45 with false positive serologies were excluded. There was a predominance of male patients (75%) and a mean age of 47 years. Most (59%) had syphilis successfully treated in the past and 3.7% were in follow-up. We recorded 13 primaries syphilis, 71 cases of secondary syphilis, 40 cases of early latent syphilis, 49 unknown duration syphilis and five cases of late latent syphilis. In the early syphilis group, 42% (n = 124) were HIV-positive and, in 8% both diagnosis were done simultaneously. Discussion: We emphasize the high prevalence of syphilis/HIV co-infection in patients with early syphilis, reinforcing the importance of promoting the use of preventive measures. We obtained 11% of patients with late clinical forms, which are notifiable since June 2014, in Portugal. All serological tests for the diagnosis of syphilis have limitations which emphasizes the importance of clinical-laboratory correlation. Conclusion: Syphilis remains an important public health problem. It is necessary to establish education programs, screening and follow-up strategies to reduce their prevalence and to perform more efficient screening of the partners. publishersversion published

Dissertação de mestrado em Informação, Comunicação e Novos Media, apresentada à Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra O presente trabalho pretende ser uma contribuição para a análise da questão do lugar e da importância do papel, como hoje o conhecemos, face ao desenvolvimento das novas tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC) que vieram revolucionar e pôr em causa o lugar de muitos dos artefactos do nosso quotidiano. Irá o consumo de papel diminuir, inversamente ao crescimento dos dispositivos de tecnologia digital que permitem a criação, circulação, gestão e arquivo de documentos electrónicos? Estatísticas avalizadas mostram um crescimento exponencial na produção e consumo de equipamentos baseados nas novas tecnologias digitais, mas evidenciam igualmente que o consumo de papel para impressão, apesar da crise económica em curso, está também a aumentar de forma muito significativa. Serão aqui levantadas as questões consideradas mais pertinentes para compreender a situação e o lugar do papel, especialmente como suporte de escrita, apesar das suas muitas outras utilizações que a necessidade ou a capacidade técnica do ser humano, aliadas ao desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias químicas e industriais, veio permitir. Partindo da percepção que sobre o assunto tem a comunidade dos alunos da área da Ciência da Informação em Portugal, será equacionada a questão do uso e consumo de papel face ao inquestionável estabelecimento das novas tecnologias digitais, nas actividades diárias e comuns de todos. This study is a contribution to the analysis of the issue of the place and importance of the role, as we know it today, given the development of new technologies of information and communication technology (ICT) that have revolutionized and undermine the place of many of artifacts of everyday life. Will paper consumption decrease inversely to the growth of digital technology devices usage that enable the creation, circulation, management and archiving of electronic documents? Statistics show endorsed an exponential growth in consumption and production of equipment based on new digital technologies, but also show that the consumption of paper for printing, despite the ongoing economic crisis, is also increasing very significantly. Raised here will be the issues considered most relevant for understanding the situation and place of the paper, especially as support for writing, despite its many uses other than the need or the technical capacity of human beings, coupled with the development of new chemical technologies and industrial has allowed. Based on the perception that the subject has a community of students from the area of information science in Portugal, will be equated to question the use and consumption of paper against the unquestioned establishment of new digital technologies, and common daily activities of all.

The purpose of this poster is to present the position of Luciano Floridi relatively the type of philosophy that can serve as theoretical support to Information Science (IS), contributing for clarification and discussion of ideas in the set of disciplines gyrating around the subject of information, more specifically, in scope of (IS). The methodology has an undergone analysis of published studies and an extensive and reflected synthesis work. Rather than seeking to argue Philosophy of Information (PI) as the philosophy of IS is our goal present and characterize this emerging philosophy (whose appearance is justified by establishment of the Information Society) and bring it to the epistemological debate IS.
