This paper discusses a generalization of virtual knot theory that we call multi-virtual knot theory. Multi-virtual knot theory uses a multiplicity of types of virtual crossings. As we will explain, this multiplicity is motivated by the way it arises first in a graph-theoretic setting in relation to generalizing the Penrose evaluation for colorings of planar trivalent graphs to all trivalent graphs, and later by its uses in a virtual knot theory. As a consequence, the paper begins with the graph theory as a basis for our constructions, and then proceeds to the topology of multi-virtual knots and links. The second section of the paper is a review of our previous work (See arXiv:1511.06844). The mock Alexander polynomial is an extension of the classical Alexander polynomial, defined and studied for (virtual) knots and knotoids by the second and third authors. In this paper we consider the mock Alexander polynomial for generalizations of knotoids. We prove a conjecture on the mock Alexander polynomial for knotoids, which generalizes to uni-linkoids. Many superconducting on-chip filter-banks suffer from poor coupling to the detectors behind each filter. This is a problem intrinsic to the commonly used half wavelength filter, which has a maximum theoretical coupling of 50 %. In this paper we introduce a phase coherent filter, called a directional filter, which has a theoretical coupling of 100 %. In order to to study and compare different types of filter-banks, we first analyze the measured filter frequency scatter, losses, and spectral resolution of a DESHIMA 2.0 filter-bank chip. Based on measured fabrication tolerances and losses, we adapt the input parameters for our circuit simulations, quantitatively reproducing the measurements. We find that the frequency scatter is caused by nanometer-scale line-width variations and that variances in the spectral resolution is caused by losses in the dielectric only. Finally, we include these realistic parameters in a full filter-bank model and simulate a wide range of spectral resolutions and oversampling values. For all cases the directional filter-bank has significantly higher coupling to the detectors than the half-wave resonator filter-bank. The directional filter eliminates the need to use oversampling as a method to improve the total efficiency, instead capturing nearly all the power remaining after dielectric losses., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. In this paper, we construct mock Alexander polynomials for starred links and linkoids in surfaces. These polynomials are defined as specific sums over states of link or linkoid diagrams that satisfy $f=n$, where $f$ denotes the number of regions and $n$ denotes the number of crossings of diagrams.

The paper studies knots in three dimensional projective space. Our technique for this purpose is to associate a virtual link to a link in projective space so that equivalent projective links go to equivalent virtual links (modulo a special flype move). The entanglement of open curves in 3-space appears in many physical systems and affects their material properties and function. A new framework in knot theory was introduced recently, that enables to characterize the complexity of collections of open curves in 3-space using the theory of knotoids and linkoids, which are equivalence classes of diagrams with open arcs. In this paper, new invariants of linkoids are introduced via a surjective map between linkoids and virtual knots. This leads to a new collection of strong invariants of linkoids that are independent of any given virtual closure. This gives rise to a collection of novel measures of entanglement of open curves in 3-space, which are continuous functions of the curve coordinates and tend to their corresponding classical invariants when the endpoints of the curves tend to coincide.

The total face color polynomial is based upon the Poincar\'{e} polynomials of a family of filtered $n$-color homologies. It counts the number of $n$-face colorings of ribbon graphs for each positive integer $n$. As such, it may be seen as a successor of the Penrose polynomial, which at $n=3$ counts $3$-edge colorings (and consequently $4$-face colorings) of planar trivalent graphs. We investigate operator algebraic origins of the classical Koopman-von Neumann wave function $\psi_{KvN}$ as well as the quantum mechanical one $\psi_{QM}$. We introduce a formalism of Operator Mechanics (OM) based on a noncommutative Poisson, symplectic and noncommutative differential structures. OM serves as a pre-quantum algebra from which algebraic structures relevant to real-world classical and quantum mechanics follow. In particular, $\psi_{KvN}$ and $\psi_{QM}$ are both consequences of this pre-quantum formalism. No a priori Hilbert space is needed. OM admits an algebraic notion of operator expectation values without invoking states. A phase space bundle ${\cal E}$ follows from this. $\psi_{KvN}$ and $\psi_{QM}$ are shown to be sections in ${\cal E}$. The difference between $\psi_{KvN}$ and $\psi_{QM}$ originates from a quantization map interpreted as "twisting" of sections over ${\cal E}$. We also show that the Schr\"{o}dinger equation is obtained from the Koopman-von Neumann equation. What this suggests is that neither the Schr\"{o}dinger equation nor the quantum wave function are fundamental structures. Rather, they both originate from a pre-quantum operator algebra. Finally, we comment on how entanglement between these operators suggests emergence of space; and possible extensions of this formalism to field theories., Comment: 30 pages

We study invariants of virtual graphoids, which are virtual spatial graph diagrams with two distinguished degree-one vertices modulo graph Reidemeister moves applied away from the distinguished vertices. Generalizing previously known results, we give topological interpretations of graphoids. There are several applications to virtual graphoid theory. First, virtual graphoids are suitable objects for studying knotted graphs with open ends arising in proteins. Second, a virtual graphoid can be thought of as a way to represent a virtual spatial graph without using as many crossings, which can be advantageous for computing invariants.

We discuss Vassiliev invariants for virtual knots, expanding upon the theory of quantum virtual knot invariants developed in arXiv:1509.00578. In particular, following the theory of quantum invariants we work with 'rotational' virtual knots. We define chord diagrams, weight systems, and give examples of Lie algebra weight systems of rotational virtual knots. We define three different types of spanning surfaces for knots in thickened surfaces. We use these to introduce new Seifert matrices, Alexander-type polynomials, genera, and a signature invariant. One of these Alexander polynomials extends to virtual knots and can obstruct a virtual knot from being classical. Furthermore, it can distinguish a knot in a thickened surface from its mirror up to isotopy. We also propose several constructions of Heegaard Floer homology for knots in thickened surfaces, and give examples why they are not stabilization invariant. However, we can define Floer homology for virtual knots by taking a minimal genus representative. Knotted vortices such as those produced in water by Kleckner and Irvine tend to transform by reconnection to collections of unknotted and unlinked circles. The reconnection number $R(K)$ of an oriented knot of link $K$ is the least number of reconnections (oriented re-smoothings) needed to unknot/unlink $K$. Putting this problem into the context of knot cobordism, we show, using Rasmussen's Invariant that the reconnection number of a positive knot is equal to twice the genus of its Seifert spanning surface. In particular an $(a,b)$ torus knot has $R = (a-1)(b-1).$ For an arbitrary unsplittable positive knot or link $K$, $R(K) = c(K) - s(K) + 1$ where $c(K)$ is the number of crossings of $K$ and $s(K)$ is the number of Seifert circles of $K.$ Examples of vortex dynamics are illustrated in the paper., Comment: 26 pages. 22 figures. This paper is a memory of the work and influence of Vaughan Jones. It is an exposition of the remarkable breakthroughs in knot theory and low dimensional topology that were catalyzed by his work. The paper recalls the inception of the Jones polynomial and the author's discovery of the bracket polynomial model for the Jones polynomial. We then describe some of the developments in knot theory that were inspired by the Jones polynomial and involve variations and generalizations of this invariant. The paper is written in the form of a personal odyssey and with the intent to show different mathematical themes that arise in relation to the Jones polynomial. This invariant can be interpreted in relation to combinatorial topology, statistical mechanics, Lie algebras, Hopf algebras, quantum field theory, category theory and more. In each case the Jones invariant appears as a key example for patterns and connections of these mathematical and physical contexts. In the prequel of this paper, Kauffman and Ogasa introduced new topological quantum invariants of compact oriented 3-manifolds with boundary where the boundary is a disjoint union of two identical surfaces. The invariants are constructed via surgery on manifolds of the form $F \times I$ where $I$ denotes the unit interval. Since virtual knots and links are represented as links in such thickened surfaces, we are able also to construct invariants in terms of virtual link diagrams (planar diagrams with virtual crossings). These invariants are new, nontrivial, and calculable examples of quantum invariants of 3-manifolds with non-vacuous boundary. Since virtual knots and links are represented by embeddings of circles in thickened surfaces, we refer to embeddings of circles in the 3-sphere as {\it classical links}. Classical links are the same as virtual links that can be represented in a thickened 2-sphere and it is a fact that classical links, up to isotopy, embed in the collection of virtual links taken up to isotopy. We give a new invariant of classical links in the 3-sphere in the following sense: Consider a link $L$ in $S^3$ of two components. The complement of a tubular neighborhood of $L$ is a manifold whose boundary consists in two copies of a torus. Our invariants apply to this case of bounded manifold and give new invariants of the given link of two components. Invariants of knots are also obtained. In this paper we calculate the topological quantum invariants of some examples explicitly. We conclude from our examples that our invariant is new and strong enough to distinguish some classical knots from one another. This paper discusses ER = EPR, the hypothesis of Susskind and Maldacena that entangled black holes are connected by an Einstein-Rosen bridge, and that more generally, quantum entanglement is accompanied by topological connectivity. Given a background space and a quantum tensor network, we describe how to construct a new topological space, that welds the network and the background space together. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Zbigniew Oziewicz, to his generosity, intelligence and intensity in the search that is science and mathematics. The paper begins with a basic construction that produces Clifford algebras inductively, starting with a base algebra A that is associative and has an involution. This construction is an analog of the Cayley-Dickson Construction that produces the complex numbers, quaternions and octonions starting from the real numbers. Our basic construction always produces associative algebras and can be iterated an indefinite number of times. We generalize the basic construction to a group theoretic construction where a group G acts on the algebra A, and show how this group theoretic construction is related to matrix algebras. We present an assessment of the distance in total variation of \textit{arbitrary} collection of prime factor multiplicities of a random number in $[n]=\{1,\dots, n\}$ and a collection of independent geometric random variables. More precisely, we impose mild conditions on the probability law of the random sample and the aforementioned collection of prime multiplicities, for which a fast decaying bound on the distance towards a tuple of geometric variables holds. Our results generalize and complement those from Kubilius et al. which consider the particular case of uniform samples in $[n]$ and collection of "small primes". As applications, we show a generalized version of the celebrated Erd\"os Kac theorem for not necessarily uniform samples of numbers.

We examine computer experiments that can be performed to understand the dynamics of knots under self-repulsion. In the course of specific computer exploration we use the knot theory of rational knots and rational tangles to produce classes of unknots with complex initial configurations that we call hard unknots, and corresponding complex configurations that are topologically equivalent to simpler knots. We shall see that these hard unknots and complexified knots give examples that do not reduce in the experimental space of the computer program. That is, we find unknotted configurations that will not reduce to simple circular forms under self-repulsion, and we find complex versions of knots that will not reduce to simpler forms under the self-repulsion. It is clear to us that the phenomena that we have discovered depend very little on the details of the computer program as long as it conforms to a general description of self-repulsion. Thus, we suggest on the basis of our experiments that sufficiently complex examples of hard unknots and sufficiently complex examples of complexified knots will not reduce to global minimal energy states in self-repulsion environments. We define a family of Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy types for the homotopical Khovanov homology of links in thickened surfaces indexed by moduli space systems. This family includes the Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy type for the homotopical Khovanov homology of links in higher genus surfaces (see the content of the paper for the definition). The question whether different choices of moduli spaces lead to the same stable homotopy type is open.
