4. Treatment of mouth breathing is the joint concern of the pediatrician, the rhinologist, the orthodontist and the pedodontist. Each child should have a complete pediatric appraisal. Actual treatment is divided into three parts: removal o f the nasal or pharyngeal ob ­ structions by surgery or appropriate m ed­ ication by the rhinologist; interception o f the habit with an oral screen by the pedodontist; and correction o f the mal­ occlusion by the orthodontist.

We have presented the highlights of your Federation's history, achievements, current programs, and plans for the future. Recognizing the need for action, your Federation is doing its best to deliver, is working in your behalf, and will be guided by your response and encouragement through your Delegates. The Federation was designed to collectively represent you and your interests in relation to this changing world. To disregard change, to remain complacent, will leave the direction of our future in the hands of others less knowledgeable in our professional specialty. If we are to maintain a steady growth in the art and science of prosthodontics, we must move. The future is still in our hands; let us be grateful for the handhold and stimulate ourselves to greater cooperative activities that will preserve the best of the past while striving for the best of the future.

A number of procedures are suggested for conditioning patients, primarily to relieve pain, so that a diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disturbances can be made more easily. These procedures relieve the patient of pain before attempts to correct errors in occlusion are made.
