In light of the research on and development of the experimental and teaching system for electric power engineering program, an open multifunctional experimental-teaching system is built with the theory and practice of all major professional courses combined for not only their auxiliary teaching experiments, but also the comprehensive application of and research on professional knowledge. Thus students are enabled to train in work on comprehensive experimental topics and application topics using what knowledge acquired to cultivate their hands-on ability, multiple application ability and innovative ability. Applications of the system in China's 100-odd universities are favorably commented on by students for its excellent instructional effects.

The design and implementation of a high-performance virtual instrumentation (VI) based on the Rogowski coil are discussed. The instrumentation can measure pulsed heavy currents of the high-power high-voltage laser source whose performance indices are introduced. The analysis of models, including both time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics of the Rogowski coil, is presented. Problems related to the data acquisition systems (DASs), including the window data transfer technique, have been investigated to meet the requirements of real-time testing applications. Some experimental results verifying the validity of the proposed instrumentation for measuring pulsed currents of the laser source are presented.

A real-time optimal excitation controller (RTOEC) is proposed in this paper. The identifier in the RTOEC can properly identify the system parameters by the non-linear least squares method. Thus a new optimal feedback matrix can be calculated in real-time from the identification results and the disturbances in the system. So the RTOEC can track quickly the operating status of the generator and always provide optimal control. Simulation studies carried out on the Three Gorges 700MW hydropower generator show that the RTOEC can provide good performance over a wide range of operating conditions and improve the static and transient stability of power system effectively.

A new solution called seamless computing model based on grid platform is presented in this paper, to satisfy the requirements of OPF computation. This proposed computing model is applied to optimal power flow (OPF). Based on boundary current-ejecting method, the electric network is partitioned, and nonlinear flow equations are converted into linear equations. Then two different OPF tasks are designed and run on the grid platform. By dispatching properly, the computing gap may be deceased, and computing efficiency enhances. To value the performance of this computing model, the total speedup (TO) and total efficiency (TE) are put forward. Different experiments are done on different size "Lab-Grid." The result has shown that seamless computing model may acquire higher TS and TE.

VSC HVDC has a wide application prospect and it has many merits in contrast to conventional HVDC. The models of AC/DC hybrid power system with VSC HVDC are established in this paper. Utilizing the fast power flow adjustment ability of VSC HVDC, a novel control strategy stabilizing AC and DC system synthetically is proposed. A performance index, which is composed of generator and AC system variables, is formed for the optimization of controller parameters by using genetic algorithm (GA). The simulation results illustrate that with the proposed control strategy, the AC and DC system can recover rapidly from a large disturbance; furthermore, they have no negative influence on each other

A novel hybrid comparator centered on the configuration of a controllable saturation reactor (CSR) is described. The proposed comparator include four windings (i.e. detection winding, primary winding, secondary winding and excitation winding), a single toroidal core, AC voltage excitation source, detection processing unit, feedback loop and peripheral circuits. The terminal voltage from the detection winding is asymmetric waveform when the CSR is stimulated both by AC source and DC biasing magnetic potential. The differential RMS of half waves of the terminal voltage is adopted as feedback variance to balance DC biasing magnetic potential forming a self-balancing control model. The control principle and output characteristics of the novel comparator are analyzed. The simulation model of the comparator based on the SIMULINK environment of MATLAB software is presented. Experimental results can verify the truth of the proposed comparator model, which has such features as simple construction, single core, easy operation, high sensitivity and satisfactory output characteristic without false-balance points

The present sequential and parallel computing can not satisfy the requirements of large-scale power system computation. This paper introduces a new solution called the grid computing model, which may greatly enhance total speed and efficiency by utilizing existing resources without incurring any additional hardware costs. In this paper, the proposed grid computing model is applied to optimal power flow (OPF). Multiple partition is implemented on OPF, and relations among tasks are tuned effectively. Two different OPF computation schemes are designed and run on the same "Lab Grid". To evaluate the performance of grid platform, the total speedup (TS) and the total efficiency (TE) are put forward in this paper. Different experiments are done on the different size "Lab Grid". The resulting data has shown that the grid model is capable of acquiring higher TS and TE. The grid model will become one of most effective means to solve electric power computation problems
