Abstract

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) type VI causative gene SERPINF1, encodes a member of the serpin family that does not display the serine protease inhibitory activity shown by many of the other serpin proteins. The encoded protein (pigment epithelium-derived factor, PEDF) has anti-tumor, anti-angiogenesis, anti-inflammation, nutrition and nerve protection functions, and participates in fat metabolism. In this paper, a series of bioinformatics analyses were conducted based on the regulation of SERPINF1 in the human. Pan-cancer analysis of SERPINF1 revealed it to play a role in the prognosis of tumors, especially in KIRC, and that high expression of SERPINF1 leads to a poor prognosis of the disease, the occurrence of which is largely related to the high expression of SERPINF1 leading to immune infiltration of cancer associated fibroblasts. Mutation analysis found that SERPINF1 had eight identical amino acids alterations sites with different in both cancer and OI patients. which hints the possible relationship between genotype and phenotype.

Abstract

The Wnt signal transduction plays a vital role in regulating development throughout the animal kingdom. The Wnt signal transduction is complex, including Wnt ligands, receptors, coreceptors, transducers, transcription factors, antagonists, agonists and their modulators, and target genes. It is classified into β-catenin-dependent canonical and independent non-canonical Wnt (mainly planar cell polarity and Wnt/Ca2+) signaling pathways. Wnt signaling pathway is causative to multiple human diseases. Gene mutations from the components of WNT signaling machinery have been identified to relate with low or high bone mass diseases, such as osteogenesis imperfecta, Robinow syndrome, osteoporosis-pseudoglioma syndrome, and sclerosteosis. In this review, we provide an update of the Wnt signaling pathway and the bone diseases caused by the aberrant components of the pathways.

44. A preparation method for the treatment of Cr(VI) composite adsorbent Ca-AC

Abstract

The effects of weight ratio of Eucalyptus and CaCl2, carbonization temperature and carbonization time on the composite adsorbent (Ca-AC) were studied. The best conditions for composite adsorbent (Ca-AC) were obtained: the weight ratio of CaCl2 to the eucalyptus sawdust was 2:1; the carbonization temperature was 650 °C; the carbonization time was 80 min. The Ca-AC yield reached 28.88%; the Cr(VI) adsorption value was 131.03 mg±g-1. The morphology and structure of the adsorbents were characterized. The results showed that the specific surface area of Ca-AC can reach 713 m2±g-1. The carboxyl, hydroxyl, lactones groups and amino could be determined on the activated carbon surface.

47. The Joint Effects of Social Norm Appeals and Fear Appeals in COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign Posters on Self-Perceived Communication Quality and Vaccination Intention

Abstract

To understand how different types of cues in vaccine education messages affect attitude toward campaign messages and vaccination intention, this study examined the impact of the presence of social norm appeals (individual vs. group cues) and the presence of fear appeals in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine campaign posters on perceived communication quality and vaccination intention. A 2 (social norm appeal: individual cue vs. group cue) × 2 (fear appeal: absence vs. presence) × 3 (repetition) within-subject factorial design experiment was conducted in China. Findings demonstrated that the presence of fear appeals in COVID-19 vaccine campaign posters elicited lower levels of perceived communication quality and vaccination intention than those without fear appeals. The interactive effect of fear appeals and social norm appeals was also found to be significant. Specifically, positive-framed messages (i.e., absence of fear appeals) with group cues and fear appeal messages with individual cues elicited higher perceived information quality and stronger vaccination intention than other types of messages. Understanding how these cues function jointly in COVID-19 vaccine campaign messages will help public health practitioners create more effective intervention strategies.
