2. Effects of Micro-topography Modification on Soil Moisture Dynamics in Cold and Arid Mining Areas of Southern Piedmont of Tianshan Mountain

Abstract

[Objective] The effects of spatial and temporal dynamics of soil moisture on micro-topography modification (0—50 cm) were determined in order to provide a scientific basis and theoretical support for land reclamation and ecosystem reconstruction in cold and arid mining areas of the southern piedmont of Tianshan Mountain. [Methods] The study was conducted in the coal-mining area of Baicheng Runhua. Micro-topography changes to the overburden platform and slope of reclaimed mine land were evaluated. Soil moisture content was monitored from May to November 2022 for comparative experimental analysis. [Results] The soil moisture content of the platform storage ditch and the catchment slope transformation increased 37.03% and 25.85% respectively, and the relative enhancement effect was shown to be catchment slope > storage ditch. The water storage ditch and the catchment slope modification methods improved the temporal stability of soil moisture, and their relative effects were found to be water storage ditch > catchment slope. The soil moisture contents of the side slope reverse-slope terraces and the fish-scale pit transformation increased by 6.48% and 13.22%, respectively, and the relative enhancement effect was shown to be fish-scale pit> reverse-slope terrace. The fish-scale pit transformation method improved the temporal stability of soil moisture, and the reverse-slope terrace transformation method reduced the temporal stability of soil moisture. [Conclusion] Under the two topographical conditions of platform and side slope, the transformation of the catchment slope was more conducive to the ecological management of the damaged mine platform, and the transformation of the fish-scale pit was more conducive to the ecological management of the damaged mine slope.

Abstract

Measurement of plasma parameters during the ablation phase in the Z-pinch is crucial for investigating the dynamic behaviors. In this study, optical Thomson scattering was employed to measure the temperature and velocity of the ablation plasma in a double-wire Z-pinch. The scattering spectra profiles were fitted using a model that considered the velocity distribution. The experimental results revealed the energy evolution of ablation plasma, the establishment of the global magnetic field and the development of axial non-uniformities. The precursor plasma was found to play a key role in strengthening the global magnetic field. A resistive layer near the wire core with a size of 1.5 mm was observed in the ablation plasma after the precursor plasma column formed. The plasma underwent rapid heating in this layer, the electron temperature rises from 17 eV to 22 eV. Upon leaving this layer, electron the temperature is stable at around 22 eV. The radial distribution of the ablation rate increases and decreases, indicating the axial motion of the ablation plasma, which could be caused by the tilt motion of the stream and the secondary modulation of the natural wavelength. Abstract

The Support Vector Machine (SVM) response surface method (RSM) is proposed on fast Markov chain simulation for the problem with implicit limit state function usually encountered in engineering reliability analysis and design. In the proposed method, Markov chain is used to generate the samples in the important region of the limit state function, and the SVM is employed to construct the response surface by use of these samples. Since Markov chain can adaptively simulate the samples in the important region, and the candidate state but not Markov state is used as the training samples for SVM, the proposed method can well approximate the limit state equation in the zone surrounding the design point, and can make full use of information provided by Markov chain simulation. In addition, the iterative strategy is adopted to improve the convergence speed of the failure probability. Moreover, the proposed method uses the SVM regression method to construct the response surface, which can automatically apply the Structural Risk Minimization (SRM) inductive principle in approximating the limit state equation, thus it can approximate the failure probability with high accuracy. Finally applications in a numerical example and an engineering example indicate that the proposed method owns good performance in calculating efficiency and accuracy.
