Live singleton deliveries at the largest maternal & childcare hospital in northwest China from 2010 to 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. Abstract

Recently, the mainstream hardware vendors such as Intel and AMD have made significant efforts to integrate the central processing unit (CPU) and the graphics processing unit (GPU) into a single chip, which forms a coupled CPU-GPU architecture. Data transfer between the CPU and the GPU through a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express bus is eliminated on this architecture, which provides new opportunities for database community to optimize query processing. Because of the lack of comprehensive evaluation of database systems on coupled CPU-GPU platforms, it is difficult for academic and industry researchers to make appropriate decisions on improvement and optimization directions. In this paper, we conduct an extensive experimental study to evaluate an online analytical processing system on Intel and AMD machines. The performance difference is measured and analyzed when executing queries on integrated GPUs and multicore CPUs. The impacts of various parameters, data sizes, and optimization techniques on performance are also investigated. The results provide preliminary insights into database query and operator behaviors on state-of-the-art coupled CPU-GPU architectures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Four-wave mixing spectra for liquid pyridine are obtained with broadband laser beam. A comparison of Stokes and anti-Stokes spectra allows the assignment of several lines (951, 991, 1030 cm −1 ) to CARS and CSRS processes. Two additional moderately intense lines on the Stokes side between 951 and 991 cm −1 as well as 991 and 1030 cm −1 , which do not appear on the anti-Stokes side, are assigned to a “hybrid four-wave mixing” process, in which two active Raman modes of pyridine are involved. This process previously unrevealed in experiment seems to be important for correct assignment of the spectral lines in four-wave mixing experiments with a broadband laser beam.

40. The effect of quercetin on cervical cancer cells as determined by inducing tumor endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis and its mechanism of action.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to explore the effect of quercetin on cervical cancer cells by inducing tumor endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and apoptosis and its mechanism of action., Methods: HeLa cells were treated with different concentrations of quercetin, and the cell viability was measured using methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) colorimetric assays. The apoptosis rate was measured using flow cytometry. The changes in the related protein X (Bax), B-cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 (Bcl-2), and G1/S-specific cyclin-D1 (Cyclin D1) levels after the HeLe apoptosis were determined using Western blot, and the changes in the human cystinase-3 (Caspase-3), glucoprotein 78 (GRP78), and enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) levels, and the receptor-related protein levels in the ERS pathway/endoribonuclease inositol requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1), and the phosphorylated pancreatic endoplasmic reticulum stress kinase (p-Perk), and the activated transcription factor-6 (ATF6) levels were also quantified., Results: After treating the HeLa cells with different concentrations of quercetin, the cell viability was inhibited to varying degrees, showing a significant time and concentration dependence. The apoptosis rate in the quercetin group increased significantly in comparison with the blank control group, and the apoptosis rate also showed a tendency to increase progressively with an increasing concentration of the quercetin (P<0.05). The Bax and Bcl-2 levels in the quercetin intervention group showed a tendency to increase progressively in comparison with the blank control group, and Cyclin D1 showed a tendency to decrease progressively (P<0.05). The of Caspase-3, GRP78, and CHOP expression levels in the quercetin intervention group rose significantly in comparison with the blank control group (P<0.05). The IRE1, p-Perk, and c-ATF6 levels in the quercetin intervention group showed a tendency to rise gradually in comparison with the blank control group (P<0.05)., Conclusion: Quercetin may promote the apoptosis of cervical cancer HeLe cells by inducing the tumor ERS pathway., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2021.)

Abstract

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on the spatial learning-memory ability and the expression of NR 2 B subunit of NMDA receptor in the amygdala (AMG) in rats with morphine withdrawal., Methods: A total of 40. SD rats were randomized into control, model, manual acupuncture and EA groups (n = 10 in each group). The morphine withdrawal model was established by subcutaneous injection of morphine hydrochloride injection at doses of 20, 30, 40, 50 and 50 mg . kg-1 . d-1 continuously for 5 days, followed by injection of naloxone (i. p., 3 mg/kg) for rapid induction of withdrawal syndrome. Manual acupuncture or EA stimulation was applied to bilateral "Shenshu"(BL 23) and "Zusanli" (ST 36), once daily for 6 days. Morris water maze swimming test was conducted for detecting the rats' spatial learning-memory ability. The expression levels of NR 2 B protein and mRNA in AMG was measured by Western blot and Real time-PCR, respectively., Results: Compared to the control group, the escape latency on day 5 of swimming tests was obviously prolonged in the model group (P<0. 01), while in comparison with the model group, the escape latencies in both manual acupuncture and EA groups were obviously shortened (P<0. 01), suggesting an improvement of the rats' learning-memory ability. In addition, the expression levels of NR 2 B protein in both manual acupuncture and EA groups and that of NR 2 B mRNA in the EA group were significantly higher than those of the model group (P<0. 01, P<0. 05)., Conclusion: Both manual acupuncture and EA interventions can improve the learning-memory ability in morphine withdrawal rats, which is probably partially related to their effects in up-regulating the expression of NR 2 B in the AMG.
