International audience; The use of electric motors or generators for aircraft application requires fewer prime movers and auxiliary equipment than conventional propulsion systems. Thus, the performance in terms of efficiency, reliability is improved. However, the dynamic behaviour of an aircraft required motor which transmit high torque on the propellers. The challenge is to develop an axial-field superconducting motor or a generator with high power density, up to 20 kW/kgThe inductor is composed of several YBCO bulks located inside a YBCO solenoid. The solenoid is fed by a direct current and produce a magnetic field in the axial direction. The diamagnetic behaviour of a superconducting bulk cooled under zero-field is used to obtain a variation of the magnetic flux density in the air-gap. The YBCO bulks is one of the critical parts of this electrical machine. It is therefore important to know their characteristic. In this paper, we present experimental tests for the YBCO bulk at several temperature in order to evaluate their performance in terms of screening.

International audience; Turbo-electric propulsion is seen as a potential solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the aircraft industry. However, electrical machines must achieve high power to mass ratios (PtM) to meet aviation requirements. Superconducting technologies are a promising option for creating compact and efficient machines. Indeed, superconductors make it possible to generate large magnetic fields while reducing the need for ferromagnetic materials. In previous works, a 50 kW partially superconducting flux modulation machine has been realised [1]. The flux modulation machine is an unconventional topology where the inductor is composed by a large static superconducting coil and rotating superconducting bulks acting as magnetic field shields. This topology allows controlling the inductor excitation while being brushless. In this paper, we design a 500 kW flux modulation machine considering the results of the 50 kW prototype and the constraints dues to the structure change of scale.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is the design study and realisation of portable low-field open MRI system. Design/methodology/approach The design of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is based on an optimization study using a genetic algorithm. Non-linear two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical electromagnetic models are developed and inserted in the optimization environment. Findings The results are found to be consistent with those issued from fully experimental tests. The static field produced by the device is 0.295 T with a homogeneity of 2.8% (28,000 ppm) over 100 mm diameter sphere volume. The z-axis gradient coils are capable of generating switching gradients with an amplitude of 8 mT/m and a frequency of 1.2 kHz. Originality/value Our system is an open portable MRI which can be used in an ambulance. The open topology permits an easy access into the lateral sides when a surgery using surgical instrument with video feedback is needed.

Dans cet article nous présentons la conception et les tests d'une machine supraconductrice à flux axial. Cette machine est partiellement supraconductrice car seul l’inducteur est supraconducteur. Ce prototype constitue une première étape vers une conception de machines de plusieurs MW

The aim of the school is to educate participants in different theoretical and practical aspects of the design and modelling of superconducting electrical machines. An essential point of this school will be the practical application during the afternoons of theoretical content seen in the morning. Each participant will have access to a computer with all the necessary software. As the school is intended for doctoral students or young researchers, activities allowing the integration of the group's members and networking will also be provided.The main topics covered are: Superconductivity, bulk superconductors and their magnetization Analytical modelling and design of HTS machines Modeling of HTS systems including ferromagnetic materials using open-source softwares (GMSH / GetDP...) Dynamic modelling and evaluation of AC Losses in HTS windings using T-A formulation in COMSOL

International audience; Les accouplements magnétiques sont généralement utilisés pour transmettre un mouvement de rotation entre deux arbres à travers une paroi étanche afin d’éviter tout contact avec le produit à traiter pour des raisons de sécurité ou d’hygiène. La transmission de couple s’effectue sans contact par l’interaction de champs magnétiques dans une zone de la paroi étanche, qui joue le rôle d’entrefer. Cet article présente les technologies d’accouplement magnétique les plus classiques, de type synchrone et asynchrone, ainsi que leurs principes de fonctionnement. Il traite de la modélisation électromagnétique de ces dispositifs afin de prévoir leurs performances en régime permanent.

International audience; Le but de ce travail est d'étudier un entrainement fort couple basse vitesse à base d'un moteur à induction associé à un réducteur de vitesse magnétique. L'objectif étant de remplacer le système classique associant un moteur asynchrone à un réducteur de vitesse mécanique en vue d'améliorer les performances et la fiabilité. Pour cela nous utilisons des outils analytiques et numériques en vue du dimensionnement électromagnétique de la machine.

Il s'agit de donner aux étudiants de Master de génie électrique les outils mathématiques nécessaires pour la modélisation analytique des actionneurs électromécaniques. Le cours donne les méthodes pratiques pour la résolution des équations aux dérivées partielles par la méthode de séparation des variables. Il est suivi par une série d’exercices et un projet de niveau Master qui consiste à déterminer l'expression analytique de l'induction dans l'entrefer d'une machine à aimants à pôles lisses et à comparer les résultats à un modèle numérique.

L’étude expérimentale des systèmes électriques est un élément fondamental de la formation du technicien et de l’ingénieur en génie électrique. Complément indispensable de l’étude théorique, elle lui permettra de confronter les modèles aux mesures et d’en montrer les limites.Pour les étudiants des différentes filières de génie électrique, comme pour leur enseignants (ou futurs enseignants) devant développer des travaux pratiques, l’ouvrage constitue un outil de travail efficace de mise en œuvre de méthodes expérimentales : description des méthodes de test et de mesure, choix du matériel, traitement des grandeurs, analyse des résultats.Chaque chapitre se compose d’un rappel théorique (équations fondamentales) et d’une étude pratique, basée sur des mesures effectuées sur un système du génie électrique. De nombreux thèmes sont abordés autour des réseaux électriques, des machines électriques, de l’électronique de puissance, de l’association machine-convertisseur. En complément à ces thèmes considérés comme classiques et pérennes, les auteurs proposent l’étude de systèmes plus spécifiques, liés à l’évolution sociétale de notre mode de production énergétique (utilisation de panneaux photovoltaïques, d’éoliennes…).

International audience; La transition vers des architectures d'avions à propulsion hybride ou électrique, requiert l'utilisation de machines électriques de puissance supérieure au MW avec une technologie permettant de contenir l'augmentation de masse par une limitation des pertes par effet Joules. Une machine supraconductrice à modulation de flux est donc étudiée pour répondre à ce besoin. C'est une structure de machine électrique particulière dont seule la partie inductrice est composée de matériaux supraconducteurs à haute température critique (HTC). La première étape porte sur la création d'un prototype de 50kW tournant à 5000tr/min. L'optimisation électromagnétique de cette machine a été réalisée. Cet article se concentre sur l'étude théorique des pertes spécifiques à cette machine et donne une première réponse sur la répartition des pertes électriques et thermiques.

International audience; This paper deals with a device which is particularly relevant to test 3D quasi-static magnetic numerical computations: axial eddy-current coupling. The authors have performed several numerical FEM computations for this particular device. The eddy currents problem is solved thanks to two classical formulations based on magnetic vector and scalar potentials. Results are compared with experimental measurements made on a magnetic transmission already designed and built.

Poster; International audience; The development of cryo-magnets based on REBaCuO type superconductors that can generate up to 17 T requires the implementation of a magnetization system and therefore, it involves one or more coils around the superconducting materials. Currently, the most convenient way to magnetize a bulk High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) is to use a Pulsed Field Magnetization (PFM). It can generate strong magnetic fields while using a relatively compact and simple coil. Thus, bulk HTS can be directly magnetized, in situ, into the final application.In a previous work [1], we have studied and designed different coils in order to magnetize, using PFM, an inductor of a radial flux superconducting machine with one pair of poles. Each pole contains four HTS bulks that can be placed in a square or rectangular pattern. For a given primary source of energy, here a capacitor bank of 10 kJ (5 mF, 2 kV), the PFM process strongly depends on the inductance value of the coil used to magnetize because it defines the waveform of the current: the peak value and the time constant. Thus, a 3D modeling of the coil is required in order to be sure that the magnetic field produced will allow to fully magnetize the bulk HTS. From the practical point of view, we would like to achieve an average magnetization of each pole around 4 T. The maximal magnetic field applied to the sample is in the range of 6 to 10 T, Fig. 1, so such value seems achievable.In this paper, the induced currents and trapped fields in the bulk HTS for several geometries of poles will be studied by means of numerical simulations. Presented results will be the maximal trapped magnetic field of each bulk HTS, and the estimated magnetization of the poles of the inductor.References[1] K.
