Abstract Consumer acceptability of beers is influenced by product formulation and processing conditions, which impart unique sensory profiles. This study used multivariate techniques to evaluate at‐home consumer sensory acceptability of six commercial beers considering their style, fermentation type, and chemical composition. Samples included top‐fermented beers (American India Pale Ale and Stout) and bottom‐fermented beers (Pilsner, zero‐alcohol Pilsner, Vienna Lager, and Munich Dunkel). Beer consumers (n = 50) conducted sensory hedonic, check‐all‐that‐apply (CATA) and just‐about‐right (JAR) tests. IntroductionArtificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming multiple sectors within our society, including education. In this context, emotions play a fundamental role in the teaching-learning process given that they influence academic performance, motivation, information retention, and student well-being. Thus, the integration of AI in emotional assessment within educational environments offers several advantages that can transform how we understand and address the socio-emotional development of students. However, there remains a lack of comprehensive approach that systematizes advancements, challenges, and opportunities in this field.AimThis systematic literature review aims to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is used to evaluate emotions within educational settings. We provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research, focusing on advancements, challenges, and opportunities in the domain of AI-driven emotional assessment within educational settings.MethodThe review involved a search across the following academic databases: Pubmed, Web of Science, PsycINFO and Scopus. Forty-one articles were selected that meet the established inclusion criteria. These articles were analyzed to extract key insights related to the integration of AI and emotional assessment within educational environments.ResultsThe findings reveal a variety of AI-driven approaches that were developed to capture and analyze students’ emotional states during learning activities. The findings are summarized in four fundamental topics: (1) emotion recognition in education, (2) technology integration and learning outcomes, (3) special education and assistive technology, (4) affective computing. Among the key AI techniques employed are machine learning and facial recognition, which are used to assess emotions. These approaches demonstrate promising potential in enhancing pedagogical strategies and creating adaptive learning environments that cater to individual emotional needs. The review identified emerging factors that, while important, require further investigation to understand their relationships and implications fully. These elements could significantly enhance the use of AI in assessing emotions within educational settings. Specifically, we are referring to: (1) federated learning, (2) convolutional neural network (CNN), (3) recurrent neural network (RNN), (4) facial expression databases, and (5) ethics in the development of intelligent systems.ConclusionThis systematic literature review showcases the significance of AI in revolutionizing educational practices through emotion assessment. While advancements are evident, challenges related to accuracy, privacy, and cross-cultural validity were also identified. The synthesis of existing research highlights the need for further research into refining AI models for emotion recognition and emphasizes the importance of ethical considerations in implementing AI technologies within educational contexts.

On the 21st of May 2023, a dead adult male sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) of 13 m in length and estimated weight of around 18,000 kg was reportedly stranded at Playa Los Nogales, La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. A necropsy was performed 48hpm. A 50 cm diameter and 9.5 kg coprolite was found obstructing the caudal colon-rectal lumen. Necro-hemorrhagic lesions were found in heart muscles and three different bacteria of intestinal origin were isolated and identified (Edwarsiella tarda, Hathewaya limosa and Clostridium perfringens). It is reported a lethal septicemia of intestinal origin associated with ambergris coprolite as cause of death in this sperm whale.

Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy associated with high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality and increased future risk of cardiovascular complications. Objective: To analyze whether women who have had PE with severe features in their pregnancy have higher arterial stiffness (AS) parameters than those whose PE course was without signs of severity. Methods: Sixty-five women who developed PE during their gestation were evaluated, divided into two groups: PE group without severe features or non-severe PE (n = 30) and PE group with severe features or severe PE (n = 35). Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV), central augmentation index corrected to a heart rate of 75 beats per minute (AIxc75) and central augmentation pressure (cAP) were determined one month and six months postpartum. Comparison of proportions was carried out using the chi-square test, comparison of means between groups using the Student’s t-test or the Mann–Whitney test, and comparison of means of the same group at different evolutionary moments, using the t-test or the Wilcoxon test. Correlation, with and between hemodynamic parameters, was carried out with Spearman’s correlation coefficient and the association between demographic variables, personal history and hemodynamic parameters, and altered arterial stiffness parameters was carried out using linear and logistic regression models. Results: Women with severe PE presented, both at 1 and 6 months postpartum, higher values of blood pressure, both central and peripheral, as well as AR and pulse amplification parameters, than those women whose PE was not severe. Central augmentation index (cAIx) values at 1 month and 6 months postpartum were higher, although not significantly, in the severe PE group compared to the non-severe PE group (24.0 (16.5–34.3) vs. 19.0% (14–29) and 24.0 (14.0–30.0) vs. 20.0% (12.3–26.8), respectively). Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) was significantly higher at both 1 and 6 months postpartum in the severe PE group compared to the non-severe PE group (10.2 (8.8−10.7) vs. 8.8 m/s (8.3−9.6) and 10.0 (8.8−10.6) vs. 8.8 m/s (8.3−9.3), respectively). Central systolic pressure and central pulse pressure amplification were also higher, although not significantly, in the severe PE group in comparison with the non-severe PE group. Conclusions: Women who have had severe PE have more pronounced arterial stiffness parameters than those in whom PE was not particularly severe. The determination of cAIx and cfPWV, as a strategy for the assessment of cardiovascular risk, should be evaluated among women who have had PE. Resultados: Las mujeres con PE grave presentaban, al mes y a los 6 meses posparto, valores de presión arterial, tanto central como periférica, así como parámetros de RA y amplificación de pulso, superiores a aquellas mujeres cuya PE no revistió gravedad. Los valores del índice de aumento central (IAc) al mes y a los 6 meses posparto fueron superiores, aunque no de forma significativa, en el grupo de PE grave respecto al grupo de PE no grave (24,0 [16,5–34,3] vs. 19,0% [14–29] y 24,0 [14,0–30,0] vs. 20,0% [12,3–26,8], respectivamente). La velocidad onda de pulso carótida-femoral (VOPcf) fue superior de forma significativa, tanto al mes como a los 6 meses posparto en el grupo de PE grave respecto al grupo de PE no grave (10,2 [8,8–10,7] vs. 8,8 m/s [8,3–9,6] y 10,0 [8,8–10,6] vs. 8,8 m/s [8,3–9,3], respectivamente). La amplificación de la presión sistólica central y de la presión de pulso central fueron también superiores, aunque no de forma significativa, en el grupo de PE grave respecto al de PE no grave. Conclusión: Las mujeres que han tenido PE grave presentan parámetros de RA más acusados que los de aquellas en las que la PE no revistió especial gravedad. Debiera evaluarse la conveniencia de incluir de forma rutinaria entre las mujeres que han tenido PE la determinación del IAc y especialmente la VOPcf, como estrategia de evaluación del riesgo cardiovascular.

En este trabajo se estudia el papel de los eclesiásticos con órdenes menores en la sociedad castellana bajomedieval y renacentista. Analizamos la importancia numérica de los minoristas, los sistemas de incorporación a las estructuras eclesiásticas, las funciones que desempeñaban en las instituciones y la diversidad de campos, en ocasiones modestos, pero en otras relevantes, en que se constata su presencia. Tomamos como base la abundante información sobre el tema del Synodicon Hispanum y la contrastamos con otras fuentes de distinto tipo.

The flipped learning methodology could play a key role in teacher training, as it exposes future teachers to experience this active methodology as students. With the purpose of shedding light on how students' perceptions may vary over time and how they can be related to the improvement of the flipped learning methodology, our study explores different factors in an eight-year period. Specifically, we analyse teaching performance considering data on students' perceptions from the 2015–2016 academic year to 2022–2023 of a course embedded within a master s degree in teacher training in Spain. Once future teachers had experienced flipped learning as students, a sample of 338 completed a survey regarding their perceptions of the flipped classroom approach and the instructor role. In our study, the more experienced the instructor, the better perception the students showed on both the flipped learning methodology and the performance of their teacher. In particular, we found that future teachers had (i) a good or very good opinion about flipped learning, regardless of their gender (ii) a more positive perception about flipped learning, teaching performance and course development in the last five academic years, (iii) no remarkable differences between study specialisations in those last academic years, and (iv) a better opinion about the flipped learning model when they have best grades. We discuss our findings according to six factors that affect the flipped learning experience and, thus, students' perception of flipped learning over time: “student characteristics”, “teacher characteristics”, “implementation”, “task characteristics”, “out-of-class activities” and “in-class activities”—factors already unveiled by a recent state-of-the-art review to enhance the effectiveness of flipped classroom. We can conclude that the instructor's teaching experience is a key factor that affects the implementation of flipped learning, influencing students' perception and, consequently, the success of this active methodology.

Midday stem water potential (SWP) is rapidly becoming adopted as a standard tool for plant-based irrigation management in many woody perennial crops. A reference or "baseline" SWP has been used in some crops (almond, prune, grape, and walnut) to account for the climatic influence of air vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on SWP under non-limiting soil moisture conditions. The baseline can be determined empirically for field trees maintained under such non-limiting conditions, but such conditions are difficult to achieve for an entire season. We present the results of an alternative survey-based approach, using a large set of SWP and VPD data collected over multiple years, from irrigation experiments in olive orchards located in multiple countries [Spain, United States (California), Italy, and Argentina]. The relation of SWP to midday VPD across the entire data set was consistent with an upper limit SWP which declined with VPD, with the upper limit being similar to that found in Prunus. A best fit linear regression estimate for this upper limit (baseline) was found by selecting the maximum R 2 and minimum probability for various upper fractions of the SWP/VPD relation. In addition to being surprisingly similar to the Prunus baseline, the olive baseline was also similar (within 0.1 MPa) to a recently published mechanistic olive soil-plant-atmosphere-continuum (SPAC) model for "super high density" orchard systems. Despite similarities in the baseline, the overall physiological range of SWP exhibited by olive extends to about -8 MPa, compared to about -4 MPa for economically producing almond. This may indicate that, despite species differences in physiological responses to low water availability (drought), there may be convergent adaptations/acclimations across species to high levels of water availability. Similar to its use in other crops, the olive baseline will enable more accurate and reproducible plant-based irrigation management for both full and deficit irrigation practices, and we present tentative SWP guidelines for this purpose.

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute febrile illness that largely affects young children before 5 years of age. Younger children with KD are reported to have a higher prevalence of coronary artery abnormalities. Little is known about infants in the first 3 months of age diagnosed with KD. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the National Institute of Pediatrics in Mexico City from 1995 to 2019. Clinical features, laboratory results and cardiac outcomes were recorded. Infants in the first 3 months of age were compared with older patients. Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney analysis was performed for continuous variables and Fisher's exact test for categorical variables. Results: Six hundred and eighty-eight cases of KD were included in this study. Fourteen cases were diagnosed in the first three months of age. Heart failure and KD shock-syndrome was found in five cases (35.7%). Giant coronary artery aneurysms were found in six cases in the younger group (42.9%). Conclusions: Diagnosis of KD in children younger than 3 months of age is rare. In most cases, an incomplete presentation contributed to a delay diagnosis, treatment, and complications. Younger patients with KD have an increased risk of presenting cardiac complications, including giant coronary artery aneurysms, shock, and death.
