A medida de acolhimento familiar visa proporcionar às crianças e jovens retirados à sua família a integração num contexto familiar alternativo e protetor, bem como proporcionar-lhes os cuidados adequados ao seu desenvolvimento integral. Contudo, em Portugal, esta medida é aplicada residualmente. Neste sentido, esta dissertação pretende testar, pela primeira vez em Portugal, o papel das atitudes, da norma subjetiva e do controlo comportamental enquanto fatores explicativos da intenção comportamental relativos a se tornar família de acolhimento, à luz da Teoria do Comportamento Planeado. Participaram neste estudo 373 adultos portugueses, com idades entre os 26 e os 73 anos (M = 41.38, DP = 10.20) e maioritariamente do sexo feminino (86.3%). Os participantes preencheram um conjunto de questionários referentes aos dados sociodemográficos, às atitudes, norma subjetiva, ao controlo comportamental percebido e às intenções. Os dados foram analisados recorrendo a análises descritivas, correlacionais e uma regressão hierárquica. Os resultados obtidos revelam que as atitudes, a norma subjetiva e o controlo comportamental percebido são preditores significativos da intenção comportamental, explicando 54% da variância. Assim, níveis mais elevados de atitudes positivas face ao comportamento de se tornar família de acolhimento, de validação social do comportamento de se tornar família de acolhimento (i.e., norma subjetiva) e de controlo comportamental percebido estão associados a maior intenção comportamental. Os resultados serão discutidos à luz da literatura e apresentadas as implicações para a prática futura, nomeadamente, ao nível dos processos de seleção e recrutamento de famílias, para colmatar as necessidades existentes na comunidade portuguesa. Foster care aims to provide an alternative and protective family context to children and young people removed from their families, as well as providing them adequate care for their integral development. However, in Portugal, it is applied occasionally. Based in the Theory of Planned Behavior, this dissertation aims to test the role of attitudes, subjective norm, and behavioral control as predictors of the behavioral intention to become a foster family. A sample of 373 Portuguese adults, aged between 26 and 73 years (M = 41.38, SD = 10.20) and mostly female (86.3%) participated in this study. In the present study, a set of questionnaires referring to the participants' sociodemographic data, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and intentions were applied. Data were analysed using descriptive analyses, associations between variables and sociodemographic data and a hierarchical regression. The results revealed that attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control were significant predictors of behavioral intention, explaining 54% of the variance. So, higher levels of positive attitudes, social validation of becoming a foster family (i.e., subjective norms), and perceived behavioral control were associated with greater behavioral intention to be a foster family. The results will be discussed based in the literature, and the implications for future practice will be presented, namely, in terms of family selection and recruitment processes, to address the existing needs in the Portuguese context.

Dissertação para obtenção do grau de Mestre no Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz In the last few years, the sale of new psychoactive substances (synthetic drugs) has been steadily increasing on the street markets, since they are designed to circumvent the laws ruling drug use and are perceived by consumers as legal and less toxic compared to the illegal substances that they mimic. Within these new substances that are currently sold, synthetic cannabinoids are among the top selling classes. In order to contribute to the study of these substances, the present research project was developed, which aimed to analyse the cytotoxicity of three synthetic cannabinoids, one from the second generation (THJ-018) and two from the third generation (EG-018 and SGT-151), as purchased from the supplier and after purification. The human cell line SH-SY5Y was used, since it expresses the CB1 receptor. Thus, after purchasing the packaging via Internet, GC/MS content analysis revealed the existence of impurities. Subsequently, the original pack contents were purified by HPLC/DAD and the cytotoxicity of the obtained synthetic cannabinoids was verified by cell viability assays, namely MTT assays, where the cytotoxicity of the pure synthetic cannabinoids versus the original pack contents was compared. Contrary to the original contents of the THJ-018 and EG-018 packages, cell viability assays revealed a higher cytotoxicity of the original SGT-151 package contents than this synthetic cannabinoid after purification, suggesting that other substances present in the product enhance its toxicity. Nos últimos anos, o número de novas substâncias psicoativas (drogas sintéticas) tem vindo a crescer de forma continuada no mercado, uma vez que são desenhadas com o objetivo de contornar as leis que regulam o consumo e a venda das drogas. Estas substâncias são percecionadas pelos consumidores como legais e menos tóxicas em comparação com as substâncias ilegais que mimetizam. Dentro das novas substâncias que são atualmente comercializadas, os canabinoides sintéticos encontram-se entre as classes mais vendidas. Com o propósito de contribuir para o estudo destas substâncias, desenvolveu-se o presente projeto de investigação, que visou analisar a citotoxicidade de três canabinoides sintéticos, um de segunda geração (THJ-018) e dois de terceira geração (EG-018 e SGT-151), como adquiridos no fornecedor e após purificação. Foi empregue a linha celular humana SH-SY5Y, uma vez que expressa o recetor CB1. Após aquisição das embalagens via Internet, a análise do seu conteúdo por GC/MS revelou a presença de impurezas. Subsequentemente, o conteúdo original das embalagens foi purificado através de HPLC/DAD e a citotoxicidade dos canabinóides sintéticos obtidos foi verificada através de ensaios de viabilidade celular, nomeadamente ensaios MTT, onde se comparou a citotoxicidade dos canabinoides sintéticos puros versus o conteúdo original da embalagem consumido pelos utilizadores. Ao contrário do verificado com o conteúdo original das embalagens de THJ-018 e EG-018, os ensaios de viabilidade celular revelaram uma citotoxicidade do conteúdo original da embalagem SGT-151 superior à registada para este canabinoide sintético após purificação, sugerindo por isso que outras substâncias presentes no produto comercializado potenciam a sua toxicidade.

Olive tree (Olea europaea L.) growing area is threatened by the current and predicted adverse environmental conditions, affecting negatively plant performance and yield. Thus, agronomic strategies to offset those negative effects and improve olive orchards sustainability need to be implemented. In this regard, we propose the use of kaolin particle film, a natural heat and irradiance reflecting clay. To achieve a more comprehensive response about kaolin (5%) action, during two consecutive years we performed two different experiments, in different geographical locations of Portugal north-west with “Cobrançosa” cultivar: established olive trees under conventional rainfed conditions and under deficit irrigation (27.5% of ETc). Generally, during the summer period, kaolin was effective in improving water status and photosynthetic response, by reducing both stomatal and non-stomatal limitations. Moreover, improved leaf gas exchange restauration after the first rains persists during the winter months in rainfed conditions. Kaolin also reduces leaf sclerophylly, inducing shade-related leaf characteristics. As a result of better physiological performance achieved with kaolin application, yield increased 97% and 54.6% in rainfed and deficit irrigation conditions, respectively. Overall, the results of the present investigation revealed a cost-effective strategy to attenuate the negative effects of summer stress in olive trees, while allows to save water. Ultimately, this practice might contribute to increase the sustainability and competitiveness of this sector and anticipate solutions to the negative effects of climate change. The Mediterranean Basin is a climate change hot spot where substantial warming and lower water availability is predicted. This scenario poses considerable challenges to olive groves, a crop with great ecological and socioeconomic importance. ln order to overcome these constrains, new cropping practices focusing on water use efficiency must be investigated. ln this work we aimed to investigate water management practices that can ensure the adequate compromise between yield and the quality of olive products. The study was conducted in Quinta do Prado, Lodões, Vila Flor (41 °20'13.3"N, 7°05'54.2"W) and a full irrigation (FI) control, applied daily, equivalent to 100% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), was compared with three deficit irrigation strategies (DIS): regulated deficit irrigation (RDI; 80% of ETc in phases I and III of fruit growth and 10% of ETc in pit hardening stage, phase TI; 56 % of the ETc in all season), sustained deficit irrigation (SDI; 27.5% of ETc), and sustained deficit irrigation adopted by the farmer (SDIAF; 21.2% of ETc, applied weekly). The impact of treatments on fruit yield and quality during 2016 were evaluated. In a changing world, the search for new agronomic practices that help crops to maintain and/or increase yields and quality is a continuous challenge. Olive trees cultivated under rainfed conditions were sprayed with 5% kaolin (KL) and 100 μM salicylic acid (SA) during two consecutive years in the beginning of the summer season. Exogenous KL enhanced relative water content (RWC), stomatal conductance (gs) net photosynthesis (A) and IAA immunodetection, and decreased leaf sclerophylly, secondary metabolites and non-structural carbohydrates accumulation, ABA signal and DNA methylation, contributing to higher growth and yield. The plants treated with SA showed an enhancement in RWC, gs, A, soluble proteins, IAA, ABA and DNA methylation immunodetection and leaf P and Mg concentrations during the summer, leading to higher yield. As alterações climáticas projetadas para a bacia do Mediterrâneo, caracterizadas por verões mais severos associados a baixa pluviosidade, carga térmica excessiva e elevados níveis de irradiação poderão afetar a sustentabilidade da olivicultura. Neste estudo, foi investigado a aplicação foliar de caulino, uma prática agrícola inovadora que mostrou anteriormente melhorar a eficiência no uso da água em diferentes espécies vegetais, tendo desta forma um papel central na tolerância ao stresse estivai. O estudo foi realizado na Q.uinta do Prado, Lodões, Vila Flor, em olival em modo de produção biológico sob rega deficitária (27,5% da ETc), tendo sido avaliado o impacto da aplicação de caulino (5%, w/v) no rendimento e qualidade dos frutos e azeite. Com a aplicação foliar de caulino verificou-se um aumento de 54,6 % na produção de azeitona, acompanhada por uma redução do conteúdo total de fenóis e orto-difenóis e da atividade antioxidante (ABTS) e um aumento do conteúdo em flavonoides nos frutos. O tratamento com caulino apresentou teores de gordura mais elevados (60,4% DW) do que o tratamento controlo (48,5% DW). O perfil de ácidos gordos dos frutos não evidenciou alterações significativas entre tratamentos, tendo sido apenas evidente o aumento da concentração de ácido palmitoleico e a diminuição do teor de ácido linoleico nas árvores tratadas com caulino. A extração de azeite, realizada num moinho Oliomio 50 (Mori-Tem, Itália), revelou que o tratamento com caulino apresentou um aumento de 2,3 % no rendimento em azeite e um menor índice de peróxidos. O presente estudo apresenta uma nova visão sobre o efeito desta nova prática agrícola em olival sob rega deficitária, evidenciando que a aplicação foliar de caulino melhora o rendimento, não prejudicando a qualidade do azeite produzido, o que poderá ajudar no desenvolvimento sustentável do sector olivícola. O boro (B) é um elemento essencial para as plantas, sendo a sua deficiência na oliveira muito comum. As principais funções do boro estão relacionadas com a integridade e funcionalidade das membranas e paredes celulares, desenvolvimento de frutos e sementes, transporte de açúcares e com relações hídricas e hormonais. O estudo foi realizado em Bragança num olival de sequeiro, tendo sido iniciado em 2013 em plantas de 3 anos de idade da cultivar Cobrançosa. Foram avaliadas respostas fisiológicas e bioquímicas, ao nível da planta e do fruto, a dois tratamentos de B (3 kg ha-1 ano-1 e ausência de B). Após um período de 2 anos em que não se verificaram efeitos significativos, os resultados de 2016 e 2017 evidenciaram que as plantas fertilizadas com boro apresentaram melhor estado hídrico e atividade fotossintética, bem como maiores concentrações de açúcares solúveis nas folhas e nos caules, especialmente durante o período de stresse estival, com consequências positivas na produção de 2017. Os frutos das plantas fertilizadas apresentaram, na colheita de 2016, menor concentração de fenóis totais e de orto-difenois, e menor atividade antioxidante (ABTS). Em oposição, revelaram maior teor de gordura e importantes alterações no perfil de ácidos gordos maioritários, com aumentos dos teores dos ácidos palmítico (C16:0), palmitoleico (C16:1) e linoleico (C18:2) e menor teor de ácido oleico (C18:1). Como corolário, os frutos das árvores adubadas com B apresentaram maiores teores de ácidos gordos saturados (+3,7%) e menores teores de ácidos gordos monoinsaturados (-4,9%), bem como redução das razões insaturados/saturados e oleico/linoleico. O presente estudo mostrou que a aplicação de boro melhorou a fisiologia das árvores, protegendo-as contra situações ambientais adversas, e abriu novas perspetivas sobre a influência do B na composição química dos frutos, o que poderá ajudar a refinar as recomendações de fertilização para esta cultura. O presente Relatório Final de Estágio encontra-se dividido em duas partes distintas: as reflexões críticas das práticas em contexto e o trabalho de investigação. Na primeira parte é apresentada uma apreciação crítica das práticas em contexto prático, nomeadamente na educação pré-escolar e do ensino do 1.º CEB. Na segunda parte damos a conhecer o trabalho de investigação, baseado num estudo de natureza qualitativa realizado no contexto de 1.º CEB que visa conhecer e compreender a atividade lúdica e de autoformação nas aprendizagens das crianças do 1.º CEB. Para o efeito, recorremos a autores de referência e à legislação em vigor, assim como em termos empíricos, às respostas aos questionários dirigidos aos professores do 1.º CEB. O lúdico é considerado uma forma de proporcionar prazer, utilizando o imaginário e a criatividade nas várias formas de brincadeiras e jogos. Este estudo teve como objetivo principal, analisar o lúdico como auxílio pedagógico na formação das crianças enquanto seres em “construção” permanente. O brincar e o jogar são atividades fundamentais para o desenvolvimento da identidade e da autonomia do ser em desenvolvimento. A forma lúdica como a criança se insere no espaço de recreio, reflete a sua forma de pensar, agir e sentir. Nas brincadeiras as crianças desenvolvem capacidades importantes de atenção, memória e imaginação. Visto que os jogos e as brincadeiras são experiências que se correlacionam ao ambiente escolar, procuramos respaldar em embasamentos teóricos, através de pesquisas bibliográficas, observações e entrevista a professores, sobre a importância do lúdico em espaço de recreio para as aprendizagens das crianças do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico (1ºCEB) e a forma como os professores vêem o espaço de recreio, como fundamental para as aprendizagens das crianças do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. As opiniões dos professores foram analisadas, procedendo-se a uma análise de conteúdo com categorias definidas a posteriori. O corpus deste estudo foi constituído pela transcrição das entrevistas efetuadas. No âmbito do estudo os resultados encontrados apontam para o seguinte conjunto de principais conclusões: O brincar está profundamente ligado à aprendizagem, principalmente nos primeiros anos, e é através dos brinquedos e das brincadeiras que a criança descobre o seu papel no mundo. O recreio constitui-se como um dos espaços da escola que mais atrai as crianças, porque proporciona momentos de lazer e convívio. Constitui, por isso, um local onde a socialização adquire particular relevância tanto pela interação entre pares como pela interação com os adultos. As brincadeiras permitem diagnosticar, avaliar e elaborar estratégias para o desenvolvimento de uma aprendizagem significativa, prazerosa e cooperativa. This Final Report is divided into two distinct parts: the critical reflections of the practices in real life context and the investigation process. The first part presents a critical appraisal of practices in real life context, namely in pre-school education and primary education. The second part presents the investigation based on a qualitative study carried out in the context of primary education, which aims to understand playing and self-learning in the education of children. As such, we refer to well-known authors and existing legislation, as well as, in empirical terms, questionnaires answered by primary school education teachers. Playing is considered a way to provide pleasure, using imagery and creativity in various forms of games. The main goal of this study is to analyse playing as a pedagogical aid in the education of children as human beings in permanent “construction”. Playing is a fundamental activity in developing identity and autonomy in every human being. The way a child enters the playground reflects his or her way of thinking, acting and feeling. It’s in playing that children develop important attention, memory and imagination abilities. Since games are experiences that correlate with the school environment, theoretical bases were supported with bibliographical research, observations and interviews with teachers about the importance of the playground in primary school education. The teachers' opinions were analysed, and a content analysis was carried out with categories defined posteriarly. The corpus of this study was constituted by the transcription of the interviews carried out. The results point to the following set of main conclusions: Playing is deeply connected to learning, especially in early years, and it’s through playing that the child discovers his role in the world. In school, the playground is the place that most attracts the children, because it provides moments of leisure and companionship. It is, therefore, a place where socialisation acquires particular relevance both through interaction between peers and through interaction with adults. Playing allows to diagnose, evaluate and elaborate strategies for the development of meaningful, pleasant and cooperative learning.

The occurence of hail events represents a serious socioeconomic concern for agriculture in several regions ofthe Iberian Península, and theirfrequency and severity may increase in the future in the context of climate change. Given this potential risk, important apple-growing áreas usually subjected to hail storms, as Carrazeda de Ansiães in NE Portugal, will likely need to implement adaptation strategies to minimise potential damages. One technological option is to use over-tree netting to protect fruits and trees from extreme conditions. Moreover, anti-hail nets can also provide additional benefits by reducing plant stress, sunburn and wind speed. The study shows the effects oftwo (grey and black) anti-hail nets applied in mid-July 2016 on leaf gás exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence of apple tree [Malus domestica Borkh. cv. Fuji) at different times between July 22 and September 12. The grey (GAH) and black (BAH) anti-hails nets reduced mean incident photosynthetically active radiation during the leaf gás exchange measurements periods by 12 and 23%, respectively. Although it reduced the incident solar radiation, the BAH net contributed to the improvement of net photosynthetic rate (A) during the summer season, namely during the afternoon period, reducing the degree of photosynthesis depression from the morning to the afternoon. Meanwhile, the plants under the GAH presented higher A than open sky (OS) plants in September, reaching similar values to BAH plants. A closely association was observed between photosynthesis and stomatal conductance, although non-stomatal limitations to photosynthesis, that include changes in photochemical reactions, also occur in OS plants, namely in September. Thus, the use of anti-hail nets on orchards seems to be a suitable solution for the protection of apple trees against hail ensuring lower limitations to photosynthetic activity. Olive crop is widely distributed in the Mediterranean region and has a distinct socioeconomic importance in Portugal, namely in the Northeast region, where mostly rainfed olive orchards cover over 75000 ha and comprise approximately 36000 producers. The projected climate change characterized by severe summer conditions, with low rainfall, excessive heat load and high irradiance levels might affect this crop, notwithstanding the defense strategies that olive trees dispose against summer stress. In this work we aimed to investigate a new cropping practice with the introduction of a foliar application of melatonin (Nacetyl- 5-methoxytryptamine; 100 ~M) that have shown a central role in stress tolerance in different plant species. The study was conducted in an organic orchard of seven-years-old at Quinta do Prado, Lodoes, Vila Flor (41°20'13.3"N, 7"05'54.2"W), Portugal, and shows the impact on leaf gas exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence, relative water content, concentration of photosynthetic pigments and fruits total phenolic content at 6 different times between July and October 2016. Melatonin sprayed plants consistently showed higher stomatal conductance (18-73% during morning measurements and 11-136% at midday), net photosynthesis (25-81% morning and 32-130% at midday), electron transport rate (12-23% morning and 0.1-13% at midday) and photochemical yield of photosystem 11 (12-24% morning and 0-13% at midday). The better physiological status of the melatonin sprayed olive trees was reflected in a decrease in fruits total phenolic content (21%). The results suggest that the foliar application of melatonin boost the physiological activity of olive trees, giving new insights about the effect of this new cropping practice in olive orchards. Future studies to optimize the concentration and the number of applications of this metabolite must be pursued in order to get a better performance of olive tree under the harsh climatic conditions projected for the Mediterranean region. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

The predicted scenario of global warming anticipates severe summer conditions in the Mediterranean basin, with low water availability and excessive heat load. hlence, in arder to overcome the constrains that will affect olive groves and its socioeconomic value, new cropping practices focusing on water use efficiency must be investigated. In this work we aimed to investigate water management practices that can ensure the adequate compromise between yield and the quality of olive products. The study was conducted in Quinta do Prado, Lodões, Vila Flor (41°20'13. 3"N, 7°05'54. 2"W) and different irrigation strategies where investigated: full irrigation (Fl), equivalent to 100% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), as control treatment, sustained déficit irrigation (SDI; 30% of ETc) and regulated déficit irrigation (RDI; 80% of ETc in phases l and III offruit growth and 10% of ETc in pit hardening stage). The impact of the treatments on leaf gás exchange and oxidative stress indicators during the 2016 summer was evaluated. The results indicate that both déficit irrigation strategies (DIS) allowed to maintain similar values of photosynthetic and transpjration rate and stomatal conductance as in Fl treatment, even in the afternoon period, although occasionally lower values were recorded during summer, namely in RDI plants. Meanwhile, despite the great disparity in the amount of water used among treatments, there were no significant differences in the degree of oxidative stress, judging by the comparative values of photosynthetic pigments, soluble proteins, total thiols and electrolyte leakage. Thus, the DIS used in this study allow an adequate physiological activity of olive trees and give new insights about the effect of these strategies in olive orchards. Since the field trial is located in a commercial farm, production costs, returns, and also fruit quality parameters are being recorded, analysis of which might give an economic insight regarding the sustainability of the implemented techniques. O olival é uma das culturas amplamente distribuídas na região mediterrânica e com grande impacto em Portugal, nomeadamente na região de Trás-os-Montes onde apresenta elevada importância socioeconómica. Sendo a oliveira uma espécie muito exigente em boro e apresentado este micronutriente importantes funções nas plantas, entre as quais na estrutura da parede celular, divisão celular, integridade das membranas, transporte de açúcares e metabolismo dos hidratos de carbono, relações hídricas, floração, frutificaçâo e regulação hormonal, torna-se necessário aprofundar os conhecimentos sobre a resposta da oliveira à fertilizaçâo com boro. O presente estudo foi realizado num olival (cv. Cobrançosa) de sequeiro localizado em Bragança, tendo sido avaliados dois níveis de boro: 3 kg/ha e ausência de boro. Durante o stresse estivai foram avaliados parâmetros de trocas gasosas e fluorescência da clorofila o, conteúdo relativo em água, concentração de pigmentos fotossintéticos e indicadores de crescimento. Verificou-se que as plantas fertilizadas com boro apresentaram maior conteúdo relativo em água, condutância estomática, taxa de transporte de eletrões, quenching fotoquímico e concentração de ciorofilas, conduzindo a incrementos da taxa de fotossíntese líquida e do crescimento, expressa pelo diâmetro do tronco e pelo volume da copa. Estes resultados demonstram que a adição de boro melhora a fisiologia da oliveira em regime de sequeiro, fornecendo nova informação que poderá ajudar a aperfeiçoar as recomendações de fertilizaçâo para a cultura.
