Two-dimensional (2D) materials provide an ideal platform to explore novel superconducting behavior including Ising superconductivity, topological superconductivity and Majorana bound states in different 2D stoichiometric Ta-, Nb-, and Fe-based crystals. However, tuning the element content in 2D compounds for regulating their superconductivity has not been realized. In this work, we report the synthesis of high quality Fe1+yTe with tunable Fe content by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The quality and composition of Fe1+yTe are characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). The superconducting behavior of Fe1+yTe crystals with varying Fe contents is observed. The superconducting transition of selected Fe1.13Te sample is sharp ({\Delta}Tc = 1 K), while Fe1.43Te with a high-Fe content shows a relative broad superconducting transition ({\Delta}Tc = 2.6 K) at zero magnetic field. Significantly, the conspicuous vortex flow and a transition from a 3D vortex liquid state to a 2D vortex liquid state is observed in Fe1.43Te sample. Driven by the ever-increasing requirements of ultra-high spectral efficiency, ultra-low latency, and massive connectivity, the forefront of wireless research calls for the design of advanced next generation multiple access schemes to facilitate provisioning of these stringent demands. This inspires the embrace of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in future wireless communication networks. Nevertheless, the support of massive access via NOMA leads to additional security threats, due to the open nature of the air interface, the broadcast characteristic of radio propagation as well as intertwined relationship among paired NOMA users. To address this specific challenge, the superimposed transmission of NOMA can be explored as new opportunities for security aware design, for example, multiuser interference inherent in NOMA can be constructively engineered to benefit communication secrecy and privacy. In this paper, we consider intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) in a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-aided Integrated Sensing and Multicast-Unicast Communication (ISMUC) system, where the multicast signal is used for sensing and communications while the unicast signal is used only for communications. Our goal is to depict whether the IRS improves the performance of NOMA-ISMUC system or not under the imperfect/perfect successive interference cancellation (SIC) scenario. Towards this end, we formulate a non-convex problem to maximize the unicast rate while ensuring the minimum target illumination power and multicast rate. To settle this problem, we employ the Dinkelbach method to transform this original problem into an equivalent one, which is then solved via alternating optimization algorithm and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) with Sequential Rank-One Constraint Relaxation (SROCR). Based on this, an iterative algorithm is devised to obtain a near-optimal solution. Computer simulations verify the quick convergence of the devised iterative algorithm, and provide insightful results. Compared to NOMA-ISMUC without IRS, IRS-aided NOMA-ISMUC achieves a higher rate with perfect SIC but keeps the almost same rate in the case of imperfect SIC.

We investigate joint power allocation and decoding order selection (PA-DOS) aimed at enhancing the outage performance of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems. By considering the diverse target rates of users, new important properties of NOMA are revealed: When users' target rates satisfy certain conditions, the channel state information (CSI) is not required by PA-DOS to minimize the system outage probability, and different users' outage probabilities can be minimized simultaneously; When such conditions are not satisfied, the opposite situation occurs. Following these properties, two PA-DOS strategies are designed regarding distinct user priorities, which ensure the minimization of the system outage probability and the user outage probability of the high-priority user. Especially, these strategies do not require CSI or only require one-bit CSI feedback depending on users' target rates. Analytical and numerical results are provided to demonstrate that the proposed strategies significantly outperform the existing strategies in terms of both system and user outage performance. Furthermore, the results show that although under some target rates the minimum user outage probabilities cannot be simultaneously achieved, they can be closely approached at the same time in the high-signal-to-noise-ratio regime by the proposed strategies.

The secure transmission of the simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) aided communication system is investigated. Considering the coupled phase shifts of STAR-RISs and the fair secrecy requirement of users, a novel secure beamforming design is proposed for addressing the unique full-space mutual eavesdropping of STAR-RIS aided communication. In particular, a penalty based secrecy beamforming algorithm is developed to solve the resulting non-convex optimization problem, where the closed-form solutions of the coupled transmission/reflection coefficients are obtained in each iteration. Numerical results demonstrate that 1) the proposed scheme achieves higher secrecy capacity than conventional RIS; 2) 4-bit discrete phase shifters are sufficient for secrecy guarantee., Comment: 6 pages

This paper investigates the security enhancement of an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network, where a distributed IRS enabled NOMA transmission framework is proposed to serve users securely in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. Considering that eavesdropper's instantaneous channel state information (CSI) is challenging to acquire in practice, we utilize secrecy outage probability (SOP) as the security metric. A problem of maximizing the minimum secrecy rate among users, subject to the successive interference cancellation (SIC) decoding constraints and SOP constraints, by jointly optimizing transmit beamforming at the BS and phase shifts of IRSs, is formulated. For special case with a single-antenna BS, we derive the exact closed-form SOP expressions and propose a novel ring-penalty based successive convex approximation (SCA) algorithm to design power allocation and phase shifts jointly. While for the more general and challenging case with a multi-antenna BS, we adopt the Bernstein-type inequality to approximate the SOP constraints by a deterministic convex form. To proceed, an efficient alternating optimization (AO) algorithm is developed to solve the considered problem. Numerical results validate the advantages of the proposed algorithms over the baseline schemes. Particularly, two interesting phenomena on distributed IRS deployment are revealed: 1) the secrecy rate peak is achieved only when distributed IRSs share the reflecting elements equally; and 2) the distributed IRS deployment does not always outperform the centralized IRS deployment, due to the tradeoff between the number of IRSs and the reflecting elements equipped at each IRS., Comment: 30 pages

In this paper, we investigate covert communication in an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system, where a legitimate transmitter (Alice) applies NOMA for downlink and uplink transmissions with a covert user (Bob) and a public user (Roy) aided by an IRS. Specifically, we propose new IRS-assisted downlink and uplink NOMA schemes to hide the existence of Bob's covert transmission from a warden (Willie), which cost-effectively exploit the phase-shift uncertainty of the IRS and the non-orthogonal signal transmission of Roy as the cover medium without requiring additional uncertainty sources. Assuming the worst-case covert communication scenario where Willie can optimally adjust the detection threshold for his detector, we derive an analytical expression for the minimum average detection error probability of Willie achieved by each of the proposed schemes. To further enhance the covert communication performance, we propose to maximize the covert rates of Bob by jointly optimizing the transmit power and the IRS reflect beamforming, subject to given requirements on the covertness against Willie and the quality-of-service (QoS) at Roy. Simulation results demonstrate the covertness advantage of the proposed schemes and confirm the accuracy of the derived analytical results. Interestingly, it is found that covert communication is impossible without using IRS or NOMA for the considered setup while the proposed schemes can always guarantee positive covert rates.

This letter investigates secure transmission in an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network. Consider a practical eavesdropping scenario with imperfect channel state information of the eavesdropper, we propose a robust beamforming scheme using artificial noise to guarantee secure NOMA transmission with the IRS. A joint transmit beamforming and IRS phase shift optimization problem is formulated to minimize the transmit power. Since the problem is non-convex and challenging to resolve, we develop an effective alternative optimization (AO) algorithm to obtain stationary point solutions. Simulation results validate the security advantage of the robust beamforming scheme and the effectiveness of the AO algorithm.

In this letter, we propose to exploit an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) to secure multiuser two-way communications. Specifically, two end users simultaneously transmit their signals, where the signal of one user is exploited as information jamming to disrupt the reception of the other user's signal at an eavesdropper. A simple user scheduling scheme is developed to improve the secrecy rate. Analytical results in terms of a lower bound on the average secrecy rate and its scaling laws are derived to evaluate the secrecy performance and obtain valuable design insights. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is an efficient approach that can improve spectrum utilization and support massive connectivity for next-generation wireless networks. However, over a wireless channel, the superimposed NOMA signals are highly susceptible to eavesdropping, potentially leading to severe leakage of confidential information. In this article, we unleash the potential of network interference and exploit it constructively to enhance physical-layer security in NOMA networks. Particularly, three different types of network interference, including artificial noise, specifically-designed jamming signals, and inter-user interference, are well engineered to intentionally reduce information leakage while mitigating the effect on signal reception quality of legitimate users, thereby significantly enhancing the transmission security of NOMA. Furthermore, we propose interference engineering strategies for more advanced full-duplex NOMA, intelligent reflecting surface NOMA, cognitive radio NOMA, and multi-cell NOMA networks, and discuss several open research problems and challenges, which could inspire innovative interference engineering designs for secure NOMA communications., Comment: Accepted by IEEE Network as an open call article
