3. Subharmonic Solutions In Reversible Non-Autonomous Differential Equations

Abstract

We study the existence of subharmonic solutions in the system $\ddot {u}(t)=f(t,u(t))$, where $u(t)\in\mathbb{R}^{k}$ and $f$ is an even and $p$-periodic function in time. Under some additional symmetry conditions on the function $f$, the problem of finding $mp$-periodic solutions can be reformulated in a functional space as a $\Gamma\times\mathbb{Z}_{2}\times D_{m}% $-equivariant equation, where the group $\Gamma\times\mathbb{Z}_{2}$ acts on the space $\mathbb{R}^{k}$ and $D_{m}$ acts on $u(t)$ by time-shifts and reflection. We apply Brouwer equivariant degree to prove the existence of an infinite number of subharmonic solutions for the function $f$ that satisfies additional hypothesis on linear behavior near zero and the Nagumo condition at infinity. We also discuss the bifurcation of subharmonic solutions when the system depends on an extra parameter.

9. Solutions of Fixed Period in the Nonlinear Wave Equation on Networks

Abstract

The wave equation on network is defined by $\partial_{tt}u=\Delta_{G}u+g(u)$, where $u\in\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and the graph Laplacian $\Delta_{G}$ is an operator on functions on $n$ vertices. We suppose that $g:\mathbb{R}^{n}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{n}$ is an odd continuous function that satisfies $g(0)=g^{\prime }(0)=0$ and the Nagumo condition. Assuming that the graph is invariant by a subgroup of permutations $\Gamma$, using a $\Gamma$-equivariant topological invariant we prove the existence of multiple non-constant $p$-periodic solutions characterized by their symmetries.

Abstract

The existence of periodic solutions in $\Gamma$-symmetric Newtonian systems $\ddot{x}=-\nabla f(x)$ can be effectively studied by means of the $(\Gamma\times O(2))$-equivariant gradient degree with values in the Euler ring $U(\Gamma\times O(2))$. In this paper, we show that in the case of $\Gamma$ being a finite group, the Euler ring $U(\Gamma\times O(2))$ and the related basic degrees are effectively computable using Euler ring homomorphisms, the Burnside ring $A(\Gamma\times O(2))$ and the reduced $(\Gamma\times O(2))$-degree with no free parameters. We present several examples of Newtonian systems with various symmetries, for which we show existence of multiple periodic solutions. 36. Symptomatic Venous Thromboembolism Is a Disease Related to Infection and Immune Dysfunction

Abstract

The characteristics of human genomics and cellular immune function between clinically symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) and controls were systematically compared to explore the immunologic pathogenesis of VTE. Microarray assay showed the mRNA expressions of genes related to non-specific cellarer immune and cytokines were significantly down-regulated. Abnormal expressions of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, NK marker CD16+56+, CD19 and aberrant CD4+/CD8+ ratio were detected in 54 among 56 patients. In PE patients, microarray assay revealed the imbalance in the expressions of genes related to the immune system. The expressions of genes related to non-specific immune cells and cytokines were markedly up-regulated and those associated with cellular immune were dramatically down-regulated. In VTE patients, cytological examination indicated the functions of NK cells were significantly compromised, and the antigen recognition and killing function of T cells markedly decreased. The consistence between genomic and cytological examination suggests the symptomatic VTE is closely associated with the infection and immune dysfunction.

Abstract

Ischemic stroke, which occurs following blockage of the blood supply to the brain, is a leading cause of death worldwide. Its main cause is atherosclerosis, a disease of the arteries characterized by the deposition of plaques of fatty material on the inner artery walls. Multiple proteins involved in the inflammation response have been identified as diagnosing biomarkers of ischemic stroke. One of these is lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), an enzyme that can hydrolyze circulating oxidized phospholipids, generating proinflammatory lysophosphatidylcholine and promoting the development of atherosclerosis. In the last two decades, a number of studies have revealed that both the concentration and the activity of Lp-PLA2 are independent biomarkers of ischemic stroke. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved two tests to determine Lp-PLA2 mass and activity for predicting stroke. In this review, we summarize the biological properties of Lp-PLA2, the detection sensitivity and limitations of Lp-PLA2 measurement, the clinical significance and association of Lp-PLA2 in ischemic stroke, and the prospects of therapeutic inhibition of Lp-PLA2 as an intervention and treatment. Abstract

Introduction: Periductal mastitis (PDM) is a complex benign breast disease with a prolonged course and a high risk of recurrence after treatment. There are many available treatments for PDM, but none is widely accepted. This study aims to evaluate the various treatment failure rates (TFR) of different invasive treatment measures by looking at recurrence and persistence after treatment. In this way, it sets out to inform better clinical decisions in the treatment of PDM. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for eligible studies about different treatment regimens provided to PDM patients that had been published before October 1, 2019. We included original studies written in English that reported the recurrence and/or persistence rates of each therapy. Outcomes were presented as pooled TFR and 95% CI for the TFR. Results: We included 27 eligible studies involving 1,066 patients in this study. We summarized 4 groups and 10 subgroups of PDM treatments, according to the published studies. Patients treated minimally invasively (group 1) were subdivided into 3 subgroups and pooled TFR were calculated as follows: incision and drainage (n = 73; TFR = 75.6%; 95% CI 27.3–100%), incision alone (n = 74; TFR = 20.1%; 95% CI 0–59.9%), and breast duct irrigation (n = 123; TFR = 19.4%; 95% CI 0–65.0%). Patients treated with a minor excision (excision of the infected tissue and related duct; group 2) were divided into 4 subgroups and pooled TFR were calculated as follows: wound packing alone (n = 127; TFR = 2.1%; 95% CI 0–5.2%), primary closure alone (n = 66; TFR = 37.1%; 95% CI 9.5–64.8%), primary closure under antibiotic treatment cover (n = 55; TFR = 4.8%; 95% CI 0–11.4%) , and additional nipple part removal (n = 232; TFR = 9.6%; 95% CI 5.8–13.4%). Patients treated with a major excision (excision of the infected tissue and the major duct; group 3) included the following 2 subgroups: patients treated with a circumareolar incision (n = 142; TFR = 7.5%; 95% CI 0.4–14.7%) and patients treated with a radial incision of the breast (n = 78; TFR = 0.6%; 95% CI 0–3.6%). Group 4 contained patients receiving different major plastic surgeries. The pooled TFR of this group (n = 86) was 3.4% (95% CI 0–7.5%). Conclusion: Breast duct irrigation, which is the most minimally invasive of all of the treatment options, seemed to yield good outcomes and may be the first-line treatment for PDM patients. Minor excision methods, except for primary closure alone, might be enough for most PDM patients. Major excision, especially with radial incision, was a highly effective salvage therapy. The major plastic surgery technique was also acceptable as an alternative treatment for patients with large lesions and concerns about breast appearance. Incision and drainage and minor excision with primary closure alone should be avoided for PDM patients.
