OB associations, birthplaces of the most luminous stars, are key objects for understanding the formation of high-mass stars and their effects on their environments. The aim of this work is to explore the structure and kinematics of the Cepheus OB2 association and characterize the history of star formation in the region – in particular, the role of the Cepheus Bubble, surrounding Cepheus OB2. Based on Gaia DR3 data, we study the spatial and age distribution and kinematics of young stars in the region. We select candidate pre-main-sequence stars in the MG versus GBP−GRP colour–magnitude diagram, and using a clustering algorithm, we identify 13 stellar groups belonging to Cep OB2. Four groups, consisting of 10–13 Myr old low- and intermediate-mass stars, are located in the interior of the bubble and are part of the oldest subsystem of the association Cep OB2a. Younger groups are found on the periphery. The tangential velocities suggest that some groups on the periphery were born in an expanding system of star-forming clouds, whereas others have been formed due to the collision of their parent cloud with the expanding bubble.

Gaia19fct is one of the Gaia-alerted eruptive young stars that has undergone several brightening events. We conducted monitoring observations using multi-filter optical and near-infrared photometry, as well as near-infrared spectroscopy, to understand the physical properties of Gaia19fct and investigate whether it fits into the historically defined two classes. We present the analyses of light curves, color variations, spectral lines, and CO modeling. The light curves show at least five brightening events since 2015, and the multi-filter color evolutions are mostly gray. The gray evolution indicates that bursts are triggered by mechanisms other than extinction. Our near-infrared spectra exhibit both absorption and emission lines and show time-variability throughout our observations. We found lower rotational velocity and lower temperature from the near-infrared atomic absorption lines than from the optical lines, suggesting that Gaia19fct has a Keplerian rotating disk. The CO overtone features show a superposition of absorption and emission components, which is unlike other young stellar objects. We modeled the CO lines, and the result suggests that the emission and absorption components are formed in different regions. We found that although Gaia19fct exhibits characteristics of both types of eruptive young stars, FU Orionis-type objects (FUors) and EX Lupi-type objects (EXors), it shows more similarity with EXors in general., 29 pages, 14 figures, 7 tables, Accepted for publication in ApJ

Recently developed Immunoglobulin-E (IgE) based molecular allergy diagnostics provide the ability of identifying allergenic components or ingredients at the molecular level (component-resolved-diagnosis, CRD). Compared to the classical IgE-based allergy diagnostics, molecular technology is providing more sensitive and specific IgE-sensitization patterns. Certain sensitization patterns are characteristic of large geographic regions. There are only few data available on the molecular IgE sensitization patterns in East-Central Europe. This study aims to present further data from this region.Data of 3993 stored, anonymized molecular ImmunoCap IgE measurements (CRD), performed in Hungary between January-December 2019 from sera of 1288 subjects (mean age: 27 years ±18 years, male/female ratio 0.56) were analyzed retrospectively, in order to get a local distributional pattern of the sensitizing (IgE0.35 KU/l) molecular allergens.The proportion of CRD positive cases was 24.3%. Amongst them, the most prevalent inhalative allergens were Amb a 1 (18%) Art v 1 (8%) in adults and Der p 2 (3%) and Der p 1 (3%) and Amb a 1 (4%) in subjects below 18 years of age. The same for food allergens were Gal d 2 (21%), Bos d 4 (17%), Bos d 5 (11%) in adults and Gal d 2 (38%), Gal d 1 (28%), Bos d 4 (21%), Bos d 5 (13%) and Bos d 8 (7%) in children. The ratio of mono-sensitivities among CRD-positive cases was 37.5%.Our results provide region-specific patterns of sensitization and molecular allergen spreading for Hungary. The relatively higher abundance of polysensitization's among allergic cases underlines the need for early diagnostic -and preventive measures in the future.

Young stars show variability on different time-scales from hours to decades, with a range of amplitudes. We studied two young stars, which triggered the Gaia Science Alerts system due to brightenings on a time-scale of a year. Gaia20bwa brightened by about half a magnitude, whereas Gaia20fgx brightened by about two and half magnitudes. We analyzed the Gaia light curves, additional photometry, and spectra taken with the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo and the Gran Telescopio Canarias. Several emission lines were detected toward Gaia20bwa, including hydrogen lines from H$\alpha$ to H$\delta$, Pa$\beta$, Br$\gamma$, and lines of Ca II, O I, and Na I. The H$\alpha$ and Br$\gamma$ lines were detected toward Gaia20fgx in emission in its bright state, with additional CO lines in absorption, and the Pa$\beta$ line with an inverse P Cygni profile during its fading. Based on the Br$\gamma$ lines the accretion rate was $(2.4-3.1)\times10^{-8}$ $M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$ for Gaia20bwa and $(4.5-6.6)\times10^{-8}$ $M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$ for Gaia20fgx during their bright state. The accretion rate of Gaia20fgx dropped by almost a factor of 10 on a time-scale of half a year. The accretion parameters of both stars were found to be similar to those of classical T Tauri stars, lower than those of young eruptive stars. However, the amplitude and time-scale of these brightenings place these stars to a region of the parameter space, which is rarely populated by young stars. This suggests a new class of young stars, which produce outbursts on a time-scale similar to young eruptive stars, but with smaller amplitudes., Comment: Accepted to MNRAS

We present follow-up photometric and spectroscopic observations, and subsequent analysis of Gaia20eae. This source triggered photometric alerts during 2020 after showing a $\sim$3 mag increase in its brightness. Its Gaia Alert light curve showed the shape of a typical eruptive young star. We carried out observations to confirm Gaia20eae as an eruptive young star and classify it. Its pre-outburst spectral energy distribution shows that Gaia20eae is a moderately embedded Class II object with $L_\mathrm{bol} = 7.22$ L$_\odot$. The color-color and color-magnitude diagrams indicate that the evolution in the light curve is mostly gray. Multiple epochs of the H$\alpha$ line profile suggest an evolution of the accretion rate and winds. The near-infrared spectra display several emission lines, a feature typical of EXor-type eruptive young stars. We estimated the mass accretion rate during the dimming phase to be $\dot{M} = 3-8 \times 10^{-7}$ M$_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$, higher than typical T Tauri stars of similar mass and comparable to other EXors. Since July 2014, the Gaia mission has been engaged in a high-spatial-resolution, time-resolved, precise, accurate astrometric, and photometric survey of the entire sky. Aims. We present the Gaia Science Alerts project, which has been in operation since 1 June 2016. We describe the system which has been developed to enable the discovery and publication of transient photometric events as seen by Gaia. Methods. We outline the data handling, timings, and performances, and we describe the transient detection algorithms and filtering procedures needed to manage the high false alarm rate. We identify two classes of events: (1) sources which are new to Gaia and (2) Gaia sources which have undergone a significant brightening or fading. Validation of the Gaia transit astrometry and photometry was performed, followed by testing of the source environment to minimise contamination from Solar System objects, bright stars, and fainter near-neighbours. Results. We show that the Gaia Science Alerts project suffers from very low contamination, that is there are very few false-positives. We find that the external completeness for supernovae, CE = 0.46, is dominated by the Gaia scanning law and the requirement of detections from both fields-of-view. Where we have two or more scans the internal completeness is CI = 0.79 at 3 arcsec or larger from the centres of galaxies, but it drops closer in, especially within 1 arcsec. Conclusions. The per-Transit photometry for Gaia transients is precise to 1% at G = 13, and 3% at G = 19. The per-Transit astrometry is accurate to 55 mas when compared to Gaia DR2. The Gaia Science Alerts project is one of the most homogeneous and productive transient surveys in operation, and it is the only survey which covers the whole sky at high spatial resolution (subarcsecond), including the Galactic plane and bulge. © S. V555 Ori is a T Tauri star, whose 1.5 mag brightening was published as a Gaia science alert in 2017. We carried out optical and near-infrared photometric, and optical spectroscopic observations to understand the light variations. The light curves show that V555 Ori was faint before 2017, entered a high state for about a year, and returned to the faint state by mid-2018. In addition to the long-term flux evolution, quasi-periodic brightness oscillations were also evident, with a period of about 5 days. At optical wavelengths both the long-term and short-term variations exhibited colourless changes, while in the near-infrared they were consistent with changing extinction. We explain the brightness variations as the consequence of changing extinction. The object has a low accretion rate whose variation in itself would not be enough to reproduce the optical flux changes. This behaviour makes V555 Ori similar to the pre-main sequence star AA Tau, where the light changes are interpreted as periodic eclipses of the star by a rotating inner disc warp. The brightness maximum of V555 Ori was a moderately obscured ($A_V$=2.3 mag) state, while the extinction in the low state was $A_V$=6.4 mag. We found that while the Gaia alert hinted at an accretion burst, V555 Ori is a standard dipper, similar to the prototype AA Tau. However, unlike in AA Tau, the periodic behaviour was also detectable in the faint phase, implying that the inner disc warp remained stable in both the high and low states of the system., Accepted to MNRAS

We present a new census of candidate pre-main-sequence stars in the Cepheus flare star-forming region, based on Gaia EDR3 parallaxes, proper motions, and colour-magnitude diagrams. We identified new candidate members of the previously known young stellar groups associated with NGC 7023, L1177, L1217/L1219, L1228, L1235, and L1251. We studied the 3D structure of the star-forming complex and the distribution of tangential velocities of the young stars. The young stellar groups are located between 330 and 368 pc from the Sun, divided into three kinematic subgroups, and have ages between 1 and 5 million yr. The results confirm the scenario of propagating star formation, suggested by previous studies. In addition to the bulk pre-main-sequence star population between 330 and 370 pc, there is a scattered and more evolved pre-main-sequence population around 150-180 pc. We found new candidate members of the nearby Cepheus Association, and identified a new moving group of 46, 15-20 million yr old pre-main-sequence stars located at a distance of 178 pc, around the A0-type star HD 190833. A few pre-main-sequence stars are located at 800-900 pc, indicative of star-forming regions associated with the Galactic local arm above the Galactic latitude of +10°., Funding: ESA PRODEX Contract nr. 4000129910

We present results of an infrared study of the molecular cloud Lynds 1340, forming three groups of low and intermediate-mass stars. Our goals are to identify and characterise the young stellar population of the cloud, study the relationships between the properties of the cloud and the emergent stellar groups, and integrate L1340 into the picture of the star-forming activity of our Galactic environment. We selected candidate young stellar objects from the Spitzer and WISE data bases using various published color criteria, and classified them based on the slope of the spectral energy distribution. We identified 170 Class II, 27 Flat SED, and Class 0/I sources. High angular resolution near-infrared observations of the RNO 7 cluster, embedded in L1340, revealed eight new young stars of near-infrared excess. The surface density distribution of young stellar objects shows three groups, associated with the three major molecular clumps of L1340, each consisting of less than 100 members, including both pre-main sequence stars and embedded protostars. New Herbig--Haro objects were identified in the Spitzer images. Our results demonstrate that L1340 is a prolific star-forming region of our Galactic environment in which several specific properties of the intermediate-mass mode of star formation can be studied in detail., Comment: 73 pages, 33 figures, 15 tables. We present results of optical spectroscopic and BVR_CI_C photometric observations of 77 pre-main sequence (PMS) stars in the Cepheus flare region. A total of 64 of these are newly confirmed PMS stars, originally selected from various published candidate lists. We estimate effective temperatures and luminosities for the PMS stars, and comparing the results with pre-main sequence evolutionary models we estimate stellar masses of 0.2-2.4M_sun and stellar ages of 0.1-15 Myr. Among the PMS stars, we identify 15 visual binaries with separations of 2-10 arcsec. From archival IRAS, 2MASS, and Spitzer data, we construct their spectral energy distributions and classify 5% of the stars as Class I, 10% as Flat SED, 60% as Class II, and 3% as Class III young stellar objects (YSOs). We identify 12 CTTS and 2 WTTS as members of NGC 7023, with mean age of 1.6 Myr. The 13 PMS stars associated with L1228 belong to three small aggregates: RNO 129, L1228A, and L1228S. The age distribution of the 17 PMS stars associated with L1251 suggests that star formation has propagated with the expansion of the Cepheus flare shell. We detect sparse aggregates of 6-7 Myr old PMS stars around the dark clouds L1177 and L1219, at a distance of 400 pc. Three T Tauri stars appear to be associated with the Herbig Ae star SV Cep at a distance of 600 pc. We studied the brightness and spectral evolution of the young eruptive star V1647 Ori during its recent outburst in the period 2004 February-2006 September. We performed a photometric follow-up in the bands V, RC, IC, J, H, and Ks, as well as visible and near-IR spectroscopy. The main results derived from combining our data with those published by other authors are as follows: the brightness of V1647 Ori stayed more than 4 mag above the preoutburst level until 2005 October, when it started a rapid fading. In the high state we found a periodic component in the optical light curves with a period of 56 days. The delay between variations of the star and variations in the brightness of clumps of nearby nebulosity corresponds to an angle of 61° ± 14° between the axis of the nebula and the line of sight. The overall appearance of the infrared and optical spectra did not change in the period 2004 March-2005 March, although a steady decrease of H I emission-line fluxes could be observed. In 2006 May, in the quiescent phase, the He I 1.083 μm line was observed in emission, contrary to its deep blueshifted absorption observed during the outburst. The J - H and H - Ks color maps of the infrared nebula reveal an envelope around the star whose largest extension is about 18'' (0.03 pc). The color distribution of the infrared nebula suggests reddening of the scattered light inside a thick circumstellar disk. Comparison of the Ks and Hα images of McNeil's Nebula, the conical nebulosity illuminated by V1647 Ori, shows that HH 22A, the Spitzer infrared source, and the bright clump C of the nebula may be unrelated objects. We show that the observed properties of V1647 Ori could be interpreted in the framework of the thermal instability models of Bell and coworkers. V1647 Ori might belong to a new class of young eruptive stars, defined by relatively short timescales, recurrent outbursts, a modest increase in bolometric luminosity and accretion rate, and an evolutionary state earlier than that of typical EXors.

FU Orionis-type stars form a small class of variable Young Stellar Objects, defined by an optical outburst of 5-6 mag followed by gradual fading on a timescale of decades. Since the phenomenon is connected to the circumstellar medium the infrared emission spectrum is also expected to change after the outburst. The fading phase after the outburst is well documented in the optical/near-infrared, but not at far-infrared wavelengths. We investigated the brightness evolution of 7 FU Orionis systems in the 1-200 \mu m wavelength range. We compiled spectral energy distributions (SEDS) using data from the Infared Space Observatory, 2MASS and MSX (these observations were performed around 1995-1998). These SEDs were compared with earlier ones based on IRAS photometry and ground-based observations carried out around 1983. During this period of 15 years some objects remained unchanged, while others became fainter, but only in the near- and mid-infrared part of the spectrum. Since the wavelength dependence of the fading provides crucial information on the physics of the phenomenon, we studied in detail the case of V1057 Cyg., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to be published in Baltic Astronomy

We report on the discovery of three candidate eruptive young stars, found during our comprehensive multi-wavelength study of the young stellar population of the dark cloud L1340. These stars are as follows. (1) IRAS 02224+7227 (2MASS 02270555+7241167, HH 487 S) exhibited FUor-like spectrum in our low-resolution optical spectra. The available photometric data restrict its luminosity to 23 L_sun < L_bol < 59 L_sun. (2) 2MASS 02263797+7304575, identified as a classical T Tauri star during our H alpha survey, exhibited an EXor type brightening in 2005 November, at the time of the SDSS observations of the region. (3) 2MASS 02325605+7246055, a low-mass embedded young star, associated with a fan-shaped infrared nebula, underwent an outburst between the DSS1 and DSS2 surveys, leading to the appearance of a faint optical nebula. Our [SII] and H alpha images, as well as the Spitzer IRAC 4.5 micron images revealed Herbig-Haro objects associated with this star. We present the results of a multi-wavelength multi-epoch survey of five evolved protoplanetary disks in the IC 348 cluster that show significant infrared variability. Using 3-8micron and 24micron photometry along with 5-40micron spectroscopy from the Spitzer Space Telescope, as well as ground-based 0.8-5micron spectroscopy, optical spectroscopy and near-infrared photometry, covering timescales of days to years, we examine the variability in the disk, stellar and accretion flux. We find substantial variations (10-60%) at all infrared wavelengths on timescales of weeks to months for all of these young stellar objects. This behavior is not unique when compared to other cluster members and is consistent with changes in the structure of the inner disk, most likely scale height fluctuations on a dynamical timescale. Previous observations, along with our near-infrared photometry, indicate that the stellar fluxes are relatively constant; stellar variability does not appear to drive the large changes in the infrared fluxes. Based on our near-infrared spectroscopy of the Pa-beta and Br-gamma lines we find that the accretion rates are variable in most of the evolved disks but the overall rates are probably too small to cause the infrared variability. Optical and near-infrared variability is a well-known property of young stellar objects. However, a growing number of recent studies claim that a considerable fraction of them also exhibit mid-infrared flux changes. With the aim of studying and interpreting variability on a decadal timescale, here we present a mid-infrared spectral atlas containing observations of 68 low- and intermediate mass young stellar objects. The atlas consists of 2.5-11.6 um low-resolution spectra obtained with the ISOPHOT-S instrument on-board the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) between 1996 and 1998, as well as 5.2-14.5 um low-resolution spectra obtained with the IRS instrument on-board the Spitzer Space Telescope between 2004 and 2007. The observations were retrieved from the ISO and Spitzer archives and were post-processed interactively by our own routines. For those 47 objects where multi-epoch spectra were available, we analyze mid-infrared spectral variability on annual and/or decadal timescales. We identify 37 variable candidate sources. Many stars show wavelength-independent flux changes, possibly due to variable accretion rate. In several systems, all exhibiting 10 um silicate emission, the variability of the 6-8 um continuum and the silicate feature exhibit different amplitudes. A possible explanation is variable shadowing of the silicate emitting region by an inner disk structure of changing height or extra silicate emission from dust clouds in the disk atmosphere. Our results suggest that mid-infrared variability, in particular the wavelength-dependent changes, are more ubiquitous than was known before. Spectral observations of 53 Hα-emission objects of the HII-region IC 1396 were carried out with moderate resolution using the 2.6m telescope of the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory. Factor analysis of this observational material indicates that there are two dominant factors. Factor 1 (Fig. 1), which is the more significant factor, resembles the spectrum of a star of spectral type F5 with a strong Hβ line in absorption. Factor 2 (Fig. 2), in contrast, appears as a later-type spectrum with Hα and Hβ in emission. The result obtained can be explained by the transient nature of the Hα-emission.

We describe extensive synoptic multi-wavelength observations of the transition disk LRLL 31 in the young cluster IC 348. We combined four epochs of IRS spectra, nine epochs of MIPS photometry, seven epochs of cold-mission IRAC photometry and 36 epochs of warm mission IRAC photometry along with multi-epoch near-infrared spectra, optical spectra and polarimetry to explore the nature of the rapid variability of this object. We find that the inner disk, as traced by the 2-5micron excess stays at the dust sublimation radius while the strength of the excess changes by a factor of 8 on weekly timescales, and the 3.6 and 4.5micron photometry shows a drop of 0.35 magnitudes in one week followed by a slow 0.5 magnitude increase over the next three weeks. The accretion rate, as measured by PaBeta and BrGamma emission lines, varies by a factor of five with evidence for a correlation between the accretion rate and the infrared excess. While the gas and dust in the inner disk are fluctuating the central star stays relatively static. Our observations allow us to put constraints on the physical mechanism responsible for the variability. The variabile accretion, and wind, are unlikely to be causes of the variability, but both are effects of the same physical process that disturbs the disk. The lack of periodicity in our infrared monitoring indicates that it is unlikely that there is a companion within ~0.4 AU that is perturbing the disk. Context. In August 2010, the sudden optical brightening of two young stellar objects, located in the North America/Pelican Nebula Complex, was announced. Early observations indicated that these objects may belong to the FUor or EXor class of young eruptive stars. The eruptions of FUors and EXors are often explained by enhanced accretion of material from the circumstellar disk to the protostar. Aims. In order to determine the true nature of these two objects, we started an optical and near-infrared monitoring program, and complemented our data with archival observations and data from the literature. Methods. We plot and analyze pre-outburst and outburst spectral energy distributions (SEDs), multi-filter light curves, and color-color diagrams. Results. HBC 722 brightened monotonically in about two months, and the SED obtained during maximum brightness indicates the appearance of a hot, single-temperature blackbody. The current fading rate implies that the star will return to quiescence in about a year, questioning its classification as a bone fide FUor. The outburst of VSX J205126.1+440523 happened more gradually, but reached an unprecedentedly high amplitude. At 2.5 months after the peak, its light curves show a deep minimum, when the object was close to its pre-outburst optical brightness. Further monitoring indicates that it is still far from being quiescent. Conclusions. The shape of the light curves, the bolometric luminosities and accretion rates suggest that these objects do not fit into the classic FUor group. Although HBC 722 exhibit all spectral characteristics of a bona fide FUor, its luminosity and accretion rate is too low, and its timescale is too fast compared to classical FUors. A survey for emission line stars was carried out in 1980 with the Schmidt telescope of Konkoly Observatory in the region of IC 1396 (Kun, 1986a, hereafter referred to as Paper I). This work was aimed at a preliminary mapping of the probable medium mass members of the association Cepheus OB 2. The stars of the region have been followed since then with the same telescope in order to obtain a more complete view on the stellar content of this giant star-forming region. The common variability of the Hα emission strength makes the sense of repeating such surveys. The new survey resulted in the discovery of 65 further emission stars. Equatorial coordinates and finding charts are given for them.

We present optical, IR and millimeter observations of the solar-type star 13-277, also known as GM Cep, in the 4 Myr-old cluster Tr 37. GM Cep experiences rapid magnitude variations of more than 2 mag at optical wavelengths. We explore the causes of the variability, which seem to be dominated by strong increases in the accretion, being similar to EX-or episodes. The star shows high, variable accretion rates (up to ~10$^{-6}$ Msun/yr), signs of powerful winds, and it is a very fast rotator (Vsini~43 km/s). Its strong mid-IR excesses reveal a very flared disk and/or a remnant envelope, most likely out of hydrostatic equilibrium. The 1.3 millimeter fluxes suggest a relatively massive disk (Mdisk~0.1 Msun). Nevertheless, the millimeter mass is not enough to sustain increased accretion episodes over large timescales, unless the mass is underestimated due to significant grain growth. We investigate the brightness evolution of 7 FU Orionis systems in the 1-100 micrometer wavelength range using data from the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The ISO measurements were supplemented with 2MASS and MSX observations performed in the same years as the ISO mission (1995-98). The spectral energy distributions (SEDs) based on these data points were compared with earlier ones derived from the IRAS photometry as well as from ground-based observations carried out around the epoch 1983. In 3 cases (Z CMa, Parsamian 21, V1331 Cyg) no difference between the two epochs was seen within the measurement uncertainties. V1057 Cyg, V1515 Cyg and V1735 Cyg have become fainter at near-infrared wavelengths while V346 Nor has become slightly brighter. V1057 Cyg exhibits a similar flux change also in the mid-infrared. At lambda >= 60 micrometer most of the sources remained constant; only V346 Nor seems to fade. Our data on the long-term evolution of V1057 Cyg agree with the model predictions of Kenyon & Hartmann (1991) and Turner et al. (1997) at near- and mid-infrared wavelengths, but disagree at lambda > 25 micrometer. We compiled and investigated the infrared/sub-mm/mm SED of the new outburst star IRAS 05436-0007 in quiescent phase. The star is a flat-spectrum source, with an estimated total luminosity of L_bol ~ 5.6 L_sun, typical of low-mass T Tauri stars. The derived circumstellar mass of 0.5 M_sun is rather high among low-mass YSOs. The observed SED differs from the SEDs of typical T Tauri stars and of 4 well-known EXors, and resembles more the SEDs of FU Orionis objects indicating the presence of a circumstellar envelope. IRAS 05436-0007 seems to be a Class II source with an age of approximately 4x10^5 yr. In this evolutionary stage an accretion disk is already fully developed, though a circumstellar envelope may also be present. We studied the ISM distribution in and around the star forming cloud L1251 with optical star counts. A careful calculation with a maximum likelihood based statistical approach resulted in B,V,R,I extinction distributions from the star count maps. A distance of 330+/-30 pc was derived. The extinction maps revealed an elongated dense cloud with a bow shock at its eastern side. We estimated a Mach number of M~2 for the bow shock. A variation of the apparent dust properties is detected, i.e. the Rv=Av/E{B-V} total to selective extinction ratio varies from 3 to 5.5, peaking at the densest part of L1251. The spatial structure of the head of L1251 is well modelled with a Schuster-sphere (i.e. n=5 polytropic sphere). The observed radial distribution of mass fits the model with high accuracy out to 2.5pc distance from the assumed center. Unexpectedly, the distribution of NH3 1.3 cm line widths is also well matched by the Schuster solution even in the tail of the cloud. Since the elongated head-tail structure of L1251 is far from the spherical symmetry the good fit of the linewidths in the tail makes it reasonable to assume that the present cloud structure has been formed by isothermal contraction., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, accepted in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Lynds 1340, a molecular cloud forming intermediate-mass stars, has been mapped in the NH_3(1,1) and (2,2) transitions with the Effelsberg 100m telescope. We observed the whole area of the cloud where C18O emission was detected earlier, at a 40 arcsec grid, with additional positions towards the C18O peaks and optically invisible IRAS point sources. Our observations covered an area of 170 arcmin^2, corresponding to about 5.15 pc^2 at a distance of 600 pc, and revealed 10 ammonia cores. The cores, occupying some 7% of the mapped area, probably represent the highest density regions of L1340. Their total mass is 80 solar mass, about 6% of the mass traced by C18O. Six cores are associated with optically invisible IRAS point sources. Their average nonthermal line width is 0.78 kms^{-1}, while the same quantity for the four starless cores is 0.28 kms^{-1}. We suggest that the narrow-line cores are destined to form low-mass stars, whereas small groups of intermediate-mass stars are being formed in the turbulent cores. The features traced by NH_3, 13CO, C18O and HI obey the line width-size relation log Delta v_{NT} = 0.41(0.06)log R_{1/2}+ 0.12(0.06). Comparison of sizes, densities and nonthermal line widths of ammonia cores with those of C18O and 13CO structures supports the scenario in which core formation has been induced by turbulent fragmentation. The typical physical properties of the ammonia cores of L1340, R_{1/2} =0.08 pc, T_{kin}=13.8 K, Delta v_{total}=0.64 kms^{-1}, and M =9 solar mass are close to those of the high-mass star forming Perseus and Orion B clouds., 13 pages, 11 figures. Context: It is hypothesized that low-mass young stellar objects undergo eruptive phases during their early evolution. The outburst of V1647 Ori between 2003 and 2006 offered a rare opportunity to investigate such an accretion event. Aims: By means of our interferometry observing campaign during this outburst, supplemented by other observations, we investigate the temporal evolution of the inner circumstellar structure of V1647 Ori We also study the role of the changing extinction in the brightening of the object and separate it from the accretional brightening. Methods: We observed V1647 Ori with MIDI/VLTI at two epochs in this outburst. First, during the slowly fading plateau phase (2005 March) and second, just before the rapid fading of the object (2005 September), which ended the outburst. We used the radiative transfer code MC3D to fit the interferometry data and the spectral energy distributions from five different epochs at different stages of the outburst. The comparison of these models allowed us to trace structural changes in the system on AU-scales. We also considered qualitative alternatives for the interpretation of our data. Results: We found that the disk and the envelope are similar to those of non-eruptive young stars and that the accretion rate varied during the outburst. We also found evidence for the increase of the inner radii of the circumstellar disk and envelope at the beginning of the outburst. Furthermore, the change of the interferometric visibilities indicates structural changes in the circumstellar material. We test a few scenarios to interpret these data. We also speculate that the changes are caused by the fading of the central source, which is not immediately followed by the fading of the outer regions. However, if the delay in the fading of the disk is responsible for the changes seen in the MIDI data, the effect should be confirmed by dynamical modeling., 13 pages, 5 figures, accepted by A&A

We present preliminary results ol the optical photometric and spectroscopic monitoring ol the young eruptive variable star PV Cephei, performed during its recent conspicuous lading in 2008-2009, and try to find the reasons of the observed variations.

155 Hα emission stars not catalogued earlier have been detected with the 60/90/180 cm Schmidt telescope of Konkoly Observatory in a field of 19.5 square degrees centred on theHii region IC 1396.UBVR photohraphic magnitudes were obtained for most of them. Equatorial coordinates for the epoch 1950.0 as well as identification charts are given. Space distribution of the emission stars and their connection with the association Cepheus OB 2 are briefly discussed.

A ring-shaped infrared emission region is recognizable on the IRAS Sky Flux images of a Cepheus region which happens to include the association Cepheus OB 2. The ring is easily visible both at 60 and 100 microns. The approximate galactic coordinates of its centre arel=102°.8 andb=+6°.7, with an outer diameter of 7 deg. IC 1396 and several otherHii regions, such as S 129, S 133, S 134, and S 140 are apparently parts of the ring. If it is assumed that these Hii regions are physically connected to the ring its distance must be about 900 pc and its diameter 120 pc. The existence of several arc-shaped Hα filaments along the ring, the proper motion of the nearby runaway star λ Cephei, and the possible presence of the [Fex] λ6375 interstellar line in the spectra of two stars of Cep OB 2 combine to suggest that the infrared ring might well be a result of a supernova explosion which occurred in this region about 2–3 million years ago.
