We present ambient and high-pressure electrical transport and structural properties of recently discovered magnetic Weyl semimetal PrAlGe. Electrical resistivity at ambient pressure shows an anomaly at $T_C$ = 15.1 K related to the ferromagnetic transition. Anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is observed below $T_C$. We observe a 1.4 K/GPa increase of $T_C$ with pressure, resulting in $T_C$ $\approx$ 47 K at 23.0 GPa. Strong competition between Lorentz force and spin-scattering mechanisms suppressed by magnetic field is deduced from the magnetoresistance measurements under pressure. As in the ambient pressure case, the AHE is found to be present below $T_C$ up to the highest applied pressure. We observe a clear anomaly in the pressure dependence of $T_C$, magnetoresistance and Hall effect at 12.5 GPa suggesting the occurrence of a pressure-induced electronic transition at this pressure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiment under pressure revealed the lattice structure to be stable up to $\sim$19.6 GPa with the absence of any symmetry changing structural phase transition from the initial $I4_1md$ structure. Careful analysis of the pressure dependent XRD data reveal an isostructural transition near 11 GPa. Despite belonging to a well-studied family of transition metal trihalides, VI_3 has received significant attention only recently. As a hard ferromagnetic van der Waals compound with a large coercivity, it attracted much attention because of its potential use in atomically thin spintronic and optoelectronic devices. However, practical exploration of VI_3 is challenging due to its instability under ambient conditions. Here, we present a comprehensive set of optical, x-ray diffraction, magnetization, and ellipsometric measurements of VI3 and demonstrate that, similarly to the related van der Waals ferromagnet CrI_3, the degradation process is accelerated by the presence of moisture. The VI_3 surface was covered by selected media commonly used in physical measurements to test its stability and lower the degradation rate three times or higher, providing practical information for experimentalists interested. The decomposition study at ambient conditions shows that the VI_3 single crystal can be used for most of the bulk, magnetization, and optical measurements without any noticeable change of physical properties, as the significant degradation appears first after ~ 2 hours of exposition as illustrated, e.g., by the evolution of the ferromagnetic T_1 and T_2 transitions. A comprehensive study of magnetocrystalline anisotropy of a layered van-der-Waals ferromagnet VI3 was performed. We measured angular dependences of the torque and magnetization with respect to the direction of the applied magnetic field within the "ac" plane perpendicular to and within the basal ab plane, respectively. A two-fold butterfly-like signal was detected by magnetization in the perpendicular "ac" plane. This signal symmetry remains conserved throughout all magnetic regimes as well as through the known structural transition down to the lowest temperatures. The maximum of the magnetization signal and the resulting magnetization easy axis is significantly tilted from the principal c axis by ~40{\deg}. The close relation of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy to the crystal structure was documented. In contrast, a two-fold-like angular signal was detected in the paramagnetic region within the ab plane in the monoclinic phase, which transforms into a six-fold-like signal below the Curie temperature TC. With further cooling, another six-fold-like signal with an angular shift of ~30{\deg} grows approaching TFM. Below TFM, in the triclinic phase, the original six-fold-like signal vanishes, being replaced by a secondary six-fold-like signal with an angular shift of ~30{\deg}., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures

Evolution of magnetism in single crystals of the van der Waals compound VI3 in external pressure up to 7.3 GPa studied by measuring magnetization and ac magnetic susceptibility is reported. Four magnetic phase transitions, at T1 = 54.5 K, T2 = 53 K, TC = 49.5 K, and TFM = 26 K, respectively have been observed at ambient pressure. The first two have been attributed to the onset of ferromagnetism in specific crystal-surface layers. The bulk ferromagnetism is characterized by the magnetic ordering transition at Curie temperature TC and the transition between two different ferromagnetic phases TFM, accompanied by a structure transition from monoclinic to triclinic symmetry upon cooling. The pressure effects on magnetic parameters were studied with three independent techniques. TC was found to be almost unaffected by pressures up to 0.6 GPa whereas TFM increases rapidly with increasing pressure and reaches TC at a triple point at ~ 0.85 GPa. At higher pressures, only one magnetic phase transition is observed moving to higher temperatures with increasing pressure to reach 99 K at 7.3 GPa. In contrast, the low-temperature bulk magnetization is dramatically reduced by applying pressure (by more than 50% at 2.5 GPa) suggesting a possible pressure-induced reduction of vanadium magnetic moment. A new U-based compound of the U2Rh2Pb, a new compound of the U2T2X series was prepared in a single-crystal form. Its structure was determined as belonging to the tetragonal Mo2FeB2 structure type with the shortest U-U spacing along the c. U2Rh2Pb undergoes an antiferromagnetic transition at TN of 20 K and exhibits an enhanced Sommerfeld coefficient 150 mJ/molK2. In contrast to the two rhodium analogues U2Rh2In and U2Rh2Sn, the easy-magnetization direction is the c with rather low value of the critical field 4.3 T of the metamagnetic transition of a spin-flip type. The observed dependences of TN and Hc on temperature and magnetic field have been used for constructing a magnetic phase diagram. Thermal expansion, magnetostriction and magnetization measurements under magnetic field and hydrostatic pressure were performed on a $\mathrm{UAu_{2}Si_{2}}$ single crystal. They revealed a large anisotropy of magnetoelastic properties manifested by prominent length changes leading to a collapse of the unit-cell volume accompanied by breaking the fourfold symmetry (similar to that in $\mathrm{URu_{2}Si_{2}}$ in the hidden-order state) in the antiferromagnetic state as consequences of strong magnetoelastic coupling. The magnetostriction curves measured at higher temperatures confirm a bulk character of the 50 K weak ferromagnetic phase. The large positive pressure change of the ordering temperature predicted from Ehrenfest relation contradicts the more than an order of magnitude smaller pressure dependence observed by the magnetization and specific heat measured under hydrostatic pressure. A comprehensive magnetic phase diagram of $\mathrm{UAu_{2}Si_{2}}$ in magnetic field applied along the $c$ axis is presented. The ground-state antiferromagnetic phase is suppressed by a field-induced metamagnetic transition that changes its character from the second to the first order at the tricritical point.

Pressure effect on superconducting properties of two YB6 samples (Tc = 5.9 and 7.5 K) were investigated by measurements of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and X-ray diffraction in the pressure range up to 320 kbar. Magnetoresistivity measurements down to 60 mK and up to 47 kbar have shown a negative pressure effect on Tc as well as on the third critical field Hc3 with the slopes dlnTc/dp = -0.59%/kbar and dlnHc3/dp = -1.1%/kbar, respectively. The magnetic susceptibility measurements evidenced that the slope of dlnTc/dp gradually decreases with pressure reaching 3 times smaller value at 112 kbar. The lattice parameter measurements revealed the volume reduction of 14% at 320 kbar. The pressure-volume dependence is described by the Rose-Vinet equation of state. The obtained relative volume dependence dlnTc/dlnV analyzed by the McMillan formula for Tc indicates that the reduction of the superconducting transition temperature is mainly due to hardening of the Einstein-like phonon mode responsible for the superconducting coupling. We carried out AC magnetic susceptibility measurements and muon spin relaxation spectroscopy on the cubic double perovskite Ba2YMoO6, down to 50 mK. Below ~1 K the muon relaxation is typical of a magnetic insulator with a spin-liquid type ground state, i.e. without broken symmetries or frozen moments. However, the AC susceptibility revealed a dilute-spin-glass like transition below ~ 1 K. Antiferromagnetically coupled Mo5+ 4d1 electrons in triply degenerate t2g orbitals are in this material arranged in a geometrically frustrated fcc lattice. Bulk magnetic susceptibility data has previously been interpreted in terms of a freezing to a heterogeneous state with non-magnetic sites where 4d^1 electrons have paired in spin-singlets dimers, and residual unpaired Mo5+ 4d1 electrons. Based on the magnetic heat capacity data it has been suggested that this heterogeneity is the result of kinetic constraints intrinsic to the physics of the pure system (possibly due to topological overprotection), leading to a self-induced glass of valence bonds between neighbouring 4d1 electrons. The muSR relaxation unambiguously points to a static heterogeneous state with a static arrangement of unpaired electrons isolated by spin-singlet (valence bond) dimers between the majority of Mo5+ 4d electrons. The AC susceptibility data indicate that the residual magnetic moments freeze into a dilute-spin-glass-like state. This is in apparent contradiction with the muon-spin decoupling at 50 mK in fields up to 200 mT, which indicates that, remarkably, the time scale of the field fluctuations from the residual moments is ~ 5 ns. We report a detailed study of the polymorphic transitions in ternary stannide CeRuSn on high quality single crystals through a combination of X-ray diffraction experiments conducted at 300, 275 and 120 K, and measurements of the thermal expansion, magnetization, and resistivity, along main crystallographic axes. In addition, the transition was followed as a function of pressure up to 0.8 GPa. The present X-ray diffraction data show that the room temperature polymorph consists of the lattice doubled along the c axis with respect to the CeCoAl-type structure consistent with previous reports. Upon cooling, the compound undergoes two successive transitions, first to a quintuple (290 K) and than to a triple CeCoAl superstructure at 225 K. The transitions are accompanied by a tremendous volume change due to a strong shrinking of the lattice along the c axis, which is clearly observed in thermal expansion. We advance arguments that the volume collapse originates from an increasing number of crystallographically inequivalent Ce sites and the change of ratio between the short and long Ce-Ru bonds. The observed properties of the polymorphic transition in CeRuSn are reminiscent of the transition in elementary Cerium, suggesting that similar physics, i.e., a Kondo influenced transition and strong lattice vibrations might be the driving forces.
