Die 27. mitteleuropäische Zikadentagung fand vom 16.-18. Juli 2021 in Landau, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland, statt. Beprobt wurden mehrere für die Region typische Lebensräume: ein Binnendünengebiet, eine neu geschaffene Waldweide mit Quellmoor im Pfälzerwald, extensiv genutzte Streuobstbereiche mit Schafbeweidung sowie Rinderweiden entlang des Flusses Queich westlich von Landau. Insgesamt wurden 188 Zikaden-, 35 Wanzen- und 14 Blattfloharten gesammelt. Zu den seltenen und ungewöhnlichen Arten gehörten Sardius argus auf einer extensiv genutzten Streuobstwiese und Scottianella dalei im Quellmoor. Viele der nachgewiesenen Arten sind Bewohner artenreicher Grünlandbereiche und durch die Intensivierung der Landwirtschaft bedroht. Sie sind auf eine extensive Bewirtschaftung ihres Lebensraums durch Beweidung oder Mahd und einen geringen Nährstoffgehalt angewiesen., The 27th Central European Auchenorrhyncha meeting took place in Landau, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, on 16-18 July 2021. Several typical habitats for the region were sampled: an inland dune area, a newly-created wood pasture with a spring mire in the Palatinate Forest, two extensively used orchard areas, as well as riparian pastures along the river Queich. In total, 188 Auchenorrhyncha species, comprising 29 % of the German fauna, were collected. In addition, 35 Heteroptera species and 14 Psylloidea species were found. Rare and unusual hopper species for Germany include Sardius argus in an extensively used traditional orchard area and Scottianella dalei in a spring mire. Many of the species that were collected depend on species-rich grasslands, an extensive management and low nutrient levels. They are thus threatened by agricultural intensification and the abandonment of traditional management practices and subsequent shrub encroachment.

The Hemiptera with approximately 98 000 species is one of the largest insect orders. Most species feed by sucking sap from plant tissues and are thus often vectors for economically important phytopathogens. Well known within this group are the large cicadas (Cicadomorpha: Cicadoidea: Cicadidae) because they produce extremely loud airborne sounds. Less well known are their mostly tiny relatives, the leafhoppers, spittlebugs, treehoppers and planthoppers that communicate by silent vibrational signals. While the generation of these signals has been extensively investigated, the mechanisms of their perception are poorly understood. This study provides a complete description and three-dimensional reconstruction of a large and complex array of mechanoreceptors in the first abdominal segments of the Rhododendron leafhopper Graphocephala fennahi (Cicadomorpha: Membracoidea: Cicadellidae). Further, we identify homologous organs in the spittlebug Philaenus spumarius (Cicadomorpha: Cercopoidea: Aphrophoridae) and the planthopper Issus coleoptratus (Fulgoromorpha: Fulgoroidea: Issidae). Such large abdominal sensory arrays have not been found in any other insect orders studied so far. This indicates that these sense organs, together with the signal-producing tymbal organ, constitute a synapomorphy of the Tymbalia (Hemiptera excl. Sternorrhyncha). Our results contribute to the understanding of the evolution from substrate-borne to airborne communication in insects.

Die Situation der Insekten in der Schweiz ist besorgniserregend. Die Vielfalt und Grösse der Insektenbestände ist vor allem im Mittelland stark zurückgegangen – eine Tendenz, die mittlerweile auch im Jura und in den Alpen feststellbar ist. Von den aktuell 1153 im Rahmen der Roten Listen bewerteten Insektenarten sind fast 60 % gefährdet oder potenziell gefährdet. Sollen die teils dramatischen Entwicklungen gestoppt und die Insektenvielfalt in der Schweiz langfristig erhalten bleiben, wie auch seitens Politik gefordert, müssen die bestehenden Instrumente zur Erhaltung und Förderung gefährdeter Lebensräume und Arten angepasst und ergänzt werden. Dafür schlagen die Autorinnen und Autoren ein wissenschaftlich fundiertes 12-Punkte-Programm vor. Das vorliegende Faktenblatt zeigt die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse aus dem ersten umfassenden Zustandsbericht «Insektenvielfalt in der Schweiz», den das Forum Biodiversität der Akademie der Naturwissenschaften Schweiz im September 2021 publiziert hat., Widmer I, Mühlethaler R et al. La situation des insectes en Suisse est préoccupante. La diversité des insectes et leurs effectifs ont subi une forte régression, notamment sur le Plateau - une tendance que l’on observe désormais également dans le Jura et les Alpes. Sur les 1153 espèces d’insectes évaluées dans le cadre des listes rouges, près de 60 % sont menacées ou potentiellement menacées. Pour enrayer cette évolution parfois dramatique et maintenir à long terme la diversité des insectes en Suisse, comme le demande aussi la classe politique, il faut adapter et compléter les instruments existants de protection et promotion des espèces et des milieux menacés. A cet effet, les auteurs et les autrices du rapport proposent un programme en 12 points scientifiquement fondé. La situation des populations d’insectes en Suisse est préoccupante, relèvent des scientifiques dans le premier rapport détaillé sur le sujet, « Diversité des insectes en Suisse », publié mardi par le Forum Biodiversité de l’Académie suisse des sciences naturelles. Les expertes et les experts ont analysé les données des Listes rouges, des programmes de suivi et de nombreuses études. Constat : la diversité et la taille des populations d’insectes ont fortement diminué, avant tout sur le Plateau, mais plus récemment également dans le Jura et les Alpes. Erstmalig wird für das Land Berlin eine Rote Liste der Zikaden vorgelegt, außerdem eine aktualisierte Gesamtartenliste. Von insgesamt 337 Arten gelten demnach 39 Arten als verschollen, 25 als vom Aussterben bedroht (Kategorie 1), 5 als stark gefährdet (Kategorie 2) und 15 als gefährdet (Kategorie 3). 20 Arten gelten als gefährdet mit unbekannten Ausmaß (Kategorie G), 14 Arten als extrem selten (Kategorie R), 12 Arten wurden auf die Vorwarnliste gesetzt (Kategorie V) und für 14 Arten wurde der Befund „Daten defizitär“ gestellt (Kategorie D). Für drei Arten wurde eine besondere Verantwortlichkeit Berlins festgestellt, die Schmuckseggenzirpe (Cicadula ornata), die Braune Kragenzirpe (Anoplotettix fuscovenosus) und die Dünenzirpe (Pinumius areatus). Die beiden erstgenannten kommen deutschlandweit nur in Berlin vor, die letztere weist hier Schwerpunktvorkommen auf., We present, for the first time, a Red List of the planthoppers and leafhoppers of the federal state of Berlin, as well as an updated checklist. Altogether 337 species have been recorded so far, 39 of them are considered as regionally extinct (category 0), 25 as critically endangered (category 1), 5 as endangered (category 2), 15 as vulnerable (category 3), 20 as indeterminate (category G), 14 rare (category R), 12 near-threatened (category V). The data base is deficient (category D) for 14 further species. Berlin is assigned a particular responsibility for conservation of Cicadula ornata, Anoplotettix fuscovenosus and Pinumius areatus. The first two species are in Germany so far only known from Berlin. For the latter species most recent German records are from Berlin.

Eine kommentierte Liste aller für die Schweiz gemeldeten Zikadenarten wurde zusammengestellt. Es wurden nur publizierte Daten berücksichtigt; zusätzlich werden 10 Arten hier zum ersten Mal für die Schweiz gemeldet: Hyalesthes luteipes Fieber, Calligypona reyi (Fieber), Kelisia confusa Linnavuori, Xanthodelphax flaveola (Flor), Macropsis haupti Wagner, M. remanei Nickel, Erythria cisalpina Dworakowska, Euscelis distinguendus (Kirschbaum), Metalimnus steini (Fieber) und Proceps aci-cularis Mulsant & Rey. Die Artenliste der Schweiz zählt aktuell insgesamt 561 bestätigte Arten (davon wurden allerdings rund 40 nicht mehr in den letzten 50 Jahren nachgewiesen). Zusätzlich wurde eine Liste mit insgesamt 173 weiteren Arten erstellt, die geografisch und ökologisch zu erwarten sind. 17 Arten aus der Literatur wurden wegen Fehldetermination oder taxonomischer Probleme nicht in die Liste aufgenommen.

International audience; Apart from aphids and scales, 52 additional Sternorrhyncha hemipteran species alien to Europe have been identifi ed within Aleyrodidae (27 whitefl y species), Phylloxeroidea (9 adelgids, 2 phylloxerans) and Psylloidea (14 species of jumping plant-lice) in addition to 12 Auchenorrhyncha species (mostly Cicadellidae- 8 species). At present, the alien species represent 39% of the total whitefl y fauna and 36% of the total adelgid fauna occuring in Europe. Th e proportion is insignifi cant in the other groups. Th e arrival of alien phylloxerans and adelgids appeared to peak during the fi rst part of the 20th century. In contrast, the mean number of new records per year of alien aleyrodids, psylloids and Auchenorrhyncha increased regularly after the 1950s. For these three groups, an average of 0.5–0.6 new alien species has been recorded per year in Europe since 2000. Th e region of origin of the alien species largely diff ers between the diff erent groups. Alien aleyrodids and psylloids mainly originated from tropical regions whilst the adelgids and phylloxerans came equally from North America and Asia. A major part of the alien Auchenorrhyncha originated from North American. Most of these alien species are presently observed in man-made habitats, especially in parks and gardens but alien adelgids are mainly observed in forests because of their association with conifer trees used for aff orestation.

Oncopsis krios - a new species of Macropsinae leafhopper from Mt. Killini in Greece is described. The new species belongs to the O. alni-group and differs from O. alni, O. planiscuta, O. appendiculata and O. tristis by the combination of coloration and genital characters. An identification key for all European species of the alni-group is provided. O. krios is reported from Ulmus sp. which is a new host plant for Oncopsis. Hitherto all known European Oncopsis species are associated with Betulaceae. Opisana je Oncopsis krios - nova vrsta škržatka iz poddružine Macropsinae z gore Killini v Grčiji. Nova vrsta pripada sorodstvu O. alni in se razlikuje odvrst O. alni, O. planiscuta, O. appendiculata in O. tristis z vrsto znakov vobarvanosti in obliki spolnih organov. Podan je ključ za vse evropske vrste sorodstva O. alni. O. krios je bila najdena na brestu (Ulmus sp.), ki je nova hranilna rastlina za rod Oncopsis. Vse druge znane evropske vrste rodu Oncopsis živijo na rastlinah iz družine Betulaceae.

The Central European species of the taxonomically difficult Holarctic typhlocybine genus Kybos are revised with morphological, molecular and bioacoustic methods. Currently it is impossible to identify females and nymphs. In addition the otherwise diagnostic shape of the male genitalia is linked by intermediates in some morphologically similar nominal species. The second important diagnostic structure, the male sound apodemes, is not yet fully developped in teneral males, a fact which was not sufficiently taken into consideration by some authors. The present study evaluates the morphological variation of the male genitalia and sound apodemes. Females and nymphs are investigated for taxonomically relevant characters. For comparison molecular studies using sequences of the so called barcoding gene COI as well as 16S are performed and bioacoustic characters are investigated for some species. The morphological studies did not yield previously unknown characters particularly for the females and nymphs but suggested that the variation of the male genitalia has previously been overestimated. For this reason K. perplexus is synonymised with K. strigilifer (new synonymy). Similarly the small sound apodemes of K. volgensis are interpreted as not yet fully developped structures and the species is synonymised with K. virgator (new synonymy). The base of the female ovipositor is variable within Kybos and separates species groups but does not diagnose species. Nymphs vary in leg dimensions and colour forming the same species groups as the female genitalia but, again, do not diagnose species. In the molecular analyses neither COI nor 16S sequences could discriminated all the species defined by morphology. In particular K. butleri and K. rufescens were polyphyletic in both molecular analyses. These results clearly illustrate that the so called barcoding gene COI is not universally applicable for species definition. The few results from the bioacoustic studies indicate that this method may be helpful to solve some taxonomic problems of closely related sympatric species. Phylogenetic analyses are performed with morphological data and COI as well as 16S sequences. The three analyses strongly support the monophyly of Kybos. The consensus trees of the three analyses are poorly resolved and their topologies differ from each other. In the morphological tree the female genital characters make the most important contribution to tree structure whereas the male genitalia are of less importance, contrary to species diagnoses. It is interesting to note that the morphological tree comprises a monophyletic group of Betulaceae feeders not supported by the molecular trees.

For the first time, the leafhopper fauna of the Kanton Basel-Stadt was systematically investigated. For this purpose, samples were collected in all types of habitats which occur in Basel. Studies were conducted from April to October 2000 in 43 places. The specimens were sampled with sweep-nets or aspirators. In total, 3281 specimens were determined, belonging to 144 species in 7 families. 12 species are new to Switzerland, one is new to Germany. Prvič je bila sistematično raziskana favna škržatkov kantona Basel-mesto. V ta namen smo vzorčevali v vseh vrstah življenjskih prostorov, ki jih najdemo v Baslu. Raziskave so potekale od aprila do oktobra 2000 na 43 mestih. Primerke smo zbirali z mrežo ali sesalcem. Skupno smo določili 3281 primerkov, pripadajočih 144 vrstam 7 družin. 12 vrst je novih za Švico, ena je nova za Nemčijo.
