1. Magneto-Impedance Tomography of Composite CuBe/FeCoNi Wires

Abstract: The results of investigation of the distribution of electrical and magnetic properties over the cross-section are presented for Cu[Formula: see text]Be2/Fe[Formula: see text]Co6Ni[Formula: see text] composite wire of the “highly conductive core-magnetically soft coating” type, obtained by electrolytic deposition of the FeCoNi layer. Studies performed by the magneto-impedance tomography (MIT) made it possible to determine the specific electrical conductivity of the materials of the core and coating. It was established that the electrodeposited coating had a magnetic structure that was inhomogeneous over the thickness.

Abstract: The existence of a light dark force mediator has been tested with the KLOE detector at DAPHNE. This particle, called U, is searched for using the decay chain phi-->etaU, eta-->pi+pi-pi0, U-->e+e-. No evidence is found in 1.5 fb-1 of data. The resulting exclusion plot covers the mass range 5, Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Abstract: A sample of 5.3 × 10 7 φ mesons, produced at the Frascati φ-factory DAΦNE, has been used by the KLOE Collaboration to study the φ radiative decays. The decays φ → ηπ 0 γ and φ → π o π o γ have been exploited to study the scalar mesons a o (980) and f o (980). Furthermore a new determination of the η − η′ mixing angle has been obtained from the measurement of the ratio of the decay rates of / gf → η ′ γ to φ → ηγ .

Abstract: The KLOE experiment has been collecting data since April 1999 at the DAΦNE e+-e− collider at a center of mass energy equal to the o-meson mass. A total amount of 5 × 107 o decays have been analyzed. Results concerning the measurement of the semileptonic branching ratio of the KS, the measurement of the ratio BR(KS → π+π−)BR(KS → π0π0) and the study of the radiative decays of the o involving η, η′, ƒ0(980) and a0(980) are presented.

Abstract: The KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE e+e− collider and its physics program is presented. The most recent results obtained using the data collected during the year 2000 (about 20 pb−1) are presented, in particular the ratio of branching ratios BR(KS → π+π−)/BR(Ks → π0π0), the branching ratio for the Ke3 decay of the KS, the ratio BR(φ → η′γ)/BR(φ → ηγ) and the pseudoscalar mixing angle ϕP, and the branching ratios for the decays φ → f0γ and φ → a0γ.

Abstract: The KLOE experiment at DAΦNE has collected data for an integrated luminosity of ~ 1.3 fb-1 from e+e- collisions at center-of-mass energy around the ϕ-meson peak, W ~1.02 GeV . A selection of results obtained from a sample of 450 pb-1 of data acquired during year 2001 and 2002 is presented. Studying tagged KS and KL-mesons produced in the reaction e+e-→ϕ→KS KL we measured the branching ratio of the decay KS→πeν, the upper limit on the decay KS→π0π0π0, and the main KL decay branching ratios. Exploiting the initial state radiation in the reaction e+e-→π+π-γ, we extracted the hadronic cross-section as a function of the squared center-of-mass energy sπ of the π π system, in the range 0.35 < sπ < 0.95 GeV 2.

Abstract: We have searched with the KLOE detector for the P and CP violating decay eta --> pi(+)pi(-) in a sample of 1.55 x 10(7) eta's from the decay phi --> etagamma of phi-mesons produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at DAPhiNE. No signal is found. We obtain the upper limit BR(eta --> pi(+)pi(-)) < 1.3 x 10(-5) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We have measured the absolute branching ratio BR(K+/- --> pi(+/-)pi(0)pi(0)) with the KLOE detector at the DAPhiNE e(+)e(-) collider. We collected similar to 3.3 x 10(7) tagged charged kaons, from the reaction e(+)e(-) --> phi --> K+K-. We find BR(K+/- --> pi(+/-)pi(0)pi(0)) = (1.763 +/- 0.013(stat) +/- 0.022(syst)) x 10(-2).

Abstract: The KLOE experiment at DA/spl Phi/NE is largely devoted to the study of discrete symmetries in the K/sub S/K/sub L/ system. During 2001-2002, KLOE collected 1.4 /spl times/ 10/sup 9/ /spl phi/ decays, for a total data volume of nearly 200 TB. We describe the KLOE computing environment, outlining our solutions to issues of calibration, reconstruction, data reduction, and data access for analysis. We discuss the performance of the system, with particular emphasis on the data-processing and transfer rates, and also describe the generation of large Monte Carlo samples. The KLOE computing environment has been been demonstrated to be flexible and scalable in the presence of rapidly evolving data-taking conditions.

Abstract: We have measured the ratio R=Gamma(K_L -> gamma gamma)/ \Gamma(K_L -> 3 pi^0) using the KLOE detector. From a sample of ~ 10^9 phi-mesons produced at DAFNE, the Frascati phi-factory, we select ~ 1.6 10^8 K_L-mesons tagged by observing K_S -> pi^+ pi^- following the reaction e^+ e^- -> phi -> K_L K_S. From this sample we select 27,375 K_L -> gamma gamma events and obtain R = (2.79 \pm 0.02_{stat} \pm 0.02_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}. Using the world average value for BR(K_{L} -> 3 pi^0), we obtain BR(K_{L} -> gamma gamma) = (5.89 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.08) \times 10^{-4} where the second error is due to the uncertainty on the 3 pi^0 branching fraction.

Abstract: We present a study of the reaction e+e- --> pi+pi-pi0 at the phi peak W=M(phi)=1019.4 MeV observed with the KLOE detector at Dafne. The reaction is dominated by phi production and decay, e+e- --> phi --> pi+pi-pi0. From a fit to the Dalitz plot density distribution we obtain the rho-meson parameters for its three charge states. We also find the relative amplitudes for phi --> rhopi and phi -> pi+pi-pi0 and the cross-section for e+e- --> omega pi0 with omega --> pi+pi-.

Abstract: We report the results on the radiative decays phi --> eta'gamma, phi --> pi(0)pi(0)gamma and phi --> etapi(0)gamma obtained with the KLOE detector at the DAPhiNE phi-factory, using a sample of similar to 16 pb(-1). The value of the branching ratio for the phi --> eta'gamma decay is related to the s (s) over bar and gluon content of the eta'. A fit to the two-pseudoscalar invariant mass for the pi(0)pi(0)gamma and etapi(0)gamma final states gives the contribution of the direct terms phi --> f(0)gamma, phi --> sigmagamma and phi --> a(0)gamma, allowing us to investigate the nature of these light scalar mesons. Abstract: In the fixed energy environment of the $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider DA$\Phi$NE, KLOE can measure the cross section of the process $e^{+}e^{-} \to$ hadrons as a function of the hadronic system energy using the radiative return. At energies below 1 GeV, $e^{+}e^{-} \to \rho \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ is the dominating hadronic process. Abstract: We have measured the radiative decays phi --> etagamma, phi --> eta'gamma selecting pi(+)pi(-)gammagammagamma final state in a sample of similar to 5 x 10(7) phi-mesons produced at the Frascati phi-factory DAPhiNE. We obtain Gamma(phi --> eta'gamma)/Gamma(phi --> etagamma) = (4.70 +/- 0.47 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3). From this result we derive new accurate values for the branching ratio BR(phi --> eta'gamma) = (6.10 +/- 0.61 +/- 0.43) x 10(-5) and the mixing angle of pseudoscalar mesons in the flavour basis phi(P) = (41.8(-1.6)(+1.9))degrees.

Abstract: The stringent requirements of the KLOE experiment on dimensions, efficiency, resolution and transparency of its drift chamber led to building a tracking device which can be considered innovative from many points of view. Details of the design and construction of this detector, together with preliminary results from the test of its full scale prototype, constructed and operated under a test beam at CERN, are presented and discussed.

Abstract: We have measured the branching ratio BR(phi-->pi(0)pi(0)gamma) with the KLOE detector using a sample of similar to5x10(7) phi decays. phi mesons are produced at DAPhiNE, the Frascati phi-factory. We find BR(phi-->pi(0)pi(0)gamma) = (1.09+/-0.03(stat)+/-0.05(syst)) x 10(-4). We fit the two-pion mass spectrum to models to disentangle contributions from various sources. Abstract: We have measured the ratio R-S(pi) = Gamma(K-S --> pi(+)pi(-)(gamma))/Gamma(K-S --> pi(0)pi(0)) with the KLOE detector at the DAPhiNE e(+)e(-) collider. This measurement is fully inclusive with respect to the pi(+)pi(-)gamma final state. The sample of over 106 two-pion decays of tagged K-S mesons allows a statistical error as low as similar to 0.1% to be obtained. The accuracy is limited by systematic uncertainties, which are estimated primarily from data. We find R-S(pi) = 2.236 +/- 0.003(stat) +/- 0.015(syst).

Abstract: We have measured the cross section $\sigma(e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\gamma)$ with the KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE, at an energy $W=M_\phi=1.02$ GeV. From the dependence of the cross section on $m(\pi^+\pi^-)=\sqrt{W^2-2WE_\gamma}$, where $E_\gamma$ is the energy of the photon radiated from the initial state, we extract $\sigma(e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-)$ for the mass range $0.35

Abstract: The main aim of the KLOE experiment at DA Phi NE, the Frascati phi -factory, is to study CP violation in the K-0-(K) over bar (0) system. Requirements on shower detection are very stringent. An hermetic, lead-scintillating fiber sampling calorimeter has been chosen and built. A review of the methods used to calibrate and reconstruct energy and timing is reported in this paper. Emphasis is given to the calibration procedures developed using the 2.4 pb(-1) collected in 1999. An energy resolution of 5.7% rootE/GeV is achieved together with a linearity in energy response better than 1% above 50 MeV. A time resolution of similar to 54 ps/ rootE/GeV is also measured on samples of radiative Bhabha and Phi decays. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Ail rights reserved.

Abstract: KLOE is acquiring and analyzing hundreds of terabytes of data, stored as tens of millions of files. In order to simplify the access to these files, a URI-based mechanism has been put in place. The KID package is an implementation of that mechanism and is presented in this paper.

Abstract: KLOE, a new state of the art detector recently commissioned for physics operation at DAFNE, has many innovative interesting features, especially in the DAQ and Trigger areas. Custom electronics assert a trigger in a 2 microseconds decision time and distributes it to the FEE with a 50 ps time resolution. Data are read out using 10 front-end data acquisition chains and sent to a farm of online servers through a FDDI Gigaswitch. This design of the KLOE DAQ system allows us to manage an input data rate as high as 50 Mbyte/s, and is completely scalable by extending the number of computers connected to the switch

Abstract: Recently it has been demonstrated that particle factories, such as DAPHNE and PEP-II, operating at fixed center-of-mass energies, are able to measure hadronic cross sections as a function of the hadronic system energy using the raditive return. This paper is an experimental overview of the progress in this aera. Preliminary results from KLOE for the process e+e- -> \rho \gamma -> \pi+\pi-\gamma and a fit to the pion form factor are presented. Abstract: We have measured the ratio Rsπ= Γ(KS→π+ π- (γ))/Γ(KS→π0 π 0) with the KLOE detector at the DAFNE e+e- collider. This measurement is fully inclusive with respect to the pi+pi-gamma final state. The sample of over 10^6 two-pion decays of tagged Ks mesons allows a statistical error as low as 0.1% to be obtained. The accuracy is limited by systematic uncertainties, which are estimated primarily from data. We find R=2.236 +/- 0.003(stat) +/- 0.015(syst).

Abstract: In a sample of 5.3x10^7 ∅-decays observed with the KLOE detector at the Frascati ∅-factory DAF∅NE we find 605 ηπ^0γ events with η→γγ and 197 π^0γ events with η→π^+π^-π^0. The decay ηπ^0γ is dominated by the process ∅→a_0γ.From a fit to the ηπ^0 mass spectrum we find BR(∅→ηa_0(980)γ)=(7.4±0.7)x10^{-5}.

Abstract: The design and construction of the large Drift Chamber for the KLOE experiment at the Frascati phi-factory, DAPHNE, are described. The relevant aspects of the various elements of the detector are reviewed together with a description of the track reconstruction program and of the calibration procedures. The performance of the detector based on measurements with cosmic rays and with e+ e- colliding beams during DAPHNE commissioning is presented.

Abstract: The KLOE detector is operational since spring '99 at DA?NE, the Frascati e+e- collider, a -factory running at 1.02 GeV c.m. energy. This detector has been designed and built with the primary goal of measuring Re(?' / ?), the CP violation parameter in the kaon system, with a sensitivity of about one part in ten thousands. Apart from CP studies in the kaon system, KLOE has a rich scientific program that can be exploited with an integrated luminosity not far from the one which has already been collected, namely the study of decays into scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, the measurement of the hadronic cross-section up to 1 GeV, rare kaon decays, decays into three pions. Since the detector installation there have been three periods of stable data taking and a total amount of ~200 pb-1 has been collected by end of 2001, corresponding to ~6.7 ? 108 mesons and to ~8.7 ? 106 ? mesons, being BR( ? ??) = (1.297?0.033) ? 10-2. We present the results obtained, for a data sample of 17 pb-1 collected in the year 2000, for ? ?? and ? ?'?: the ratio of these two BR's has been measured to be (5.3 ? 0.5 ? 0.4) ? 10-3, leading to a very accurate determination of the mixing angle in the flavor basis P = (40+7.5-1.5)? and to the most accurate determination of BR( ? ?'?) to date; (6.8 ? 0.6 ? 0.5) ? 10-5. From the ratio BR( ? ?'?)/BR( ? ?0?) we have extracted the value BR( ? ?0?) = (1.377 ? 0.007 ? 0.05) ? 10-3.

Abstract: Recent results obtained by the KLOE experiment operating at DAPhiNE, the Frascati phi-factory, are presented. From a sample of about 10(9) phi-mesons produced at DAPhiNE, we select K-L and K-S tagged mesons. We present the preliminary results on the search for K-S --> 3pi(0), the branching ratio of the decay K-S --> pienu, and on the major K-L branching ratios, including the semileptonic decays relevant for the \V-us\ determination. A preliminary measurement of the K-L lifetime, using K-L --> pi(0)pi(0)pi(0) decays, is also given.

Abstract: KLOE uses the radiative return to measure the hadronic cross section e(+)e(-) --> pi(+) pi(-) at DAPhiNE. The emission of one or more hard photons in the initial state (ISR) reduces the collision energy, otherwise fixed at 1020 MeV, and allows to perform an effective scan of the two pions invariant mass squared, s(pi), in the whole s(pi) region 2 from threshold to m.. An extremely accurate knowledge of experimental systematics, background, luminosity and, on the theoretical side, a precise description of initial state radiation are needed to perform a competitive measurement. We present here the status of the analysis of 140 pb(-1) collected in 2001. A preliminary evaluation of the hadronic contribution to a(mu) in the S-pi range between 0.37 GeV2 and 0.93 GeV2 yields a(mu) = 378.4 +/- 0.8(stat) +/- 4.5(syst) +/- 3-0(theo) 3.8(FSR), consistent with the CMD-2 result and confirming the present discrepancy between e(+)e(-) and tau data.

Abstract: We have searched with the KLOE detector for the P and CP violating decay eta --> pi(+)pi(-) in a sample of 1.55 x 10(7) eta's from the decay phi --> etagamma of phi-mesons produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at DAPhiNE. No signal is found. We obtain the upper limit BR(eta --> pi(+)pi(-)) < 1.3 x 10(-5) at 90% confidence level. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We have searched for the C-violating decay eta --> gammagammagamma in a sample of similar to 18 million eta mesons produced in phi --> etagamma decays, collected with the KLOE detector at the Frascati phi-factory DAPhiNE. No signal is observed and we obtain the upper limit BR(eta --> gammagammagamma) less than or equal to 1.6 x 10(-5) at 90% CL. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The Frascati e +e - collider, DAΨNE, operates at a center of mass energy of ∼1020MeV, the mass of the φ-meson. Three detectors have been realized, KLOE, DEAR, and FINUDA. The first two are presently collecting data in the two DAΨNE interaction regions (IR), while the third is being assembled in its pit inside the DAΨNE hall and will take data in the IR occupied by DEAR. The KLOE experiment, which is designed to measure CP and CPT violation parameters in the K SK L system, has collected so far ∼300 pb -1. Measurements obtained using the year 2000 data sample will be presented, which are focussed on K S physics and φ radiative decays. The DEAR experiment aims at studying the scattering lengths of the kaon-nucleon system, through a precise measurement of the K α line shifts in kaonic hydrogen and kaonic deuterium. With 2001 and 2002 data-taking periods the DEAR collaboration has demonstrated the capability of creating and detecting exotic atoms using the kaon flux from DAΨNE, by measuring the X-ray spectrum of kaonic nitrogen. The present status and perspectives of the DEAR experiment will be discussed. A brief report will be given at the end on the FINUDA physics program, aiming at the study of the A-hypernuclei levels and lifetimes.

Abstract: In the fixed energy environment of the e +e - collider DAΦNE, KLOE can measure the cross section of the process e +e - → hadrons as a function of the hadronic system energy using the radiative return. At energies below 1 GeV, e +e - → π → π +π - is the dominating hadronic process. We report here on the status of the analysis for the e +e - → π +π - γ channel, which allows to obtain a preliminary measurement of the pion form factor using an integrated luminosity of ∼ 73pb -1.
