Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is a very important aspect in the design of spaces. It depends on fundamental requirements, and it aims to improve living quality and ensure high well-being for the occupants. Poor IEQ has significant health consequences as people spend a considerable portion of their time indoors. The restrictions imposed by the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic have worsened this situation by requiring people to spend more time at home and adopt home-working as a primary work model. Such a situation requires individuals to reconfigure their interior home spaces for adapting to new emerging needs. This paper proposes an approach based on reinforcement learning to support the rearrangement of indoor spaces by maximizing the indoor environmental quality index in terms of thermal, acoustic and visual comfort in the new furniture layout scheme © 2021 The authors and IOS Press.

La European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) recast (EPBD) propone una metodologia comparativa per calcolare i livelli ottimali in termini di costi dei requisiti minimi di rendimento energetico per gli edifici. Questo articolo presenta una metodologia in grado di selezionare il migliore intervento di retrofit per i sistema di illuminazione negli edifici pubblici. In particolare essa si basa su una analisi selettiva delle condizioni di luce diurna nei diversi ambienti e sulla applicazione della cost-optimal analysis. La metodologia è stata applicata a due casi studio presenti in Italia per i quali sono stati scelti diversi scenari. Con l’obiettivo di migliorare le condizioni di comfort visivo e di raggiungere risparmi energetici ed econocmici, gli scenari selezionati propongono due soluzioni di interventi di retrofit: la sostituzione delle lampade esistente con tecnologie più efficienti e l’applicazione di sistemi di controllo. Il risultato della analisi “cost-optimal” suggerisce l’azione o la combinazione di azioni che massimizza il valore attuale netto.

This paper proposes a study about the feasibility to modulate the indoor artificial lighting, taking into account both achievable energy savings and comfort conditions, in order to reduce lighting electric loads. In particular, it focuses on the possibility, on one hand, to decrease the luminous flux and, on the other hand, to change the Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT), in order to decrease the absorbed power. Moreover, the impact of daylight-linked control systems was considered. Finally, the possibility to combine the different technical solutions was analysed. The paper proposes the definition of daily scheduling referred to lighting energy management, in order to modulate the maximum load value, maintaining a minimum during the rest of the time for an office end use.

The BAC factors method was introduced by the international Standard EN 15232 for a rough evaluation of energy savings in buildings obtained thanks to automation. The above standard considers the building's services such as heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting and takes into account automation on the basis of assumed usage profile for the related technical installations. However, the standard does not refer specifically to the automation of outdoor lighting systems such as those serving gardens, entrance walkways and passages around the building and supplied by it. In this paper, the authors propose a method for evaluation an outdoor BAC factor for lighting system considering various scenarios. The method can be seen as a possible extension of the one proposed by EN 15232 and can be used with the same purposes.
