Abstract

Abstract First physics results of the BM@N experiment at the Nuclotron/NICA complex are presented on π + and K + meson production in interactions of an argon beam with fixed targets of C, Al, Cu, Sn and Pb at 3.2 A GeV. Transverse momentum distributions, rapidity spectra and multiplicities of π + and K + mesons are measured. The results are compared with predictions of theoretical models and with other measurements at lower energies.

Abstract

In the FRAGM experiment at the heavy-ion accelerator $$-$$ accumulator complex ITEP $$-$$ TWA, yields of cumulative charged $$\pi$$ mesons have been measured in a fragmentation of carbon ions with the energy of 3.2 GeV/nucleon on a beryllium target. The momentum spectra of $$\pi$$ mesons cover four orders of the invariant cross section magnitude. They demonstrate the exponential fall with increasing energy. The measured inverse slope parameter is compared with similar measurements in nucleon–nucleus interactions and ion–ion collisions at lower energies. The energy dependence of the ratio of the yields of negative to positive $$\pi$$ mesons is presented. This dependence is discussed in a connection with Coulomb and isotopic effects. The obtained data are compared with predictions of several ion–ion interaction models.

Abstract

Differential cross sections for the production of nuclear fragments at an angle of 3.5° in the fragmentation of 2-GeV/nucleon carbon ions on a beryllium target were measured in the FRAGM experiment performed at the ITEP-TWA heavy-ion accelerator-accumulator complex. The predictions of four Monte Carlo models of ion-ion interactions (BC, INCL, LAQGSM, and QMD) were tested on the basis of a comparison with the momentum spectra of fragments. Successes and drawbacks of these models are discussed. The energy spectra of protons and 3He nuclei in the cumulative region in the projectile rest frame are well described by an exponential dependence, which make it possible to estimate temperature parameters of their emission source.

Abstract

The spatial distribution of particle fluences in the extended uranium target (“Quinta” assembly) irradiated by 0.66 GeV proton, 4 AGeV deuteron and carbon beams is studied by analyzing the accumulation rates of the isotopes with different threshold energy (E th ) in 59 Co samples. The accumulation rates for the following isotopes: 60 Co (E th ≈ 0 MeV), 59 Fe (E th ≈ 3 MeV), 58 Co (E th ≈ 10 MeV), 57 Co (E th ≈ 20 MeV), 56 Co (E th ≈ 32 MeV), 47 Sc (E th ≈ 55 MeV) , and 48 V (E th ≈ 70 MeV) were measured using the HPGe spectrometer. The experimental accumulation rates and the reconstructed neutron spectra are compared with the simulations using the codes Geant4 and MARS15. The noticeable difference between the simulated and the experimental data, especially in the hard part of the neutron spectrum, is analyzed.

Abstract

The new monte-carlo generator of heavy ion collisions, DCM-SMM, based on Dubna Cascade Model (DCM-QGSM) and Statistical Multifragmentation Model (SMM) is described. The model aimed to generate particle--nucleus and nucleus--nucleus collisions at a wide range of energy was created to provide the computer simulation support to new experimental facilities BMN and MPD at the accelerator complex NICA. Abstract

International audience; Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 ( $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 2.7--4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials ( $\mu_B > 500$ MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation of state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2024, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter.

Abstract

The FRAGM experiment at the ITEP-TWA heavy ion facility has a unique opportunity of measuring the momentum distributions of nuclear fragments. We present the results of 56Fe fragmentation into light ions on 9Be target at 0.23 GeV/nucleon. The momentum spectra of projectile like fragments were measured with a high resolution beam line spectrometer. In contrast to the carbon fragmentation, where the momentum spectra have Gaussian-like shapes, in the emission of the light fragments the shapes have a double-humped structure. This splitting is most pronounced in proton spectra. The possibility of describing this effect by asymmetric fission and multifragmentation is discussed. A comparison is made with the results of the FRS measurements at GSI. The obtained experimental data are in a reasonable agreement with the predictions of several transport codes such as BC, INCL and LAQGSM.
