Breast cancer-related lymphedema is the most common side effect that occurs after the treatment. There are four stages of evolution of the lymphedema and the most frequent treatment used is complete decongestive therapy (CDT). This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of CDT in the treatment of breast cancer-related lymphedema. After the final assessment, the data were processed statistically and we found that the evaluated circumferences decreased, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the CDT.

Using the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, we have detected absorption lines due to carbon monoxide, CO( J = 0 → 1), and the cyano radical, CN( N = 0 → 1), associated with radio galaxy B2 0902+34 at redshift z = 3.4. The detection of millimeter-band absorption observed 1.5 Gyr after the Big Bang facilitates studying molecular clouds down to gas masses inaccessible to emission-line observations. The CO absorption in B2 0902+34 has a peak optical depth of τ ≥ 8.6% and consists of two components, one of which has the same redshift as previously detected 21 cm absorption of neutral hydrogen (H i ) gas. Each CO component traces an integrated H _2 column density of ${N}_{{{\rm{H}}}_{2}}$ ≳ 3 × 10 ^20 cm ^−2 . CN absorption is detected for both CO components, as well as for a blueshifted component not detected in CO, with CO/CN line ratios ranging from ≲0.4 to 2.4. We discuss the scenario that the absorption components originate from collections of small and dense molecular clouds that are embedded in a region with more diffuse gas and high turbulence, possibly within the influence of the central active galactic nucleus or a starburst region. The degree of reddening in B2 0902+34, with rest-frame color B − K ∼ 4.2, is lower than the very red colors ( B − K > 6) found among other known redshifted CO absorption systems at z < 1. Nevertheless, when including the many nondetections from the literature, a potential correlation between the absorption-line strength and B − K color is evident, giving weight to the argument that the red colors of CO absorbers are due to a high dust content.

Transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME), first introduced in 2010, represents a relatively new approach in the surgical treatment of rectal cancer. A case of a 65-years-old patient diagnosed with moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of the middle rectum (cT2N0M0) is presented. Taking into consideration patient's characteristics and tumour features, the surgical team decided to use transanal total mesorectal excision technique. The surgical technique, as well as potential postoperative complications and oncological issues are discussed in the article. Patient selection and extensive experience in minimally invasive colorectal surgery are the bases for an optimal technique implementation. Although further studies are required in order to confirm its superiority over the laparoscopic total mesorectal excision, TaTME seems to be a safe and feasible option in the surgical approach of rectal cancer., (Celsius.)

Giant cell tumor (GCT) is considered a locally aggressive, intermediate grade benign bone neoplasm. In rare cases, GCT undergoes malignant degeneration or may cause distant metastasis, mainly in the pulmonary area. Most bone GCTs are situated in the epiphysis or metaphysis of long bones, while GCTs of the pelvis are quite rare. There is no standard treatment protocol for the GCT of pelvic bones. This paper presents the therapeutic management of a rare case of a stage III GCT, situated on the iliac tuberosity, sacral wing and partially the left iliac wing. The chosen treatment consisted in intralesional curettage, high-speed burring, phenolization and hydrogen peroxide lavage. At the six-week follow-up, the patient reported minimal disability. No complications and no local infections were revealed. Healing was confirmed by the two-year postoperative follow-up. This case report demonstrates that intralesional curettage complemented with adjuvant therapies is a viable alternative to wide resection surgery for the treatment of aggressive GCT.

Cutaneous melanoma is the most aggressive type of skin cancer, with high invasive potential. Lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM) is a relatively rare type, accounting for about 10% of all melanomas, while the most common subtype of melanoma on the face, typically on chronically sun-exposed skin of elderly people. Its in situ stage is lentigo maligna (LM). During the process of transformation from LM to LMM, tumor cells secrete or induce the release from neighboring cells of large amounts of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade the extracellular matrix. Some MMPs, as MMP3 and MMP9 expressed melanoma cells is associated with statistical significance in both in vitro and in vivo studies, with an invasive phenotype. Unfortunately, there is scarce data published about MMPs expression in LM∕LMM, as majority of research on melanoma refer to superficial spreading and nodular melanoma. Our personal, unpublished yet fully data is an attempt to complete a specific panel of immunohistochemical markers that could explain the slow growing rate of LMM.
