Abstract: The results of a measurement of the proton structure function F_2(x,Q^2)and the virtual photon-proton cross section are reported for momentum transfers squared Q^2 between 0.35 GeV^2 and 3.5 GeV^2 and for Bjorken-x values down to 6 10^{-6} using data collected by the HERA experiment H1 in 1995. The data represent an increase in kinematic reach to lower x and Q^2 values of about a factor of 5 compared to previous H1 measurements. Including measurements from fixed target experiments the rise of F_2 with decreasing x is found to be less steep for the lowest Q^2 values measured. Abstract: A measurement of the inclusive cross section for the deep-inelastic scattering of positrons off protons at HERA is presented at momentum transfers $8.5 \leq Q^2 \leq 35 GeV^2$ and large inelasticity $y = 0.7$, i.e. for the Bjorken-x range $0.00013 \leq x \leq 0.00055$. Using a next-to-leading order QCD fit to the structure function F_2 at lower y values, the contribution of F_2 to the measured cross section at high y is calculated and, by subtraction, the longitudinal structure function F_{L} is determined for the first time with an average value of $F_L=0.52 \pm 0.03 (stat)$^ {+0.25}_{-0.22}$ (syst) at $Q^2=15.4 GeV^2$ and $x=0.000243$., 17 pages, latex, 4 Figures

Abstract: At the electron-proton collider HERA the inclusive D-*+/- meson photoproduction cross section has been measured with the H1 detector in two different, but partly overlapping, kinematical regions. For the first, where [W-gamma p] approximate to 200 GeV and Q(2) < 0.01 GeV2, the result is sigma(gamma p --> c(c) over barX$) = (13.2 +/- 2.2(-1.7-4.8)(+2.1+9.9)) mu b. The second measurement for Q(2) < 4 GeV2 yields sigma(gamma p) --> c(c) over barX$) = (9.3 +/- 2.1(-1.8-3.2)(+1.9+6.9)) mu b at [W-gamma p] approximate to 142 GeV and sigma(gamma p --> c(c) over barX$) = (20.6 +/- 5.5(-3.9-7.2)(+4.3+15.4)) mu b at [W-gamma p] approximate to 230 GeV, respectively. The third error accounts for an additional uncertainty due to the proton and photon parton density parametrizations. Differential cross sections are presented as a function of the D-*+/- transverse momentum and rapidity. The results compare reasonably well with next-to-leading order QCD calculations. Evidence for diffractive photoproduction of charm quarks is presented.

Abstract: The total cross sections for the elastic electroproduction of $\rh0$ and $J/\Psi$ mesons for $Q^2$ $>$ 8 GeV$^2$ and $ \simeq 90$ GeV/c$^2$ are measured at HERA with the H1 detector. The measurements are for an integrated electron$-$proton luminosity of $\simeq$~3~pb$^{-1}$. The dependences of the total virtual photon$-$proton ($\gamma^* p$) cross sections on $Q^2$, $W$ and the momentum transfer squared to the proton ($t$), and, for the $\rho$, the dependence on the polar decay angle ($\cos \theta^*$), are presented. The $J/\Psi$ : $\rh0$ cross section ratio is determined. The results are discussed in the light of theoretical models and of the interplay of hard and soft physics processes.

Abstract: A search for scalar and vector leptoquarks coupling to first generation fermions is performed using the e^+p and e^-p scattering data collected by the H1 experiment between 1994 and 2000. The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 117 pb^{-1}. No evidence for the direct or indirect production of such particles is found in data samples with a large transverse momentum final state electron or with large missing transverse momentum. Constraints on leptoquark models are established. For leptoquark couplings of electromagnetic strength, leptoquarks with masses up to 275-325 GeV are ruled out. These limits improve and supercede earlier H1 limits based on subsamples of the data used here., 15 pages, 1 table, 5 figures

Abstract: A measurement of inclusive jet cross-sections in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA is presented based on data with an integrated luminosity of 21.1 pb^-1. The measurement is performed for photon virtualities Q^2 between 5 and 100 GeV^2, differentially in Q^2, in the jet transverse energy E_T, in E_T^2/Q^2 and in the pseudorapidity eta_lab. With the renormalization scale mu_R = E_T, perturbative QCD calculations in next-to-leading order (NLO) give a good description of the data in most of the phase space. Significant discrepancies are observed only for jets in the proton beam direction with E_T below 20 GeV and Q^2 below 20 GeV^2. This corresponds to the region in which NLO corrections are largest and further improvement of the calculations is thus of particular interest., 20 pages, 4 figures and 3 tables

Abstract: We present a search for excited neutrinos using e-p data taken by the H1 experiment at HERA at a center-of-mass energy of 318 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 15 pb-1. No evidence for excited neutrino production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits are determined for the ratio of the coupling to the compositeness scale, f/A, independently of the relative couplings to the SU(2) and U(1) gauge bosons. These limits extend the excluded region to higher masses than has been possible in previous searches at other colliders. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: Three-jet production is studied for the first time in deep-inelastic positron-proton scattering. The measurement carried out with the H1 detector at HERA covers a large range of four-momentum transfer squared 5 < Q^2 < 5000 GeV^2 and invariant three-jet masses 25 < M_(3jet) < 140 GeV. Jets are defined by the inclusive k_T algorithm in the Breit frame. The size of the three-jet cross section and the ratio of the three-jet to the dijet cross section R_(3/2) are described over the whole phase space by the predictions of perturbative QCD in next-to-leading order. The shapes of angular jet distributions deviate significantly from a uniform population of the available phase space but are well described by the QCD calculation., 17 pages, 5 figures, 1 table

Abstract: A search for scalar and vector leptoquarks coupling to first generation fermions is performed in the HI experiment at the ep collider HERA. The analysis uses e-p data collected in 1998 and 1999 at a centre-of-mass energy of 320 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ∼ 15 pb-1. No evidence for the direct production of such particles is found in a data sample with a large transverse momentum final state electron or with large missing transverse momentum, and constraints on leptoquark models are established. For a Yukawa coupling of electromagnetic strength leptoquarks are excluded for masses up to ∼ 290 GeV. This analysis complements the leptoquark searches performed previously using data collected whilst HERA was operating with positrons instead of electrons. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: We present a search for excited electrons, neutrinos and quarks using the H1 detector at the $ep$ collider HERA, based on data taken in 1994 with an integrated luminosity of 2.75 pb$^{-1}$. Radiative decays of excited quarks and neutrinos have been investigated as well as decays of excited electrons into all possible electroweak gauge bosons. No evidence for new particle production is found and exclusion limits are derived., Comment: 20 pages, latex, 6 Figures

Abstract: The transition between photoproduction and deep-inelastic scattering is investigated in jet production at the HERA ep collider, using data collected by the H1 experiment. Measurements of the differential inclusive jet cross-sections dsigep/dEt* and dsigmep/deta*, where Et* and eta* are the transverse energy and the pseudorapidity of the jets in the virtual photon-proton centre of mass frame, are presented for 0 < Q2 < 49 GeV2 and 0.3 < y < 0.6. The interpretation of the results in terms of the structure of the virtual photon is discussed. The data are best described by QCD calculations which include a partonic structure of the virtual photon that evolves with Q2., 20 pages, 5 Figures

Abstract: Transverse momentum spectra of charged particles produced in deep inelastic scattering are measured as a function of the kinematic variables x_B and Q2 using the H1 detector at the ep collider HERA. The data are compared to different parton emission models, either with or without ordering of the emissions in transverse momentum. Abstract: A search for leptoquarks at HERA was performed in H1 using 1994 $e^+ p$ data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about $3 \pb^{-1}$. Single leptoquarks were searched for in direct positron-quark fusion processes taking into account possible decays into lepton-quark pairs of either the first, the second, or the third generation. No significant deviation from the Standard Model predictions is found in the various final states studied and mass dependent exclusion limits are derived on the Yukawa couplings of the leptoquarks. Compared with earlier results from an analysis of $e^-p$ data, exclusion limits are considerably improved for leptoquarks which could be produced via $e^+$-{\it valence~quark} fusion. For leptoquarks with lepton flavour conserving couplings, masses up to $275 \GeV$ (depending on the leptoquark type) are excluded for coupling values larger than $\sqrt{ 4 \pi \alpha_{em}}$. For leptoquarks with lepton flavour violating couplings, masses up to $225 \GeV$ are excluded for the first time in a direct search for couplings with leptons of the second or third generation larger than $\sqrt{ 4 \pi \alpha_{em}}$. Abstract: The inclusive production of D*±(2010) mesons in deep-inelastic scattering is studied with the H1 detector at HERA. In the kinematic region 1 < Q2 < 100 GeV2 and 0.05 < y < 0.7 an e+ p cross section for inclusive D*± meson production of 8.50 ± 0.42(stat.)+1.21-1.00 (syst.) nb is measured in the visible range PtD* > 1.5 GeV and ηD*< 1.5. Single and double differential inclusive D*± meson cross sections are compared to perturbative QCD calculations in two different evolution schemes. The charm contribution to the proton structure, FC2(X, Q2), is determined by extrapolating the visible charm cross section to the full phase space. This contribution is found to rise from about 10% at Q2 = 1.5 GeV2 to more than 25% at Q2 = 60 GeV2 corresponding to x values ranging from 5 × 10-5 to 3 × 10-3. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: Grains of high-potassic (arithmetic mean: 8.2% K2O) glauconite, occurring in limestones at the base of the Ordovician in Sweden, have shrunk in a relatively rigid matrix and cement. The shrinkage was accompanied by the last phase of cementation. The preservation of pyrite speaks against shrinkage under weathering conditions. Submarine cementation is indicated.

Abstract: A lower Arenigian limestone bed contains the first Lower Ordovician tephra layer to be found in northern Europe outside of the Caledonian fold-belt. The tephra is unusual insofar as the volcaniclastic fragments are preserved as calcite pseudomorphs surrounded by a thin skin of mixed-layer illite/beidellite. Structures occurring in the limestone beneath the tephra are interpreted as due to percolation of gas. These structures include forcibly injected sedimentary sills and pipes. The pipes functioned as micro-vents after sedimentation of the tephra layer and incipient sedimentation had stopped free percolation of gas through the calcareous sediment. Spar filled cavities contain evidence of early cementation. The succession of events has created structures some of which might incorrectl be regarded as intertidal.

Abstract: The scale dependence of the evolution of photoproduction cross sections with the photon-proton centre of mass energy W is studied using low Q^2 < 0.01 GeV^2 e^+p interactions collected by the H1 experiment at HERA. The value of the largest transverse momentum of a charged particle in the photon fragmentation region is used to define the hard scale. The slope of the $W$ dependence of the cross section is observed to increase steeply with increasing transverse momentum. The result is compared to measurements of the Q^2 evolution of the W dependence of the virtual photon-proton cross section. Interpretations in terms of QCD and in terms of Regge phenomenology are discussed., 13 pages, latex, 3 Figures

Abstract: Results on diffractive photoproduction of psi(2S) mesons are presented using data collected between 1996 and 2000 with the H1 detector at the HERA ep collider. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 77 pb(-1). The energy dependence of the diffractive psi(2S) cross section is found to be similar to or possibly somewhat steeper than that for J/psi mesons. The dependences of the elastic and proton dissociative psi(2S) photoproduction cross sections on the squared momentum transfer t at the proton vertex are measured. The t-dependence of the elastic channel, parametrised as e(bt), yields b(el)(psi(2S)) = (4.31 +/- 0.57 +/- 0.46) GeV-2, compatible with that of the J/psi. For the proton dissociative channel the result b(pd)(psi(2S)) = (0.59 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.12) GeV-2 is 2.3 standard deviations smaller than that measured for the J/psi. With proper account of the individual wavefunctions theoretical predictions based on perturbative QCD are found to describe the measurements well. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The first observation of open b production in ep collisions is reported. An event sample containing muons and jets has been selected which is enriched in semileptonic b quark decays. The visible cross section \sigma(ep -> b \bar{b}X -> \mu X') for Q^2 < 1 GeV^2, 0.1 < y < 0.8 is measured to be 0.176+-0.016(stat.)+0.026-0.017(syst.) nb for the muons to be detected in the range 35 deg < \theta^\mu < 130 deg and \pt^\mu > 2.0 GeV in the laboratory frame. The expected visible cross section based on a NLO QCD calculation is 0.104+-0.017 nb. The cross sections for electroproduction with Q^2 e b\bar{b}X) = 7.1+-0.6(stat.)+1.5-1.3(syst.) nb and \sigma(\gamma p-> b\bar{b} X) = 111+-10(stat.)+23-20(syst.) at an average \sim 180 GeV, respectively., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, 0 tables, submitted to Physics Letters B

34. The effect of the employment of experienced physicians in the Emergency Department on quality of care and equality-a quasi-experimental retrospective cohort study.

Abstract: Background: Increasing acute admissions in Emergency Departments (EDs) negatively affect quality of care, safety and flow. Thus, the Danish Health Authorities recommend the presence of experienced physicians in the ED. In 2016, consultant-led triage and continuous presence of consultants were introduced at a larger ED in Copenhagen, Denmark. This study investigated whether the employment of consultants in a Danish ED affected the quality of care for acutely admitted medical patients in terms of length of admission, readmission and mortality, as well as socioeconomic equality in quality of care delivery., Methods: Admission data were collected during two 7-month periods, one prior to and one after the organizational intervention, with 9869 adult medical patients admitted for up to 48 h in the ED. Linear regression and Cox proportional hazards regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, comorbidities, level of education and employment status were applied., Results: Following the employment of consultants, an overall 11% increase in index-admissions was observed, and 90% of patients were discharged by a consultant with a reduced mean length of admission by 1.4 h (95% CI: 1.0-1.9). No change was found in in-hospital mortality, readmission or mortality within 90 days after discharge. No change in distribution of quality indicators across patients' socioeconomic status was found., Conclusions: Consultants in the ED was found to reduce length of hospitalization without a negative effect on the quality of care for ED-admitted medical patients in general or patients with lower socioeconomic status., (© The Author(s) 2021.
