The transnational empirical project zooms in on ‘German language classrooms’ and the teachers’ task of dealing with the double bind between ‘the need to teach the German language for the empowerment of the learners’ on the one hand and the consequent ‘reproduction of the hegemonic norm of a monolingual society’ on the other. The teachers in the focus of the project work for institutes of adult education with learners who are migrants and refugees living in Germany or Austria. The results show how teachers frame their work through two central positions. The first can be framed as ‘paternalistic benevolence’and the second as ‘enabling violence’. The latter corresponds to a critical stance reflecting on the harm done in learning spaces while still being inevitable in nation states that construct themselves as monolingual unities. Pedagogical professionals looking for a responsible path that reduces the violence done to a minimum will discover interesting reflections on the possibilities of how to find an always uncertain and contradictory place in the interstices.

Cross-species transmission events and mixed infection of small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) were studied in seven goats and two sheep from three small ruminant mixed flocks from Northeast and Southeast Brazil. Genetic and antigenic analyses with gag/env genes and ELISA multiepitope SU1/SU5 recombinant antigens were carried out, respectively. The genetic analysis of gag and env sequences showed high viral diversity in both species, MVV-like (subtype A1) and CAEV-like B1 in goats, and CAEV-like (subtype B1) in sheep, revealing SRLV interspecies transmission from sheep to goats and vice versa in Brazilian farms. Two Brazilian caprine lentiviruses were segregated in two new genetic clades based on gag analyses, which suggests a new classification into heterogenic genotype A. Furthermore, goat isolates were grouped into subtype A1 and B1 clusters. Cross-reactive antibodies were detected in goats using ELISA with a recombinant antigen carrying SU1 and SU5 immunodominant epitopes; the results showed anti-CAEV and MVV antibodies in goats and anti-CAEV antibodies in sheep. This result can be associated with the high divergence in the V4 region due to SRLV variability. All results confirm cross-species infection of SRLV in Brazilian mixed herds.

Migration has become both a consequence of and support structure for global racialised capitalism. A presumed source of support for the people who migrate is adult education, especially the second language learning class. However, as a state organized institution, the policies and practices that govern second-language courses serve to inculcate the ideologies and values that support a racialised capitalist system. We draw on two case examples – the U.S. and Germany – to demonstrate these entanglements. We engage Freire’s critical pedagogy wherein learning contexts encourage students to question the realities of their lives, and Foucault’s ideas regarding heterotopian places where the hegemonic norm is suspended and different approaches of pedagogical work can be implemented. We conclude with the suggestion of different pedagogical paths – a ‘pedagogy of dreaming’ and a ‘pedagogy of courage.’

In gegenwartigen europaischen Verhaltnissen wird Migration, und insbesondere Fluchtmigration, diskursiv in erster Linie als Sicherheitsbedrohung dargestellt. Erwachsenbildung – vor allem staatlich subventionierte – befindet sich in einem Dilemma. Einerseits ist es ihre bildungspolitische Aufgabe, allen Erwachsenen einen Bildungsort anzubieten, an dem sie sich gemas ihren Interessen, Fahigkeiten und Bedarfen weiterentwickeln konnen. Ungleichen (Teilhabe‑)Chancen soll damit entgegengewirkt und dem humanistischen Bildungsideal der Entfaltung von Personlichkeit entsprochen werden. Andererseits werden Institutionen der Erwachsenenbildung – vor allem dann, wenn es um Migrierte oder Gefluchtete geht – fur die Durchsetzung staatlicher Kontroll- und Nutzungsinteressen instrumentalisiert. Um in diesem Dilemma eine reflexive und widerstandige Haltung zu bewahren, braucht es Raum und Zeit fur (selbst-)kritische Auseinandersetzung. Auf der Grundlage von Interviewdaten mit padagogischen Fachkraften, die fur die Organisation von Deutschkursen fur Gefluchtete und Migrierte zustandig sind, werden zunachst die gesellschaftlichen Krafteverhaltnisse transparent gemacht, innerhalb derer sich padagogische Praxis gegenwartig bewegt. In einem zweiten Schritt wird beleuchtet, wo auch innerhalb der gegebenen Verhaltnisse Raume bleiben, in denen genuin erwachsenenpadagogische Ziele erreicht und Fragen nach einer Veranderbarkeit der Verhaltnisse gestellt werden konnen.

Actual hegemonic structures are imperial structures. They rely on the oppression and marginalisation of all of those who are produced and marked as the Other. Considering the profound impact of the epistemic violence that was deployed to build empires, it comes as no surprise that, to be able to decolonise the university, it will not be enough to change the curricula, to challenge the canon, to employ ‘diversity officers’, or to make the classroom more inclusive. Instead, this contribution proposes a deconstruction of the university and pleas for unlearning as a strategy that aims towards an epistemic change. Furthermore, in a deliberate attempt to save the unsalvageable – the European university – we call for the respelling of hopelessness.

Im Rahmen einer Tagung, die kurzlich in Graz stattfand, schlug einer der Vortragenden vor, die leidige ‚Integrationsdebatte‘ doch mit einem neuen Begriff zu besetzen und in ‚Inklusionsdebatte‘ umzubenennen. Durch eine solche Neubesetzung sollte die einseitige Anforderung an die Migrationsanderen, sich in die bestehende Mehrheitsgesellschaft zu integrieren, umgangen und ein gesamtgesellschaftlicher Blick auf Offnungs- und Schliesungsprozesse angeregt werden. Ein guter Ansatz, doch ein emportes Raunen ging durch den Raum und ein Zwischenruf, der den als Anlass des Raunens in Worte fasste: „Bitte nicht der Inklusionsbegriff. Eine Migrationserfahrung ist doch keine Behinderung.“

„Die sprechen bestimmt (schlecht) uber mich“ – Ein Satz, der aus dem Mund von Lehrer_innen, Arbeitskolleg_innen, Mitreisenden in offentlichen Verkehrsmitteln und anderen immer wieder zu vernehmen ist, wenn in ihrer Horweite eine der gesellschaftlich delegitimierten Sprachen gesprochen wird und sie selbige nicht verstehen. Delegitimierte Sprachen sind in diesem Kontext solche, die nicht wie das Franzosische, Englische und teilweise auch Spanische einen Ausdruck der staunenden Bewunderung fur die Sprachkompetenz der Sprecher_innen bei den Zuhorenden hervorrufen, sondern eher als fremd und storend wahrgenommen werden, wenn sie im offentlichen Raum gesprochen werden. Es sind solche Sprachen, wie das Polnische, Arabische, Vietnamesische, Bosnische und weitere, die in den amtlich dominant deutschsprachigen, aber faktisch mehrsprachigen Gesellschaften als sogenannte Migrant_innensprachen gelten und deren Sprecher_innen uber verschiedene hegemoniale diskursive Praxen ein gesellschaftlich marginalisierter Status zugewiesen wird (vgl. etwa Dirim/Mecheril 2010; Castro Varela/Mecheril 2010).

RESUMO - O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a prevalência de anticorpos contra linfadenite caseosa (LC) em rebanhos ovinos comerciais do Distrito Federal (DF). Foram coletadas 1.028 amostras de soro entre março e junho de 2004, de todas as propriedades (32) do Distrito Federal com pelo menos 20 fêmeas adultas no rebanho. A soroprevalência da linfadenite caseosa foi determinada por ELISA com proteínas secretadas de Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. Cinquenta por cento das 32 propriedades apresentaram pelo menos um animal soropositivo para o LC e a prevalência real para animais foi de 44,0% (IC 95: 41,0; 47,0), portanto, esses dados sugerem que a LC está presente em rebanhos ovinos comerciais no Distrito Federal. ABSTRACT - The objective of this study was to determinate the seroprevalence of caseous lymphadenitis (CL) in commercial sheep herds in the Federal District, Brazil. One thousand and twenty-eight serum samples were collected, between March and June 2004, from all the properties (32) with at least 20 adult females in the flock. The seroprevalence of caseous lymphadenitis was determined by ELISA with secreted proteins of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. The real prevalence value for the animals was 44.0% (CI 95: 41.0; 47.0), and 50.0% of the 32 herds had at least one animal seropositive for CL. Der in Deutschland stattfindende demographische Wandel im Sinne einer Veranderung der Gesellschaft hin zu einer Migrationsgesellschaft ist entscheidend davon gezeichnet, dass Menschen ihren Wohnort sowohl intra- als auch international wechseln. Die Programmplanung, Angebotskonzeption und die Ansprache von AdressatInnen von Weiterbildungseinrichtungen den Bedarfen der sich im Wandlungsprozess befindlichen Bevolkerungsstruktur angepasst werden. Dazu erscheint es sinnvoll, zunachst die gegenwartigen Lebenslagen und Bedurfnisse insbesondere derjenigen AdressatInnengruppen zu explorieren, die aktuell noch nicht (ausreichend) von Weiterbildungsangeboten erreicht werden. Auch wenn die Datenlage in Bezug auf die Teilnahme von Deutschen mit Migrationshintergrund an Weiterbildungsangeboten insgesamt sehr defizitar ist (vgl. Ozturk 2009, S. 24), lasst sich doch feststellen, dass aktuell grose Teile der Deutschen, fur die dieser sogenannte Migrationshintergrund festgestellt werden kann, nicht ausreichend mit den vorhandenen Angeboten erreicht werden. Dies gilt insbesondere fur die weiblichen Personen in dieser Gruppe, die – vor allem bezogen auf die betriebliche Weiterbildung – doppelt benachteiligt sind (vgl. Frey 2011, S. 2). Es lasst sich daher mit Tietgens (1978), der sich damals mit der schlecht zu erreichenden Zielgruppe der Industriearbeiter auseinandersetzte, heute aktuell die Frage stellen: „Warum kommen wenig Frauen mit Migrationshintergrund in die Volkshochschule?“.

In German-speaking countries, the theoretical discussion on literacy work is characterised far more by a focus on deficits than is the Anglo-Saxon debate. This article narrows this theoretical gap by adopting Barton & Hamilton's ethnographic research approach to local literacies for an empirical investigation into literacy practices. The project presented here studies how and why reading and writing are used, based on a district of Hamburg. As well as observations of writing in public spaces, there are also interviews and discussions with multipliers. The investigation creates a theoretical framework for literacy work based on people's life-world; a type of work which has long been on the agenda in practice. "Literalität als soziale Praxis - ein Stadtteil unter der Lupe. Erhebung zu soziokulturellen und subjektiven Sichtweisen auf Literalität" lautet der Titel eines Hamburger Forschungsvorhabens1, dessen Ansatz der vorliegende Beitrag vorstellt. Ausgehend von der Relevanz des Lebensweltbezugs für gelingendes Lernen wird im Rahmen einer ethnographischen Studie in einem repräsentativen Stadtteil erforscht, welche Bedeutung Literalität als soziale Praxis hat, das heißt, wie und wofür Lesen und Schreiben genutzt werden. Die Autorinnen versprechen sich von dem Ansatz einen Abschied von der Defizitorientierung in der Alphabetisierungs- und Grundbildungsarbeit, der in der Praxis oft schon erfolgt ist, aber von der Theorie bisher nicht hinreichend mitvollzogen wurde.

RESUMO O Circovírus suíno-2 (Porcine circovirus type 2 – PCV-2) é um vírus não envelopado, apresenta simetria icosaédrica e mede de 15 a 17 nm de diâmetro. É o menor vírus animal descrito e está relacionado a várias síndromes que acometem suínos, responsável por perdas econômicas nas granjas. A alta variabilidade da região do genoma que codifica as proteínas estruturais associada às co-infecções, dificulta o seu diagnóstico e sua prevenção. ABSTRACT Porcine circovirus-2 (PCV-2) is an icosahedric nonenveloped virus with a diameter of from 15 to 17 nm. It is the smallest animal virus and is associated with many swine syndromes, responsible for economic losses for pig farms. The high variability of the enconding genes for the structural proteins associated with the co-infections makes the diagnosis and prevention of this virus more difficult.
