Magnetically induced heterogeneous catalysis has been attracting attention due to its high energy efficiency and flexibility for dynamic reactor control. Iron wool is a commercial, low-cost, and versatile heating agent, which has been used in several magnetic catalysis studies, but its heating properties have never been investigated. Here, the properties of three types of Fe wool were studied using optical and electronic microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and measurements of both heating power and high-frequency hysteresis loops. The effects of strand width, packing, and magnetic field amplitude and frequency were studied. A maximum specific absorption rate (SAR) around 700 W/g under a rms field of 47.4 mT at 93 kHz was measured for the larger width Fe wool. High-frequency hysteresis loops were used to quantify the contribution of hysteresis losses and eddy currents to total heating. Eddy currents contribute 65%–90% to the global heating depending on the strand width. Coating the wool with SiO2 and Ni has negative effects on the SAR but none on hysteresis losses. It is interpreted as originating from the cut-off of inter-wire eddy currents due to the insulating (SiO2, oxidized Ni) nature of the coating. Last, it was found that adding more Fe wool in a given volume mostly decreases the SAR. This effect could be not only due to the absorption and/or screening of the field by surface strands but also due to magnetic interactions. This study investigates the effects of Zn substitution on the magnetic properties of ∼5 nm cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (ZnxCo1−xFe2O4, where x = 0, 0.13, 0.34, and 0.55), demonstrating that Zn substitution induces complex changes in spin canting and prompts a redistribution of cations among the sublattices. We reconstructed the magnetic structure of these spinel ferrites by integrating the classical two-sublattice Néel model of ferrimagnetism with the data obtained from 57Fe Mössbauer spectrometry. Consequently, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of how Zn substitution tunes the magnetic properties of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles, offering valuable insights into the development of magnetic materials with tailored properties for various applications. In this study, the excellent Y2−xNdxFe17 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) magnetic particles were prepared by the reduction–diffusion process. Through the ferromagnetic coupling between light rare earth element Nd and Fe atoms, we effectively modulated the magnetic crystallographic anisotropy of Y2Fe17. As the amount of Nd doping increases, the natural resonance frequency of Y2−xNdxFe17/PU increases to 15.7 GHz, the saturation magnetization increases to 120.43 emu/g, the Curie temperature increases to 390 K, and the average hyperfine field also increases to 22.5 T. We study the impedance behavior of two ferrofluids, of a similar magnetic material, one constituted by spherical nanoparticles and the other constituted by cubes, both suspended in kerosene. The ferrofluid constituted by cubic nanoparticles has 10% doping of a rare earth ion. The samples were inserted between two parallel disk-like electrodes of area S = 2.3 c m 2 made of surgical steel, separated by d = 127 μ m. The impedance was measured by applying a sinusoidal voltage of amplitude V 0 = 30 mV, from 1 mHz to 100 kHz. To analyze the experimental data, we use a model based on the Poisson–Nernst–Planck equations, with Ohmic boundary conditions. In the analysis, we assume that the ferrofluids contain free ions, originated from the manufacturing process, released by the stabilization layer around the magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in kerosene. The corresponding nanoparticles are charged of opposite signs with respect to these free ions. In the high frequency region, the effective diffusion coefficient coincides with that from the free diffusion coefficients, defined as the mathematical average between the diffusion coefficients of the nanoparticles and the free ions. In the low frequency region, we found the ambipolar diffusion coefficient, defined as their harmonic average. The effect of the electrodes is taken into account by means of surface conductivity to describe the conduction current across the electrode, assumed to be proportional to the surface electric field. In this model, the role of the electrodes is important just in the low frequency region. On the contrary, in the high frequency region, where the electric current is dominated by the displacement current, the role of the electrodes is negligible. The results show that the nanoparticles of the magnetic material have no effects on the higher-frequency range of the impedance spectra. In the low frequency region, our results indicate a difference in the electric response of the two ferrofluids. Due to their similar dimensions and, hence, similar ambipolar diffusion coefficients, we impute the observed different behavior to the charge transfer from the bulk to the external circuit included in the surface conductivity. Controlling magnon transport processes is critical for developing innovative magnonic devices used in data processing and thermal management applications in microelectronics. The spin ladder compound S r 14 C u 24 O 41 with large magnon thermal conductivity offers a valuable platform for investigating magnon transport. However, there are limited studies on enhancing its magnon thermal conductivity. Herein, we report the modification of magnon thermal transport through partial substitution of strontium with yttrium (Y) in both polycrystalline and single crystalline S r 14 − x Y x C u 24 O 41. At room temperature, the lightly Y-doped polycrystalline sample exhibits 430% enhancement in thermal conductivity compared to the undoped sample. This large enhancement can be attributed to reduced magnon-hole scattering, as confirmed by the Seebeck coefficient measurement. Further increasing the doping level results in negligible change and eventually suppression of magnon thermal transport due to increased magnon-defect and magnon-hole scattering. By minimizing defect and boundary scattering, the single crystal sample with x = 2 demonstrates a further enhanced room-temperature magnon thermal conductivity of 19 W m − 1 K − 1 , which is more than ten times larger than that of the undoped polycrystalline material. Magnetic materials with high negative spin polarization have been sought as a building block to increase the design freedom and performance of spintronics devices. In this paper, we investigate negative spin polarization of Mn2VGa Heusler alloy in current-perpendicular-to-plane giant magnetoresistance (CPP-GMR) devices. We fabricated an epitaxial CPP-GMR stack consisting of Mn2VGa/Ag/CoFe with L21 ordering in the Mn2VGa layer and observed negative magnetoresistance (MR), which provided evidence of negative spin polarization. The MR ratio depended on thermal treatments (deposition at an elevated temperature and post-annealing), because these processes affected the ordering, roughness, and magnetic properties of Mn2VGa. The maximum MR ratio reached −1.8% at room temperature and −3.0% at low temperatures, representing the highest among the negative MR values in pseudo-spin-valve CPP-GMR devices despite the underestimation due to an incomplete antiparallel magnetization configuration. The advancement of magnetic materials with coupled magneto-structural phase transition (MST) to fulfill the ultimate objectives of practical solid-state cooling applications requires a better understanding of the hysteresis phenomenon linked across the phase transition region along with the large magnetocaloric parameters. For the present sample Mn0.65Ni0.65Fe0.70Si, the MST is associated with a sharp jump in magnetization along with a small thermal hysteresis of ∼13 K. A giant isothermal magnetic entropy change (| Δ S M max |) of ∼37.6 J kg−1 K−1 at 299 K and effective refrigerant capacity (R C effe ) of ∼214.3 J kg−1 under ΔH = 30 kOe is obtained with excellent compatibility between the martensite and austenite phases. The geometrical compatibility condition, i.e., very small (∼0.55%) deviation of the middle eigenvalue (λ 2) from unity justifies the observation of small hysteresis in the present material. The investigation of hysteresis behavior under different extents of the driving forces (temperature or magnetic field) reveals that both the driving forces trigger equally the phase transition and are responsible equivalently for the hysteresis phenomenon. The present study provides a pathway to understand the complexity of the hysteresis behavior, its impact on the reversibility of magnetocaloric effect, and its minimization by optimizing the geometrical compatibility condition between the austenite and martensite phases. In this paper, an ultra-thin metamaterial absorber (UMA) in the S-band is designed. The overall structure adopts a three-layer design. The top layer is a magnetic material, and the middle layer of the UMA is composed of a centrally symmetrical open square ring (four edges are opened) and a circular pattern placed at the center, which is etched on the FR4 dielectric substrate by printed circuit board technology. The absorptivity of the absorber is more than 90% in 1.73–4.04 GHz under normal incidence, and the fractional bandwidth is 80.1%. The total thickness of the absorber is about 3.4 mm, corresponding to 0.02 λ L at the lowest operating frequency. Moreover, it also has good polarization insensitivity and wide-angle incident characteristics. The absorption mechanism of the UMA is analyzed from the aspects of power loss density and surface current. Finally, a sample was fabricated and measured. Magnetic refrigeration technology is regarded as one of the ideal solutions for cryogenic refrigeration, while magnetocaloric materials are the crucial ones. A series of polycrystalline RE2Ti2O7 (RE = Gd, Tb, and Ho) compounds were prepared by a simple one-step solid-phase reaction method in the atmosphere. The crystal structure, magnetic properties, and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of these compounds were systematically investigated. Crystallographic research indicates that these compounds crystallized in a pyrochlore structure. Meanwhile, magnetic measurements illustrate that this class of pyrochlore oxides is highly frustrated magnetic materials and exhibits complex magnetic behavior. In addition, under the field change of 0–1 T, the values of the maximum magnetic entropy change (− Δ S M max ) and the refrigeration capacity are calculated to be 0.9 and 5.8 J/kg for Gd2Ti2O7, 9.0 and 32.9 J/kg for Tb2Ti2O7, 9.9 and 29.9 J/kg for Ho2Ti2O7, respectively. Therefore, RE2Ti2O7 (RE = Tb and Ho) pyrochlores exhibit excellent MCEs under low magnetic fields, providing candidate materials for the application of cryogenic magnetic refrigeration technology. When polarized light is incident on a magnetic material, the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) rotates the polarization and induces ellipticity in the reflected light, which allows the magnetization direction to be probed optically. The Kerr rotation and ellipticity determine the magnitude of the effect and are usually measured using dedicated ellipsometers. Here, we demonstrate a simple method for extracting Kerr rotation and ellipticity in magnetic thin films using a conventional MOKE magnetometer consisting of two polarizers and a quarter waveplate. Using this technique, we report the longitudinal Kerr angle of BiYIG, GdCo, and TbCo. We additionally observe a linear decrease in polar complex Kerr angle magnitude in 3 nm GdCo films as the atomic fraction of Gd is increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-dimensional magnetic materials have been increasingly studied and discussed in the field of spintronics due to their unique electronic properties, high spin polarizability, and a variety of magnetic properties. In this paper, we report a new two-dimensional bilayer hexagonal monolayer material bilayer hexagonal structure (BHS)-CrN2 by first-principles calculations. The BHS-CrN2 nanosheet is an intrinsic ferromagnetic semiconductor material, and the Curie temperature obtained by Monte Carlo simulation is 343 K. The absence of a significant imaginary frequency in the phonon spectrum indicates the dynamic stability of BHS-CrN2. After ab initio molecular dynamics simulation, the supercell of BHS-CrN2 remains a complete structure, indicating its thermal stability. The calculated elastic moduli satisfy the Born–Huang criterion, indicating that the BHS-CrN2 system has good mechanical stability. Interestingly, the compressive strain and O atom doping can transform the electronic structure of BHS-CrN2 from a semiconductor to a half-metal, and the Curie temperature of BHS-CrN2 can be further increased to 1059 K when a 5% tensile strain is applied. Furthermore, the BHS-CrN2 in the ferromagnetic state shows a significant in-plane magnetic anisotropy energy of 0.01 meV per Cr, and the CrP2 and CrAs2 show a large out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy energy of 0.207 and 0.988 meV per Cr, respectively. The results show that the intrinsic ferromagnetic semiconductor BHS-CrN2 has good stability, high Curie temperature, and tunable magnetic properties, which is a promising material for room-temperature spintronic devices. Here, BaFe1−xMnxO3−δ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) and BaFe1−xMnxO2.9−δF0.1 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3), belonging to 6H-type BaFeO3−δ, are prepared and investigated to evaluate the impact of F− doping. A numerical model for a spin wave delay-line active ring resonator is presented. Spin wave dynamics along a one-dimensional strip of magnetic material are modeled using the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The equation is solved numerically in Fourier space using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method and yields qualitative agreement with experimental measurements of spin wave dynamics in two different regimes. Spintronic terahertz (THz) emitters have been shown to be a cost-efficient source for use in time-domain THz spectroscopy. The use of external magnetic fields to control the polarity of the THz emission provides an opportunity to measure the magnetization of spintronic materials as well as shaping THz emission. Here, we demonstrate an efficient method of measuring magnetic hysteresis with material sensitivity and speed several orders of magnitude greater than typical magnetometry methods. In addition, we utilize the rapid control of material magnetization for lock-in detection in time-domain THz spectroscopy of spintronic emitters. The ability to rapidly control and measure the material magnetization on very small volumes provides an opportunity to study magnetic hetero-structures with sub-micron spatial resolution. In this paper, an ultra-thin absorber with a total thickness of 9.2 mm is designed and verified at the frequency band of 1–5.34 GHz. The absorber is composed of a layer of metasurface, multi-layered magnetic substrate, a layer of fragmented magnetic structure obtained by improved MOEA/D-GO (Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm based on Decomposition combined with Enhanced Genetic Operators), and a copper back plate. The absorber is achieved by two steps. First, we designed and measured an ultra-thin absorber at 0.78–2.04 GHz by adding a layer metasurface onto the top of a basic multi-layer absorber composed of magnetic materials. The fractional bandwidth (FBW) of the absorber is 89.4%, and the electrical thickness is only 0.024 λ 0 at the lowest operating frequency. Second, to broaden the bandwidth, we use an improved MOEA/D-GO to optimize one magnetic layer of the absorber. The working frequency band of the optimized absorber is 1–5.34 GHz, covering L- (1–2 GHz), S- (2–4 GHz), and partial C-bands (4–8 GHz). Furthermore, we modified the structure of the metasurface to make the absorber polarization-independent. The FBW of the final absorber is 136.4%, and the electrical thickness is 0.031 λ 0 at the lowest operating frequency. The prototype of the absorber is measured, and the experimental results agree well with the simulated performance. The results show that the improved MOEA/D-GO can be used to design and optimize sophisticated electromagnetic (EM) structures with the predesigned properties, and the absorber with ultrathin thickness and light weight verified in this paper have great application potentials in EM compatibility, EM shielding, and radar cross section reduction at the low bands of the microwave spectrum. Magnetic semiconducting materials offer tremendous prospects for spin electronics but is challenging to achieve room-temperature ferromagnetism with unambiguous origin. Herein, a non-stoichiometry strategy is proposed to induce tunable magnetization in MoSe2−x nanoflowers via vacancy-controlled 2H–1T phase transition. The resultant MoSe2−x exhibits robust room-temperature ferromagnetism with significant positive correlation to the content of 1T phase and 2H–1T interfaces. Significant magnetic hysteresis and Curie transition above room temperature have been achieved, confirming the ferromagnetic feature of MoSe2−x. To examine the origin of ferromagnetism, formation energy and spin-polarized calculations have been conducted, indicating that the Se vacancy is beneficial for the formation of the 1T phase and interfacial spin polarization. Localized magnetic moments induced at the 2H–1T interfaces exhibit enhanced magnetism as compared to the net moments from the 1T orbital splitting, giving rise to strong coupling bound magnetic polarons. This work not only advances the understanding on the origin of magnetism in magnetic semiconductors, but also provides an effective route to generate ferromagnetism by defect and/or interface engineering that could be applied to multiferroics, spintronics, and valleytronics. Understanding the magnetic states and their dynamics in patterned ferromagnetic materials is of great importance for ultrahigh-density recording from the viewpoints of both fundamental research and practical applications. However, reliable access to magnetization dynamics in magnetic materials and devices on the technologically highly relevant terahertz range remains challenging. Currently, there is a lack of reports on terahertz magnetic susceptibility. Here, through micromagnetic simulations, we study the dynamics of pyramid-shaped, isolated magnetic nanodots and their arrays made of L10-FePt with high magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Numerical results reveal a significant magnetic response of isolated pyramid nanodots in the terahertz range. Specifically, two resonant modes, namely, a bulk mode and an edge mode, have been identified. For the lateral size above ∼100 nm, the nanodot's bulk mode splits and higher-order modes appear. Furthermore, the calculated spatial Fourier amplitude of resonant modes of nanopyramid arrays exhibits the dependence of lateral size and inter-dot spacing. This Tutorial article focuses on magnetic phenomena and material systems that have gained significant importance since the original development of mumax3, but are challenging to simulate for users who rely solely on the originally provided examples. Alongside the physical background, we provide hands-on examples of advanced magnetic systems, including detailed explanations of complete mumax3 input files (13 in total, often showing different ways to achieve things), and highlighting potential pitfalls where applicable. Specifically, we explore two approaches to incorporate spin–orbit torques in mumax simulations, considering the trade-off between versatility and speed. We also examine complex multilayer material stacks, including synthetic antiferromagnets, demonstrating different implementation methods that again vary in speed, versatility, and realism. A key criterion for selecting the optimal simulation strategy is its suitability for modeling systems where the magnetization varies significantly in the third dimension. The material covered in this Tutorial paper includes content developed for the mumax3 workshop presented during the summer of 2020 within the context of the IEEE online spintronics seminar, along with additional new topics. Due to the magnetostriction effect, a magnetic material changes its dimensions when it is magnetized. In this work, we show how in a magnetostrictive bilayer structure comprising two materials with magnetostriction constants of opposite signs, the magnetic switching is affected by magnetoelastic coupling. While the layer with positive magnetostriction tries to elongate in the direction of the applied magnetic field, the layer with negative magnetostriction tries to contract. In the studied bilayers, the mechanical influence of each magnetostrictive layer on the other is of the opposite sign because of their opposite magnetostrictive constants. Since magnetoelasticity is not an interfacial interaction but an intrinsic property of magnetic materials, the mechanical strain promoted by the applied magnetic field affects the layers as a whole. The net effect is a simultaneous reversal of magnetization of the two layers regardless of their thicknesses. This behavior has been studied in bilayers with different thickness ratios comprising Ni90Fe10, negative magnetostriction and Fe70Ga30, positive magnetostriction. These results demonstrate the possibility of using this physical mechanism to beat the critical limit thickness imposed by interfacial interactions in magnetically coupled multilayers in such a way that the magnetization reversal is made in unison regardless of the layer thickness. In this work, Er5Si3B0.5 compound with the Mn5Si3-type hexagonal structure was synthesized, and the structure, magnetic properties, and the magnetocaloric effect were investigated theoretically and experimentally. The magnetic measurement results show a complex successive magnetic transition below T N. However, the magnetization of the Er5Si3B0.5 compound below T N is saturated under lower magnetic field relative to the Er5Si3 compound. Theoretical calculation indicates that this was attributed to the enhanced inter-orbital exchange interaction after doping B element. The complicated successive magnetic transitions contribute to the table-like magnetocaloric effect observed in the Er5Si3B0.5 compound with a wide temperature region. The maximum magnetic entropy change and the temperature averaged entropy change (30) are 10.1 and 9.02 J/kg K for the Er5Si3B0.5 compound under varying magnetic fields from 0 to 5 T, respectively. The temperature averaged entropy change (30) is reduced by just 11% compared to the maximum magnetic entropy change. While presenting an ideal magnetic refrigeration material with a large table-like magnetocaloric effect for hydrogen liquefaction, our work also demonstrates the feasibility of regulating magnetic behavior through enhanced orbital exchange interactions to develop magnetic refrigeration materials with outstanding performance. Altermagnets, an emerging class of magnetic materials distinguished by a significant non-relativistic spin splitting band structure but zero net macroscopic magnetization, have recently received considerable attention. Here, we present a theoretical study focusing on the orientation-dependent conductance induced by Andreev reflection (AR) at an altermagnet/altermagnet/superconductor junction. Conventional and equal-spin AR processes occur when the Néel vector directions of the AMs are non-collinear and controllable by the altermagnet's orientation θ and Néel vector direction α. The conductance spectra resemble ferromagnet/ferromagnet/superconductor junctions with parallel or antiparallel magnetization configurations, depending on θ and α. Both the anisotropic altermagnetic state and the equal-spin AR signature can be probed by studying conductance spectra. Magnetic materials featuring triangular arrangements of spins are frequently investigated as platforms hosting magnetic frustration. Hexagonal perovskites with ordered vacancies serve as excellent candidates for two‐dimensional triangular magnetism due to the considerable separation of the magnetic planes. In this work, the effects of chemical pressure on the ferromagnetic ground state of Ba2La2NiW2O12 by substitution of Ba2+ with Sr2+ to produce Sr2La2NiW2O12 are investigated. The two materials are characterized using synchrotron‐based XRD, XANES and EXAFS in addition to magnetometry in order to correlate their crystal structures and magnetic properties. Both materials form in space group R3, yet as a result of the enhanced bending of key bond angles due to the effects of chemical pressure, the TC value of the magnetic Ni2+ sublattice is reduced from ∼6 K in Ba2La2NiW2O12 to 4 K in Sr2La2NiW2O12. The magnetic structure adopted by a material relies on symmetry, the hierarchy of exchange interactions between magnetic ions and local anisotropy. A direct pathway to control the magnetic interactions is to enforce dimensionality within the material, from zero‐dimensional isolated magnetic ions, one‐dimensional (1D) spin‐chains, two‐dimensional (2D) layers to three‐dimensional (3D) order. Being able to design a material with a specific dimensionality for the phenomena of interest is non‐trivial. While many advances have been made in the area of inorganic magnetic materials, organic compounds offer distinct and potentially more fertile ground for material design. In particular magnetic metal–organic frameworks (mMOFs) combine magnetism with non‐magnetic property functionality on the organic linkers within the structural framework, which can further be tuned with mild perturbations of pressure and field to induce phase transitions. Here, it is examined how neutron scattering measurements on mMOFs can be used to directly determine the magnetic structure when the magnetic ions are in a 2D layered environment within the wider 3D crystalline framework. The hydrated formate, in deuterated form, Co(DCOO)2·2D2O, which was one of the first magnetic MOFs to be investigated with neutron diffraction, is reinvestigated as an exemplar case. Magneto‐ionics, as the electrochemical reconfiguration of magnetic materials at low gating voltages, is a highly energy‐efficient alternative to control magnetism. For the fastest magneto‐ionic concept based on hydrogen, fundamental mechanisms are currently under debate, mainly because quantitative compositional information inside the magnetic materials upon gating is lacking. Using the electrochemical hydrogen loading of Co/Pd multilayers with perpendicular anisotropy, this study demonstrates that the hydrogen concentration inside the magnetic material determines its magnetic properties. Hydrogen concentrations up to a maximum of (0.24 ± 0.01) hydrogen atoms per metal atom can be set deterministically by voltage and are quantified via flow‐cell coulometry. With increasing hydrogen concentration, a continuous increase in coercivity of up to 15% and a decrease in magnetic domain‐wall velocity by an order of magnitude are observed using in situ MOKE microscopy. This enables the voltage‐controlled stop‐and‐go of domain walls. These magneto‐ionic effects can be explained by an increasing perpendicular anisotropy with increasing hydrogen content in Co/Pd multilayers, which is supported by theory. Importantly, the approach should be transferable to other ionic systems, such as lithium‐ or oxygen‐based ones, where it can uncover the yet hidden effects of ionic concentration on the magnetic properties and guide the design of functional magneto‐ionic devices. In this paper, a ferrite-filled rectangular waveguide as a balanced composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line is considered. Based on the surface current density of dominant mode, a centerline longitudinal slot on the broad wall of this ferrite-filled rectangular waveguide can be radiate to the free space as a leaky-wave antenna (LWA). This proposed LWA has the both capability of the fixed-bias frequency scanning and fixed-frequency bias scanning from negative to positive angles. However, the gain of the centerline slotted ferrite-filled rectangular waveguide antenna is not acceptable. Photocatalysts that combine with dielectric and magnetic properties are vital because of a wide variety of applications for these combinations, and nanostructured magnetic semiconductive materials have attracted significant interest due to their potential applications. A series of Cd 0.4 Co 0.6 Dy X Ce X Fe 2-2X O 4 spinel nano ferrites (nFs) were synthesized by using a highly efficient low-temperature method of citrate sol-gel auto-combustion for Methylene Blue (MB) dye degradation photocatalysts under visible light irradiation that combines with dielectric and magnetic properties are vital because of a wide variety of applications for these combinations, and nanostructured magnetic semiconductive materials have attracted significant interest due to their potential applications. The recycled MB is one of the hazardous textile dyes that is used extensively but causes risks for both humans and the environment. The prepared Dy3+ and Ce3+ doped Cd–Co nFs were polycrystalline with cubic structure, and crystalline size was increased from 15.78 to 21.02 nm with higher crystallinity, and the surface morphology changes from a spherical shape to a hexagonal shape with higher doping concentrations. The direct optical band gap values are increased. FTIR spectra reveal the stretching vibrations along the [M↔O] bond tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites. HRTEM results revealed that the prepared Cd–Co nFs have higher crystalline nature and high porosity. VSM indicates the sample's soft magnetic action and hysteresis loops showed the highest saturation magnetization (Ms) is 12.243 emu/g, and retentivity increases around 6.038 emu/g, decreasing the dielectric tangent loss, dielectric constant and dielectric loss. High pressure torsion (HPT) is presented as a new fabrication route to produce bulk Sm–Co magnets with a strongly refined microstructure down to the nanometer regime. The initial powders, based on the compositions SmCo5, Sm2Co7 and Sm2Co17, are compacted and subsequently deformed by HPT. The microstructural evolution in dependence on the applied deformation parameters is characterized by electron microscopy and the effect of HPT on the phase stability is monitored by synchrotron X‐ray diffraction. An increasing amount of applied strain leads to a stronger reduction in grain size while strain localization counteracts a homogeneous microstructural refinement. The positive effect of elevated deformation temperatures is demonstrated for Sm2Co17, which promotes homogeneous grain refinement, but causes strain‐induced phase transformations at the same time, strongly affecting the magnetic behavior. Superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry is used to characterize the magnetic properties after HPT deformation, which indicates the formation of a magnetic texture depending on the respective phase. Two-dimensional (2D) half-metallic magnets are expected to achieve breakthroughs in the field of spintronics and quantum computation due to their 100% spin polarization and non-dissipative ballistic transport characteristics. However, the current availability of practical applications for these materials is limited. In this paper, a new 2D material NiVS6As2 is predicted based on density functional theory (DFT). It has a ferromagnetic ground state with a high Curie temperature, TC = 150 K and half-semi-metal (HSM) band structure protected by a structural symmetry degeneracy point on the Fermi surface, which can be controlled by an electric field and strain. When an out-of-plane electric field is applied, NiVS6As2 shows a Chern insulator with a quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect. Developing and investigating advanced multifunctional materials with magnetic properties as candidates for assembling spin qubits for quantum computing is imperative. A new polytopic ligand based on oxamate and aniline was used to promote the synthesis of three neutral homometallic lanthanide-coordinated polymers. New complexes with the formula {Ln(phox)3(DMSO)2(H2O)}n, where Ln = Eu3+ (1), Gd3+ (2), and Tb3+ (3) [phox = N-(phenyl)oxamate and DMSO = dimethylsulfoxide], were synthesized and well characterized by spectroscopic methods as well as X-ray crystallographic analysis. All crystalline structures comprise neutral zigzag chains. The lanthanide ions are linked by three phox ligands, in which two oxygen atoms from two different ligands are responsible for connecting the trivalent lanthanide ions, and one phox ligand completes the coordination sphere in a bis-bidentate mode, together with two DMSO molecules and one water coordination molecule. The coordination sphere of lanthanide ions consisted of spherical capped square antiprism (CSAPR-9) symmetry. The magnetic properties of 1–3 were investigated in the 2–300 K temperature range. The dynamic (ac) magnetic properties of 2 reveal a frequency dependence involving the phonon bottleneck mechanism below 33 K under nonzero applied dc magnetic fields, resulting in an example of a field-induced single-molecule magnet. Solid-state photophysical measurements for Eu3+ (1) and Tb3+ (3) complexes indicate that the N-(phenyl)oxamate ligands are very efficient in sensitizing the lanthanide(III) ions in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Compounds 1 and 3 exhibited an emission in the red and green regions, respectively. Experimental results and theoretical calculations using the Sparkle/RM1 method support a quantum efficiency of ∼72% for 1, suggesting its potential as a candidate for light conversion molecular devices (LCMDs). Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) magnets have sparked widespread attention due to their potential in spintronic applications as well as in fundamental physics. Ferromagnetic vdW compound Fe3GeTe2 (FGT) and its Ga variants have garnered significant interest due to their itinerant magnetism, correlated states, and high magnetic transition temperature. Experimental studies have demonstrated the tunability of FGT's Curie temperature, TC, through adjustments in quintuple layer numbers (QL) and carrier concentrations, n. However, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. In this study, we employ molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to synthesize 2D FGT films down to 1 QL with precise layer control, facilitating an exploration of the band structure and the evolution of itinerant carrier density. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) reveals significant band structure changes at the ultra-thin limit, while first-principles calculations elucidate the band evolution from 1 QL to bulk, largely governed by interlayer coupling. Additionally, we find that n is intrinsically linked to the number of QL and temperature, with a critical value triggering the magnetic phase transition. 2D magnetic materials with distinct mechanical properties are of great importance for flexible spintronics. However, synthesizing 2D magnets with atomic thickness is challenging and their mechanical properties remain largely unexplored. Here, the growth of a ferrimagnetic 2D Cr9Se13 with anomalous elasticity is reported by an aged‐precursor‐assisted method. The obtained 2D Cr9Se13 exhibits an out‐of‐plane ferrimagnetic order with a coercivity larger than those of conventional magnetic materials. Noteworthy, it presents decent breaking strength and a Young's modulus of 52 ± 8 GPa that is among the smallest of the 2D family. This exceptional elasticity is attributed to the unique internal voids in Cr9Se13, as evidenced by the formed edge dislocations under strain. This work not only offers a facile method to synthesize 2D magnets but also develops avenues for obtaining 2D materials with desired mechanical properties, paving the way for future flexible spintronics. Magnetocaloric materials have the ability to undergo temperature changes when subjected to varying magnetic fields. These materials are of interest due to their potential for innovative cooling applications. This review article summarizes materials that exhibit magnetic ordering within the temperature range required for gas liquefaction and explores their potential applications through the magnetocaloric effect (MCE). The gas liquefaction temperature range is typically assumed to be 20–77 K, however, this study specifically summarizes materials that have a transition temperature near to the hydrogen liquefaction temperature (≈20K). This review article aims to showcase ongoing research on magnetic materials for hydrogen liquefaction. Driven by the depletion of natural resources and environmental concerns, the search for environmentally sustainable fuels has intensified, making hydrogen a promising alternative. However, the liquefaction of hydrogen is highly energy‐intensive. The investigation focuses on identifying and understanding these materials and assessing their suitability for environmentally friendly and sustainable cooling technologies. By harnessing the magnetocaloric effect, these materials exhibit temperature changes in response to an applied magnetic field, offering advantages over traditional cooling methods that are 20–50% more efficient. The review aims to furnish researchers with essential information that can help modify magnetocaloric effect (MCE) materials, enabling them to achieve the desired magnetic ordering temperature conducive to the liquefaction of hydrogen. In the 5G era, Barium ferrite (BaFe12O19) has a pivotal position in both fundamental research and frontier applications, such as magnetic recording, microwave absorption, and 2D spintronic devices. Currently, BaFe12O19 is hard to achieve a desirable broadband microwave absorption (MA) because of the underutilized magnetic property limited by Snoek limit, though some efforts have been made by improving the dielectric property to enhance microwave attenuation. The structural design of high anisotropy is deemed an efficient strategy to break the intrinsic Snoek limit of BaFe12O19. The high‐anisotropy 2D nanosheets and 1D nanotubes via ordered growth and assembly can elevate magnetic properties and resonance response. Such optimized spatial structure arrangement can realize ultrawide effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) up to 8.7 and 3.0 GHz, respectively, superior to 0 GHz for conventional BaFe12O19 powders. The morphologies and microstructures of BaFe12O19 effectively trigger shape and magnetic anisotropy, which not only breaks the intrinsic Snoek limit to induce magnetic loss‐dominated MA mechanism, but also promotes dielectric‐magnetic cooperative loss via improved magnetoelectric mutual inductance effect in 1D/2D structures. These results allow for the management of magnetic properties and controllable structural designs of BaFe12O19, providing a reliable means toward ultra‐convenient preparation of high‐anisotropy magnetic materials for more frontier applications. AbstractIn this work, a new method is proposed to utilize a magnetic filter material to suppress the escape of fugitive particles in the iron and steel industry. The magnetic filter material was prepared using the impregnation method, exhibiting superior demagnetization resistance. The magnetic field effect generated by magnetic filter material was combined with the diffusion, interception, and inertial effects of traditional filtration mechanisms to enhance the removal of fugitive particles. The magnetic polyimide filter material improves the filtration efficiency of particles with a diameter less than 2.0 μm by approximately 20% compared with polyimide filter materials. In addition, the filtration performance was further enhanced through electrostatic agglomeration. When the positive electrode voltage is +18 kV, and the negative electrode voltage is −16 kV, after the bipolar pre-charging treatment of fugitive particles with a diameter of 0.1–1.0 μm, the magnetic polyimide filter material can achieve a filtration efficiency of more than 90%, the magnetic polyimide (P84), magnetic polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), and magnetic fiberglass filter materials all achieve a filtration efficiency of over 94% with a diameter of 0.5–1.0 μm. Highlights Magnetic elastomer composites are extending the field of soft robotics by integrating the flexibility of elastomers with the versatile performance of magnetic materials. In this work, a series of magnetic elastomers (BaCoxTixFe12–2xO19/PDMS) with tunable magnetic response have been successfully synthesized. In this composite, the magnetic component consists of Co‐Ti co‐doped barium hexaferrite (BaCoxTixFe12–2xO19, BCTF) nano powders, and the matrix is made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The coercivity (Hc) of BCTF can be reduced from 3950 Oe to 70 Oe, which bestow on the magnetic elastomer different magnetic response behavior. These magnetic elastomer composites obtained by blending have low Young's modulus, approximately 1.5 MPa. Furthermore, when applying the same external magnetic field, BaCo1.2Ti1.2Fe9.6O19/PDMS the magnetic deformation Angle can be as high as 60°. These magnetic elastomers exhibit different magnetic‐induced deformation owing to the adjustable permeability of the magnetic nanoparticles. This research significantly advances the design of applications with specific magnetic characteristics, such as sensors and transducers, thus opening new horizons for innovation in soft robotics and related fields. All elastomer composite exhibit a low modulus of approximately 1.5 MPa. These composites exhibit different magnetic response behaviors. Fabrication of architected materials through self‐assembly of units offers many advantages over monolithic solids including recyclability, reconfigurability, self‐healing, and diversity of emergent properties – all prescribed chiefly by the choice of the building blocks. While self‐assembly is prevalent in biosynthesis, it remains challenging to recapitulate it macroscopically. Recent success in the self‐assembly of 2D ordered open magneto‐elastic lattices from centimeter‐long bar units with sticky magnetic ends, showcasing graceful failure at “magnetic bonds” and re‐assembly under extreme loading. However, it is still unclear how this approach can be generalized to design units that preferably form ordered low‐energy structures with desirable mechanical properties such as ductility, auxetics, and impact resistance. Here, diverse ordered 2D lattice structures are predicted as the self‐assembly outcomes from units with 2 (bar), 3 (Y‐shape), and 4 (cross) branches with magnetic ends. The defect formation is significantly reduced by a computational design approach. Tunable mechanical behavior is shown to be achieved by varying unit shapes and magnet orientations. Cross‐shaped units are identified for their promise in auxetic response and penetration resistance with these findings validated through experiments. Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials show potential for the advancement of high-density, energy-efficient electronic and spintronic applications in future memory and computation. Here, by using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we predict a new 2D Janus nitride MXene MnCrNO2 monolayer. Our results suggest that the optimized MnCrNO2 monolayer possesses a hexagonal structure and exhibits good dynamical stability. The intrinsic monolayer MnCrNO2 exhibits semiconductive properties and adopts a ferromagnetic ground state with an out-of-plane easy axis. It can sustain strain effects within a wide range of strains from −10% to +8%, as indicated by the phonon dispersion spectra. Under the biaxial tensile strain, a remarkable decrease in the bandgap of the MnCrNO2 is induced, which is attributed to the distinct roles played by Mn and Cr in the VBM or CBM bands. Furthermore, when the compressive strain reaches approximately −8%, the magnetic anisotropy undergoes a transition from an out-of-plane easy axis to an in-plane easy axis. This change is mainly influenced by the efficient hybridization of the d orbitals, particularly in Mn atoms. Our study of the Janus MXene MnCrNO2 monolayer indicates its potential as a promising candidate for innovative electronic and spintronic devices; this potential is expected to create interest in its synthesis. To improve the homogeneity of heating, the magnetic absorbing material Fe3O4 is considered to use in microwave pyrolysis of oily sludge. Therefore, the effect of Fe3O4 on the microwave pyrolysis of oily sludge is investigated based on gas volatile products. Thermogravimetric mass spectrometry result certifies that Fe3O4 will increase the weight-loss ratio from 13.0% to 14.1%. Also, the characteristic peak intensity of CO in gas products decreases from 5.41 × 10−10 A/g to 1.95 × 10−10 A/g, while H2O increases from 3.57 × 10−10 A/g to 7.32 × 10−10 A/g and CO2 increases from 6.87 × 10−10 A/g to 8.92 × 10−10 A/g. This is caused by the esterification of alcohols and esters and the reduction of Fe3O4 by CO. Based on the decrease in activation energy and enthalpy values of Stage II and IV, it infers that Fe3O4 catalyzes the pyrolysis process of oily sludge to some extent. Similarly, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry results show that Fe3O4 can make the types of gas products increase. Especially, the number of molecular species increases from 5 to 46 under 200–300 °C. Finally, a simple molecular dynamics simulation model is conducted, and the results are in agreement with the experimental results. Air pollution and greenhouse emissions are significant problems across various sectors, urging the need for advanced technologies to detect and capture harmful gases. In recent years, two‐dimensional (2D) materials have attracted increasing attention due to their large surface‐to‐volume ratio and reactivity. Herein, we investigate the potential of single‐layer CrSBr for gas sensing and capturing by means of first‐principles calculations. We explore the adsorption behaviour of different pollutant gases (H2S, NH3, NO, NO2, CO and CO2) on this 2D ferromagnet and the impact of intrinsic defects on its magnetic properties. Interestingly, we find that Br vacancies enhance the adsorption of NH3, NO and NO2 and induce a selective frequency shift on the magnon dispersion. Chiral spin textures, as exotic phases in magnetic materials, hold immense promise for revolutionizing logic, and memory applications. Recently, chiral spin textures have been observed in centrosymmetric magnetic insulators (FMI), due to an interfacial Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (iDMI). However, the source and origin of this iDMI remain enigmatic in magnetic insulator systems. Here, the source and origin of the iDMI in Pt/Y3Fe5O12 (YIG)/substrate structures are deeply delved by examining the spin‐Hall topological Hall effect (SH‐THE), an indication of chiral spin textures formed due to an iDMI. Through carefully modifying the interfacial chemical composition of Pt/YIG/substrate with a nonmagnetic Al3+ doping, the obvious dependence of SH‐THE on the interfacial chemical composition for both the heavy metal (HM)/FMI and FMI/substrate interfaces is observed. The results reveal that both interfaces contribute to the strength of the iDMI, and the iDMI arises due to strong spin−orbit coupling and inversion symmetry breaking at both interfaces in HM/FMI/substrate. Importantly, it is shown that nonmagnetic substitution and interface engineering can significantly tune the SH‐THE and iDMI in ferrimagnetic iron garnets. The approach offers a viable route to tailor the iDMI and associated chiral spin textures in low‐damping insulating magnetic oxides, thus advancing the field of spintronics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The vast high entropy alloy (HEA) composition space is promising for discovery of new material phases with unique properties. This study explores the potential to achieve rare‐earth‐free high magnetic anisotropy materials in single‐phase HEA thin films. Thin films of FeCoNiMnCu sputtered on thermally oxidized Si/SiO2 substrates at room temperature are magnetically soft, with a coercivity on the order of 10 Oe. After post‐deposition rapid thermal annealing (RTA), the films exhibit a single face‐centered‐cubic phase, with an almost 40‐fold increase in coercivity. Inclusion of 50 at.% Pt in the film leads to ordering of a single L10 high entropy intermetallic phase after RTA, along with high magnetic anisotropy and 3 orders of magnitude coercivity increase. Highlights A high filling load (62% weight) printable magnetic composite has been elaborated from the dispersion of magnetocaloric Ni45Mn36.7In13.3Co5 metamagnetic shape memory alloy microparticles into a PCL polymer matrix. The composite material has been prepared by solution method, resulting in a very homogeneous particles dispersion into the matrix. The structural transitions in the polymer are not affected by the addition of the metallic microparticles, which in turn results in a significant increase of the mechanical consistency. The good ductility of the elaborated composite allows its extrusion in flexible printable filaments, from which 3D pieces with complex geometries have been grown. The heat transfer of the composite material has been assessed from finite element simulation. In spite of the achievable magnetocaloric values are moderated with respect to the bulk, numerical simulations confirm that, in terms of heat transference, a PCL/Ni‐Mn‐In‐Co wire is more efficient than a bulk Ni‐Mn‐In‐Co cubic piece containing the same amount of magnetic active material. The quite good magnetocaloric response of the composite and the possibility to print high surface/volume ratio geometries make this material a promising candidate for the development of heat exchangers for clean and efficient magnetic refrigeration applications. 3D printable magnetic composites developed from dispersion of MSMA in PCL. 2D magnetic materials with high spin polarization and Curie temperature are highly desirable for ultrathin spintronic devices. This study utilizes first‐principles methods to systematically investigate 225 O adsorption configurations, demonstrating that Cr2COx MXene consistently maintains a long‐range‐ordered ferromagnetic arrangement with high spin polarization, irrespective of the O adsorption configuration. Most configurations also display Curie temperature (TC) exceeding room temperature, with the possibility of further enhancement by reducing O coverage. Machine learning models are developed to accurately predict O adsorption configurations, exchange interaction energies, and TC. A novel approach of stripping F and OH groups to create Cr2COx on Cr‐based MXene surfaces is proposed to address the difficulty in achieving long‐range‐ordered magnetic structures by manipulating surface adsorbates in MXene. Advancements and utilization of magnetic refrigeration technology hinge on the ongoing enhancement and optimization of magnetic refrigeration material properties. Nevertheless, the intricacy of the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) mechanism has emerged as a bottleneck, constraining the progress and refinement of magnetic refrigeration materials. In this study, a classic magnetic system is chosen to investigate the mechanism of MCE across four different scales–macroscopic magnetism, micrometer‐scale magnetic domains, atomic magnetic moments, and electronic structure. It simultaneously exhibits two inverse MCEs and one direct MCE, with a working temperature span as wide as 125 K (most are <50 K) for the direct MCE. The measurements of the vibrating sample magnetometer, in situ Lorentz electron microscopy and variable‐temperature neutron powder diffraction directly reveal that the complex magnetic entropy changes arise from the magnetic domain wall pinning, the instability of Ho magnetic moments, and the spin rotation. First‐principles calculations elucidate the crucial role of strong hybridization between localized Ho and itinerant Co electrons in the spin reorientation of HoCo4Al. This study contributes significantly to comprehending the induction mechanism of the MCE and holds vital reference value for exploring new magnetic refrigeration materials and enhancing MCE performance. Gauge theories are powerful theoretical physics tools that allow complex phenomena to be reduced to simple principles and are used in both high-energy and condensed matter physics. In the latter context, gauge theories are becoming increasingly popular for capturing the intricate spin correlations in spin liquids, exotic states of matter in which the dynamics of quantum spins never ceases, even at absolute zero temperature. We consider a spin system on a three-dimensional pyrochlore lattice where emergent gauge fields not only describe the spin liquid behavior at zero temperature but crucially determine the system's temperature evolution, with distinct gauge fields giving rise to different spin liquid phases in separate temperature regimes. Focusing first on classical spins, in an intermediate temperature regime, the system shows an unusual coexistence of emergent vector and tensor gauge fields where the former is known from classical spin ice systems while the latter has been associated with fractonic quasiparticles, a peculiar type of excitation with restricted mobility. Upon cooling, the system transitions into a low-temperature phase where an entropic selection mechanism depopulates the degrees of freedom associated with the tensor gauge field, rendering the system spin-ice-like. We further provide numerical evidence that in the corresponding quantum model, a spin liquid with coexisting vector and tensor gauge fields has a finite window of stability in the parameter space of spin interactions down to zero temperature. The capability of bis(dioxolene) ligands to access multiple redox states makes them ideal candidates to tune the electronic properties of metal complexes, for example to achieve valence tautomerism (VT). In this study, a family of dinuclear cobalt complexes have been isolated with the bridging bis(dioxolene) thean− ligand in the cat2−‐cat2−, cat2−‐SQ⋅− and SQ⋅−‐SQ⋅− states (cat2−=catecholate, SQ⋅−=semiquinonate): [{CoIII(tpa)}2(theacat−cat)](PF6)2 (1), [{CoIII(tpa)}2(theacat−SQ)](PF6)3 (2), and [{CoIII(tpa)}2(theaSQ−SQ)](PF6)4 (3) (theaH4=2,3,6,7‐tetrahydroxy‐9,10‐dimethyl‐9,10‐dihydro‐9,10‐ethanoanthracene, tpa=tris(2‐pyridylmethyl)amine). Multi‐technique analysis confirms that 1, 2 and 3 adopt low spin‐CoIII containing {CoIII‐cat‐cat‐CoIII}, {CoIII‐cat‐SQ‐CoIII} and {CoIII‐SQ‐SQ‐CoIII} states, respectively. Compound 1 undergoes thermally‐induced {CoIII‐cat‐cat‐CoIII} ⇌ {CoIII‐cat‐SQ‐CoII} VT in the solid‐ and solution‐states above 300 K, involving high spin‐CoII. This interconversion is contrary to expectations, as tpa typically stabilizes low spin‐CoIII‐catecholate. Compound 2 is mixed‐valence class II/II–III, indicating a localized electronic structure, with electron transfer faster than the EPR and solvent rearrangement timescales, but slower than the infrared timescale. Compound 3 exhibits strong antiferromagnetic exchange. The overlap between the dioxolene π‐orbitals in thean− increases the accessibility of the cat2−‐SQ⋅− state, resulting in VT for 1. This study demonstrates that thean− can be isolated in multiple oxidation states in metal complexes, which is promising for applications in magnetic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The combination of spin crossover (SCO) with chirality has caught increasing research interest owing to its potential applications in the fields of multifunctional magnetic molecular materials and devices. In this work, we synthesized a pair of homochiral Co(II) SCO complexes and their racemic complex by applying chiral Schiff base terimine ligands modified by naphthyl group. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction results showed that the chiral ligands retained chirality after coordination with Co(II) ion, giving rise to a pair of enantiomeric Co(II) complexes in the RR and SS configurations, respectively. The circular dichroism spectroscopy demonstrated the enantiomeric nature of the homochiral complexes. The enantiomers exhibited similar thermally induced SCO, while the racemate was trapped in the high spin state. The differences in SCO behavior between the homochiral and racemic complexes are attributed to different supramolecular interactions. This work provides a feasible approach to constructing new chiral SCO materials and offers perspectives in developing switchable nonlinear optical magnetic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
