The article presents economic updates of the U.S., as of March 25, 1897. The Dingley tax on books and instruments for libraries and colleges, along with the renewed tax on art, shows the U.S. how much the Republican party really cares for the intelligence of the nation to which it so earnestly appealed in the last campaign. Another update tells that in many respects the Dingley tariff bill is the most extreme protection measure ever laid before the U.S. Congress. In professing to restore McKinley tariff, the rates of the law of 1890, and asking credit because of the moderation of the plan, the great change in the economic situation of products has been ignored.
