During the 2019 Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill (Anti-ELAB) protest, Hong Kong protesters invented, adapted, and deployed a variety of decentralized grassroots tactics of resistance. While understudied, the proliferation of protest zines during the Anti-ELAB movement contributed to an affective community among movement supporters and protesters, allowing them to engage in self- and communal care as they resisted state violence. We argue that protest zines foregrounded a grassroots community of care that encourages political change in the following ways: expand the emotional habitus among protesters and movement supporters to accommodate debilitating bad feelings; promote self-care and embodied emotional reflection as a form of resistance against state violence; contribute to voluntary kinship among protesters beyond the state-sanctioned nuclear family model; and articulate nuclear familial relations as a site of political resistance. By examining how protest zines articulate voluntary kinship among movement supporters, we illustrate how the zines challenge dominant paternalistic institutions to reimagine a more open political future. The Samson Press, founded in 1930 by Flora Grierson and J.M. Shelmerdine, was a private press that printed various items such as Christmas cards, postcards, calendars, and bookplates. It was associated with the Scottish Renaissance movement and was one of the few presses operated by women. The press aimed to cater to a niche market while embodying the artistic ethos of the Arts and Crafts movement. It faced challenges during wartime restrictions on paper use and was destroyed by fire in 1936, resulting in the loss of many copies of their publications. COVID-19 poses significant risks to global education. It has shifted traditional learning in the classroom to remote learning at home. The Department of Education initiated a continuity plan in the Philippines that applies a remote learning approach. In remote learning, parents became active participants by being solid scaffolds for their children's learning at home. Through a phenomenological design, the study explored the lived experiences of parents during the pandemic times. The data was gathered through one-on-one interviews with each of the six parent participants, with strict observance of basic IATF protocols like mask-wearing and social distancing. The collected responses were transcribed, examined, coded, and broken down into themes. After data analysis, three significant themes emerged: the description of parents' experiences in scaffolding their children's remote learning, the help extended by the parents to minimize academic stress, and the effects of remote learning on their children's education. The analyzed data revealed that parents became successful scaffolders amid the struggles and lack thereof. Furthermore, parents realized that, while remote learning may not be the best option for their children due to demotivation in learning, it is one way to keep their children safe while learning. Based on the findings, significant measures may be adopted by the Department of Education, teachers, parents, and future researchers, particularly in enhancing modules and learning environments that are more learner-centered. Objectives. To characterize COVID-19 vaccine uptake and hesitancy among US nurses. Methods. We surveyed nurses in 3 national cohorts during spring 2021. Participants who indicated that they did not plan to receive or were unsure whether they planned to receive the vaccine were considered vaccine hesitant. Results. Among 32 426 female current and former nurses, 93% had been or planned to be vaccinated. After adjustment for age, race/ethnicity, and occupational variables, vaccine hesitancy was associated with lower education, living in the South, and working in a group care or home health setting. Those who experienced COVID-19 deaths and those reporting personal or household vulnerability to COVID-19 were less likely to be hesitant. Having contracted COVID-19 doubled the risk of vaccine hesitancy (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.85, 2.53). Reasons for hesitancy that were common among nurses who did not plan to receive the vaccine were religion/ethics, belief that the vaccine was ineffective, and lack of concern about COVID-19; those who were unsure often cited concerns regarding side effects or medical reasons or reported that they had had COVID-19. Conclusions. Vaccine hesitancy was unusual and stemmed from specific concerns. Public Health Implications. Targeted messaging and outreach might reduce vaccine hesitancy.
