Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) are main treatment methods for uremic patients. It remains an important content of clinical research on better developing treatment protocols to address overhydration (OH) in dialysis patients, and the effect of applying body composition monitor (BCM) on the prognosis of dialysis patients treated with different dialysis models is still controversial. Objective To explore the relationship between OH parameters of BCM and prognosis in patients treated with MHD and PD. Methods From October 2017 to March 2022, 334 patients on maintenance dialysis in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical Medical University, Beijing Boai Hospital, Aviation General Hospital, Beijing Changping District Hospital and Beijing Changping Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine were included as the study objects and divided into MHD group (n=188) and PD group (n=146) according to their renal replacement therapy mode. The general data of and BCM related parameters were collected through the electronic medical record system. Patients included in the study were followed up, dialysis treatment parameters, body weight, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were recorded, and the average of multiple follow-up results were calculated. Endpoint events were recorded during follow-up period, with the primary endpoint event as all-cause death (ACM), secondary endpoint events as cardiovascular events (CVE), combined adverse events (CAE), surgery or fracture (SOF). Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between endpoint events and BCM parameters, and stepwise multiple Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of secondary endpoint events in patients. The ACM survival curve was plotted by Kaplan-Meier method, and the difference of survival curve between the two groups was compared by Log-rank test. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of ACM. Results A total of 311 patients completed follow-up, with a median follow-up time of 29.9 (18.0, 36.0) months, including 176 patients in MHD group and 135 patients in PD group. More empirical evidence is needed to answer the question of in what way a family's socioeconomic status (SES) affects student academic achievement, so this study explores the mediating role of cultural capital (CC) in the relationship between SES and student achievement, using the latest approach to testing mediating effects. The data sets from 14 economies in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2009 were analysed. In general, the results supported the mediation effects of CC, and the mean of ratios of mediation effects to total effects was 23%. For the three frequently used indices of SES, parents' occupations and education levels had larger impacts on student literacies than did family wealth possession. For most economies, objectified cultural capital (OCC) can explain the effects of all three SES indices on student literacies, but embodied cultural capital (ECC) can only explain the effects of parents' occupations and education levels on student literacies. Whether for reading literacy, science literacy or mathematics literacy, CC theory is applicable in most economies. However, the mediating effects on reading and science literacies were higher than those on mathematics literacy. For different economies, the explanatory power of CC theory was also different.

A direct selenylation of N‐arylsulfonamides and anilides using environmentally friendly and readily available copper promoted assisted by amide is presented. This method provided convenient access for various selenylation reactions, demonstrating a wide range of substrates and strong tolerance to various functional groups. According to the selection of reaction substrates, products can be isolated to obtain a regioselectivity ortho‐, para‐, or unprecedented ortho, para‐diselenylation products. The lattice structure was prepared by selective laser melting of 316L metal powder, and the epoxy was naturally infiltrated into the pores of the 316L metallic lattice structure. The epoxy/316L metallic lattice composites with integrated structure and function were prepared. Scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the microstructure of the epoxy/316L metallic lattice composites. The damping performance of the epoxy/316L metallic lattice composites were studied by modal measurement method. At the same time, the engineering stress–strain curve was obtained by a quasi-static compression experiment on a universal testing machine. The results show that the interface of epoxy and 316L metallic lattice is well bonded, and there are a few bubbles in the epoxy. The epoxy/316L metallic lattice composites have high damping characteristics with damping ratio over 10%. The energy absorption of epoxy/316L metallic lattice composites is as high as 68.32 MJ/m3, showing high energy absorption characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Bioimpedance analysis (BIA) has been reported as helpful in identifying hypervolemia. Observation data showed that hypervolemic maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients identified using BIA methods have higher mortality risk. However, it is not known if BIA-guided fluid management can improve MHD patients’ survival. The objectives of the BOCOMO study are to evaluate the outcome of BIA guided fluid management compared with standard care. Methods This is a multicenter, prospective, randomized, controlled trial. More than 1300 participants from 16 clinical sites will be included in the study. The enrolment period will last 6 months, and minimum length of follow-up will be 36 months. MHD patients aged between 18 years and 80 years who have been on MHD for at least 3 months and meet eligibility criteria will be invited to participate in the study. Participants will be randomized to BIA arm or control arm in a 1:1 ratio. A portable whole body bioimpedance spectroscopy device (BCM—Fresenius Medical Care D GmbH) will be used for BIA measurement at baseline for both arms of the study. In the BIA arm, additional BCM measurements will be performed every 2 months. The primary intent-to-treat analysis will compare outcomes for a composite endpoint of death, acute myocardial infarction, stroke or incident peripheral arterial occlusive disease between groups. Secondary endpoints will include left ventricular wall thickness, blood pressure, medications, and incidence and length of hospitalization. Discussions Previous results regarding the benefit of strict fluid control are conflicting due to small sample sizes and unstable dry weight estimating methods. To our knowledge this is the first large-scale, multicentre, prospective, randomized controlled trial to assess whether BIS-guided volume management improves outcomes of MHD patients. The endpoints of the BOCOMO study are of utmost importance to health care providers. In order to obtain that aim, the study was designed with very careful important considerations related to the endpoints, sample size, inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria and so on. For example, annual mortality of Beijing MHD patients was around 10%. To reach statistical significance, the sample size will be very large. By using composite endpoint, the sample size becomes reasonable and feasible. Limiting inclusion to patients with urine volume less than 800 ml/day the day before dialysis session will limit confounding due to residual renal function effects on the measured parameters. Patients who had received BIS measurement within 3 months prior to enrolment are excluded as data from such measurements might lead to protocol violation. Although not all patients enrolled will be incident patients, we will record the vintage of dialysis in the multivariable analysis. Trial registration Current Controlled Trials NCT01509937

High-quality genomic DNA extraction is fundamental for the study of gene cloning and expression in plants. Therefore, this study evaluated several methods for extracting genomic DNA from shoots of four Dendrocalamus species to determine the optimal technique. Genomic DNA was extracted using three different methods: a commercial DNA extraction kit method, a modified cetyltrimethylammonium bromide method and a sodium dodecyl sulfate method. A membership function analysis was employed to compare these methods. The results demonstrated that the commercial DNA extraction kit method was the most effective and comprehensive approach for extracting genomic DNA from shoots of four Dendrocalamus species. Furthermore, this study provided valuable insights into optimizing techniques for extracting genomic DNA in other bamboo species.
