Only little is known about the Coronavirus disease at the start of its discovery. Viral outbreaks occurred from one place to another, which facilitated a rapid transmission of the infection resulting in a pandemic. This public health emergency prompted scientists to start formulating vaccines that are very effective as a preventive intervention against the spread of the coronavirus disease. However, the evident worldwide uncertainty towards vaccines proved to be a key challenge toward a successful COVID-19 vaccine uptake. This study evaluates various vaccination-related factors that are highly significant in recognizing the facets that affect the public’s awareness and willingness toward COVID-19 vaccination. Using a purposive sampling approach, a quantitative descriptive-correlational study was conducted among third-year medical technology students for the academic year 2021-2022 from a higher education institution in Manila. Cochran’s Formula generated a sample size of 93, but for data saturation, 96 participants were included in the study. A descriptive statistical test, Spearman’s rank-order correlation, and Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test was applied to display the distribution and variability of responses, the correlation of the awareness of the participants on COVID-19 vaccine availability and their willingness to vaccination, and the measurement of reliability and consistency of the responses. The results showed that the participants had a high level of awareness regarding the COVID-19 vaccination since most of the participants answered the fact-based questions correctly. Various factors that affect the willingness of the participants are also extensively assessed. The results showed that most participants are still willing to get vaccinated regardless of the factors that influence their decision. Filipino Medical Technology students encountered challenges with the Enriched Virtual Mode during the COVID-19 pandemic. This phenomenological study followed purposive sampling in selecting twelve (12) Filipino Medical Technology students from a higher-education institution engaged in Enriched Virtual Mode. They answered online forms and participated in a semi-structured one-on-one interview. Recorded interviews were transcribed, read and re-read by the researchers. Colaizzi’s method was applied to obtain the essence of the phenomenon under investigation and through this, researchers were able to analyze 83,543 words from data collection. Significant statements and their condensed meanings were arranged into codes and themes. A repertory grid was also utilized to facilitate cool and warm analyses. This resulted into the emergence of five (5) interesting typologies of challenges experienced by respondents: Balancing feelings of isolation and need for participation, Balancing quantity and quality of submissions, Balancing time and demands, Balancing connection and disconnection and Balancing wellness and workload. These challenges are overcome through coping mechanisms which include: Interaction and Engagement, Determination and Commitment, Prioritization and Time Management, Communication and Discernment and Relaxation and Enjoyment. In the fight against COVID-19, healthcare workers experience the fear of the unpredictable and unknown. Motivation is the person's drive and the amount of energy he exerts toward his actions to achieve his goals. Several theories and models have been used to determine one’s source of motivation. The main purpose of this phenomenological study is to determine the motivation of Filipino registered medical technologists to work amidst the pandemic. The respondents were 13 Filipino registered medical technologists currently working during the pandemic who have at least 3 years of working experience. The content of each interview was transcribed and subjected to phenomenological reduction which revealed 4 values that contributed most to their motivation. The Value for Experience deals with their desire for achievement, advancement, and growth. The Value for Relationship helps them bear the struggles they face as a unit. The Value for Family gives them support even if they are away from home. Lastly, the Value for Profession as they took an oath to serve and help the community. The findings of the study may have a contribution in the creation of policies and guidelines to maintain or increase the motivation of Filipino healthcare workers.
