At the beginning of 1937 the Young People of the Association Catholic Action created a new weekly magazine for boys called «Il Vittorioso», intended mainly for those italian adolescents who didn’t read other magazines which were openly in favour of fascism such as «Il Balilla» nor the debatable comics of American origin such as «L’Avventuroso», «L’Audace» o «Topolino» («Mickey Mouse») accused of inciting violence. «Il Vittorioso» found a place in the press of the fascist period with a certain continuity comparable with the best tradition of Italian children’s magazines such as «Corriere dei Piccoli», but also contained aspects which broke with tradition. The choice to publish many comics by exclusively Italian authors was farsighted because «Il Vittorioso» gave birth to an experimental laboratory for comics with young writers such as Gian Luigi Bonelli, Benito Jacovitti and Lino Landolfi who could write and draw in an original way for young people and were able to interpret their basic cultural needs. The language used could appeal to a fascist mentality by playing on the different meanings of certain terms. «Il Vittorioso» was well able to interpret the changes taking place in communication and these were more and more influenced by and modelled on the widespread popularity of the cinema, but they were also affected by the brief and direct structures of speech of the futurist movement. While these changes in communication were accepted as being useful for propaganda by fascism, they also found a place in an educational project grounded in the Catholic tradition of good press as an aspect of the social teaching of the Church.

Laurie Anderson's versions of Massenet / Corneille, Melville's Moby Dick, and Döblin / Fassbinder Laurie Anderson’s performances sample elements from various components of cultural performance such as theater, ritual, dance, music, popular entertainment and sport (!), which she meshes with autobiographical references, everyday life events and media culture. This also includes the ancient art of story telling and works of literature, which she brilliantly adapts, transforms and reconfigures in order to build into her intelligent and idiosyncratic performance art. How can we account for these pre-texts and how important are they for an understanding of Anderson’s multimedia performances which thus concern adapting a highly complex intersection of narrative, visual, musical and gestural ‘pre-texts’ mediated by new technologies and the performing arts? Such an undertaking would seem to call for a theorizing the performative effect of the intermedial processes involved in adaptation. What needs to be explored is, I suggest, is • What do issues of intertextuality mean to performance and visuality studies? How does the sense of openness and of unraveling the pre-ext translate into the adaptation that a performance involves? • What is at stake when this performance not only clearly alludes to other performances but also intermedially to other media and intertextually to other texts? • What is the relationship between performance and performativity in multimedia art forms? What new spaces are created? These issues are explored in Laurie Anderson’s multilayered multimedia performances O Superman (Corneille /Massenet), Songs and Stories from Moby Dick (Melville/the Bible/Shakespeare), and White Lily (Döblin/Fassbinder).

Seit August 2009 werden im Kanton Thurgau die Schulerinnen und Schuler ab der 3. Primarklasse in Englisch als erste Fremdsprache unterrichtet. Der Unterricht richtet sich nach dem „Lehrplan Englisch Primarstufe“ der EDK Ost (2007). Im Sommer 2013 trat die erste Kohorte von Schulerinnen und Schulern in die Sekundarstufe I uber, die in der Primarschule in Englisch unterrichtet wurde. Mit Fokus auf diese erste Kohorte evaluierte die Forschungsabteilung der PHTG im Auftrag des Amtes fur Volksschule den Englischunterricht auf der Primarstufe des Kantons Thurgau. Anhand einer geschichteten Zufallsstichprobe1 wurde untersucht, inwiefern die Schulerinnen und Schuler der 6. Klassen die im Lehrplan vorgegebenen grundlegenden und erweiterten Kompetenzniveaus erreichen. Weitere Fragestellungen betreffen das verwendete Lehrmittel „Young World“, den Stoffumfang, Merkmale des Unterrichts, die Schnittstelle zwischen der Primar- und der Sekundarstufe I und die Kurse zur Zusatzqualifizierung der Lehrpersonen. Ein Vergleich des Kompetenzniveaus der Schulerinnen und Schuler der 8. Klasse in Englisch mit und ohne Englischunterricht in der Primarschule ist fur ein Folgeprojekt geplant. Aus diesem Grund wurden im Fruhjahr 2013 parallel zu den 6. Klassen auch 8. Klassen getestet. Untersucht wurden diese Fragestellungen mittels schriftlicher Befragungen von Englischlehrpersonen und Schulerinnen und Schulern der Primar- und Sekundarstufe, Leistungstests und Fokusgruppeninterviews mit Englischlehrpersonen der Primarschule, Schulleitungspersonen und Eltern. Englischunterricht auf der Primarstufe erfahrt bei allen Befragten eine ausgesprochen hohe Akzeptanz. Mindestens die gemass Lehrplan fur die Primarstufe grundlegenden Lernziele werden gegen Ende der 6. Klasse je nach Kompetenzbereich von 50 bis 85 Prozent der Schulerinnen und Schuler erreicht. Ende der 8. Klasse Sek G erreichen je nach Kompetenzbereich 33 bis 90 Prozent der Lernenden, in den 8. Klassen Sek E 68 bis 97 Prozent die als grundl
