Abstract

Various fundamental characteristics of Y2O3 ceramics, such as optical transmittance, reflectivity, absorption coefficient, refractive index, and dielectric constant, were investigated. Furthermore, in order to evaluate the possible application of this material as γ-ray scintillator, other radiation responses, like the α-ray excited emission spectrum, the γ-ray excited pulse height spectrum, the light yield, the nonproportionality, the energy resolution, and the γ-ray excited scintillation decay curves were obtained. The light yield of Y2O3 ceramics was evaluated in about 1.13 times higher than that of Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO):Ce single crystals and was estimated in 9300 photon/MeV. The nonproportionality measurements showed a good proportionality. The scintillation decay curve could be fitted by an exponential function characterized by a fast component of about 34 ns. Abstract

In this paper, advanced features of MIRRORCLE-CV4, the tabletop synchrotron are described. Extremely small emitter size in one micron order and continuous X-ray energy ranging from 8 KeV to MeV are the advantage in the phase contrast imaging, micrometer order space resolution, and tunability of X-ray energy for various specimens like biological specimen, animal, human body, or motor engine block etc. The machine size is only 2m × 0.5m like X-ray tube. Abstract

Abstract: Chemically stable and transparent K2NaLuF6 single crystals doped with Tm3+ ions were grown by the micro-pulling down method (μ-PD). X-ray diffraction measurements showed that the as-grown crystals possess cubic structure with Fm3m space group. The radio- and photo-luminescence spectra of the grown crystals were measured in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and ultraviolet (UV) regions. Tm:K2NaLuF6 showed high emission intensity at 188nm in the radio- and photo-luminescence spectra (λ exc =159nm). The decay time and light yield of Tm:K2NaLuF6 were also investigated by 241Am 5.5MeV α-ray irradiation. The main component of the decay time was a 4–8μs and this emission was considered as 5d–4f emission from 4f n −15d high-spin state (parity allowed and spin forbidden transition). In addition to this, the light yield of Tm-doped K2NaLuF6 single crystals systematically increased with increasing Tm concentration. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
