Microwave emissions due to hypervelocity impacts have been detected by heterodyne receivers in the ground experiments using an accelerator. It is aimed to establish the detection system of space debris impacts on a space structure via microwave. The emitted powers at the impact velocity of 10 km/sec are estimated from the characteristics at the experimental impact velocity. Considering the emitted power, the receiving antenna and the microwave frequency, the maximum distances for detecting the microwave emission are 1,032 m at 2 GHz band and 26 m at 22 GHz. The type and location of receiving antennas which can detect the impact on all habitation and experiment modules on the International Space Station are discussed. Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)(ISAS)), Sagamihara, Kanagawa Japan, Solar Power Satellite (SPS) which has been drawn attention as a future clean energy system remains many issues which should be studied. Construction of a large scale solar panel and transmitting antenna is one of the important subjects toward SPS. We are developing a flatness maintaining system, which utilizes a smart actuator system, of a large-scale panel antenna for SPS. We produced a carbon Nano-tube (CNT) actuator experimentally that is expected to be a light weight and an easy controllability, and carried out the basic experiments in order to evaluate characteristics and performance of the CNT actuators. The CNT actuator consists of CNT electrodes and a separator impregnated with ionic liquid. The CNT actuator works like a capacitor, so the deformation of the CNT actuator can be controlled electrically. We measured and evaluated the dependence of the deformation and the stress on the thickness of the actuators. Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)(ISAS)), Sagamihara, Kanagawa Japan, We are developing a breadboard model (BBM) for a wireless power transmission (WPT) space demonstration experiment using a small scientific satellite toward a solar power satellite (SPS). J-spacesystems and JAXA are proceeding with the ground-based WPT experiment. The WPT space demonstration experiment is planned as the next phase in the research road map toward the practical SPS. The purposes of the SPS small satellite experiments are to establish a precise directional control method from the orbit to the ground and to clarify the effect of the plasma in ionosphere on microwaves. The BBM that consists of microwave oscillator, amplifiers, the phase control system of radiation elements and phased-array antennas is used to evaluate a performance of the WPT mission instrument for the SPS small satellite. We carried out the microwave WPT experiment using the BBM and evaluated the accuracy of the beam directional control and the beam forming. This report presents evaluations of the effects of the phase errors in the microwave circuits of the BBM due to the individual difference and manufacturing error among the devices. The phase pattern of radiated microwave from the phased-array antenna is measured utilizing the near-field microwave measurement system. We evaluated non uniformity of the phase errors and adjusted the phase used by the digital phase shifter connected to each sub-array antenna element. Furthermore, the effect on the beam directivity characteristics is evaluated from the far-field radiation pattern. In addition, we discuss about the phase control and amplification circuit for the space demonstration using a small scientific satellite.
