Safflower plant (Carthamus tinctorius L.) has been reported to be effective for treating people with measles, hypertension, stomach ache, malaria and cholesterol issues. This study aims to assess specific and non-specific parameters of characteristics for the ethanol extract of C. tinctorius L. flowers and its antioxidant properties. The specific parameters include the extract’s organoleptic properties, while the non-specific parameters include the drying shrinkage, microbial contamination content, ash content, as well as the extract’s solubility in water and ethanol according to Materia Medica Indonesia and Pharmacopeia Herbal Indonesia. An antioxidant activity assay was performed using the DPPH method. According to the results, the deep red, viscous organoleptic extract had a distinctive odor, as well as an astringent or chelate taste, and an Rf value of 0.79. Furthermore, the extract contained 0.12% of water-soluble compounds, 0.22% ethanol-soluble compounds, and several phytochemical groups, including flavonoids, saponins, triterpenoids, tannins, quinones, and steroids. According to the non-specific parameters, the extracts demonstrated 1.02%, 0.2237%, 0.96%, 0.23%, and 0.91% for weight, acid-insoluble ash content, dry shrinkage, ash content, and water content, respectively. Meanwhile, the microbial contaminant load was ˂ 1.0 × 10-1 colony/mL, alongside ˂ 1.0 × 10-1 colony/mL of mold/yeast. The C. tinctorius L. ethanol extract was observed to show significant antioxidant activities, evidenced by an IC50 which measured 2.511ppm, based on DPPH analysis. A similar outcome was also reported for the ethanol flower extract, which was further determined to fulfil both non-specific and specific standardization parameters.

This study aims to introduce types of medicinal plants that can be used by families in rural communities and how to mix and process plants so that they can be used as family medicine. This research is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach method. Collecting data by conducting observations, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique went through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing (verification). Based on the results, it can be said that there are 8 species of plants that can be used by the people of Lamomea Village as family medicinal plants, the method of making family medicinal plants varies greatly, depending on the type of plant and disease.

Kanker Payudara merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang ada didunia. Penyakit ini sering diderita oleh wanita dan pria tetapi kemungkinannya sangat kecil. Penelusuran pustaka dilakukan menggunakan instrument pencarian pustaka berbasis online seperti NCBI-PubMed, Google Scholar, dan Elsevier dengan artikel berasal dari tahun 2014-2020. Hasil review yang didapat berdasarkan data epidemiologi pada tahun 2018 World Health Organization (WHO) mencatat bahwa kasus kanker payudara di Indonesia mencapai angka 348,809 dan dari kasus tersebut jumlah yang meninggal mencapai angka 207,210. American Cancer Society (2019) mengatakan bahwa sekitar 41.760 wanita dan 500 pria diperkirakan meninggal akibat kanker payudara pada tahun 2019. Berdasarkan estimasi International Agency for Research on Cancer, pada tahun 2020 akan ada 1,15 juta kasus kanker payudara dengan 411.000 kematian. Sebanyak 70% kasus baru dan 55% kematian diprediksi terjadi di negara berkembang. Kanker payudara biasanya dimulai dari hiperproliferasi ductus yang kemudian berkembang menjadi tumor jinak atau bahkan karsinoma metastasis setelah terus-menerus distimulasi oleh berbagai faktor karsinogenik. Ada banyak faktor risiko yang dapat memungkinan peningkatkan pertumbuhan kanker payudara seperti seks, penuaan, estrogen, riwayat keluarga, mutasi gen dan gaya hidup tidak sehat.

This study aims to determine the effect of adding gelatin as a binder to the granular formula containing theethanol extract of E. elatior. Formulation of tablet containing ethanol extract of E. elatior used wet granulation methodwith various concentration of gelatin as a binder, namely 5%, 7.5% and 10%. The granule mass evaluated included flowvelocity test, angle of repose and the tapped density, while the tablets were evaluaed for weight uniformity and sizeuniformity. The results of the evaluation of the granules have met the requirements except for the flow properties test.The granules were good and there was a significant effect on disintegration time and friability with addition of gelatinconcentration. The tablets fulfilled the evaluation test of weight uniformity and content uniformity.Keywords:Etlingera elatior, gelatin, tablet.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh penambahan gelatin sebagai pengikat pada formula granullyang mengandung ekstrak etanol E. elatior. Formulasi tablet ekstrak etanol E. elatior ini menggunakan metode granulasibasah dengan variasi konsentrasi gelatin sebagai pengikat yaitu 5%, 7.5% dan 10%. Massa granul yang dievaluasimeliputi ujikecepatan alir, sudut diam dan tapped density sedangkan tablet diuji evaluasi keseragaman bobot dankeseragaman ukuran. Hasil evaluasi granul memenuhi persyaratan kecuali pada uji sifat alir. Granul yang baik danterdapat pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap waktu hancur dan kerapuhan tablet dengan penambahan konsentrasigelatin. Tablet ekstrak etanol E. elatior memenuhi uji evaluasi keseragaman bobot dan keseragaman kandungan.Kata kunci: Etlingera elatior, gelatin, tablet.

Penelitian mengenai aktivitas antijamur dari tumbuhan ketepeng cina (Cassia alata L.) yang diketahui memiliki manfaat pengobatan sebagai antijamur telah dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan kimia ekstrak etanol daun ketepeng cina serta mengetahui aktivitas antifungi ekstrak etanol daun ketepeng cina terhadap Candida albicans, serta memformulasikan ekstrak etanol daun ketepeng cina dalam sediaan moutwash. Ekstrak ketepeng cina dibuat dengan metode maserasi menggunakan etanol. Uji stabilitas sediaan mouthwash dilakukan dengan cycling test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi ekstrak ketepeng cina 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm, 1000 ppm tidak meiliki aktivitas antifungi melainkan konsentrasi 5000 ppm yang merupakan larutan induk memiiki aktivtas antifungi dengan zona hambat 7 mm. Aktivitas antifungi tersebut dijadikan acuan formula sediaan. Hasil menunjukkan sediaan moutwash stabil secara fisik.Keywords: Ketepeng cina, mouthwash, Candida, antijamur

Isolasi dan penentuan struktur senyawa metabolit sekunder dari ekstrak metanol spons laut Clathria sp serta uji toksisitasnya terhadap larva udang Artemia salina Leach telah dilakukan. Tahapan isolasi dimulai dengan ekstraksi menggunakan teknik maserasi dengan pelarut metanol dilanjutkan, selanjutnya dilakukan pemisahan dengan teknik kromatografi, meliputi kromatografi kolom vakum (KKV), dan kromatografi radial (KR). Struktur senyawa hasil pemurnian dianalisis dengan metode spektroskopi menggunakan FTIR dan NMR-1D (1H dan 13C-NMR) serta dibandingkan dengan data sejenis dari literatur. Isolat diperoleh berupa padatan berwarna putih 3β-(hydroxymethyl)-A-nor-5α-cholest-l5-ene. Hasil uji toksisitas akut isolat terhadap larva A. salina menunjukkan isolat tidak bersifat toksik dengan nilai LC50 sebesar 497,58 ppmKata kunci: Clathria, spons, steroid, toksisitas, A. salina

Isolation and identification of secondary metabolite stem bark of Polygonum pulchrum and its antioxidant activity were done. Extraction was performed by maceration using methanol solvent. The separation and purification obtained by using vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC), radial chromatography (RC) and monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). Identification of isolated compounds determined by spectroscopy method i.e. FT-IR, 1D-NMR (1H, 13C-NMR and DEPT) and 2-D NMR (HMQC and HMBC). White solid compound was isolated and characterized as 5(E)-eicosenoic acid. Antioxidant was analyzed towards DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-picrilhydrazil).
