The article presents a case study of a 78-year-old woman initially suspected of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) based on morphological findings, but subsequent testing revealed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with dysplasia and a unique mutational profile. Topics include cytological features mimicking APL, challenges in subtype differentiation of AML, and the critical role of comprehensive molecular and cytogenetic testing for precise treatment decisions in hematologic cancers.
