This article examines the major transformation within the higher education sector, specifically the shift from traditional academia to neoliberal academia, with an emphasis on its impact on academics who entered the field in the 2000s. Many of these individuals may not fully recognise the extensive political and structural changes driven by neoliberalism over the past 2 decades. Published literature shows how the widespread adoption of managerialism in a neoliberal context—particularly in the Anglo-Saxon world—has markedly altered the academic landscape. This shift has led to the marketisation of education, characterised by increased student tuition fees, performance metrics and a change in academic values, including professional autonomy and academic freedom. The present article further explores how these alterations have affected the wellbeing of academics, particularly early- and mid-career scholars, by institutions prioritising economic efficiency over intellectual enquiry, increasing administrative workloads and promoting a consumerist model of education. Drawing on both evidence from the peer-reviewed literature and experiences, the implications of these changes for academic careers, job satisfaction and the broader mission of universities as centres of scholarship and public service are discussed. The article concludes with a call to action for academic leaders and policymakers to recognise and address challenges posed by neoliberalism and managerialism, emphasising the need to support and protect the core values of academia in the face of ongoing changes. Through multilevel regression analysis, we examine the impact of managerialism, particularly accreditation practices, on the increasing job insecurity in universities. We find that universities that are accredited, private, secular or non-Catholic are more likely to offer insecure jobs, but that the relevance of these factors depends on each country's academic tradition. Universities in the USA tend to offer more job security, whilst those in Chile are the only ones with a trend toward increasing the proportion of permanent positions. Accreditation is a good predictor of job insecurity in the USA, yet it is unrelated in Colombia and Germany, and it has an inverse effect in Chile. In the USA, we argue that accreditation serves as a conduit for managerial pressure, forcing universities to invest more in administrative bureaucracies to legitimise their academic quality, often at the expense of job stability. In Colombia and Germany, we argue that universities may hire administrators responsive to accrediting agencies that do not promote nor strengthen the academic profession. The concept of decoupling allows describing these countries' inverse relationship, or lack of direct relationship, between accreditation and job security. In contrast, Chilean universities show an integration between accreditation rituals and contracting practices aimed at job security. Whilst the extant literature on the publish-or-perish culture in the West is plentiful, there remains surprisingly little scholarship exploring the ways managerialist policies have become integral to local identities, work and life in Chinese universities. We address this gap by taking China's endeavour to become first in the global higher education field as an entry point and reflecting on our lived experiences as early career researchers (ECRs) in the form of a duoethnography. Our dialogues consider how, and with what effects, Chinese higher education privileges the notion of research excellence and works to construct professional identities. As grassroots ECRs epitomising a force to negotiate, challenge and resist the contemporary research order from below, we identify academic publishing as 'the best strategy' to get ahead in the academic game. Despite our compliance with the regime of new managerialism, our narratives also suggest that we are attempting to resist the drive for research productivity through envisaging a slower tempo in writing and aspiring for greater reflection. We provide readers with a range of individual- and collective-based strategies for being and progressing as grassroots ECRs, and implications for universities are also discussed at the end of the article. Purpose: The digitalisation of healthcare services has proven to be difficult, with numerous negative effects. We argue that the reason for the problem is not poor project management, but a clash of different institutional logics. The aim of this article is to explore, define and theorise the concept of digitalism, as a term for a new institutional logic in contrast to other, more known logics in organisations, such as managerialism and professionalism, to better understand processes of digitalisation. Design/methodology/approach: We illustrate our arguments with a case study of a process of organizational development before and after the implementation of centralised large-scale IT systems at a large Norwegian hospital. Data was extracted from documents and observations from January 2015 to January 2016 during an organizational audit. In addition, a follow-up study was conducted in 2019 and 2024 by interviewing eight key personnel who were involved in the implementation process. Findings: The implementation of a new digital health record in a Norwegian hospital is a process of social restructuring that involves new actors, logics and control systems. The process of digitalisation shows us how digitalism create tensions, diverges and merges with other institutional logics. Practical implications: Understanding digitalism as a sensitising concept offers insights into how large-scale technology and organizations are tied together and can help to reduce organizational dysfunctionalities and improve the implementation of IT systems. Originality/value: This study contributes to a new understanding of digitalisation processes and links an ongoing theoretical debate on the digitalisation of organizations with empirical findings. We examine two examples of managerialism, in a Church of England parish reorganization and in a hospice. After reflecting on New Testament management concepts, we analyse the negative consequences of managerialism in these examples and the regulatory changes that made it possible. The article ends by suggesting how trust lost through poor management could be rebuilt through a holistic pastoral sensitivity to the whole community served by the organization, including the staff. This article explores the dismantling of professional autonomy during a change management programme at a business school in the United Kingdom. The change programme proposed the disinvestment from research in Critical Management Studies (CMS) and Political Economy and resulted in compulsory redundancies. The study reconstructs the managerial processing of this 'case for change' with a particular focus on the mechanisms behind the dismantling of professional autonomy. Specifically, three mechanisms of degradation are highlighted: first, a managerial attitude of censorship and anti-intellectualism that serves to demean academic scholarship, second, the regulation of time, space and information that deprives academics of the means to defend themselves and, finally, the isolation of professionals and the creation of docile academic subjects. By focussing on the micro-physics of power and understanding the mundane processes through which it takes effect and circulates, the ways in which it routinely undermines the autonomy of those it wants out, the article offers further avenues to discuss ways to resist the dismantling of professional autonomy in the managerial university. Purpose: One of the most cited literature in SHRM is Schuler and Jackson's (1987) behavioural model. This model proposes that organisational performance is dependent on the extent to which HRM practices can be effectively connected to competitive strategy and desired employee behaviours. Importantly, this model recognises the salient role of employee behaviour in performance outcomes and, moreover that different competitive strategies imply both promulgation and reinforcement of different sets of employee skills and behaviours. Surprisingly, despite its significant influence on SHRM, studies rarely examine this model in its entirety. Motivated by the need to better understand this model's arguments in contemporary settings, our study uses a multi-actor design to explore the connections between competitive strategies (cost reduction and differentiation), employee behaviours, and HRM practices in service environments. Design/methodology/approach: Adopting a multi-level, multi-actor survey design, our exploratory deductive study assesses the utility of strategic HRM's (SHRM) behavioural model. Drawing on data from a sample of service organisations and using univariate analyses, we compare operationalised HRM practices and employee behaviours across different strategy types. Findings: Results lend provisional support for the behavioural model, particularly in the case of a differentiation strategy where notable differences in HRM practices and employee behaviours were observed. Findings suggest growing levels of memetic and competitive isomorphism may be occurring, with this likely attributable to the increased incidence of idea generation and information sharing about best practices occurring amongst practitioners, as well as a growing nuance in operating markets, managerial preferences, employee expectations, stakeholder objectives, and the like. Research limitations/implications: Our study suggests refinements to the behavioural model are needed. Some support for the model's key tenets is found, but these appear context specific. Thus, the merit in developing a priori typologies linking strategy type to HRM practices and employee behaviours where organisations operate in environments which are particularised and tumultuous appears debatable. Practical implications: This study highlights the behavioural model's nuance to modern service organisations and, by doing so, practitioners are provided with a behavioural pathway for achieving competitive advantage through their HRM practices. Findings also suggest that increasingly competitive environments might be encouraging practitioners to engage in isomorphic behaviours. Originality/value: The use of a comparative research design allowed our study to contribute much needed empiricism to the largely conceptually informed stylised typologies depicting the linkages between different competitive strategies, implied employee role behaviours and HRM practices, thereby supporting the need for model refinement. Where once relationships with service users was considered the bedrock of practice, social work has been shaped by bureaucracy and managerialism, with increased focused on risk management, control, fragmentation of services, standardisation and accountability. Employing reflexive thematic analysis, qualitative data from 16 interviews with frontline social workers in Northern Ireland was analysed through the four expressions of power framework to assess strategies used to subvert, challenge, and work within bureaucratic systems and managerialist forces to uphold the foundational principles of relationship-based practice. This conceptual study explores the dominant ideologies influencing the economic governance of higher education (HE) and shaping competition within the sector and among universities. It delineates and contrasts four key ideological positions – neoliberalism, managerialism, shareholderism, and stakeholderism – and outlines four corresponding types of university competition: signaling, intraorganizational, interorganizational, and priority competition. The paper contributes to the discourse on university competition as a macro trend in HE by examining its ideological underpinnings. Notably, it observes that real-life outcomes often diverge from the idealized visions these ideologies promote. The study concludes by illustrating how these four types of competition coexist in HE and discussing how shifts in coordination or decision-making mechanisms can influence which ideology gains prominence in shaping competition. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The current organizational environment, extreme competition, and rapid change in the working environment have increased the motivation of researchers to identify important variables that can help organizations to be competitive to overcome these challenges. Therefore, this article examines how immediate superiors use different managerial coaching, namely guidance coaching and facilitate coaching, to regulate the practice and behavior of employees. In addition, this study examines workplace motivation medium as the mediator of the relationship between managerial coaching and employees' expertise. METHODS: The cross-sectional research design was employed to collect data from 500 employees across various policy-making agencies in Malaysia. The sample size was determined using the Raosoft formula, and 473 employees were selected using this technique. SmartPLS software was used to evaluate the measurement and structural models. This software is capable of analyzing complex study models. FINDINGS: The results of mediating structural equation modeling show two findings. First, guidance indirectly relates to employees' expertise, mediated by workplace motivation (β=0.169; t=4.683; p=0.000). Second, facilitation coaching is indirectly associated with employees' expertise, mediated by workplace motivation (β=0.167; t=3.926; p=0.000). These findings report that a leader's ability to demonstrate managerial coaching (e.g., guidance and facilitation coaching) can enhance an employee's expertise. Consequently, this positive situation can increase employees' expertise, including practicing good attitudes, adapting to tasks, and understanding the organization's objectives and tasks, within the studied organization. CONCLUSION: The findings have recognized that facilitating coaching is a crucial managerial problem that organization must solve. Therefore, for practical contribution, organizations should establish an effective selection system based on coaching instruments to recruit leaders who already have coaching ability externally and promote potential employees as coaches internally. Sub-degree education is one of the key higher education sectors in Hong Kong. With the effect of managerialism, tertiary institutions tend to transition from a collegial toward a managerial model, and have shifted from teaching-intensive institutions to research-intensive ones. In this study, two key research questions are addressed: to what degree can managerialism influence organisational change? To what degree and how will an exogenous force generate organisational development? To answer the research questions, we present a case study at "Hong Kong College" via 15 face-to-face, semi-structured interviews with the administrative staff, academic staff, department head, and a visiting scholar. The key research findings identified the difficulties or obstacles experienced in carrying out research or scholarly activities, the long-term impacts on the workplace of staff and sub-degree institutions changing from teaching to research, the advantages of the staff and institutions regarding their working areas in the process of new research directions, and the driving forces for enriching a research culture in sub-degree institutions. The concept of managerialism as it relates to the field of human services has garnered increased attention from researchers in recent years. Understood as the "dominance of management practices and ideas derived in the for-profit sector", managerialism is widely embraced within the nonprofit sector in the United States. Despite increased attention to the role and impact of managerialism within human services, theoretical and empirical research examining the operationalization of managerialism within human service organizations remains limited. In the field of homeless services specifically, little is known about how managerialist ideology and practice affect the provision of services within organizations serving unhoused populations. This paper examines the role and impact of managerialism on the organizational functioning of a large homeless services agency located in a major metropolitan area of the United States. The specific ways managerialism is operationalized within this organization are examined. Further, the impact of managerialist ideology and practice on the organization's ability to work successfully toward its mission of eradicating homelessness is discussed. In doing so, this paper suggests that managerialist approaches to providing homeless services may impede an organization's ability to meet its goals and mission in ways that align with institutional logics more commonly associated with human service organizations and the nonprofit sector more generally. The restructuring of Britain's civil service is understood mainly as a Thatcher- and Blair-era event rooted in neoliberal economic policies. Yet its roots reach back to the late 1960s and early 1970s. During that time, senior civil servants turned to American management strategy to advance the government's efforts to scale back the size of the service. This article explores these efforts via the activities of the Treasury's Management Services Division and its Head, John N. Archer. In 1969, Archer made a month-long visit to the United States to study American management techniques. Over the next few years, he and his colleagues attempted to implement one of these techniques in particular—Office Work Measurement—throughout the service. Derived from scientific management, OWM would, they believed, help cut the number of positions in the service. In tracing these efforts, the discussion sheds light on an under-analysed episode in Britain's civil service reform history. In turn, it argues that the OWM quest of the early 1970s played a heretofore under-emphasised role in the government's embrace of 'managerialism' and the implementation of civil service reforms. The intersection of migrant labour and the gig economy is a field of growing interest. Although there is no comprehensive public data on the topic, current studies show that platform labour in urban gig economies is often carried out by migrants. While uberised work has been quite extensively analysed, the dimensions of everyday life and time are still little studied. This paper aims to fill this gap, looking at the convergence of migrant labour, the gig economy, everyday life, and time. The authors present a time-space-energy nexus to illustrate the constant assembling of working and non-working times by workers and the potential tensions arising from the algorithmic managerial model of work. Specific attention is given to how migrant couriers organise the times and spaces of their everyday lives within platform-mediated food delivery in Venice. To explore this topic, a qualitative-ethnographic investigation was carried out in the historic centre of Venice from January to June 2022. This article highlights the features and tendencies of the food delivery sector in Venice, in order to show how the particular forms that migrant worker/runners' living and working conditions take contradict the supposed flexibility proposed by digital platforms. How is it possible to survive as a woman senior leader in the gendered managerial academy? In this autoethnographical article, I illustrate the lived reality, insecurity, and struggle of academic leadership. Drawing from three vignettes, I discuss decision‐making processes, blatant sexist aggressions, and the problematic negation of affect and personal life. Their critical contribution is to expose the consequences of gendered managerialism in the neo‐liberal academy and the false promise of 'leadership', in which women continue to experience gender challenges, sexism, and the risk of burnout in their everyday experiences. However, I also show how it is possible to counter the detrimental effects of gendered managerialism through four forms of resistance: resistance through embodied affective authenticity; resistance through solidarities, and social relations with others; resistance through feminist activism; and resistance by stepping back. This study examines the associations between academics' perceptions of their institutions' performance management systems, and in particular their performance evaluation, and academics' attitudes and behaviours. Responses from over 1000 New Zealand academics reveal that those who perceive their performance evaluation as outcomes‐focused and process‐focused are more likely to exhibit compliance‐based behaviour. In contrast, when performance evaluation is perceived as being values‐driven and supportive of collegiality, the academics exhibit internalised behaviours. Management learning aims to ensure managerial success and while failure is acknowledged, learners are encouraged to adopt a growth mindset and to bounce back from failure. However, the complexity of contemporary managerial work and the degradation of the managerial labour process mean that managers increasingly experience failures. Managers therefore need to learn not merely from failure but to learn to tolerate failure, that is, to fail well. The article differentiates types of failures and focuses on intractable failures that leave managers feeling inadequate and that corrode their sense-of-self. Therefore, an affective and embodied identity-based understanding of managerial failure is developed and an empirical case study of managers who engage in the most popular managerial sporting activity, running, is used to theorise the process of learning to fail-well. The mixed-methods empirical study using artefact elicitation participant data and autoethnographic authorial data is detailed and suggestions for more reflexive managerial education are advanced. The aim of this research is to examine the influence of company size, managerial ownership, and Sustainability Report on the financial performance of banking companies in Indonesia, with operational efficiency as an intervening variable. The population for this study comprises banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2018 to 2022. Data collection was conducted using purposive sampling, resulting in a sample of 13 companies and a total of 65 observations. The analysis technique employed is panel data regression. Microsoft Excel and Eviews 13 were used for data processing. The research findings indicate that, partially, company size and managerial ownership have a positive effect on operational efficiency. However, the Sustainability Report does not significantly affect operational efficiency. Furthermore, company size and operational efficiency are empirically proven to have a positive impact on financial performance. Meanwhile, managerial ownership and Sustainability Report do not significantly influence financial performance. Company size and managerial ownership, mediated by operational efficiency, positively impact financial performance, while Sustainability Report which mediated by operational efficiency, does not significantly affect financial performance. The article analyzes two ideologies that are the most important for the modern Transhumanism and managerialism as two ideologies most significant for the modern Western world have been analyzed. The study of these issues was carried out in the context of identifying the relationship between the Western elites’ support for Ukraine and the transformation processes that are taking place in the European Union and North America. The purpose of the study is to determine what social changes in the West lead to forming barriers to the peaceful resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The work applied general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as the comparative method of scientific cognition. Document analysis was used as an applied method of collecting empirical information (the study of information portals, state authorities’ and non-governmental organizations’ websites). As the study result, the following conclusions have been made. The transhumanism ideology in the countries of the European Union and North America is focused on creating a “society of the chosen”. The transhumanism and managerialism application leads to a significant increase in society manageability by accelerating traditional social ties disintegration. Western society transformation increases its vulnerability due to incomplete change of social values and internal resistance to transhumanism and managerialism. The special military operation on the territory of Ukraine is used to strengthen integration processes in the West.

In this research, using the content analysis method, an attempt is made to extract key ideoogies related to the research topic. In the first stage, the studies of this field are studied using the systematic study method and finally a framework was designed to conduct the research. The statistical population includes all policies that is enacted in the field of higher education by legislative institutions of Iran. These policies include the approvals of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution from the time of its establishment until 1402 in the field of the higher education system, as well as the most important policies approved by the Islamic Council after the Islamic Revolution.The method of sampeling was judge sampeling and finally, two ideologies of Islamism and managerialism were extracted in these policies. These two ideologies were identified with the sub-components of transformation in humanities, Islamization of universities, as well as monetization and privatization of higher education that these findings were approved by some experts of this field.Discussion and ResultsRegarding the ideology of the Islamic Revolution or Islamism, it can be expected that this ideology will follow its reproduction process in the transformation of scientific institutions. Therefore, with the victory of the Islamic revolution, human sciences were given attention. The agents of the revolution were of the belief that it is necessary that the foundations of human sciences be re-evaluated based on authentic Islamic sources and cleansed of the cultural and ideological elements of the West. As can be seen, various policies were adopted to achieve this goal.The main function of ideology in entering the policy flow is to define in groups and out groups. After that, these people and groups entered the cycle of agenda setting in the policy-making institutions and finally proceed to advance their goals and ideological values in these proposed policies. It is not the case that all the goals and values considered by the actors will be approved by these institutions. Depending on the monopoly or competition of the policy space of these institutions, the changes in the policy proposals are from little to much.According to the analyzed policy trends, the approvals of the two supreme policy-making bodies of the two ideologies of Islamism and managerialism can be traced. These two ideologies have always had a policy effect with the central values of Islamization of universities and monetization of higher education in the governments after the war, imposed both in the Islamic Council and in the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, and had obvious implementation consequences, which in the statistics of the official institutions of this field of expansion of paid higher education has been clearly reported in the past years.ConclusionThe analysis of policy documents extracted from the period after the Islamic Revolution of Iran to 1402 in the field of higher education shows that the two ideologies of Islamism and managerialism have always had serious effects on the definition of guiding ideas for solving problems in this field. In other words, the developers of policies in the form of laws in the main legislative and policy-making institutions have considered the solution to the problems of this field either in the expansion of Islamic values in universities or market values. Although in this research, only the phase of policies formulation was discussed, but the empirical evidences provided by the centers that provide relevant statistics show that the implementation of these policies is completely in line with these documents.

The main problem of the current research is the absence of a suitable measure to measure the information asymmetry between managers who forecast profits and statistical analysts who forecast profits through statistical methods. E-science, or networked, collaborative and multidisciplinary scientific research on a shared e-infrastructure using computational tools, methods and applications, has also brought about new networked organizational forms in the transition of higher education towards the entrepreneurial academy. While the under-representation of women in ICTs is well-recorded, it is also known that the potential of new organizational forms such as networked structures to promote gender equality remains ambiguous, as they tend to perpetuate already existing inequalities due to their embeddedness in larger and longer-term structural or institutional gender effects. Based on a year-long ethnographic study in a networked academic e-science collaboration in Sweden and 45 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with its affiliated researchers, this article analyzes the multi-level obstacles to achieving gender equality in e-science to highlight the ways in which gendered disparities persist in this new, project-based academic networked organization in Sweden, hereafter called eSec. At the organizational level eSec remains deeply embedded in the traditional disciplinary and institutional academic setting, inadvertently reproducing existing gender imbalances across sciences. Furthermore, as a project-based organization, it is also embedded in the shift towards an entrepreneurial university model driven by new managerialism, the latter having a well-documented adverse effect in gender equality. This represents a structural-level obstacle which leads to especially female junior faculty leaving academy for industry. An individual level obstacle is observed alongside these as disavowal (Verleugnung) of gender disparities, an affect identified as a key mechanism of subjectivation in neoliberalism. This article reevaluates contemporary Ishin by comparing two policy entrepreneurs – managerialist guru Ōmae Ken'Ichi, and former Osaka governor Hashimoto Tōru. It argues that Ōmae's and Hashimoto's policy entrepreneurship put contemporary Ishin on a managerialist and neoliberal trajectory and fashioned it into a policymaking template for anti-establishment political reformers (kaikakuha). Despite using nationalist and anachronistic 'Ishin' terminology with his Heisei Ishin no Kai (Heisei Restoration) political movement of the early 1990s, Ōmae adapted ideational innovation and coalition building strategies from his experience in McKinsey & Company to diffuse managerialist and neoliberal policy ideas through the broader political system. Some two decades later, Hashimoto's Ōsaka Ishin (Osaka Restoration) politics reified many of Ōmae's ideas and practices through a form of 'technocratic populism', in which a seemingly incompatible pairing of anti-establishment populism and the reliance on technical 'experts' underpins the governing process. Using the 'policy entrepreneur' analytical framework', the first two sections of this article pinpoint the critical juncture where Ōmae inverted Ishin's state-building logic into an anti-establishment, neoliberal platform. Kathleen Folbigg's recent acquittals for multiple homicides have rekindled the debate over the adequacy of post-conviction review in Australia. This article explores the constraints of the finality principle and the appellate system in Australia in addressing potential wrongful convictions, including the impact of managerialist policies. The authors discuss the limitations of an independent criminal case review commission model. They argue that the debate should be centred on the inadequacy of legal aid as a significant risk factor for wrongful convictions, the need for less restrictive appeal criteria, and developing consistent and transparent processes for the retention and retrieval of evidence. The article analyzes the negative effects of managerialist management on the subjectivity of the academic community. The aim of the research: to establish a correlation between the decrease in the subjectivity of the academic community and the managerialist model of higher school management. Two methods were used to collect empirical information: a mass survey of teachers at four universities in Rostov region and the analysis of normative-legal documents regulating the application of managerialist norms to the higher education system. The result of the operationalization of basic concepts (subjectivity, academic community, managerialist management) was the definition of three empirical indicators: 1) perceptions of the academic community about the traditional goals of higher education; 2) resources of the academic community to achieve managerialist goals; 3) the presence of deformations in the professional ethics of academics and teachers. The study confirmed the hypothesis that the implemented managerialist policy has a negative impact on the academic community, reducing its subjectivity. Dysfunctions are manifested in two areas of professional activities of scientists and teachers. The first one is caused by the peculiarities of managerialism. Managerialism in any socio-cultural and socio-political conditions inevitably leads to the substitution of goals for the means of their achievement. This occurs due to the absence of reliable indicators for effective managers to assess the quality of reproducible results of their activities by scientists and teachers. The second direction is related to the loss of freedom in decision-making at meetings of historically established in universities sustainable social practices (meetings of the department, academic councils, dissertation councils, etc.). This is due to the administrative subordination of the academic community to the managerial tasks of the bureaucracy.

Background This paper discusses the lack of references that comprehensively describe the changes in universities owing to the ideology of neoliberalism. This research also discusses how a university maintains its function and identity when the great wave of neoliberalism massively erodes collegiality as the original philosophy of the university through a case study of the neoliberalism ideology on higher education. This study also provides a comprehensive framework for higher education management and governance changes. Methods We selected all retrieved sources based on the keywords and analyzed all the documents we obtained. This study obtained data from Scopus retrieved on October 27, 2023, using the following keywords: (TITLE-ABS-KEY ('collegiality') OR TITLE-ABS-KEY ('change management') OR TITLE-ABS-KEY ('neolibelism')) AND TITLE-ABS-KEY ('higher education'). This study utilized bibliometric analysis to ensure a structured review of the literature on collegiality, change management, and neoliberalism in higher education. Results The findings show that organizational management, leadership, education, technology, curriculum, innovation, organizational change, decision-making, and human beings are significant trajectories of neoliberalism in higher education. Conclusions This study offers other constructs for accelerating leadership success in higher education. This relates to how change leadership can navigate changes resulting from neoliberal ideology.

A scoping review to identify models of doctoral supervision as described in the literature (2000 and 2021) was conducted using Arksey and O'Malley's six-step framework. Four bibliographic databases generated 2102 potential studies. Further screening identified 81 articles for inclusion. The findings highlight that despite differences in terminology, an international move towards more collaborative and structured approaches is identifiable. Benefits detailed in the literature include: better throughput, the mitigation of loneliness and power issues implicated in one-on-one approaches, and the possibility for a stronger research foundation and interdisciplinary work. Concerns were also noted about increasing managerialism whereby support structures focus on efficiencies rather than quality and growing ties between industry and doctoral education without much critique of possible conflicts. This article argues that special and inclusive education policies in Nepal have been influenced by neoliberal policy reforms. The study employs discourse analysis as a theoretical perspective to analyse the effects of market-based schooling practices on students with disabilities in Nepal. The findings of this study are informed to some extent by the outcomes of the doctoral research project (Thapaliya, 2018). Data was collected through policies and documents. A selection of key education policies and documents between 1990 to 2020 were examined and analysed. One core theme and five sub-themes were identified from the data analysis. Disability as a resource management issue was a main theme. (i) Managing resources; (ii) resource allocation criteria; (iii) professional experts deciding resource funds; (iv) competing for limited resources; and (v) competition and school choice were sub-themes. The available evidence signals that the marketisation model of education does not assist students with disabilities adequately. The findings of this study reveal that the current policy and practice signal changes in government structure rather than working to fulfil these commitments in the everyday practice of students with disabilities. Sustainability reporting has been established as a dominant but problematic communication practice in global sustainability management. In this paper, we challenge the commonplace view of reporting as the simple and textual transmission of information, by interpreting corporate sustainability reports as visual artefacts that encourage particular views of environmental issues. We discuss visualization as a key practice in communication and rhetoric, asking what visual managerialism looks like in corporate reports, focusing on a corpus drawn from the Swedish United Nations Global Compact. We engage in a three-stage rhetorical critique to identify three kinds of visualizations: numerical, diagrammatic, and pictorial, establishing how they emphasize communicative characteristics such as logic, simplicity, and clarity. We consolidate these characteristics with the term 'Powerpoint Imagination,' arguing that they construct environmental problems in terms of a technocratic solutionism, i.e., efficiency, standardization and control. Dynamics connected to professionalization are often analysed from an individual perspective highlighting individual professionals' struggle for recognition as a professional. This paper looks at the organizational context and its effects on teachers' professional status in the wake of NPM inspired reforms in Finland. Despite the quantitative nature of the Finnish school audit, the design of the evaluation presents a critical translation of the knowledge claims often made in New Public Management audits. By looking at the original research reports and discussions on the audit system, this paper shows how the Finnish school audit conceptualised education as a societal subsystem and school audit as a tool for linking education with other subsystems. The Finnish school audit produces data for educational policy development and the teachers' own use. The article suggests that maintaining occupational professionalism requires both the presence of knowledge for professional application and the absence of knowledge yielding to market or managerial interference. Accounts can be understood as "repair of problematic situations", which, in turn, may be seen as inference to the best explanation of a surprising observation. We analyse "learning events" as told by prominent Swedish industrial leaders in two sets of interviews with 30 years between them. We find that the accounts quite often centre around surprising situations, i.e. uncertainty is maximal, where coherence is reached by combining facts and arguments into an understanding of the situation good enough to justify action. The primary function of these accounts is to generate meaning. That meaning will inform managers in the choice of relevant "levers of control" in implementation. It has been argued that "semi-confusing information" in organizations will invite questions and dialogue, and thereby help them avoid or overcome crises. We extend this line of reasoning by showing how such information feeds deliberation – construction of inference to the best explanation – by abductive reasoning toward action in "moments-of-truth". Customer behavior is like something complex where in the process there are internal factors and external factors that can influence customers to determine purchase decisions. In this study, data will be collected on the food and beverage industry, namely Bila Bakery. There is a phenomenon that occurs in Bila Bakery in the form of a decline in sales after the pandemic. In fact, in this case, If the bakery has data related to customer membership but has never been evaluated, so the data cannot provide consideration in decision-making by management. This study is a quantitative research that uses a descriptive analysis method and PLS-SEM using data obtained from Bila Bakery customers through the distribution of questionnaires with WhatsApp Blast, there are 157 respondents as a sample in this study. The results of the study show that Product Quality and Price have a positive and significant effect on Purchase Decisions, but Service Quality has a positive effect but does not have a significant effect on Purchase Decisions on Bila Bakery customers. From the system view of organisations, this study investigated how client relationship management (CRM) strategy responses of architectural firms to market conditions influence their firm performance. Previous studies have proposed empirical models that explored this relationship in several organisational contexts, but there is a dearth of studies that explained the link between CRM strategy and firm performance in the context of architectural firms. The empirical model of the current study closed this gap by explaining how the CRM strategy features used by architectural firms influence their firm performance. A questionnaire survey of 195 samples of randomly selected architectural firms was conducted in Lagos, Nigeria. 82 copies of the questionnaire (42% response rate) were retrieved and the nominal and ordinal data obtained were subjected to descriptive, factor and categorical regression analyses using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) software (IBM SPSS Statistics 23). The regression analysis revealed that client collaboration, client communication and service customisation dimensions of CRM strategy had a statistically significant influence on the firms' overall performance. The model of this study contributed to the empirical literature by revealing how the strategic behaviour of architectural firms in the industrial market optimizes their performance. Combining quantitative data from a national survey (n = 252) with qualitative interviews with frontline social workers (n = 16), this manuscript examines the ways in which bureaucracy and managerialism has impacted social work in Northern Ireland, with specific attention to relationship‐based practise. Although policy documents emphasise the importance of relationship‐based practise, quantitative and qualitative data demonstrate social workers are spending increasingly more time on administrative tasks to the detriment of direct work with service users. A whole institutional response is necessary to develop conditions conducive to placing relationships at the heart of practise, and promotion in practise guidelines and policy documents alone is insufficient. This study aims to evaluate the managerial effectiveness and credit risk in predicting the market performance of non-cyclical sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2018-2022. The number of samples is 38 companies so the total observation data is 190 data on 38 companies. This study uses a causal descriptive design approach where the measurement of managerial effectiveness uses return on net operating assets and credit risk is measured by debt to equity ratio. While measuring market performance using Tobin's Q. The study used RNOA to measure managerial effectiveness, Tobin's Q to measure market performance and DER to measure credit risk. The results of the study show that 88.1% variation in the value of Tobin's Q in non-cyclical sector companies listed on the IDX can be explained by the return on net operating assets RNOA and debt to equity ratio DER. which indicates that managerial effectiveness and credit risk play a crucial role in determining the company's market performance. Partially, the return on net operating assets of RNOA had a significant negative effect on Tobin's Q and the debt-to-equity ratio DER had a significant positive effect on Tobin's Q. While corporate social responsibility (CSR) research is now impressively broad, we identify fresh opportunities at the intersection of feminist and critical analysis to reframe this field as a force for good. We focus on the epistemological grounding of CSR in its potential to understand and change how managerial activity is interpreted and influenced for progressive ends. We approach this through a reading of the debate on CSR's limited practical use, to imagine a better methodological and purposeful future for CSR. This involves a different, feminist, political and ethical stance for researchers in relation to CSR as an object, to bring CSR theory and practice into alignment in order to revive its sense of purpose as a driving organizational force for good. Our change‐orientated approach is based on a reading of Judith Butler's notion of critique as praxis of values; it is politically aware, reflexive, and focused on the goal of good organization to address grand, often existential, challenges. We conclude by showing how this approach to CSR brings a more transparent way of analysing practice, requiring reflexive action on the part of those working with CSR initiatives both as practitioners and as researchers to co‐produce better futures. We examine fund managers' mobility across different funds and the factors associated with their moving to new posts. Based on a comprehensive and unique dataset of open‐ended funds of the booming Chinese mutual fund industry, we model the duration of a fund manager's service as a time‐to‐event counting process and examine how the prevailing market conditions, the manager's performance and the risk profile of the fund determine how long the manager will remain in post. Our study establishes that managerial performance and rising rather than falling markets are the two main factors that make managers less likely to remain in their posts. In contrast, the riskier the profile of the fund with respect to the market, the less likely it is that a manager will move. When all factors are considered, it appears that open‐ended fund managers leave their posts when offered better employment prospects rather than when confronted by market adversity. Our study provides a novel insight into the optimization of investment decisions and encourages regulators to scrutinize the disclosure of appropriate information to investors regarding fund manager changes. Based on the notion that organizations are complex systems, this study combines the configurational perspective with the performance feedback theory to explore constellations of multi‐level causal conditions that explain variations in firm risk‐taking behaviour. Using the fuzzy set methodology as our analytic approach, we derive multiple configurations based on a dataset of 1753 observations belonging to 402 firms from the US pharmaceutical industry. Our findings espouse equifinality and the differential importance of factors denoting a firm's ability, motivation and opportunity space in determining low and high levels of risk‐taking. Across historical and social aspirations, our results disclose significant differences and similarities in constellations of causal conditions leading to high and low levels of risk‐taking, respectively. Public housing (PH) focuses on assisting low-income households with housing stability. However, the inefficiency of property management in PH gives rise to a range of challenges in both physical and internal operational management, leading to negative stigmatisation towards tenants living in PH. Various initiatives have been launched to address the inefficiencies of property management. This study categorised and elaborated these initiatives under three main categories: reconceptualisation, externalisation, and managerialisation. There is currently no systematic literature review that provides a comprehensive overview of the initiatives aimed at enhancing property management in PH on a global scale, despite the fact that an overwhelming number of initiatives have been proposed in various studies. Therefore, the present systematic literature review was conducted to provide a comprehensive understanding of the existing research and initiatives pertinent to PH property management. This thorough examination will not only inform the current state of property management practices but also provide valuable insights to guide future research endeavours and decision-making processes in this domain. The outcome of this study revealed the positive impact of managerialisation, showcasing its pivotal role in problem identification and as a strategic indicator for proposing solutions aimed at continuous improvement. Neoliberal practices such as managerialism and academic casualisation impact higher education systems globally. While these practices can constrain any curriculum aimed at enabling transformative learning, this paper shows that they place particular limitations on arts and humanities curricula intent on cultivating criticality and a sense of social responsibility. I draw on data from an English literature curriculum study at a mega distance education institution in South Africa and use Legitimation Code Theory to take a close-up look at how two neoliberal practices: managerialism and academic casualisation cause misalignments between the underpinning values of the curriculum and the kinds of pedagogic and formative assessment practices that are employed. I conclude that decisions regarding administration, enrolments and staffing based on neoliberal values can frustrate students' epistemological and ontological access to humanities disciplines and limit the potential of humanities curricula to offer a higher education in service of the social good. The focus of this article is the experiences that defendants – both represented and unrepresented – have when appearing via video link(s) from prison(s) to court(s), in England and Wales. This exploration is based on second‐hand accounts. In this study, 20 interviews were conducted with a range of court actors, and 403 court hearings at two magistrates' courts were observed. The findings demonstrate that while video hearings were initially introduced to promote managerialism values (i.e., increase efficiency and reduce costs), due process rights have in some instances been undermined. It will be argued that although appearing via video has advantages for defendants and can enhance their ability to effectively participate in the process, challenges also arise in relation to this. University governing bodies, especially academic boards, play a crucial role in policy formation. However, due to the predominance of managerial values over academic values in the policy-making process, a persistent divide exists between policy formulation and implementation. This divide results from the marginalisation of academics and the dominance of managerial authority figures within these bodies. Our study investigates the latter to determine the precise Foucauldian apparatus used by authority figures to influence policy-making meetings. Using an innovative arts-based method, we analyse ethnographic vignettes through a Foucauldian lens and transform them into collages depicting the apparatus used by authority figures: Strategic Managerial Monumentalism, Managerial Historical Revisionism, Managerial Discursive Dominance, Managerial Panoptic Surveillance, and Managerial Normalisation. We contend that only a well-defined separation of governance powers can effectively counter the encroachment of managerialism and uphold the democratic representation of academic values in university policies to bridge the policy-practice divide. Strategic decision-making is often complex and uncertain, especially in turbulent environments. A large number of frequently conflicting indicators, rapid and unpredictable environmental changes, and the long-term consequences of making a decision have revealed the need for managers to use more efficient tools. Today, for tomorrow, conventional tools such as Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) and MADM help us make the best decision based on yesterday's information. In some scenario planning approaches, the number of scenarios is so few that it cannot represent future uncertainty. In MADM methods, the problem of calculation complexity arises due to the increase in the number of elements. To address these issues, this research proposed an alternative approach for choosing the best strategy in which the alternative strategies are defined by SWOT analysis, future scenarios are determined by applying a matrix approach, irrational scenarios are eliminated by using interpretive structural modelling, and strategies are assessed by implementing Robustness Analysis (RA). The proposed method involves a case study related to a distributing centre for a food and beverage company located west of Mazandaran province, Iran. Nine alternative strategies' performances were evaluated in twenty-two scenarios based on six significant indicators shaping the future environment, and the best strategy was selected. Finally, some directions for future studies were presented. This study provides managerial implications by showing that despite the classic strategy selection approach being appropriate for austere environments and the MADM models being reasonable for complex environments, RA produces more reliable results when dealing with turbulent environments. This article advances and illustrates the concept of "leaderhood" and argues for its role in the rediscovery and renewal of the inclusive, future-oriented spirit of the enterprise of education. Leaderhood, with its links to such concepts as "citizenhood", "elderhood", and "parenthood", is intended to convey a deep sense both of relatedness and of open-ended, future-focused concern. While leadership concerns an occupation or activity, leaderhood is more a state of being, recognizable not only in formal leadership situations but in every part of life, emerging not from policy and regulation but from a sense of fellowship and an awareness of our responsibilities to others and our community. Highlighting the importance of leaderhood in rediscovering the spirit of the educational enterprise and resisting managerialism and "strongman" leadership, we illustrate four principles governance of leaderhood should embody: clarity of function (particularly where governance ends and leading begins); a commitment to openness, transparency, truth, and accountability in aims and decision-making; democratic dialogue among a wide range of stakeholders based on inclusion and co-production; and an inter-sectoral, whole-system perspective, comprehending the entire meta-system, rather than being tied to one or another part of it. The article contrasts leadership, which holds on to the past and stifles difference, with leaderhood, which is attentive to the common good and engages fully with its responsibility to the future. Embedding leaderhood in collective action, we argue, is a key lesson for governance in developing a social contract for education that is open, fair, inclusive, and democratic. Background: Internet topology is studied more by researchers on global internet coverage compared to limited regional coverage. However, some studies also see the importance of studying internet topology in certain countries or regions. The internet performance of a country or region can be influenced by the structure of its internet topology, and research on internet topology can contribute to improving internet topology in that region. Objective: This research initially carried out internet topology mapping in a limited region, then used experience from each step in conducting internet topology mapping to create a comprehensive guide on procedures for internet topology mapping at the autonomous system (AS) level in certain regional areas. Methods: Internet topology mapping is carried out by inferring relationships between ASes through an inference process against border gateway protocol (BGP) table dumps, while the internet topology mapping method chosen is passive mapping. Results: The entire series of steps involved in the regional internet topology mapping process have been successfully outlined in a detailed guide as a result of this research. Evaluation of the research results was carried out by implementing the application of this comprehensive guide and also through assessments from experts in related fields regarding the results of this research. The results of both evaluations showed that the research results were appropriate. Conclusion: This research provides a comprehensive guide for mapping internet topology in specific regional areas, consisting of nine sequential steps grouped into four major steps. This guide can be used to assist similar research efforts in other regional areas as well as provide further knowledge regarding studies in this field. This research is different from previous studies, because it provides a comprehensive guide to the internet topology mapping process, which has not been available in previous studies. Purpose: This article tackles the intersection of mothering and labor through the author's own experience as a feminist mother/manager from Istanbul, Turkey. It aims to revisit the first years of motherhood, exploring the struggle to invent a peculiar maternal subjectivity in opposition and negotiation with the patriarchal institution of motherhood, the new definition of maternal labor in a highly digital, neoliberal context and the issue of marital fairness in a dual-income heterosexual marriage. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents an autoethnographic, retrospective and introspective inquiry into the first seven years of the author's mothering experience in order to offer an in-depth exploration of the various aspects of contemporary maternal labor. Findings: The article shows how maternal labor has shifted in nature and expanded in scope in a contemporary non-Western context. It investigates the dissolution of the spatial, temporal and sensorial boundaries between the managerial labor dedicated to the workplace, and to the family. Highlighting the similarities of the two forms of labor, the article manifests the materiality, tangibility and visibility of maternal labor. Research limitations/implications: Further intersectional studies shall be beneficial to redefine maternal labor in different contexts. Practical implications: Departing and diverting from the terms "invisible labor" and "mental load", the article suggests a shift in terminology to stress the multifaceted medley of managerial tasks mothers undertake today.
