1. Effect of Training on Physiological and Biochemical Variables of Soccer Players of Different Age Groups

Abstract

Purpose: To find out the effect of training on selected physiological and biochemical variables of Indian soccer players of different age groups. Methods: A total of 120 soccer players volunteered for the study, were divided (n=30) into 4 groups: (i) under 16 years (U16), (ii) under 19 years (U19), (iii) under 23 years (U23), (iv) senior (SR). The training sessions were divided into 2 phases (a) Preparatory Phase (PP, 8 weeks) and (b) Competitive Phase (CP, 4 weeks). The training program consisted of aerobic, anaerobic and skill development, and were completed 4 hrs/day; 5 days/week. Selected physiological and biochemical variables were measured at zero level (baseline data, BD) and at the end of PP and CP. Results: A significant increase (P<0.05) in lean body mass (LBM), VO2max, anaerobic power, grip and back strength, urea, uric acid and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C); and a significant decrease (P<0.05) in body fat, hemoglobin (Hb), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were detected in some groups in PP and CP phases of the training when compare to BD. However, no significant change was found in body mass and maximal heart rate of the players after the training program. Conclusion: This study would provide useful information for training and selection of soccer players of different age groups.

Abstract

Herein, the detailed corrosion behavior of ultrafast laser‐surface structured Ti6Al4V (using a Ti: Sapphire laser processed under optimum parameters) is carried out in simulated body fluid using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and correlated with surface characteristics. Laser structuring leads to a topographically modified surface consisting of periodic surface patterns (nanoripples, nanodots) in the presence of a thin oxide layer. Surface processing introduces strain on the surface up to a depth of 150 μm, with the grains aligned along the (101¯0)$\left(\right. 10 \bar{1} 0 \left.\right)$ and (21¯1¯0)$\left(\right. 2 \bar{1} \bar{1} 0 \left.\right)$ planes. The detailed electrochemical impedance spectroscopic studies show the formation of stable passive layers in surface‐structured Ti6Al4V as compared to as‐received Ti6Al4V. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Ti/Al multilayer thin films with precise thickness have been deposited using a combination of dc and rf magnetron sputtering techniques. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed unmixed fifteen parallel and alternate layers of Ti and Al with sharp interfaces, each measuring 27 nm and 15 nm in thickness, respectively. The Ti layer was composed of hcp and fcc phases while the Al layer was fcc. Both x-ray diffraction (XRD) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) analysis confirmed the identity of these phases. Detection of fcc-Ti in as-deposited the Ti/Al multilayer thin film by XRD established that the fcc-Ti phase is not an artifact of TEM sample preparation, as have been envisaged by some of the previous researchers. The fcc-Ti phase appeared when dual rf guns were used for Ti deposition and the diffraction peak intensity corresponding to fcc phase increased when the gun power was raised. A modified equation of state based thermodynamic analysis confirmed that the formation of hcp phase as opposed to the thermodynamically stable fcc phase of pure Ti is due to crystallite size reduction and not impurity driven., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures. 45. Synthesis of Multi-component Alloys (Co20Cr20Fe20Mn20Ti20and Co20Cr20Fe20Mn20Ti20Ni20) by Mechanical Alloying Route

Abstract

In this article, equiatomic multicomponent alloys with the compositions of Co20Cr20Fe20Mn20Ti20and Co20Cr20Fe20Mn20Ti20Ni20were synthesized by mechanical alloying with 5, 10 and 15 h of milling. During mechanical alloying, there is refinement of particles up to 10 h of milling following which there is agglomeration of particles till 15 h of milling in Co20Cr20Fe20Mn20Ti20whereas, for Co20Cr20Fe20Mn20Ti20Ni20, the phenomenon of cold-welding predominated up to 10 h of milling following which refinement of particles were observed till 15 h of milling due to fragmentation. X-ray diffraction technique confirmed the presence of body-centered cubic and face-centered cubic phases in both the alloys. There is a considerable decrease in crystallite size and increment in the lattice strain with increase in the milling duration for both the alloys. Both the alloys exhibited nanocrystalline nature after 15 h of milling which was confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy.

Abstract

Football is popular sports worldwide and required high level of physical fitness and physiological demand. Training may improve the physical fitness and physiological variables when given according to the principle of periodization. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of training on anthropometric, physical fitness and physiological variables of football players. Ninety five male football players (age 14-16 yrs.) were included, and twenty five were excluded, the remaining seventy were divided into control group (CG, n = 35) and experimental group (EG, n = 35). The volunteers of EG followed a training (2 hrs/d, 5 d/wk., for 6 wks.), no training was followed for CG. Assessments of anthropometric, physical fitness and physiological variables were performed at 0 week and after 6 weeks. Paired sample t-test was performed to find out the differences in selected variables. An increase (p < .05) in grip and back strength, flexibility, anaerobic power, VO2max, FEV1, FVC and PEFR; and reduction (p < .05) in body mass, BMI, percent body fat, fat mass, reaction time of hands, resting heart rate, systolic blood pressure, pulse pressure were noted among the volunteers of experimental group after 6 weeks of training. Training may improve the anthropometric, physical fitness and physiological variables of the football players, and thus improve performance.

Abstract

Background: Female football becomes popular in last decades. The body fat, strength, power, endurance etc are playing an important role in female football. The present study has been designed to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of training on body composition, physical fitness and physiological variables of female football players. Materials and Methods: A total of eighty two female football players (age 16-18 yrs.) participated were included and twenty two were excluded from the study, the remaining were divided into control group (CG, n = 30) and experimental group (EG, n = 30). The volunteers of the experimental group followed a training programme (2 hrs/day, 5day/week, for 6 weeks), whereas no training was given volunteers of the control group. Selected body composition, physical fitness and physiological variables were performed at the beginning (0 week) and at the end of the study (6 weeks). Results: A significant reduction (p < .05) in body mass, body fat, resting heart rate, recovery heart rate, and systolic blood pressure; and an increase (p < .05) in strength, anaerobic power, VO2max, FEV1, FVC and PEFR was noted after 6 weeks of training. Body fat showed negative correlation with back strength (r = - 0.26, p < .05), grip strength (r = -0.46, p < .01), anaerobic capacity (r = -0.30, p < .05) and flexibility (r = -0.32, p < .05) of the volunteers. LBM showed positive correlation with grip strength right (r = 0.59, p < .05), grip strength left (r = 0.53, p < .05), back strength (r = 0.73, p < .05), flexibility (r = 0.41, p < .05). The anaerobic power showed a significant positive correlation with VO2max (r = 0.51, p < .01). Conclusions: Regular monitoring of the indicators is essential to obtain optimal performance of the players.
