Abstract

The Wahlquist-Estabrook prolongation method constructs for some PDEs a Lie algebra that is responsible for Lax pairs and Backlund transformations of certain type. We present some general properties of Wahlquist-Estabrook algebras for (1+1)-dimensional evolution PDEs and compute this algebra for the n-component Landau-Lifshitz system of Golubchik and Sokolov for any $n\ge 3$. We prove that the resulting algebra is isomorphic to the direct sum of a 2-dimensional abelian Lie algebra and an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra L(n) of certain matrix-valued functions on an algebraic curve of genus $1+(n-3)2^{n-2}$. This curve was used by Golubchik, Sokolov, Skrypnyk, Holod in constructions of Lax pairs. Also, we find a presentation for the algebra L(n) in terms of a finite number of generators and relations. These results help to obtain a partial answer to the problem of classification of multicomponent Landau-Lifshitz systems with respect to Backlund transformations. Furthermore, we construct a family of integrable evolution PDEs that are connected with the n-component Landau-Lifshitz system by Miura type transformations parametrized by the above-mentioned curve. Abstract

We study the Wahlquist-Estabrook algebra of the n-dimensional generalization of the Landau-Lifshitz equation and construct an epimorphism from this algebra onto an infinite-dimensional quasigraded Lie algebra L(n) of certain matrix-valued functions on an algebraic curve of genus 1+(n-3)2^{n-2}. For n=3,4,5 we prove that the Wahlquist-Estabrook algebra is isomorphic to the direct sum of L(n) and a 2-dimensional abelian Lie algebra. Using these results, for any n a new family of Miura type transformations (differential substitutions) parametrized by points of the above mentioned curve is constructed. As a by-product, we obtain a representation of L(n) in terms of a finite number of generators and relations, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract

The mammalian brain contains many specialized cells that develop from a thin sheet of neuroepithelial progenitor cells. Single-cell transcriptomics revealed hundreds of molecularly diverse cell types in the nervous system, but the lineage relationships between mature cell types and progenitor cells are not well understood. Here we show in vivo barcoding of early progenitors to simultaneously profile cell phenotypes and clonal relations in the mouse brain using single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. By reconstructing thousands of clones, we discovered fate-restricted progenitor cells in the mouse hippocampal neuroepithelium and show that microglia are derived from few primitive myeloid precursors that massively expand to generate widely dispersed progeny. We combined spatial transcriptomics with clonal barcoding and disentangled migration patterns of clonally related cells in densely labeled tissue sections. Our approach enables high-throughput dense reconstruction of cell phenotypes and clonal relations at the single-cell and tissue level in individual animals and provides an integrated approach for understanding tissue architecture., QC 20221109

Abstract

About 40% of patients undergoing coronary angiography for chest pain with anginal features have angiographically normal or near-normal coronary arteries. It was necessary to standardize all myocardial ischemia scenarios in stable patients in the absence of coronary artery disease, therefore the term INOCA (ischemia with non-obstructive coronary artery disease) was coined. The aim of this article is to summarize and to clarify the vast and controversial chapter of INOCA, in order to better understand the pathophysiological, nosographic, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.

Abstract

In questo lavoro viene descritto un metodo di studio applicato al monitoraggio di una spiaggia dalle particolari caratteristiche dinamiche, causate proprio dal crescente sviluppo antropico avuto negli ultimi 50 anni. Il caso studio è la spiaggia di San Leone (37°15′41″N 13°35′20″E) appartenente all’Unità Fisiografica n.10 e localizzata a sud della città di Agrigento, tra le foce del fiume Akragas a NW e la foce del fiume Naro a SE (Fig. 1). Dagli anni '70 ad oggi, la spiaggia è stata oggetto di molti cambiamenti che hanno prodotto disequilibri nelle dinamiche litoranee che si sono evidenziate nel tempo attraverso avanzamenti e/o arretramenti della linea e aree ad alta criticità da erosione. La spiaggia sabbiosa di San Leone non è un caso unico ma piuttosto rappresenta le condizioni in cui oggi si trovano diverse spiagge antropizzate, nelle quali le forti oscillazioni della linea di riva sia nel lungo (ultimi decenni) che nel breve periodo (stagionali), indicano grandi variabilità dei fenomeni fisici connessi.

Abstract

Design strategies that benefit from the reuse of system components can reduce costs whilst maintaining or increasing dependability—we use the term dependability to tie together reliability and availability. D3H2 (aDaptive Dependable Design for systems with Homogeneous and Heterogeneous redundancies) is a methodology that supports the design of complex systems with a focus on reconfiguration and component reuse. D3H2 systematises the identification of heterogeneous redundancies and optimises the design of fault detection and reconfiguration mechanisms, by enabling the analysis of design alternatives with respect to dependability and cost. In this paper, we extend D3H2 for application to repairable systems. The method is extended with analysis capabilities allowing dependability assessment of complex reconfigurable systems. Analysed scenarios include time-dependencies between failure events and the corresponding reconfiguration actions. We demonstrate how D3H2 can support decisions about fault detection and reconfiguration that seek to improve dependability whilst reducing costs via application to a realistic railway case study.

Abstract

At the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare - Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (INFN-LNS) the beam commissioning of the high intensity Proton Source (PS-ESS) and the Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) line for the European Spallation Source (ESS) has been completed. The official project schedule was satisfied and the packaging for the shipment to Lund will shortly begin. Due to the high flexibility of the magnetic system, and to the innovative approach developed for the commissioning, we were able to test a huge amount of configurations (more than 400.000). The optimum source configuration that satisfy all requirements at the same time has been identified. The source is able to produce a stable total current between 40 and 125 mA (90 mA requested) through an 8 mm extraction aperture, with a proton fraction of up to 87% (75% requested). At the end of the LEBT the beam characteristics fully satisfy the ESS requirements: more than 70 mA of proton beam with 99% normalized beam emittance of 2.25 π.mm.mrad have been transported with intra pulse current fluctuation below ±1.5% (<±2% requested) and long term current fluctuation below ±3% (<±3.5% requested). High reliability of the overall system was measured with long duration test and fast beam recovery after vacuum break of 24 hours.
