Abstract Background The aim of this study is to investigate the attitudes and beliefs of Spanish physiotherapists towards the diagnosis and management of low back pain (LBP). A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted according to STROBE guidelines from December 18, 2021, to May 2022. An online survey was developed based on Pain Attitudes and Beliefs Scale for Physiotherapists (PABS-PT), a reliable and validated self-administered instrument developed to assess the strength of two possible treatment orientations of physiotherapists towards the diagnosis and management of LBP. Respondents were selected through a non-probabilistic convenience sampling technique, and the selection criteria were (1) active physiotherapists with no restrictions on gender and length of service, (2) physical therapists who have worked in both public and private environments, and (3) physiotherapists who have been officially registered with no restriction on the place of practice in Spain. Survey data was obtained and analyzed using the SPSS Statistic 28 (IBM®) statistical software. Results Three hundred eighty-one questionnaires were finally included (F;n=151, M;n=230). In relation to the diagnosis, the respondents indicated that the tissue damage was sufficient to explain widespread and lasting pain, but rather that it was due to psychological factors. In addition, for those surveyed, the diagnosis should not focus exclusively on imaging tests but on clinical symptoms and signs. However, the weak relationship between objective damage and perceived pain intensity, as well as the weak relationship between posture and the development or worsening of LBP, did not seem to be clear to physiotherapists. From the point of view of treatment, we can indicate that professionals are committed to maintaining adequate and individualized physical activity as a first-line treatment in pain management. Conclusions Most physiotherapists in Spain have up-to-date knowledge of the biopsychosocial model of pain care. However, regarding attitudes and beliefs towards LBP, there are still contents and behaviors based on spine protective paradigms that are not conducive to active pain management.

IntroductionThe objective of this review is to know the existing scientific evidence about the effects of mechanical ventilation (MV) on neurological development in low-birth-weight premature pediatric patients after 12 months of life, taking as background the direct impact that ventilation has on the central nervous system in the newborn during the first days of life.MethodsA systematic search was carried out between 2003 and 2024 in the data bases of: PUBMED, Cochrane Library Plus, PEDro, CINAHL, and SciELO, and two investigators scored the articles according to the Newcastle-Ottawa Assessment scale.ResultsWere found 129 non-replicated articles, and 10 cohort and cross-sectional studies were selected that performed an assessment of neurodevelopment in the three spheres after 12 months of life in corrected age of premature infants exposed to ventilator support and related the two variables independently.ConclusionsMechanical ventilation is an independent neurodevelopmental risk factor in low-birth-weight preterm infants. ObjectiveThe aim of this investigation was to compare the thickness of the deep local muscles in the neck region, as well as local and widespread sensitivity and functionality, between individuals with migraine, Tension-Type Headache (TTH), and healthy controls. To date, we know that the onset of migraine and TTH share similar pathophysiological pathways. Nevertheless, there may be some anatomical and functional differences which would explain why clinicians may obtain variable results when treating both pathological entities with similar or equal approaches.MethodsAn observational study was conducted in accordance with STROBE guidelines. The flexor longus colli and multifidus, two neck-stabilizing muscles, were measured using B-mode ultrasound imaging. The upper trapezius, masseter, temporalis, tibialis anterior, and median nerve all underwent bilateral pressure-pain threshold (PPT) assessments.ResultsNinety participants were enrolled in the study. All subjects were equally divided into TTH, migraine and control groups. The PPT values exhibited lower thresholds in patients with TTH than both migraine and healthy participants. Specifically, in the temporal muscle on both sides, patients with TTH exhibited a significantly lower threshold (p 0.05 and p > 0.05; left: p > 0.05 and p > 0.05). However, patients with TTH exhibited a smaller CSA than both migraine patients and healthy controls in multifidus relaxed and contracted state (right: p 0.05).ConclusionThe findings provide a significant message for clinicians since anatomical and functional impairments were shown in patients with TTH and migraine. This study corroborates a lack of strength and smaller CSA in both clinical groups compared to controls. Therefore, strengthening programs may be addressed successfully for people with these pathological entities. To be more accurate, according to PPTs and CSA lower values in patients with TTH compared to migraine and controls, manual therapy approaches to desensitize craniocervical soft tissues and exercise therapy to increase endurance of deep cervical muscles may become meaningful especially in subjects with TTH. Nevertheless, in order to distinguish precisely between patients with TTH and migraine, different diagnostic strategies may be used in the future to describe these populations in further detail, which will assist health professionals in a more accurate treatment selection.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes, complications, and mortality of patients with intertrochanteric hip fracture treated with dynamic hip screw (DHS) vs. trochanteric fixation nail advance (TFNA). Methods: We evaluated 152 patients with intertrochanteric fractures concerning age, sex, comorbidity, Charlson Index, preoperative gait, OTA/AO classification, time from fracture to surgery, blood loss, amount of blood replacement, changes in gait, full weight-bearing at hospital discharge, complications, and mortality. The final indicators encompassed the adverse effects linked to implants, postoperative complications, clinical healing or bone healing duration, and functional score. Results: The study included a total of 152 patients, out of which 78 (51%) received DHS treatment and 74 (49%) received TFNA treatment. The results of this study show that the TFNA group demonstrated superiority (p < 0.001). However, it should be noted that the TFNA group had a higher frequency of the most unstable fractures (AO 31 A3, p < 0.005). Full weight-bearing at discharge also decreased in patients with more unstable fractures (p = 0.005) and severe dementia (p = 0.027). Mortality was higher in the DHS group; however, a longer time from diagnosis to surgery was also observed in this group (p < 0.005). Conclusions: The TFNA group has shown a higher success rate in achieving full weight-bearing at hospital discharge when treating trochanteric hip fractures. This makes it the preferred choice for treating unstable fractures in this region of the hip. Additionally, it is important to note that a longer time to surgery is associated with increased mortality in patients with hip fractures.
