Menschen sind von Natur aus auf die Orientierung im dreidimensionalen Raum eingerichtet. Sie denken und leben dreidimensional; deshalb ist es ein unersetzbarer Vorteil, bereits die Planung und Gestaltung von Fabriken sowie deren laufende Optimierung dreidimensional durchführen zu können. Im folgenden Beitrag wird eine bahnbrechende, detaillierte Gesamtmethodik vorgestellt, die umfassend den Layoutplanungsprozess über alle Planungsebenen hinweg in die Virtuelle Realität transferiert. Mehrere praktische Anwendungsbeispiele dokumentieren die grundlegende Innovation und zeigen die großen Nutzenpotenziale auf.

KurzfassungDie Fabrikplanung steht erneut vor großen Herausforderungen und der Notwendigkeit zur Digitalen Transformation: Es gilt, hochkomplexe, wandlungsfähige und modulare Layouts in kürzerer Zeit mit mehr Varianten und besser dynamisch abgesichert zu planen. Dies kann nur über eine noch weitere Digitalisierung und Virtualisierung geschehen. Dazu wurde am IMAB der TU Clausthal ein integriertes VR-Gesamtsystem entwickelt. Mit interaktiven VR-Brillen, über bidirektional verknüpfte VR-Simulationsprogramme bis zur VR-Großprojektion können jetzt erstmalig gesamtheitlich – in und mit der virtuellen Welt – Fabriken und Anlagen 1 : 1 konzipiert, gestaltet, simuliert und optimiert werden.

$J/\psi$- or $\Upsilon$-pair production at the LHC are promising processes to study the gluon transverse momentum distributions (TMDs) which remain very poorly known. In this article, we improve on previous results by including the TMD evolution in the computation of the observables such as the pair-transverse-momentum spectrum and asymmetries arising from the linear polarization of gluons inside unpolarized protons. We show that the azimuthal asymmetries generated by the gluon polarization are reduced compared to the tree level case but are still of measurable size (in the 5%-10% range). Such asymmetries should be measurable in the available data sets of $J/\psi$ pairs and in the future data sets of the high-luminosity LHC for $\Upsilon$ pairs., Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures

We study the production of polarized $\Lambda$-hyperons in electron-positron annihilation. We are particularly interested in the transverse-spin dependence of the cross section for unpolarized incident electron-positron pairs. At high energies this process may be described in the collinear twist-3 framework, where the hadronization transition of partons into a transversely polarized $\Lambda$-hyperon can be written in terms of collinear twist-3 fragmentation matrix elements. We calculate the hard partonic cross sections and interference terms in perturbative QCD to next-to-leading order accuracy. We find that the QCD equation of motion plays a crucial role in our analysis. As a byproduct, assuming the validity of QCD factorization for twist-3 observables at next-to-leading order, we derive the evolution equation for the relevant twist-3 fragmentation matrix element., Comment: 43 pages, 25 figures

We analyze the longitudinal-transverse double-spin asymmetry in lepton-nucleon collisions where a single hadron is detected in the final state, i.e., $\vec{\ell}\,N^\uparrow \rightarrow h\,X$. This is a subleading-twist observable in collinear factorization, and we look at twist-3 effects in both the transversely polarized nucleon and the unpolarized outgoing hadron. Results are anticipated for this asymmetry from both HERMES and Jefferson Lab Hall A, and it could be measured as well at COMPASS and a future Electron-Ion Collider. We also perform a numerical study of the distribution term, which, when compared to upcoming experimental results, could allow one to learn about the "worm-gear"-type function $\tilde{g}(x)$ as well as assess the role of quark-gluon-quark correlations in the initial-state nucleon and twist-3 effects in the fragmenting unpolarized hadron., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, minor changes to the text, version to appear in Phys. AFTER@LHC is an ambitious fixed-target project in order to address open questions in the domain of proton and neutron spins, Quark Gluon Plasma and high-$x$ physics, at the highest energy ever reached in the fixed-target mode. Indeed, thanks to the highly energetic 7 TeV proton and 2.76 A.TeV lead LHC beams, center-of-mass energies as large as $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 115 GeV in pp/pA and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 72 GeV in AA can be reached, corresponding to an uncharted energy domain between SPS and RHIC. We report two main ways of performing fixed-target collisions at the LHC, both allowing for the usage of one of the existing LHC experiments. We calculate the double-spin asymmetries $A_{\mathrm{LL}}$ for the processes $\ell N\to h X$ and $\ell N\to {\mathrm{jet}}\, X$ at next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative QCD. We compare our theoretical results for $A_{\mathrm{LL}}$ to data from the SLAC E155 experiment, finding only partially satisfactory agreement. We conclude that measurements of $A_{\mathrm{LL}}$ and the relevant polarized and unpolarized cross sections should be performed at the present-day fixed-target lepton scattering experiments, as well as at a future electron ion collider, in order to verify our understanding of this process. Transverse single-spin asymmetries are among the most intriguing observables in hadronic physics. Though such asymmetries were already measured for the first time about four decades ago, their origin is still under debate. Here we consider transverse single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive lepton–nucleon scattering, in nucleon–nucleon scattering, and in inclusive lepton–nucleon scattering. It is argued that, according to recent work, the single-spin asymmetries for those three processes may be simultaneously described in perturbative QCD, where the re-scattering of the active partons plays a crucial role. A comparison of single-spin asymmetries in different reactions can also shed light on the universality of transverse momentum dependent parton correlation functions. In particular, we discuss what existing data may tell us about the predicted process dependence of the Sivers function.

We consider one of the most fundamental sets of hadronic matrix elements, namely the generalized transverse momentum dependent distributions (GTMDs), and argue that their existing definitions lack proper evolution properties. By exploiting the similarity of GTMDs with the much better understood transverse momentum distributions, we argue that the existing definitions of GTMDs have to include an additional dependence on soft gluon radiation in order to render them properly defined. With this, we manage to obtain the evolution kernel of all (un)polarized quark and gluon GTMDs, which turns out to be spin independent. As a byproduct, all large logarithms can be resummed up to next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy with the currently known perturbative ingredients.

We discuss the potential of AFTER@LHC to measure single-transverse-spin asymmetries in open-charm and bottomonium production. With a HERMES-like hydrogen polarised target, such measurements over a year can reach precisions close to the per cent level. We review a number of ideas put forward in favour of the use of a polarised target along with the proposed idea of a fixed-target experiment using the LHC beams -- AFTER@LHC. A number of recent studies have shown that single transverse-spin asymmetries (STSAs) are large enough to be precisely measured in the region accessible with AFTER@LHC, in particular as regards the Drell-Yan process as well as single-pion, isolated-photon and jet production. AFTER@LHC with a polarised target would also be the ideal experimental set-up to measure the gluon Sivers effect via a number of original quarkonium STSA studies. We discuss first figures-of-merit based on simulations for AFTER@LHC with a polarised target.

Recently, three twist-3 spin asymmetries for single-inclusive hadron production in deep-inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering have been computed using collinear factorization and the leading order approximation. Here we summarize the main findings of these studies.

The role of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) gluonic parton distributions is discussed for proton collisions at high energies. In particular the production of two real photons in proton collisions in the kinematical regime of small transverse pair momenta may be used to obtain information on gluon TMDs. While spin-dependent gluon TMDs can be studied in polarized proton collisions at RHIC the effect of linearly polarized gluons on unpolarized proton collisions at the LHC may be utilized to determine the parity of the Higgs boson.

Transverse single spin asymmetries in inclusive deep-inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering can be generated through multi-photon exchange between the leptonic and the hadronic part of the process. Here we consider two-photon exchange, and mainly focus on the transverse target spin asymmetry. In particular, we investigate the case where two photons couple to different quarks. Such a contribution involves a quark-photon-quark correlator in the nucleon, which has a (model-dependent) relation to the Efremov-Teryaev-Qiu-Sterman quark-gluon-quark correlator TF. Using different parameterizations for TF we compute the transverse target spin asymmetry for both a proton and a neutron target, and compare the results to recent experimental data. Potential implications on our general understanding of single spin asymmetries in hard scattering processes are discussed as well.

The present knowledge about nontrivial relations between generalized parton distributions for a spin-1/2 hadron on the one hand and transverse momentum dependent distributions on the other is reviewed. While various relations can be found in the framework of simple spectator models, so far no model-independent nontrivial relations have been established. In fact, by relating the two types of parton distributions to the fully unintegrated, off-diagonal quark-quark correlator for a spin-1/2 hadron, we argue that none of the nontrivial relations can be promoted to a model-independent status.

We investigate the behavior under Lorentz tranformations of perturbative coefficient functions in a collinear twist-3 formalism relevant for high-energy observables including transverse polarization of hadrons. We argue that those perturbative coefficient functions can, {\it a priori}, acquire quite different yet Lorentz-invariant forms in various frames. This somewhat surprising difference can be traced back to a general dependence of the perturbative coefficient functions on lightcone vectors which are introduced by the twist-3 factorization formulae and which are frame-dependent. One can remove this spurious frame dependence by invoking so-called Lorentz invariance relations (LIRs) between twist-3 parton correlation functions. Some of those relations for twist-3 distribution functions were discussed in the literature before. In this paper we derive the corresponding LIRs for twist-3 fragmentation functions. We explicitly demonstrate that these LIRs remove the lightcone vector dependence by considering transverse spin observables in the single-inclusive production of hadrons in lepton-nucleon collisions, $\ell N\to hX$. With the LIRs in hand, we also show that twist-3 observables in general can be written solely in terms of three-parton correlation functions., 17 pages, 6 figures, minor changes, final version, published in PRD

In inclusive deep-inelastic lepton-hadron scattering multi-photon exchange between the leptonic and the hadronic part of the process causes single spin asymmetries. The asymmetries exist for a polarized target as well as a polarized incoming or outgoing lepton, if the polarization vector has a component transverse with respect to the reaction plane. The spin dependent parts of the single polarized cross sections are suppressed like $\alpha_{em} m_{pol}/Q$ - where $m_{pol}$ denotes the mass of the polarized particle - compared to the leading terms of the cross section for unpolarized or double-polarized deep-inelastic scattering. Both the target and the beam spin asymmetry are evaluated in the parton model. In the calculation only quark-quark correlators are included. While this approximation turns out to be justified for the lepton spin asymmetries, it is not sufficient for the target asymmetry., Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure, minor changes, final version, to appear in Phys. The Sivers mechanism gives rise to a non-zero average transverse momentum of partons inside a transversely polarized target. According to a sum rule of Burkardt this transverse momentum vanishes when summing over all partons. We explicitly check the Burkardt sum rule by means of one-loop calculations for a quark target in perturbative QCD and for a diquark spectator model of the nucleon. In both cases the sum rule is fulfilled., final version, to appear in Phys. Lett. B

We report on the studies of Transverse-Momentum-Dependent distributions (TMDs) at a future fixed-target experiment --AFTER@LHC-- using the $p^+$ or Pb ion LHC beams, which would be the most energetic fixed-target experiment ever performed. AFTER@LHC opens new domains of particle and nuclear physics by complementing collider-mode experiments, in particular those of RHIC and the EIC projects. Both with an extracted beam by a bent crystal or with an internal gas target, the luminosity achieved by AFTER@LHC surpasses that of RHIC by up to 3 orders of magnitude. With an unpolarised target, it allows for measurements of TMDs such as the Boer-Mulders quark distributions and the distribution of unpolarised and linearly polarised gluons in unpolarised protons. Using polarised targets, one can access the quark and gluon Sivers TMDs through single transverse-spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan and quarkonium production. In terms of kinematics, the fixed-target mode combined with a detector covering $\eta_{\rm lab} \in [1,5]$ allows one to measure these asymmetries at large $x^\uparrow$ in the polarised nucleon., Comment: Symposium SPIN2014, Beijing

We study the production of two almost back-to-back hadrons from the annihilation of an electron and a positron, allowing for the polarization of all particles involved. In particular, we conduct a general (model-independent) structure function decomposition of the cross section for the case $e^+e^- \to \gamma^* \to h_ah_bX$. Moreover, using the parton model we calculate the relevant structure functions in terms of twist-2 transverse momentum dependent (TMD) fragmentation functions (FFs). We also give results for the situation $e^+e^- \to Z^* \to h_ah_bX$ (including $\gamma$-$Z$ interference) within this model. This is the first time a complete framework has been presented for the examination of TMD FFs within $e^+e^-\to h_ah_bX$. We also specify certain parts of our analysis that hold for the triple-polarized semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering process and for di-hadron fragmentation. Furthermore, we give an explicit prescription of how our work can be translated to the Drell-Yan reaction, which provides for the first time full results for double-polarized Drell-Yan that include electroweak effects. We argue that the study of heavy quarkonia, in particular that of $\Upsilon$, produced back-to-back with an isolated photon in $pp$ collisions at the LHC is the best --and currently unique-- way to access the distribution of both the transverse momentum and the polarization of the gluon in an unpolarized proton. These encode fundamental information on the dynamics of QCD. We have derived analytical expressions for various transverse-momentum distributions which can be measured at the LHC and which allow for a direct extraction of the aforementioned quantities. We report on the opportunities for spin physics and Transverse-Momentum Dependent distribution (TMD) studies at a future multi-purpose fixed-target experiment using the proton or lead ion LHC beams extracted by a bent crystal. The LHC multi-TeV beams allow for the most energetic fixed-target experiments ever performed, opening new domains of particle and nuclear physics and complementing that of collider physics, in particular that of RHIC and the EIC projects. The luminosity achievable with AFTER@LHC using typical targets would surpass that of RHIC by more that 3 orders of magnitude in a similar energy region. In unpolarised proton-proton collisions, AFTER@LHC allows for measurements of TMDs such as the Boer-Mulders quark distributions, the distribution of unpolarised and linearly polarised gluons in unpolarised protons. Using the polarisation of hydrogen and nuclear targets, one can measure transverse single-spin asymmetries of quark and gluon sensitive probes, such as, respectively, Drell-Yan pair and quarkonium production. The fixed-target mode has the advantage to allow for measurements in the target-rapidity region, namely at large x^uparrow in the polarised nucleon. We calculate the diphoton distribution in the decay of arbitrary spin-0 and spin-2 bosons produced from gluon fusion, taking into account the fact that gluons inside an unpolarized proton are generally linearly polarized. The gluon polarization brings about a difference in the transverse momentum distribution of positive and negative parity states. At the same time, it causes the azimuthal distribution of the photon pair to be non-isotropic for several spin-2 coupling hypotheses, allowing one to distinguish these from the isotropic scalar and pseudoscalar distributions., 5 pages, 5 figures

The single-spin asymmetry of unpolarized leptons scattering deep-inelastically off transversely polarized nucleons is studied in a partonic picture within a collinear twist-3 framework. Since this observable is generated by multiphoton exchanges between a lepton and nucleon a partonic description of the asymmetry contains essential elements of a full next-to-leading order calculation for single-spin asymmetries in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. In particular, it is shown how nontrivial cancellations between kinematical and dynamical twist-3 contributions lead to a well-behaved and finite formula. This final result can be expressed in terms of multipartonic quark-gluon and quark-photon correlation functions. Hence, a measurement of the transverse target single-spin asymmetry may provide new constraints on these multipartonic correlations.

We investigate the possible role of linearly polarized gluons in Higgs production from unpolarized $pp$ collisions. The transverse momentum distribution of the produced Higgs boson is found to exhibit a modulation with respect to the naive, unpolarized expectation, with the sign depending on the parity of the Higgs boson. The transverse momentum distribution of a scalar Higgs will, therefore, have a shape clearly different from a pseudo-scalar Higgs. The non-vanishing of naive T-odd parton distributions function can be explained by the existence of the gauge link which emerges from the factorized description of the deep inelastic scattering cross section into perturbatively calculable and non-perturbative factors. This path ordered exponential describes initial / final-state interactions of the active parton due to soft gluon exchanges with the target remnants. Although these interactions are non-perturbative, studies of final state interactions have been approximated by perturbative one-gluon exchange in Abelian models. We include higher-order gluonic contributions from the gauge link by applying non-perturbative eikonal methods, incorporating color degrees of freedom in a calculation of the Sivers function. In this context we study the effects of color by considering the FSIs with Abelian and non-Abelian gluon interactions. We confirm the large $N_c$ QCD scaling behavior of Sivers functions and further uncover the deviations for finite $N_c$. Jefferson Lab (JLab) 12 GeV energy upgrade provides a golden opportunity to perform precision studies of the transverse spin and transverse-momentum-dependent structure in the valence quark region for both the proton and the neutron. In this paper, we focus our discussion on a recently approved experiment on the neutron as an example of the precision studies planned at JLab. The new experiment will perform precision measurements of target Single Spin Asymmetries (SSA) from semi-inclusive electro-production of charged pions from a 40-cm long transversely polarized $^3$He target in Deep-Inelastic-Scattering kinematics using 11 and 8.8 GeV electron beams. This new coincidence experiment in Hall A will employ a newly proposed solenoid spectrometer (SoLID). The large acceptance spectrometer and the high polarized luminosity will provide precise 4-D ($x$, $z$, $P_T$ and $Q^2$) data on the Collins, Sivers, and pretzelocity asymmetries for the neutron through the azimuthal angular dependence. The full 2$\pi$ azimuthal angular coverage in the lab is essential in controlling the systematic uncertainties. The results from this experiment, when combined with the proton Collins asymmetry measurement and the Collins fragmentation function determined from the e$^+$e$^-$ collision data, will allow for a quark flavor separation in order to achieve a determination of the tensor charge of the d quark to a 10% accuracy. The extracted Sivers and pretzelocity asymmetries will provide important information to understand the correlations between the quark orbital angular momentum and the nucleon spin and between the quark spin and nucleon spin., Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures, minor corrections, matches published version

We consider photon pair production in hadronic collisions at large mass and small transverse momentum of the pair, assuming that factorization in terms of transverse momentum dependent parton distributions applies. The unpolarized cross section is found to have azimuthal angular dependencies that are generated by a gluonic version of the Boer-Mulders function. In addition, the single-transversely polarized cross section is sensitive to the gluon Sivers function. The fully unintegrated, off-diagonal quark-quark correlator for a spin-1/2 hadron is parameterized in terms of so-called generalized parton correlation functions. Such objects, in particular, can be considered as mother distributions of generalized parton distributions on the one hand and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions on the other. Therefore, our study provides new, model-independent insights into the recently proposed nontrivial relations between generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. We find that none of these relations can be promoted to a model-independent status. As a by-product we obtain the first complete classification of generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist. Possible relations between two a priori different classes of parton distributions, the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) and the Transverse Momentum Dependent parton distributions (TMDs), are discussed in this note. Although these relations were proven to hold exactly only in simple models they imply an appealingly simple and intuitive explanation for single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. In this context we perform a first classification of common mother functions of GPDs and TMDs, so-called Generalized Transverse Momentum Dependent parton distributions (GTMDs), investigate their GPD- and TMD-limits, and gain new insight into the nature of these relations.

We present first results from our analysis of the most general quark‐quark correlator of the nucleon, which can be parameterized in terms of so‐called generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. These results include the first complete parameterization of the nucleon GPDs and TMDs as well as new results on possible nontrivial relations between them.

We present a comprehensive formalism for dilepton production from the collision of two polarized spin−12 hadronsby identifying the general angular distribution of the cross section in combination with a complete set of structure functions. The various structure functions are computed in the parton model approximation where we mainly consider the case when the transverse momentum of the dilepton pair is much smaller than its invariant mass. In this kinematical region dilepton production can be described in terms of transverse momentum dependent parton distributions.

We analyze the breaking of the Wandzura-Wilczek relation for the g_2 structure function, emphasizing its connection with transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions. We find that the relation is broken by two distinct twist-3 terms, and clarify how these can be separated in measurements of double-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. Through a quantitative analysis of available g_2 data we also show that the breaking of the Wandzura-Wilczek relation can be as large as 15-30% of the size of g_2., Comment: 12 pages

Today’s state-of-the-art, real-time distributed systems require sophisticated software engineering techniques to support a diverse set of mission requirements. This chapter discusses an event-driven approach to the design of such systems in the context of a fully-functional search and localization application intended for unmanned aerial vehicles. Here, the discussion focuses on the basic design principles that form the foundation of the distributed, scalable, and cross-platform implementation, and it provides an evaluation of the system’s performance on a set of representative tasks. The main contribution of this effort consists of a modular software framework that is well-suited for solving problems in distributed intelligence and autonomous robotic systems. This framework is an enabling technology that integrates different functional components, such as sensing, analysis, and control into one cohesive platform. This solution employs off-the-shelf commercial technologies, resulting in a low-cost implementation that exhibits both robustness and flexibility.
