A história editorial da obra de Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) por vezes desconsiderou a potencialidade crítica e reflexiva dos seus escritos sobre estética. Nesse breve estudo, levantamos hipóteses para explicar os motivos dessa desatenção, percorrendo as considerações dos principais críticos pessoanistas. Estudamos, ainda, o que nos diz uma seleção de textos em prosa voltados para questões estéticas e atribuídos ao poeta português e aos seus heterônimos Álvaro de Campos e António Mora. Concluímos com um momentâneo balanço dos escritos estéticos pessoanos em face do tempo histórico em que o poeta português produz seus apontamentos.

Resistência medicamentosa continua representando importante problema mundial. A busca por terapias naturais é frequentemente observada em decorrência da possibilidade de minimizar o uso de medicamentos sintéticos, além da menor ocorrência de efeitos adversos. Capixingui (Croton floribundus) é uma espécie arbórea, tropical, considerada como planta medicinal. Em sua composição destaca-se o ácido caurenóico, com ação antimicrobiana, citotóxica e anti-inflamatória. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a atividade antimicrobiana do extrato hidroalcóolico de Croton floribundus a 10% (EHAC10%) sobre inócuos Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Staphylococcus saprophyticus ATCC 15305, Escherichia coli ATCC 11229, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 700603 e Pseudomona aeruginosa ATCC 27853. A atividade antimicrobiana foi avaliada por difusão em disco e concentração inibitória mínima. Complementarmente, foi determinada atividade antioxidante, além dos teores de fenóis e flavonoides totais. EHAC10% inibiu o crescimento de Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, e Pseudomona aeruginosa. Quanto à atividade antioxidante, teores de fenóis e flavonoides totais, foi possível verificar o padrão dose dependente com valores máximos apresentados na maior dosagem avaliada pelo presente estudo (1.000 µg mL-1). A atividade antioxidante, foi registrada a partir de 250 µg mL-1, apresentando valor máximo correspondente a 70,56%. Os maiores teores de fenóis e flavonoides totais corresponderam a 280 mg e 44,41 mg, respectivamente. Dessa forma, as atividades antibacteriana e antioxidante do EHAC 10% podem representar importante potencial terapêutico para o controle da mastite bovina, especialmente para sistemas orgânicos de produção.

Losses in skeletal muscle mass, strength, and metabolic function are harmful in the pathophysiology of serious diseases, including breast cancer. Physical exercise training is an effective non-pharmacological strategy to improve health and quality of life in patients with breast cancer, mainly through positive effects on skeletal muscle mass, strength, and metabolic function. Emerging evidence has also highlighted the potential of exercise-induced crosstalk between skeletal muscle and cancer cells as one of the mechanisms controlling breast cancer progression. This intercellular communication seems to be mediated by a group of skeletal muscle molecules released in the bloodstream known as myokines. Among the myokines, exercise-induced circulating microRNAs (c-miRNAs) are deemed to mediate the antitumoral effects produced by exercise training through the control of key cellular processes, such as proliferation, metabolism, and signal transduction. However, there are still many open questions regarding the molecular basis of the exercise-induced effects on c-miRNA on human breast cancer cells. Here, we present evidence regarding the effect of exercise training on c-miRNA expression in breast cancer, along with the current gaps in the literature and future perspectives.

This study describes thermo-rheological properties of branched copolymer surfactants (BCSs) stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions to generate materials exhibiting temperature-dependent gelation with the ability to solubilize a broad range of molecules. Four poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-ran-poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (poly(NIPAM-ran-PEGMA)) BCSs with varying molecular weight (Mn), 4.7; 7.0; 7.8 and 9.0 kg mol−1, are investigated via oscillatory shear rheology, small angle neutron scattering (SANS), and neutron reflectivity (NR). Rheological thermoscans show that emulsions stabilized by the BCS with the lowest Mn (4.7 kg mol−1) are thermo-thinning, while with the other BCSs the emulsions display a thermo-thickening behavior. Emulsions stabilized with the BCS with Mn = 7.8 kg mol−1 form gels within a precise temperature window depending on BCS concentration. Small angle neutron scattering data analysis suggests that the BCS is present in two forms in equilibrium, small aggregates dispersed in the bulk water and an adsorbed polymeric layer at the oil/water interface. Changes in dimensions of these structures with temperature correlate with the macroscopic thermo-thinning/thermo-thickening behavior observed. Discutimos, nesse texto, como Goethe, atraves de sua Ifigenia em Tauris (1787), captura as questoes sobre vinganca e hamartia presentes na tragedia homonima de Euripides (c.414 AEC). Analisamos, em principio, a peca do tragediografo grego a luz das suas preocupacoes historicas, de seu lugar que ocupa na totalidade da obra de Euripides e das negociacoes miticas e mitograficas. Em seguida, dedicamo-nos ao drama de Goethe para buscar compreender como o escritor alemao sequestra as inquiricoes e resolucoes de Euripides, desmantelando-as sob o signo da vinganca e da hamartia , palavra grega que significa falta ou erro recepcionado pelo heroi tragico. Concluimos nossa discussao sustentando a ideia de que a obra de Goethe a que nos dedicamos instaura sua vinganca e hamartia a partir das nao determinacoes, das “manchas” e do esboroamento das palavras. Os rios são fontes de um dos recursos naturais indispensáveis aos seres vivos, tendo elevada im­portância cultural, socioeconômica, histórica nas cidades onde se localizam. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar os parâmetros físico-químicos da água do rio Traíras localizado na reserva particular de desenvolvimento sustentável Legado Verdes do Cerrado, na cidade de Niquelândia-GO, sendo este a principal fonte de abastecimento de água da população. Na presente pesquisa foram selecionados cinco pontos de coleta da água do rio Traíras para aferição das características físico-químicas, tais como: pH, turbidez, cor e sólidos totais dissolvidos. Os resultados das análises das quatro fases sazonais das coletas dos cinco pontos evidenciaram que as condições da água bruta do rio se encontram dentro dos limites permitidos pela resolução CONAMA no 357/2005, apresentando caráter adequado de consumo, mesmo ocorrendo alterações ambientais irreversíveis nas adjacências do corpo hídrico. Assim, é importante a implementação do plano de gestão ambiental para minimizar futuros impactos.

Este estudo objetiva analisar a possibilidade da participação da iniciativa privada, por meio das Parcerias Público-Privadas, como forma de garantir o acesso digno e eficiente ao serviço público de saúde no Brasil, considerando os problemas enfrentados por aqueles que recorrem ao Sistema Único de Saúde. Para tanto, buscou-se sistematizar as informações relacionadas ao tema, explanando acerca de sua importância e a possibilidade do seu emprego dentro do atual quadro de saúde pública existente. Pontua-se, neste sentido, que as PPP’s serão apresentadas como alternativa executável para a prestação do serviço público essencial, em observância aos princípios da universalidade, equidade e integralidade, previstos na Lei nº 8.080/1900, que regulamenta o SUS. Além do estudo acerca do conceito, objeto suscetível de concessão e, ainda, das modalidades previstas na Lei 11.079/2004, que trata das Parcerias Público-Privadas, também será feita uma breve análise a respeito do panorama do Sistema Único de Saúde, apresentando os seus antecedentes, os principais problemas e a possibilidade de que os serviços de saúde sejam prestados de forma complementar pela iniciativa privada, em conformidade com a Constituição Federal.

Nessa breve entrevista que fizemos com Jerónimo Pizarro - docente e pesquisador da área das literaturas de expressão portuguesa, da Universidad de Los Andes, e editor da obra de Fernando Pessoa -, propusemos ao professor um conjunto de 8 perguntas que consideramos fundamentais para refletirmos, dentre alguns aspectos: os caminhos que levaram Pizarro a se interessar pelo estudo da obra do poeta português; as múltiplas e díspares existências das edições das obras de Fernando Pessoa; a conjugação entre crítica literária e crítica textual para melhor compreensão das particularidades da poética pessoana; a metamorfose dos ambientes críticos dedicados aos textos de Pessoa; e a trajetória - material e digital - da obra do poeta português como desafio à fruição estética e aos estudos vindouros. Cremos que a entrevista é um grande contributo para todos os pesquisadores que ensinam e investigam a obra de Fernando Pessoa e de seus heterônimos.

Thermoreversible gels which transition between liquid-like and solid-like states when warmed have enabled significant novel healthcare technologies. Poly(N,N-diethyl acrylamide) (PDEA) is a thermoresponsive polymer which could be used as a trigger to form thermoreversible gels, however its use in these materials is limited and crucial design principles are unknown. Herein copolymers with the structure PDEA-b-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-b-PDEA were synthesized to give four block copolymers with varied molecular weight of PDEA and PEG blocks. Rheometry on solutions of the block copolymers revealed that high molecular weight PEG blocks were required to form thermoreversible gels with predominantly solid-like behaviour. Furthermore, small-angle X-ray scattering elucidated clear differences in the nanostructure of the copolymer library which can be linked to distinct rheological behaviours. A thermoreversible gel formulation based on PDEA (20 kDa)-b-PEG (10 kDa)-b-PDEA (20 kDa) was designed by optimising the polymer concentration and ionic strength. It was found that the gel was mucoadhesive, stable and non-toxic, as well as giving controlled release of a hydrophobic drug. Overall, this study provides insight into the effect of polymer architecture on the nanostructure and rheology of PDEA-b-PEG-b-PDEA and presents the development of a highly functional thermoreversible gel with high promise for healthcare applications. Nas usinas sucroalcooleiras, a cana-de-acucar e processada para producao dealcool e acucar. A vinhaca e um subproduto da producao de alcool que, alem de serrica em nutrientes minerais, possui potencial para geracao de biogas devido ao seualto teor de materia orgânica. Uma das alternativas existentes e a producao debiogas (metano) por meio do processo de biodigestao anaerobia da vinhaca emreatores de manta de lodo UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket). O biogas,assim produzido, apresenta potencial energetico competitivo com outras fontesrenovaveis de energia, sendo a quantidade produzida relacionada as caracteristicasda vinhaca e das configuracoes do reator de manta de lodo. O objetivo do presenteestudo consistiu no desenvolvimento de um programa computacional capaz desimular o processo realizado no reator UASB para geracao de biogas a partir davinhaca. As equacoes de balanco de massa foram implementadas no programa paradescrever a operacao do reator UASB. Essas equacoes foram resolvidas com oproposito de estabelecer o volume de biogas produzido a partir de uma massaconhecida de vinhaca. Atraves de um planejamento fatorial foram analisadas asinfluencias da DQO, DBO5, vazao do afluente de vinhaca e da temperatura novolume de biogas produzido. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que todas asvariaveis analisadas foram significativas para a producao de biogas. Portanto, pormeio de uma simulacao computacional obtem-se informacoes uteis para a tomadade decisoes quanto a instalacao e a viabilidade economica da producao de energiaeletrica a partir da vinhaca.

Lisozima mostrou-se capaz, quando dispersa em certos meios orgânico-aquosos, de gerar sistemas pseudoplásticos que evoluem espontaneamente para redes de caráter viscoelástico. Esse fenômeno foi investigado neste estudo, para lisozima dispersa em uma série de misturas binárias contendo derivados de uréia como componente orgânico. Devido aos notáveis efeitos observados para um de tais derivados, a saber, tetrametiluréia (TMU), especial atenção foi dedicada aos sistemas contendo esse composto. O enfoque experimental incluiu espectroscopia Raman, microcalorimetria, reologia e espalhamento de raios X a baixo ângulo (SAXS). O trabalho envolveu o estudo dos sistemas orgânico-aquosos isolados e na presença de proteína. No primeiro caso, foi feita uma investigação espectroscópica e microcalorimétrica dos sistemas quanto a aspectos relativos à segregação de microdomínios na fase liquida e sua conseqüente relação com a deflagração da transição viscoelástica na proteína. Foram observadas descontinuidades nos valores de entalpias de excesso de mistura para o sistema TMU/água em torno de wTMU = 0,6, assim como padrões peculiares de comportamento espectral em torno dessa concentração da mistura binária. No segundo caso, os sistemas complexos de proteínas gerados foram investigados sob o ponto de vista morfológico e dinâmico, através das técnicas reológicas e de SAXS. Energias de ativação de fluxo determinadas na região sub-crítica, de comportamento Newtoniano, mostraram uma dependência exponencial direta com wTMU, indicando que mudanças estruturais nos fluidos complexos já ocorrem em regiões de composição do solvente bem abaixo da região de transição em wTMU = 0,6. Na região viscoelástica, 0,6 0,6, com dimensão máxima de ca. de 160 Å, responsável pela interdigitação com espécies fractais vizinhas e uma espécie compacta, minoritária em wTMU > 0,6 (porém predominante em wTMU 0.6, with maximum dimension ca. 160 Å and interdigitated with neighbouring fractal species; and a compact conformation, of minor prevalence at wTMU>0.6 (but prevailing at wTMU < 0.6), with radius of gyration ca. 48 Å, present in the matrix microdomain interstices. It has also been verified the feasibility of homogeneous incorporation of cytochrome-c into the lysozyme matrices, an event of potential biotechnological interest. Results from this work bring further experimental support to our hypothesis on the correlation between microconfigurational inversion in the binary solvent medium and the sol-gel transition in the protein.

Thermoreversible gels switch from a free-flowing liquid state to an elastic gel mesophase upon warming, displaying the reverse transition upon cooling. While this phenomenon makes these advanced materials highly attractive in numerous fields, the generation of optimal materials of tailored rheology and transition temperatures is stifled by the lack of design principles. To address this need, a library of ABA copolymers has been prepared with “A” blocks exhibiting thermoresponsive behavior and “B” blocks of poly(ethylene glycol). This library evaluates the effect of “A” chemistry, probing three polymer classes, and A/B block molecular weight on thermally-induced phase changes in solutions of the polymers. An exploration by rheometry coupled to Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) elucidates temperature-dependent hierarchical self-assembly processes occurring on the nanoscale as well as bulk rheology. This process deciphered links between rheology and supracolloidal assemblies (sphere, ellipses, and cylinders) within the gel state with interactions probed further via structure factors. Several design principles are identified to inform the genesis of next-generation thermoreversible gels, alongside novel materials exhibited thermoresponsive behavior in the solution state for use in applied healthcare technologies.

The diversity between the ruminants’ digits makes it necessary to study the anatomical features in all these animals. For this purpose, the left forelimb and hind limb of Brazilian male bovine breeds (Curraleira, n=15; Pantaneira, n=15; Nellore, n=15) and water buffaloes (n=12) were used. Dorsopalmar/plantar radiographies were obtained. Then they were photographed, digitalized and analyzing by computer program ImageJ software. The lengths of the condyles (LC), first (P1), second (P2), third phalanges (P3), and the overall length (OL) of the digits, on the forefeet (FF) and hind feet (HF) were determined. The LC, P1, P2, P3 and OL of the digits were similar in the Curraleira and Pantaneira breeds in the FF and HF. In Nellore, the lengths of all bone measurements were greater than the bone lengths of the Curraleira and Pantaneira. No differences for LC and P1 lengths between Nellore and Buffaloes were observed. The buffaloes showed the lengths of the P2, P3 and OL greater than the bone measurements of all bovine breeds. No statistical differences between lateral and medial digits, of the FF and HF, were seen in bovines and buffaloes. Nevertheless, it was interesting to observe that the lateral digits appeared some millimeters greater, in Curraleira (FF=2.4 mm, HF=0.8 mm), Pantaneira (FF=0.7 mm, HF=1.1 mm), Nellore (FF=0.7 mm, HF=1.6 mm) and buffaloes (FF=0.2 mm, HF=0.9 MM). The lateral forefoot condyles were longer than medial forefoot condyles in all animals. A higher correlation between the length of P3 and the body weight in the hind foot of buffaloes was seen. Canonical analysis demonstrated similarity between the bovine digits and proved that buffalo digits were longer than in all bovines. The lengths of the digital bones are different among Curraleira, Pantaneira and Nellore breeds, and Buffaloes. Key words: Cattle, digit, ruminants, radiography, bone, Bovidae.

Bovine mastitis is characterized by inflammation of the mammary gland, usually due to bacterial infection, compromising quantity and quality of milk production. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity, in vitro, of the hydroalcoholic extract of the pomegranate peel at 10% against standard strains of bovine mastitis. The colonies were adjusted to the concentration of 107 ml-1 using UV-visible spectrophotometry, and the extracts were evaluated in quintuplicate in concentrations of 1000, 500, 250, 75, 50 and 25 μg ml-1. The sensitivity of the strains was determined using the minimum inhibitory concentration and disk diffusion test. Additionally, antioxidant activity and total phenolic content was evaluated. The extract, at concentrations of 500 and 1000 μg ml-1, inhibited Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), S. Saprophyticus (ATCC 15305), S. Epidermidis (ATCC 12228), Escherichia coli (ATCC 11229), Enterobacter cloacae (ATCC 23355 ) and Bacillus cereus (ATCC 33018), but it was not effective for Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853) and Salmonella enterica subspecie, enterica serovar Typhi (ATCC 19214). Antioxidant activity was observed from 50 μg ml-1 reaching a plateau at 500 mg ml-1 with 64.90%, and the concentration that causes 50% of the inhibition (IC50) corresponded to 378.80 μg l-1. Perhaps the presence of other substances in the extract may have been responsible for the antioxidant activity detected. That way, the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of EHPG 10% may represent an important therapeutic potential, particularly for animal health in organic and agroecological production systems. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of Cryptosporidium in cattle and sheep from the North Pioneer mesoregion of the state of Paraná. For this, 317 stool samples were collected from cattle and sheep on 16 properties in six municipalities in the North Pioneer mesoregion of Paraná. For detection of Cryptosporidium species, molecular analysis was performed using nested-PCR techniques targeting the 18S rRNA gene. Of the 37 beef cows and 115 calves analyzed, four (10.8%) and 14 (12.2%), respectively, were positive for Cryptosporidium. Of the 12 cows and 52 calves, one (8.3%) and 14 (26.9%), respectively, were positive for Cryptosporidium; and of the 42 ewes and 59 lambs, six (14.3%) and 12 (20.3%), respectively were positive for Cryptosporidium. Cattle (15.3%) and sheep (17.8%) were both susceptible to infection. All the properties of the municipalities of Assaí, Ibaiti and, Leópolis presented infected animals. The study showed that Cryptosporidium occurs in most municipalities assessed, that dairy calves had a higher risk (Odds Ratio=2,66, p-value=0,018) for infection than beef calves, and that sheep are just as susceptible to infection as are cattle, and that further Cryptosporidium studies are developed.

Segundo o censo de 2010 aproximadamente um quarto da populacao brasileira possui deficiencia, essa populacao esta submetida a varias barreiras que dificultam a sua integracao social logo, objetivou-se identificar na literatura atual como se dar o acesso das pessoas com deficiencia aos servicos de saude na atencao primaria brasileira. Revisao integrativa de artigos cientificos publicados entre 2010 a 2015. Levantaram-se estudos nas seguintes bases de dados: Medline, LILACS, BDENF, COCHRANE. Utilizaram-se os seguintes descritores: “atencao basica”, “acesso aos servicos de saude” em cruzamento com “pessoas com deficiencia”. Identificou-se um total de 1.561 artigos e selecionados para o estudo doze destes. A partir da analise dos artigos formularam-se duas categorias: acessibilidade fisica; competencias dos profissionais. Evidenciou-se que mesmo em meio as conquistas do direito a saude de qualidade das pessoas com deficiencia, o acesso das mesmas na atencao basica tem se dado em meio a muitas dificuldades por falhas na acessibilidade fisica e fragilidade nas competencias dos profissionais na assistencia a pessoa com deficiencia. Mediante o exposto faz-se necessario a atuacao dos gestores em prol da adaptacao das UBS para possibilitar o acesso ao atendimento universal, capacitacao e qualificacao dos profissionais para prestar assistencia integral. A transição sol-gel de lisozima dispersa em tetrametiluréia/água foi investigada em profundidade. Tais dispersões geraram sistemas de alta viscosidade que evoluíram para a formação de géis ?físicos?, i.e., sistemas de redes viscoelásticas mantidas por interações do tipo forças de van der Walls e ligações de hidrogênio. O enfoque deste trabalho foi dividido em duas frentes: a) estudo do sistema lisozima nas misturas binárias; b) estudo das misturas binárias indutoras do efeito de gelificação na ausência da proteína. Realizou-se um estudo cinético e dinâmico das dispersões e géis por meio de experimentos reológicos, espectroscópicos e calorimétricos. A partir dos resultados reológicos procurou-se correlacionar as propriedades mecânicas macroscópicas dos géis com suas propriedades microscópicas, tendo sido possível estabelecer o caráter fractal dos agregados formados. Os estudos espectroscópicos no infravermelho permitiram acompanhar mudanças estruturais da proteína durante o processo de gelificação, revelando o efeito do meio na estruturação secundária da lisozima. Observou-se que a mistura binária tende a causar um aumento de conteúdo de folhas b na proteína quando acima da concentração crítica de fração de massa de tetrametiluréia em água (wTMU > 0,6), com uma concomitante redução no teor de hélices alfa. Estudos calorimétricos revelaram uma dependência inversamente linear das entalpias e temperaturas de denaturação da lisozima com a concentração do co-solvente orgânico no sistema, observando-se ausência de qualquer evento térmico na região acima da concentração crítica do solvente misto. Com a finalidade de se sondar as características dinâmicas e estruturais das misturas binárias responsáveis pela indução do efeito de gelificação em lisozima, foram realizados estudos solvatocrômicos envolvendo as misturas binárias tetrametiluréia/co-solvente, em que os co-solventes ensaiados foram água e alguns álcoois. A comparação entre o efeito solvatocrômico das misturas TMU/água e TMU/álcool permitiu verificar o caráter estruturador da TMU em meio aquoso e seu efeito desestruturador nos meios alcoólicos. Lysozyme sol-gel transition in tetramethylurea/water was investigated in depth. These dispersions produced highly viscous systems, which evolved to physical gels, i.e., systems where the gel backbone is maintained by van der Walls forces and hydrogen bonding. The work was conducted in two fronts: a) the study of lysozyme dispersions in binary mixtures; b) the study of the binary mixtures themselves. A kinetics and dynamical characterization of the dispersions and gels was undertaken by means of rheological, spectroscopic and calorimetric assays. In the light of the rheological data, correlations were proposed between the gel mechanical macroscopic behaviour and its microscopic properties. The fractal character of the gels was established and their dimensionality calculated. Infrared spectroscopic experiments revealed changes in the protein secondary structure during and well after the sol-gel transition induced by the binary solvent mixture. It was found that the binary mixture induces an increase in the b-sheet content with a concomitant reduction of the a-helix, when above its critical concentration, as expressed in mass fraction of tetramethylurea in the binary mixture (wTMU >0.6). Calorimetric studies revealed that both denaturation temperature and enthalpy decrease linearly with the increase of TMU mass fraction in the mixed solvent, with no thermal effect being noticed above the binary mixture critical concentration. In order to investigate the dynamic and structural characteristics of the binary mixtures responsible for lysozyme sol-gel transition, solvatochromic assays were carried out for several TMU/co-solvent systems, where the co-solvents assayed were water and a few alcohols. Results revealed that TMU has structure-maker behaviour in water and structure-breaker behaviour in alcohol systems.
