Introdução: António Gonçalves de Azevedo, nascido em 1903, em Matosinhos, foi Professor Universitário, Médico e Investigador. Exerceu o cargo de Diretor da FMUP. É reconhecido como o pioneiro na introdução da utilização da ventosa obstétrica em Portugal. Esta dissertação pretende homenagear a vida e obra deste Professor. Materiais e Métodos: Foi realizada uma pesquisa presencial na Biblioteca da FMUP e online nos Arquivos e Repositório da Universidade do Porto (UP). Foram realizadas três entrevistas a familiares, colegas e discípulos próximos do Professor. Resultados: Formou-se como Médico na Faculdade de Medicina do Porto, com distinção. Enveredou pela Especialidade de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia, tendo como Mestre o Professor Morais Frias. Ocupou cargos de relevo na Maternidade Júlio Dinis e no Hospital de São João. Teve uma carreira académica prolífica na Faculdade que o formou, tendo sido Professor Catedrático e, mais tarde, Diretor. Fundou o Serviço de Ginecologia no Hospital Universitário de Luanda. Introduziu a ventosa obstétrica e investigou acerca do uso deste método auxiliar do parto. Discussão: Jubilou-se da Faculdade de Medicina em 1973, como um Professor acarinhado e respeitado, pela sua honestidade, humildade e objetividade. Deixou uma escola de discípulos preparados para continuarem a garantir os melhores cuidados obstétricos. Manteve a sua atividade clínica e dedicou-se à sua família. Conclusão: Podemos considerar que os grandes legados desta figura incontornável da Obstetrícia Portuguesa foram o pioneirismo na introdução da ventosa obstétrica e a sua figura humana, que lhe trouxeram o mérito devido enquanto Professor Universitário e Médico. Introduction: António Gonçalves de Azevedo, born in 1903, in Matosinhos, was a University Professor, Physician and Researcher. He held the position of Director of FMUP. He is recognised as the pioneer in the introduction of the use of the vacuum extraction in Portugal. This dissertation aims to pay tribute to the life and work of this Professor. Material and Methods: A presential research was carried out at the FMUP Library and online at the University of Porto (UP) Archives and Repository. Three interviews were conducted with family members, close colleagues and disciples of the Professor. Results: He graduated as a Doctor from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto with distinction. He became a specialist in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, having Professor Morais Frias as his Master. He held important positions in the Júlio Dinis Maternity and in the São João Hospital. He had a prolific academic career in the Faculty that trained him, where he was Cathedratic Professor and later Director. He founded the Gynaecology Service at the Luanda University Hospital. He introduced the obstetric suction cup and investigated about the use of this auxiliary method of birth. Discussion: He retired from the Faculty of Medicine in 1973, as a cherished and respected Professor, for his honesty, humility and objectivity. He left a school of disciples prepared to continue to guarantee the best obstetric care. He maintained his clinical activity and dedicated the rest of his time to his family. Conclusion: We can consider that the great legacies of this inescapable figure in Portuguese Obstetrics were the pioneering work in the introduction of the obstetric suction cup and his human figure, which gave him the merit he deserved as a Professor and Doctor.

Background: Demographic aging is a reality in developed countries, which poses a social challenge of great responsibility. Thus, numerous studies have been developed in an attempt to understand which factors best predict healthy aging. The aim of this study was to investigate and systematize literature on intervention programs that simultaneously include cognitive stimulation and physical activity, understand the importance of the use of new technology in these programs, and understand their impact on cognitive function in older adults, giving indications about their contribution to healthy aging. Methods: A narrative approach was used for extraction and synthesis of the data. Relevant studies were identified from electronic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Academic Search Complete. Results: Thirty-two articles, involving 2815 participants, were identified. All selected studies were randomized controlled studies. The studies were published between 2011 and 2020. All studies included a combination of cognitive and physical interventions. Many of the studies used technology to administer the cognitive stimulation program. Conclusions: Most of the analyzed studies use new technologies in physical and cognitive interventions, demonstrating that this new form of intervention exerts lasting and stable benefits in cognition.

This study focuses on understanding the influence of low Sb doping on ZnO’s electrical, optical, and thermoelectrical properties, while also studying its structural and morphological parameters. For this, several ZnO films with varying Sb target current densities, in the range of 0–0.27 mA/cm2, were produced by DC magnetron sputtering in a confocal geometry. As a result, thin ZnO:Sb films with an average transparency in the visible region greater than 80% are obtained, revealing for optimized conditions an absolute Seebeck coefficient of 100 µV/K and a respective power factor of 1.1 mW·m−1·K−2 at 300 K, effectively modifying the electrical, optical, and thermoelectrical properties of the material and ensuring its suitability for heat harvesting applications. From atom probe tomography experiments, a larger Zn content is registered at triple junctions of the grain boundary, which matches the approximately 25 nm crystallite grain size derived from the X-ray diffraction analysis., This research is funded by FCT/PIDDAC through the Strategic Funds project reference UIDB/04650/2020-2023. Mestrado em Engenharia Alimentar na Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gest?o do Instituto Polit?cnico de Viana do Castelo Segundo a Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations (FAO) e a Organiza??o Mundial da Sa?de (OMS), o consumo de peixe deve ser cada vez mais recomendado numa alimenta??o equilibrada, uma vez que contribui para colmatar uma parte importante das necessidades dos seres humanos, ao n?vel dos ?cidos gordos, ?mega-3 e vitaminas, prevenindo o risco de doen?as cardiovasculares e favorecendo o desenvolvimento cognitivo normal. Por este motivo, ? fundamental a introdu??o de pescado nas receitas fornecidas pelas cantinas escolares, fazendo destas um espa?o privilegiado de educa??o para a sa?de, para a promo??o de estilos de vida saud?veis e para a igualdade social. A utiliza??o de revestimentos ed?veis ? uma t?cnica que pode proteger a qualidade dos produtos da pesca, aumentando o tempo de vida ?til, sem comprometer a frescura. Neste trabalho pretendeu-se desenvolver um filete de peixe Sarraj?o (Sarda sarda) enriquecido com prote?na atrav?s da aplica??o de revestimentos, por imers?o, ? base de prote?na animal (prote?na de soro de leite) e vegetal (prote?na de ervilha), e desta forma levar o pescado mais nutritivo at? ?s cantinas escolares. Para tal, numa primeira fase do trabalho, estudou-se o efeito da concentra??o e do tipo de prote?na, assim como o tempo de imers?o, da solu??o de revestimento, no teor de prote?na final do filete. O filete tamb?m foi caracterizado nutricionalmente. Depois estudou-se o efeito da adi??o de hidrocol?ides, como o alginato de s?dio e o agar-agar, ? solu??o proteica do revestimento no teor de prote?na final do filete, antes e ap?s confe??o. Posteriormente estudou-se o efeito do tempo de armazenamento do filete com revestimento ao longo de 8 dias em refrigera??o a 4 ?C. Finalmente, e numa ?ltima fase do trabalho, fez-se uma caracteriza??o sensorial e um estudo da aceitabilidade de consumidores dos filetes selecionados. Atrav?s dos resultados concluiu-se que a adi??o de 3 % de hidrocol?ides ? solu??o de revestimento proteico (10%) favoreceu o aumento do teor de prote?na dos filetes ap?s confe??o permitindo a alega??o, de acordo com o n?1924/2006, de ?teor de prote?na refor?ado? aos filetes de Sarraj?o. Tamb?m se concluiu que o tempo de imers?o mais adequado para esta t?cnica ? de 5 min. Com os resultados obtidos foi poss?vel concluir tamb?m que o teor de prote?na n?o sofreu altera??o ao longo de 8 dias de armazenamento. Quanto ? an?lise sensorial, o painel considerou o filete fortificado com 10 % de prote?na de soro de leite melhor do que o filete com 10 % prote?na de ervilha. No teste de aceitabilidade os consumidores consideraram o filete com 10 % de prote?na de soro de leite, confecionado 15 min a 180 ?C, apresentou maior aceitabilidade do que o filete com 10 % de prote?na de ervilha. Com este trabalho concluiu-se que foi poss?vel desenvolver e obter um filete fortificado com prote?na de soro de leite com alega??o nutricional de ??teor refor?ado em prote?na??, sabendo tamb?m que teve aceita??o por parte dos consumidores e que poder? ser introduzido, futuramente, nas ementas dos refeit?rios do Munic?pio de Esposende. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the consumption of fish should be increasingly recommended as part of a balanced diet, as it helps to meet an important part of human needs in terms of fatty acids, omega-3s and other vitamins, preventing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and encouraging normal cognitive development. For this reason, it is fundamental to introduce fish in the recipes provided by school canteens, making them a privileged space for health education, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and social equality. The use of edible coatings is a technique that can protect the quality of fish products, increasing the shelf life without compromising freshness. In this work, the aim was to develop a fillet of Sarraj?o fish (Sarda sarda) enriched with protein through the application of coatings, by immersion, based on animal protein (whey protein) and vegetable (pea protein), and thus bring the most nutritious fish to school canteens. To this end, in the first phase of the work, the effect of the concentration and type of protein, as well as the immersion time of the coating solution, on the final protein content of the fillet, was studied. The fillets were also characterised nutritionally. Then the effect of adding hydrocolloids, such as sodium alginate and agar-agar, to the coating protein solution on the final protein content of the fillet before and after cooking was studied. Afterwards, the effect of the storage time of the coated fillet was studied for 8 days in refrigeration at 4 ?C. Finally, and in a last phase of the work, a sensorial characterisation and a study of the acceptability of the selected fillets to consumers were carried out. Through the results it was concluded that the addition of 3 % hydrocolloids to the protein coating solution favoured an increase in the protein content of the fillets after cooking, allowing the claim, according to the n?1924/2006, of "increased protein content" to the Sarraj?o fillets. It was also concluded that the most appropriate immersion time for this technique is 5 min. With the results obtained it was also possible to conclude that the protein content did not change over 8 days of storage. As for the sensory analysis, the panel considered the fillet fortified with whey protein to be better than the fillet with 10 % pea protein. In the acceptability test, the consumers considered that the fillet with 10 % whey protein, cooked for 5 min at 180 ?C, had a higher acceptability than the fillet with 10 % pea protein. With this work, it was concluded that it was possible to develop and obtain a fillet fortified with whey protein with the nutritional claim of ''increased protein content'', knowing also that it was accepted by consumers and that it may be introduced, in the future, in the menus of cafeterias of the Municipality of Esposende.

O mercado biológico de produtos alimentares tem vindo a crescer substancialmente nos últimos anos, tendo-se tornado numa tendência. Tal devese ao facto de a sociedade se revelar mais consciente relativamente à relação entre a sua alimentação e a sua saúde e o meio ambiente. Este trabalho, realizado no âmbito de um estágio curricular, consistiu num estudo de caso e o seu principal objetivo foi identificar possíveis estratégias ou ações nas quais as empresas possam apostar de maneira a aumentar e solidificar a sua presença neste mercado. Assim, foi analisada a perspetiva da oferta através de entrevistas, e a perspetiva da procura através de inquéritos. Os resultados obtidos indicam que, de facto, é a preocupação com a saúde e o ambiente a grande motivadora do consumo destes produtos, e o preço o maior entrave à mesma. Relativamente à perspetiva da oferta, o crescente aumento desta necessidade do consumidor foi considerada a maior motivação para atuar neste mercado e preço foi considerado o maior desafio relativo a este mercado. Conclui-se que, tanto os consumidores, como a empresa, prevêem que este é um mercado que irá continuar a crescer no futuro, no entanto, tal crescimento poderá ser comprometido pelo futuro da economia. É possível concluir também que seria importante para a empresa na qual foi realizado o estudo, apostar em campanhas e estratégias de marketing direcionadas especificamente a este mercado, de maneira a garantir a informação do consumidor, não só em relação a esta gama de produtos, mas também em relação aos valores da marca e do seu posicionamento em relação a comportamentos e ações que este mercado espera. The organic market has grown substantially in recent years and has become a trend. This happened because the society is more aware of the relation between its food choices and its health and the environment. This work consisted in a case study and its main purpose was to identify possible actions or strategies that companies can bet on in order to increase their presence in this market. Thus, the supply perspective was analyzed through interviews, and the demand perspective was analyzed through a survey. The results tell us that it is the concern with health and the environment that is the greatest motivator for the consumption of these products, and the price is the biggest obstacle to it. Regarding the supplier perspective, the growing of this need in the market was considered the biggest motivation to act in it and the price the biggest challenge. We conclude that both consumers and the company predict that this is a market that will continue to grow in the future, however, such growth may be compromised by the future of the economy. Regarding the obtained results, it was concluded that it would be important for the company in which the internship took place to invest in marketing campaigns and strategies specifically targeted for this market, in order to ensure consumer information, not only regarding this range of products, but also the brand values and its positioning regarding to behaviors and actions that this market requires. A demografia portuguesa e europeia da época moderna encontra-se desenvolvida ao ponto de podermos estabelecer padrões e encontrar semelhanças e particularidades em várias regiões. Este artigo tem como objetivo perceber se a paróquia de Serpins se insere nesses padrões, nomeadamente os ritmos de nupcialidade, durante o reinado de D. José I (1750-1777). A diversidade cultural constitui um fenómeno cada vez mais frequente dentro das organizações, nomeadamente, nas organizações portuguesas. Dados do Relatório Estatístico Anual de Indicadores de Integração de Imigrantes 2021 apontam para um aumento de 57,1% do número de trabalhadores estrangeiros por conta de outrem entre os anos de 2011 e 2019, em Portugal. Deste modo, torna-se fundamental as organizações manterem/ melhorarem as suas estratégias de inclusão, integração e retenção da força de trabalho atualizadas. O objetivo deste artigo é expor a pertinência e complexidade do tema, e sugerir soluções que possam ajudar as organizações a gerir melhor a diversidade cultural que albergam de forma a aumentarem o bem-estar organizacional. Para complementar este estudo recorremos a uma metodologia mista constituída por: um inquérito (pesquisa quantitativa), durante 12 dias, à população portuguesa com o intuito de perceber qual o impacto da diversidade cultural na sua satisfação enquanto trabalhador, no qual obtivemos 250 respostas; e 3 entrevistas semiestruturadas (pesquisa qualitativa) realizadas a 3 profissionais imigrantes e de diferentes nacionalidades de uma instituição de ensino superior pública de renome em Portugal, que tiveram a duração média de 45 minutos. A pesquisa qualitativa revelou-se fulcral para o desenvolvimento deste artigo, pois permitiu-nos identificar uma das lacunas existentes nas organizações com diversidade cultural - programas de integração generalizados. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is often associated with a vast list of gait-associated disabilities, for which there is still a limited pharmacological/surgical treatment efficacy. Therefore, alternative approaches have emerged as vibrotactile biofeedback systems (VBS). This review aims to focus on the technologies supporting VBS and identify their effects on improving gait-associated disabilities by verifying how VBS were applied and validated with end-users. It is expected to furnish guidance to researchers looking to enhance the effectiveness of future vibrotactile cueing systems. The use of vibrotactile cues has proved to be relevant and attractive, as positive results have been obtained in patients’ gait performance, suitability in any environment, and easy adherence. There seems to be a preference in developing VBS to mitigate freezing of gait, to improve balance, to overcome the risk of fall, and a prevalent use to apply miniaturized wearable actuators and sensors. Most studies implemented a biofeedback loop able to provide rescue strategies during or after the detection of a gait-associated disability. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common malignancy skin cancer. It is characterized by abnormal, accelerated growth of squamous cells (SCs). SCC occurs when DNA damage from exposure to ultraviolet radiation or other damaging agents trigger abnormal changes in the SCs, presenting as painless lesions on areas of high sun exposure, such as the dorsum of the hand and upper extremity. For most skin SCC, the surgical excision alone is standard practice. However, recent efforts in new treatment strategies have involved around adjuvant or concomitant electrochemotherapy (ECT). ECT is a non-thermal tumor ablation modality, safe and effective on any type of solid tumor. An 87-year-old patient affected by hand SCC with invasion of deep structures including tendons was treated with neoadjuvant intra-tumoral ECT sessions followed by a selective surgical removal and reconstruction of the substance loss with collagen dermal template (CDT). Two neoadjuvant intra-tumoral ECT procedures, at distance of 3 months, with the aim to reduce the tumor size before a selective surgery, were performed. This study shows that combined surgical selective excision with ECT and CDT is a valid technique for the extended-deep dorsal hand tumor lesions reconstruction.

Objetivo: analisou-se a prevalência de edentulismo e fatores associados em pacientes atendidos na Clí­nica Escola de odontologia em um Centro Universitário privado de João Pessoa – PB. Método: trata-se de um estudo descritivo, de natureza qualitativa, transversal realizado no perí­odo de agosto de 2017 até dezembro de 2019. O instrumento foi prontuários clí­nicos. O total da amostra foi 236 prontuários. Resultados: houve prevalência do sexo feminino (65%), faixa etária de cinquenta anos ou mais (36,9%), casados (51,6%), com renda mensal entre 501 e 1500 reais (43,1%), escolaridade fundamental incompleto (28,6%), última ida ao dentista a pelo menos 1 ano (53,7%), não fumantes (71,1%), faz higiene bucal 2 vezes ao dia (60,2%). As Atas do X SNIP representam a relevância deste Simpósio Nacional de Investigação em Psicologia na difusão do conhecimento produzido em Portugal nesta área científica. Estas Atas são publicadas, pela segunda vez, na revista PSICOLOGIA, o órgão de difusão científica da Associação Portuguesa de Psicologia. Dado que a revista se encontra indexada em diferentes bases de dados internacionais e nacionais, cremos que estes trabalhos poderão atingir uma comunidade de investigadores bastante alargada, permitindo que a investigação realizada em Portugal desperte o interesse de académicos e profissionais da psicologia em diferentes partes do mundo.

O principal objetivo deste trabalho académico para conclusão de Mestrado é a aplicabilidade da metodologia Balanced Scorecard (BSC) numa pequena e média empresa (PME) do ramo imobiliário habitacional, setor que, em Portugal, apresenta ainda uma reduzida cultura de gestão estratégica e um déficit de competitividade organizacional. A conceção e implementação do BSC potencia o alinhamento do plano estratégico com as atividades operacionais, sendo expresso num mapa estratégico que permite perceber os objetivos (financeiros e não financeiros), iniciativas, indicadores e metas para cada umas das quatro perspetivas. Possibilita também a avaliação global do desempenho da empresa e do grau de cumprimento efetivo da sua estratégia. Para a execução deste estudo, assinala-se a revisão da literatura associada à gestão estratégica e à implementação do BSC. Recorrendo a uma abordagem qualitativa, a metodologia assenta nas pesquisas bibliográfica e documental e no estudo de caso. Através de entrevistas informais à Administração e colaboradores e da observação direta de procedimentos, foi possível recolher, em fontes variadas, informação para proceder à análise interna e externa, identificar os fatores críticos de sucesso (FCS) e, posteriormente, desenhar os Indicadores-Chave de Desempenho (KPI’s). Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que o BSC melhora o desempenho da empresa e complementa a informação financeira com as demais perspetivas que lhe acrescentam valor, podendo servir de referencial para diferenciais competitivos na sua intervenção no mercado imobiliário. O estudo apresenta limitações ao nível da implementação e abrangência do BSC, mas que são suscetíveis de gerar oportunidades de melhoria e concretização futura.

O relatório apresentado tem como propósito expor todos os conhecimentos e competências adquiridas provenientes da realização de um estágio no Hotel Acta The Avenue, no âmbito do Mestrado em Gestão Turística, para obtenção do grau mestre. O mesmo decorreu num período de 6 meses, tendo início em abril e término em setembro de 2021. Através das várias experiências no estágio, em departamentos distintos, este relatório pretende identificar e descrever todas as atividades efetuadas nos mesmos e fazer uma análise crítica com vista à melhoria da qualidade dos serviços prestados nesta unidade hoteleira. Assim, e tendo em conta a estrutura definida, para introduzir a temática em hotelaria, é feito num primeiro momento uma revisão de literatura, onde são abordadas as temáticas da importância do Turismo e a Hotelaria em Portugal e da Pandemia Covid- 19, especificamente da situação pandémica atual e como o desencadear da mesma tem vindo a afetar este setor. Num segundo momento é caracterizada a entidade hoteleira, desde características da mesma à análise do seu meio envolvente. Segue-se uma descrição de todas as atividades desempenhadas ao longo do estágio nos vários departamentos, com destaque para a Receção, local onde se desempenhou em grande parte o estágio. Complementando as atividades, surgem as sugestões de melhorias e novas ideias a serem propostas para implementação na unidade em questão. De um modo geral, a realização deste estágio e posteriormente o presente relatório, contribuíram para a amplificação do leque de conhecimentos que foram lecionados ao longo do Mestrado com consequente aquisição de competências, possibilitando no futuro uma melhor aplicação e desempenho das mesmos. ABSTRACT: The purpose of this report is to expose all the knowledge and skills acquired, arising from the completion of an internship at the Acta The Avenue Hotel, as part of a Master in Tourism Management, to obtain a master's degree from the School of Technology and Management of Viseu. The internship took place over a period of 6 months, starting in april and ending in september 2021. In the course of several internship experiences, in different departments, this report aims to identify all the activities carried out on those departments. To introduce the theme in Hospitality, a literature review is first performed, where the importance of Tourism and Hospitality in Portugal is addressed, followed by an approach to the current pandemic situation of Covid-19 and how its onset has been affecting this sector. In a second moment, the hotel entity is characterized, from its characteristics to the analysis of its surroundings. There follows a description of all the activities performed in the various departments, with emphasis on Reception, where most of the internship took place. Complementing the activities, follow the proposals for improvements and new ideas to be implemented in the unit aborded. In general, the completion of this internship and later the report, contributed to the expansion of the range of knowledge that was taught throughout the master's degree, enabling in the future a better application and performance in this area.

Este relatório teve como propósito analisar e refletir sobre o estágio pedagógico realizado na escola básica e secundária Rainha D. Leonor de Lencastre. O estágio decorreu em regime de supervisão pedagógica, integrado no mestrado em ensino da educação física nos ensinos básico e secundário. O estágio pedagógico é o momento, por excelência, para a desmistificação da lecionação. Sendo o momento para experienciar a atividade docente em todas as suas vertentes, com a segurança de uma orientação organizada. É um momento de partilha com os pares e com os docentes, tendo a oportunidade de integrar o grupo de trabalho organizado e com experiência profissional. Este documento foi concebido de modo a relatar o meu percurso, realçando e refletindo sobre os momentos de maior impacto e a contextualização das decisões pedagógicas. Está estruturado de acordo com as quatro áreas de intervenção pedagógica em que o estágio está organizado. This report intended to analyze and reflect on the pedagogical internship performed in the primary and secondary school Rainha D. Leonor de Lencastre. The internship took place under pedagogical supervision, integrated in the master's degree in physical education teaching in basic and secondary education. The pedagogical internship is the moment, par excellence, for the demystification of teaching. Being the time to experience the teaching activity in all its aspects, with the security of an organized orientation. It is a moment of sharing with peers and teachers, having the opportunity to join the organized and professionally experienced working group. This document was conceived to report my journey, highlighting and reflecting on the moments of greatest impact and the contextualization of pedagogical decisions. It is structured according to the four areas of pedagogical intervention in which the internship is organized.

Affective lability is a central feature of several emotional disturbances and is linked to aggressive and risky behaviors. This study aimed to analyze the psychometric properties of the Affective Lability Scale-18 (ALS-18) among a community sample and a sample of justice-involved adults. We also aimed to test the measurement invariance between sex and sample type. Results revealed good to excellent values of internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the original three-factor structure of the ALS-18 obtained good fits. The ALS-18 demonstrated measurement invariance across sex and sample type. The results support that ALS-18 is a valuable brief and useful measure of affective lability among male and female individuals for use in community and justice samples.

Individuals with a history of child maltreatment (CM) tend to show high affective lability (AL) and criminal behavior. However, positive childhood experiences (PCEs) may act as a protective factor even in the presence of child maltreatment.The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between CM, PCEs, and AL in adulthood, identify the predictors of AL and analyze the moderating role of PCEs in the relationship between CM and AL in a sample of 424 incarcerated men (n = 343) and women (n = 81), aged between 18 and 73 years (M = 37.88).Participants responded to an online protocol consisting of a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), the Benevolent Childhood Experiences Scale (BCEs), and the Affective Lability Scale - Short Version (ALS-18).CM was positively associated with AL and negatively associated with PCEs, and PCEs are negatively associated with AL. Regression analyses, after controlling for age, sex, and education, confirmed the role of PCEs on AL, above and beyond CM. However, moderation analysis showed that PCEs did not moderate the relationship between CM and AL for either men or women.These results highlight the complexity of human development and behavior from early childhood into adulthood. Further studies are needed to better understand the role of PCEs in the relationship between ACEs and AL among inmates in order to develop more appropriate prevention and intervention programs.

As úlceras por pressão são um importante problema de saúde que afeta todos os doentes em todos os contextos de cuidados, com particular relevância nas Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos. A utilização de instrumentos que ajudem a estimar o risco de desenvolvimento de úlceras por pressão, que sejam sensíveis, específicos e fáceis de aplicar, melhoram a qualidade dos cuidados de enfermagem e a qualidade de vida dos doentes, diminuindo os custos em saúde. Neste relatório estão descritos os passos do projeto de intervenção desenvolvido durante o Estágio Final com o tema «Avaliação do risco de Úlceras por pressão na Pessoa em Situação Crítica: Comparação da Escala de Braden com a Escala Revista Cubbin&Jackson». Este projeto foi baseado na metodologia de projeto e teve como objetivo geral propor a aplicação da escala Cubbin&Jackson na Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos. A reflexão crítica deve fazer parte do percurso de aquisição de competências, pelo apresentamos uma análise e reflexão fundamentada do nosso percurso de aquisição de competências comuns e especificas do Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem Médico-cirúrgica-Pessoa em Situação Crítica e competências de Mestre em Enfermagem.

Simple Summary Spermatozoa (SPZ) viability, morphology and the kinetics of fresh and thawing Portuguese Merino Semen were evaluated at different breeding season months using an owner egg yolk-based semen extender (S-EXT) and two commercial lecithin-based semen extenders. The main significant differences between S-EXT were observed for thawed semen. The viability (30% vs. 15% of alive SPZ; p < 0.001), total motility (74% vs. 34%; p < 0.001), total progressive motility (18% vs. 5%; p < 0.001), straight line velocity (37 vs. 22 μm/s; p < 0.001) and beat cross frequency (13 vs. 6 Hz; p < 0.05) were higher in the owner egg yolk than in egg yolk-free-based S-EXT. Significant interactions between S-EXT, semen processing and/or months of semen collection were observed on several of the 22 evaluated SPZ parameters and should be elucidated in further studies. The egg yolk-based S-EXT was more consistent across the months in cryopreserving SPZ than commercial egg yolk- free-based S-EXT and still seems, to the present day, the most appropriate S-EXT to be used in (Merino) sheep. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of three semen extenders (S-EXT) on 22 spermatozoa (SPZ) parameters (subjective and computer-assisted sperm analysis evaluations), before and after semen cryopreservation throughout different months of the breeding season in the Portuguese Merino breed. According to the multivariable model, the SPZ viability (alive %), kinetics subjective individual motility, total motility, total progressive motility and its subpopulations, and beat cross frequency) were higher in the egg yolk-based S-EXT improved by Estação Zootécnica National (Portugal) than in Ovixcell® or Andromed® extenders. All the differences were only observed in thawed semen, except for total motility and total progressive motility, in which Ovixcell® also showed the poorest results on fresh semen. An interaction effect between S-EXT and semen processing was observed on 72.3% (17/22) of the evaluated parameters, evidencing a variable cryoprotective action between S-EXT. The SPZ viability was poorer in the onset of the breeding season (end of April/early May) than in the previous middle breeding season (November/early December), suggesting the influence of a short anoestrous season on ejaculate quality, even though the volume and SPZ concentration of the ejaculates remained stable throughout the experiment. Additionally, S-EXT x semen processing x month interaction effect on 59.1% (13/22) of the evaluated parameters evidenced the importance of SPZ time collection in a natural environment to cryopreserve ram’s semen. We concluded that, overall, the egg yolk-based S-EXT provided a greater value to the cryopreservation of Merino rams´ semen. Nevertheless, the causes of the interaction effect between S-EXT, semen processing and/or month on several SPZ parameters should be addressed, including SPZ molecular research in new studies, in order to improve egg yolk-based as well as in egg yolk-free-based S-EXT.

Mammals are threatened worldwide, with ~26% of all species being included in the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associated with habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mammals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion for marine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems functionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is crucial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS IN PORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublished georeferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mammals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira that includes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occurring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live observations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%), bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent less than 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrows | soil mounds | tunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animal | hair | skulls | jaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8), observation in shelters, (9) photo trapping | video, (10) predators diet | pellets | pine cones/nuts, (11) scat | track | ditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalization | echolocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and 100 m (76%). Rodentia (n=31,573) has the highest number of records followed by Chiroptera (n=18,857), Carnivora (n=18,594), Lagomorpha (n=17,496), Cetartiodactyla (n=11,568) and Eulipotyphla (n=7008). The data set includes records of species classified by the IUCN as threatened (e.g., Oryctolagus cuniculus [n=12,159], Monachus monachus [n=1,512], and Lynx pardinus [n=197]). We believe that this data set may stimulate the publication of other European countries data sets that would certainly contribute to ecology and conservation-related research, and therefore assisting on the development of more accurate and tailored conservation management strategies for each species. Bradykinetic, shuffling and shorter steps are prototypical signs of gait in Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and important indicators of Quality of Life (QoL). Advances in wearable technologies enabled their use to objectively evaluate these gait fluctuations complementing the subjective categorical clinical scales usually used by clinicians. This paper aims to study the ability of a wearable gait analysis lab, developed by our team, to serve as a biomarker of PD motor stages and an indicator of patients’ QoL. We accomplished experimental tests which involved repeated measurements of walking trials from a crosssection study with eighteen PD patients and thirteen healthy subjects. We measured gait spatiotemporal parameters and cross these data with commonly PD-scales to assess motor symptoms (UPDRS-III) and quantify patients’ QoL (PDQ39). Patients presented a bradykinetic gait with shorter steps, variability and asymmetry in spatiotemporal parameters. These prototypical signs were also observed along the disease progression considering UPDRS-III and PDQ39 levels. Background: Wearable monitoring devices based on inertial sensors have the potential to be used as a quantitative method in clinical practice for continuous assessment of gait disabilities in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods: This manuscript introduces a new gait monitoring system adapted to patients with PD, based on a wearable monitoring device. To eliminate inter- and intra-subject variability, the computational method was based on heuristic rules with adaptive thresholds and ranges and a motion compensation strategy. The experimental trials involved repeated measurements of walking trials from two cross-sectional studies: the first study was performed in order to validate the effectiveness of the system against a robust 3D motion analysis with 10 healthy subjects; and the second-one aimed to validate our approach against a well-studied wearable IMU-based system on a hospital environment with 20 patients with PD. Results: The proposed system proved to be efficient (Experiment I: sensitivity = 95,09% and accuracy = 93,64%; Experiment II: sensitivity = 99,53% and accuracy = 97,42%), time-effective (Experiment I: earlies = 13,71 ms and delays = 12,91 ms; Experiment II: earlies = 12,94 ms and delays = 12,71 ms), user and user-motion adaptable and a low computational-load strategy for real-time gait events detection. Further, it was measured the percentage of absolute error classified with a good acceptability (Experiment I: 3,02 ≤ ε%≤12,94; Experiment II: 2,81 ≤ ε%≤13,45). Lastly, regarding the measured gait parameters, it was observed a reflection of the typical levels of motor impairment for the different disease stages.
