Background Blepharospasm is a focal dystonia that affects the orbicularis oculi muscles. The interest in nonmotor symptoms is due to their impact on quality of life. Objective We evaluated the frequency of sleep disorders and circadian rhythm in a sample of Brazilian blepharospasm patients. Methods A total of 51 patients, who met the clinical criteria for blepharospasm, evaluated by 2 specialists in movement disorders, were recruited from the outpatient clinic for movement disorders of two reference centers in the city of São Paulo: Universidade Federal de São Paulo and Hospital do Servidor Público do Estado de São Paulo. The selected 13 patients were evaluated from 13 days before to 13 days after using botulinum toxin. They were interviewed, underwent physical examination and actigraphy, and completed sleep diaries. Results After using botulinum toxin, the group that reported sleep improvement exhibited a 50% decrease in sleep latency. There was no change in restless leg syndrome or circadian rhythm. Patients who reported no sleep improvement after using botulinum toxin presented poorer synchronization of the light-dark cycle. Conclusion Blepharospasm patients have poor sleep quality. About 50% of the patients had sleep improvement after using botulinum toxin. The synchronization of the light-dark cycle should be influenced by this finding.

Final dos anos de 1970 e início dos anos de 1980 marcaram o estopim de estudos que tinham como objetivo buscar informações sobre a saúde do homem, sendo o Brasil um país em que a passos lentos insere essa questão no âmbito da saúde pública. Nesse cenário, surge uma preocupação: o crescimento substancial de doenças do aparelho digestório entre indivíduos do sexo masculino. Objetivo: Verificar o perfil epidemiológico dos óbitos de indivíduos do sexo masculino por doenças desenvolvidas no aparelho digestivo causadas pelo alcoolismo. Metodologia: O estudo desenvolvido trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, de caráter exploratório e com uma abordagem quantitativa, tipo de estudo que tem o objetivo de buscar de dados numéricos para validar hipóteses, rejeitá-las ou a título informativo. Resultados e discussão: Para realizar a coleta de dados, foi realizada uma pesquisa nos dados públicos do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS), e no Sistema de Informação de Agravos e Notificação (SINAN), os quais são incluídos os casos de doenças do aparelho digestivo. Pelo fato de ser uma pesquisa realizada com dados de domínio público, não foi necessário a aprovação do respectivo comitê de ética. A pesquisa realizada demonstra a importância da análise de dados relativos às consequências de doenças do aparelho digestivo ocasionadas pelo alcoolismo, logo, análises desse tipo poderão auxiliar futuramente novos estudos a respeito desse cenário e o desenvolvimento de métodos que evitem o grande crescimento de patologias desse tipo. Conclusão: Com isso, espera-se que o objetivo principal seja alcançado: a disseminação de informações a respeito dessas respectivas doenças e a sua relação com o alcoolismo., Keywords: Digestive System. The high body fat percentage incresed risk of cardiovascular and metabolic. To evaluate the influence of body fat on inflammatory markers and cardiometabolic risk factors in female adolescents. Cross-sectional study with 555 female adolescents, aged 10 to 19 years. The Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. Body fat percentage was obtained by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) equipment. Were evaluated systolic and diastolic blood pressures, fasting glucose levels, insulin, lipid profile, uric acid, and inflammatory markers (Interleukin 6 - IL-6, Interleukin 10 - IL-10, high-sensitivity C Reactive Protein – hs-CRP, Tumor Necrosis Factor - TNF-α, Leptin, and Tumor Necrosis Factor - TNF-α). The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed to verify the distribution of the variables, and the Pearson and Spearman correlation tests were used according to the characteristics of the variables. Linear regression analyses were performed. A statistical significance level of 5% was adopted. Increased body fat in adolescent girls relates to increased values of blood pressure, lipid profile, insulin, uric acid, leptin and IL-6. The increasing one percent body fat increases uric acid by 1.22 mg/dL and leptin by 0.0005 pg/mL, suggesting that for these two markers, eutrophic adolescents with high percent body fat show similar behavior as obese adolescents (with high BMI and body fat). The highlight the need to assess body composition in adolescents to identify those with higher fat percentage, since, even with normal weight, they may present increased risk of developing cardiovascular and metabolic complications at this stage of life, which may be maintained or worsened in adulthood.

Nutrition education provides basic requirements for health promotion and protection; moreover, it enhances human growth and development with quality of life and citizenship. In this sense, the objective of this work was to guide students and the academic community - among other audiences - about proper nutrition in times of pandemic through social media and teleconsultation. To this end, an Instagram profile and a website called "nutrition in action" were created, in which several posts with various topics about food and health were made available. To enable nutritional guidance through teleconsultations, a material was built by the project team to guide nurses, nursing students, and nutritionists regarding the care provided in the nursing office. Given the amount of fake news and orientations diverging from the appropriate scientific literature, it was concluded that it is extremely relevant to guide the non-academic population about proper nutrition through digital media and teleconsultations.

Background: Excess adiposity is one of the main risk factors for the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The purpose of this study is to compare cardiometabolic risk factors in eutrophic adolescents with a high body fat percentage (%BF) with eutrophic adolescents with adequate %BF and those with excess weight and %BF. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 1043 adolescents. This study presented power equal to 99.75%. Body fat and anthropometric, clinical and biochemical indicators were evaluated. Participants were grouped according to body composition classified by body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage. Statistical analyses were performed using R software version 4.0.2, adopting a significance level of 5%. The Mann–Whitney test, principal components analysis and logistic regression were performed. Results: It was observed that the SG was more similar to GC2 than to GC1 for both sexes, demonstrating that there was a greater similarity between these groups in relation to the evaluated factors. Higher values for TC, SBP and TG were associated with the SG when the CG1 was used as reference, controlled for sex and age. Likewise, higher TC values and lower levels of SBP, TG and LDL were related to SG when the CG2 was used as reference. Conclusion: Body fat assessment is more effective in predicting risk factors and cardiometabolic diseases than BMI alone.

Escritor, jornalista, crítico literário, fundador do Partido Comunista Brasileiro (1922), Astrojildo Pereira (1890-1965) entrou para a história da literatura brasileira como protagonista no célebre episódio da “última despedida” de Machado de Assis, imortalizado na crônica de Euclides da Cunha. Leitor rigoroso da obra machadiana, Astrojildo Pereira foi dos primeiros críticos a descartar a interpretação acerca da indiferença de Machado de Assis em relação aos assuntos políticos e históricos no Brasil da segunda metade do século XIX, exposto em seu ensaio mais famoso, “Machado de Assis, romancista do Segundo Reinado”. O objetivo do presente artigo é propor uma leitura do referido texto, tendo em vista os respectivos suportes de publicação, na Revista do Brasil (1939), e republicação, nos livros Interpretações (1944) e Machado de Assis, ensaios e apontamentos avulsos (1959), em conexão com a conjuntura político-cultural no Brasil, nessas três décadas.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é avaliar as potencialidades dos indicadores do estado nutricional de iodo em indivíduos ou populações. A revisão foi baseada no PRISMA. A busca pelos artigos ocorreu em janeiro de 2019, nas bases Pubmed, Scopus e LILACS, utilizando a combinação “indicadores AND estado nutricional AND iodo”. A seleção seguiu as etapas de exclusão dos duplicados, leitura de títulos e resumos e análise na íntegra. A qualidade metodológica dos estudos foi avaliada pelo instrumento de Downs e Black. Foram identificados 178 estudos e 20 foram incluídos. A Concentração Urinária de Iodo (CUI) foi analisada em 65% dos estudos e foi considerado o melhor indicador para avaliar o estado nutricional de iodo populacional. A tiroglobulina foi determinada em 20% dos estudos e refletiu o estado de iodo pregresso. O hormônio estimulante da tireoide foi verificado em 45% dos artigos e mostrou-se sensível para a vigilância de deficiência de iodo em recém-nascidos. Apenas um estudo avaliou o iodo no cabelo, útil para analisar a ingestão dietética em longo prazo. Na avaliação da qualidade metodológica, a menor pontuação foi 12, e a maior 16, em 17 pontos possíveis. Para diagnóstico de deficiência e excesso de iodo na população, recomenda-se a CUI. Abstract The scope of this article is to evaluate the potentialities of indicators of the nutritional status of iodine in individuals or populations. The review was based on PRISMA. The search for articles occurred in January 2019, in the Pubmed, Scopus and LILACS databases, using the key words: indicators AND nutritional status AND iodine. The selection followed the stages of excluding the duplicates, reading the titles, abstracts and analyses in full. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated by the Downs and Black instrument. A total of 178 studies were identified and 20 were included. Urinary Iodine Concentration (UIC) was analyzed in 65% of the studies and was considered the best indicator to evaluate the nutritional status of iodine in the population. Thyroglobulin was determined in 20% of the studies and reflected the pre-existing state of iodine. Thyroid stimulating hormone was verified in 45% of the articles and was important for the surveillance of iodine deficiency among newborns. Only one study evaluated capillary iodine, useful for analyzing long-term dietary intake. In the evaluation of methodological quality, the lowest score was 12 and the highest 16, in 17 possible points. The use of UIC is recommended for the diagnosis of deficiency and excess of iodine in the population.

A matriz extracelular (MEC) trata-se de um componente não celular presente em todos os tecidos e órgãos e atua não apenas como uma estrutura física importante para os constituintes celulares, mas também como ponto de partida para eventos bioquímicos e biomecânicos essenciais para a morfogênese, diferenciação e homeostase do tecido. A MEC é composta de um conjunto complexo de proteínas fibrosas, proteoglicanos e outras moléculas, tais como citocinas, fatores de crescimento e hormônios, cuja composição varia de tecido para tecido e é alterada frente a diferentes condições fisiológicas (renovação e reparo tecidual) e associadas às doenças, incluindo câncer, razão pela qual componentes da MEC são denominados como Hallmarks do câncer. Neste contexto, a remodelação da MEC é uma das estratégias que os tumores utilizam para criar um microambiente que promove a tumorigênese e metástase através de diferentes mecanismos. Nesta revisão as características funcionais da MEC serão abordadas e também destacado o entendimento atual dos mecanismos físicos, celulares e moleculares pelos quais a MEC do tumor afeta a eficiência da quimioterapia, radioterapia e imunoterapia.

An 84-year-old female, with history of endometrial and gallbladder adenocarcinomas, both submitted to curative surgeries, was admitted to the emergency room with obstructive jaundice. Computed tomography and subsequent magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed a common hepatic duct stenosis with intrahepatic biliary dilatation. She underwent percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography with successful biliary drainage. During the same admission, the patient experienced episodes of hematochezia. Rectosigmoidoscopy showed a 20 mm ulcer in the distal rectum and congestion of the rectal mucosa. Computed tomography revealed rectal wall circumferential thickening. Ulcer biopsies were compatible with a neoplasia of biliary origin.

En ese sentido, el objetivo del presente trabajo fue orientar a estudiantes y comunidad académica —entre otros públicos— sobre alimentación adecuada en tiempos de pandemia a través de redes sociales y teleconsultas. Para ello, se creó un perfil de Instagram y un sitio web denominado “nutrición en acción”, en el que se dispuso de varios posts con temas variados sobre alimentación y salud, un material para orientar a enfermeras, estudiantes de enfermería y nutricionistas en cuanto a consultas en el consultorio de enfermería Dada la cantidad de noticias falsas y lineamientos divergentes en relación a la literatura científica adecuada, se concluyó que es de suma relevancia orientar a la población no académica sobre una alimentación adecuada por medio de comunicación digital y teleconsultas. A educação nutricional fornece requisitos básicos para a promoção e a proteção da saúde; além disso, ela potencializa o crescimento e o desenvolvimento humano com qualidade de vida e cidadania. Nesse sentido, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi orientar os estudantes e a comunidade acadêmica — entre outros públicos — sobre a alimentação adequada em tempos de pandemia a partir das mídias sociais e teleconsultas. Para tanto, foi criado um perfil no Instagram e um site denominado "nutrição em ação”, nos quais foram disponibilizados diversos posts com assuntos variados sobre alimentação e saúde. Para viabilizar orientações nutricionais por meio de teleconsultas, foi construído, pela equipe do projeto, um material para orientar enfermeiros, estudantes de enfermagem e nutricionistas no que diz respeito aos atendimentos no consultório de enfermagem. Diante da quantidade de fake news e orientações divergentes em relação à literatura científica adequada, concluiu-se ser extremamente relevante orientar a população não acadêmica sobre a alimentação adequada por meios de comunicação digital e por teleconsultas.

Poster session 2, September 22, 2022, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Introduction Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic mycosis caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. The disease is restricted to Latin America. It is the principal systemic mycosis in Brazil, with higher incidences in the southern, southeastern and central regions. Objectives It's to report a case of paracoccioidomycosis with a bizarre presentation on the face. Case Report A 54-year-old male farmer from Açailândia, Maranhão, with a history of an extensive ulcerated lesion that started in the right wing of the nose. After 6 months of evolution, the lesion had already spread reaching the nasal and oral mucosa, evolving with acute respiratory failure, requiring tracheostomy (Fig.1). He was referred to the Cancer Hospital for a biopsy, which was referred for pathological examination, showing an intense inflammatory infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes, histiocytes, neutrophilis with giant, multinucleated cells that phagocytize refrigerant bodies, compatible with paracoccidioidomycosis. Material sent for direct examination and culture, showed positive for Paracoccidioides sp. After PCR amplification of the genetic material and sequencing, P. brasiliensis was identified. Chest tomography showed sparse ground-glass attenuation, but affecting both lungs and radiodense striations in the lower lobes bilaterally. Treatment was established with liposomal amphotericin B, with a good therapeutic response (Fig. 2). The patient was discharged from the hospital using itraconazole and still upper outpatient follow-up, with good healing of the lesions. Conclusion Paracoccidioidomycosis can get a severe presentation, distancing the physician from the diagnosis, showing that in all these situations, simple tests, such as the direct examination of lesional material or sputum can elucidate the diagnosis. We need to think about it in endemic area.
