One of the most critical factors in producing plastic injection molds is the cost estimation of machining services, which significantly affects the final mold price. These services’ costs are determined according to the machining time, which is usually a long and expensive operation. If it is considered that the injection mold parts are all different, it can be understood that the correct and quick estimation of machining times is of great importance for a company’s success. This article presents a proposal to apply artificial neural networks in machining time estimation for standard injection mold parts. For this purpose, a large set of parts was considered to shape the artificial intelligence model, and machining times were calculated to collect enough data for training the neural networks. The influences of the network architecture, input data, and the variables used in the network’s training were studied to find the neural network with greatest prediction accuracy. The application of neural networks in this work proved to be a quick and efficient way to predict cutting times with a percent error of 2.52% in the best case. The present work can strongly contribute to the research in this and similar sectors, as recent research does not usually focus on the direct prediction of machining times relating to overall production cost. This tool can be used in a quick and efficient manner to obtain information on the total machining cost of mold parts, with the possibility of being applied to other industry sectors

The aim of present study was to develop the Portuguese version of the Silent Interparental Conflict Scale (SICS). This research examined the psychometric properties of this scale that evaluates marker characteristics of silent conflict and its perceived costs and benefits for individuals in a relationship. Participants were 173 individuals in a relationship who filled out the following measures: SICS, Family Environment Scale, Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale and Brief Symptom Inventory. We conducted a confirmatory factor analysis to test the SICS factorial structure and computed correlations between its scores and those of other relevant constructs to contribute to this scale’s construct validity. The confirmatory factor analysis revealed an acceptable fit for the three-factor structure (marker, costs, and benefits of silent interparental conflict). The total score of SICS demonstrated very good internal consistency (αs > .80) and it was negatively correlated with scores of family cohesion, expressiveness, and marital satisfaction; conversely, it was positively correlated with scores of family conflict and psychological symptoms. Results support the use the SICS in Portuguese contexts. Silent conflict is a construct readily recognized, and this self-report questionnaire proved to be a valid instrument to assess this form of conflict between members of a couple.

Reconhecendo a importância da inserção da temática ambiental no ensino e a relevância das Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) para a formação em Educação Ambiental (EA), este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar, a partir de revisão bibliográfica, em que medida a discussão de questões ambientais e a EA têm sido inseridas nos cursos de ensino superior no Brasil e quais os desafios que têm sido enfrentados. Através da revisão foi possível identificar que a inserção do tema ainda não se efetivou em diversos cursos superiores e que tanto a inserção do tema no currículo quanto a prática da EA nos contextos em que já está inserida enfrentam dificuldades, em especial para a prática da interdisciplinaridade e prática a partir de abordagem crítica.

This exploratory study investigates the impact of a military mission on Portuguese families, specifically on children. Although most research seeks the negative consequences of this lived experience, through the “Deployment Risk and Resilience Model” the present study intends to explore if this period can also be an opportunity for military’s children to grow and become more resilient. Aiming to express freely their lived and felt stories about the phenomenon under study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 22 children of the service members of the Portuguese Army, aged between 8 and 21 years old. The results of the thematic analysis indicated that the most critical moments of the mission were the notification period, the last days before the departure of the service member, and the deployment. The preparation of activities for the service members’ absence in the pre-deployment and the increase of tasks to be carried out, during the deployment, were the most referenced changes. In the post-deployment, children perceived a rapid readjustment of the family system. Despite the military's children's difficulties in readjusting during the mission, they reported that the feelings of closeness to the nuclear family, increased responsibility, and personal growth were positive results experienced. It would be interesting to extend similar studies within family systems, as in other branches of the armed forces. As practical implications, the findings of our pioneering study may significantly contribute to the construction of programs and/or actions that promote a possible growth in the personal resilience of the children of Portuguese service members, and not only the recovery of the state prior to the mission.

The long absence of a family member changes the entire family environment. The deployment of a service member has a strong impact on family relationships. This longitudinal study aims to analyze motivations, emotions, and changes experienced by soldiers and their spouses during a mission: anxiety, positive and negative emotions, social support, family and life satisfaction. Soldiers and spouses answered questionnaires during the three main phases of the mission (Wave [W] 1: predeployment, W2: deployment, W3: postdeployment). Soldiers also completed a questionnaire 6 months after they returned home (W4: follow-up). The sample (N = 313) comprised 255 male soldiers of the Portuguese Army (27–51 years old) and 58 female spouses (19–52 years old). A total of 123 participants had children at the time of the mission. The main reported reasons to go on a mission were personal fulfilment, career goals, and earning extra money. Higher levels of predeployment and postdeployment anxiety were observed among soldiers and their spouses. Service members exhibited more difficulties when deployed, whereas for their spouses, predeployment and deployment were more stressful periods. Soldiers who responded to the 6-month follow-up reported a lower capacity for adaptation and reintegration than they had at postdeployment. This study contributes to the construction of programs and/or actions that promote the achievement of “competences for a positive adaptation” and higher personal/family resilience, and it helps understand the reintegration of the soldier into the family environment to recover the family dynamics that existed before the mission.

Marital satisfaction is considered a core dimension to understand marriage quality, influencing individual and family well-being. The Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale (KMSS) is one of the most used instruments to assess this dimension. This study presents the psychometric properties of the KMSS Portuguese version through two studies. In Study 1, 145 couples (parents of school-aged children) completed the KMSS, and the Co-parenting Questionnaire and Inventory of Attachment in Childhood and Adolescence. The one-factor structure of the KMSS was supported (CFA), and an invariance analysis showed the same structure for males and females. Preliminary evidence supported concurrent and discriminant validity, and high reliability (α =.97) was observed. In Study 2, the factor structure was replicated in an extended sample (361 couples) and invariance tests showed a similar one-factor structure for two stages of the family life cycle (children 6–12 and 13–18 years). Results indicated the measure’s suitability for research in the Portuguese context; however, further study is needed for its clinical use.

The term parental alienation refers to the negative influence of one parent over a child’s perception of the other parent (targeted parent). The aim of this research was to gain further understanding of targeted parents’ experience of parental alienation from their own perspectives. For this qualitative study, a thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with eight participants aged between 33 and 51 years was conducted. The data from individual semi-structured interviews enabled the identification of four main themes: perception of personal impact, coping strategies, family relationships and support network. Parents identified a serious impairment of their physical and emotional well-being and mainly identified emotion-focused coping strategies to deal with this adverse ongoing situation. Furthermore, they reported changes in key relationships, with emphasis on difficulties in family and social contexts. The contribution of the findings to research and interventions with parents and families experiencing parental alienation are discussed.

Even though tourists increasingly value sustainable practices in tourism businesses and destinations, price is still one of the main determinant factors in their decisions. Therefore, for destination managers it is essential to understand tourists’ willingness to pay an additional price to visit a place where sustainable practices are adopted. In this context, and building on social psychology theories, the present study proposes and tests a causal model encompassing tourists’ Willingness To Pay (WTP) for sustainability in tourist destinations as well as their own sustainability attitudes, namely: Environmental Beliefs, Ecotour Attitudes, and Sustainable Consumption Behaviour. To this end, data were collected through a questionnaire survey of Portuguese tourists (n = 567). The hypothesised relationships between the latent variables were then tested using Structural Equations Modelling (SEM) procedures. The results show that Environmental Beliefs significantly affected both Ecotour Attitudes and Sustainable Consumption Behaviour, and that the latter two significantly affected WTP. However, no significant effect of Environmental Beliefs on WTP was found. These findings provide useful insights for destination managers aiming to more effectively cater to sustainability-oriented tourists. Future research should attempt to assess the role of other determinants of WTP.

The automotive industry represents one of the largest economic sectors in the world and most companies in this industry involve subcontracting in their strategy. However, subcontracting is one of the possible processes that can lead to inefficiencies for companies. Since lean arises as a response to the most varied problems of companies, the main goal of this work is to understand the importance of subcontracting in the automotive sector and to understand how lean and subcontracting are related. For this, an empirical study of papers and books related to these topics was performed, concluding that subcontracting is frequently used in the automotive sector, to obtain strategic advantages, and that it supports the foundations of the lean concept, as well as the lean can help manage subcontracting. The trade-off of the transfer of activities enables organizations to be flexible, lean and agile; they can then focus on their core activities, which generate more value, while the option to subcontract generates a significant reduction in costs by transferring non-core activities. In short, these two concepts are related to each other in the context of the automotive industry.

The main aim of the present study was to examine the psychological adaptation and beliefs of parents who identified themselves as experiencing a situation of parental alienation (targeted parents). Firstly, we compared psychological adaptation (depression, satisfaction with life) and belief in an unjust world in targeted parents and parents from the community. Secondly, we examined the associations between individual (depression, belief in an unjust world) and family (child behavior related to parental alienation, other parent’s alienating behavior and triangulation) factors and satisfaction with life in targeted parents. A cross-sectional study was conducted with two sub-samples (N = 106) who completed self-report questionnaires assessing depression symptoms, belief in an unjust world, and satisfaction with life. Targeted parents additionally reported on parental alienation and triangulation measures. Results showed that targeted parents presented higher scores of depression symptoms and of beliefs in an unjust world and lower scores in satisfaction with life, compared to parents in the community. Standard multiple regression analysis showed a significant contribution of depression, belief in an unjust world and child behavior related to parental alienation for the satisfaction with life of targeted parents. The findings provide an important contribution to characterize targeted parents’ psychological adaptation and beliefs, and to identify correlates of poorer satisfaction with life in the adverse context of parental alienation.

Considering the increase in the number of tourists and tourist flows in the city of Porto, especially in the parishes that make up the UNESCO World Heritage area and its surrounding protected areas, it is extremely important to analyse the perception that residents and professionals have about the dynamics that tourists bring to the city and the impacts of tourism in economic, socio-cultural and environmental terms. Thus, this study aims to assess the perception that residents of the city of Porto have on the impacts of tourist activity in the Historic Centre of Porto (CHP) and whether there is a relationship between the place of residence, the place of professional activity or study and the perception of the impacts of tourism in the Economic, Socio-cultural and Environmental aspects. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was applied to a sample of 322 professionals and residents in the city of Porto. The results suggest that the respondents consider that tourism in Porto is growing harmoniously with the city and tourism activity has a direct influence on the overall improvement of the Centre of Porto. The aspects that is most relevant to the positive perception of tourism in the city is the socio-cultural component that shows that tourism development process in Porto is in an expansion phase.

As recent studies show, tourists increasingly favour hotels and other tourism businesses that adopt more sustainable practices. This trend has arguably been intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, due to the restrictions regarding crowded places and closed spaces, a lot of tourists have (re)discovered nature. In this context, the present study aims to analyse tourists’ evaluation of sustainability criteria and willingness to pay for items when choosing a destination during the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, previously validated scales for sustainability criteria and willingness to pay (for a sustainable destination) were tested, through a confirmatory approach, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, data was collected through a survey questionnaire (n=567) with Portuguese tourists and subjected to a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The findings show that the factors hold their dimensionality, convergent validity, and reliability in the context of Portuguese tourists travelling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, a newly proposed item, related to the importance given to the inclusion of local producers in the tourism industry’s supply chain, was validated. The findings also show that, especially when it comes to willingness to pay, factors with a direct effect on tourists’ experience are significantly more valued. Additionally, the results point to a slightly different outlook on sustainability criteria by Portuguese tourists, which is likely related to the context of the pandemic. Finally, the findings provide useful insights for destination managers aiming to attract tourists with a more sustainable behaviour.

Follicular lymphoma Limfoma fol·licular Linfoma folicular In the pivotal ZUMA-5 trial, axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel; an autologous anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy) demonstrated high rates of durable response in relapsed/refractory (r/r) follicular lymphoma (FL) patients. Here, outcomes from ZUMA-5 are compared with the international SCHOLAR-5 cohort, which applied key ZUMA-5 trial eligibility criteria simulating randomized controlled trial conditions. SCHOLAR-5 data were extracted from institutions in 5 countries, and from 1 historical clinical trial, for r/r FL patients who initiated a third or higher line of therapy after July 2014. Patient characteristics were balanced through propensity scoring on prespecified prognostic factors using standardized mortality ratio (SMR) weighting. Time-to-event outcomes were evaluated using weighted Kaplan-Meier analysis. Overall response rate (ORR) and complete response (CR) rate were compared using weighted odds ratios. The 143 ScHOLAR-5 patients reduced to an effective sample of 85 patients after SMR weighting vs 86 patients in ZUMA-5. Median follow-up time was 25.4 and 23.3 months for SCHOLAR-5 and ZUMA-5. Median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in SCHOLAR-5 were 59.8 months and 12.7 months and not reached in ZUMA-5. Hazard ratios for OS and PFS were 0.42 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.21-0.83) and 0.30 (95% CI, 0.18-0.49). The ORR and CR rate were 49.9% and 29.9% in SCHOLAR-5 and 94.2% and 79.1% in ZUMA-5, for odds ratios of 16.2 (95% CI, 5.6-46.9) and 8.9 (95% CI, 4.3-18.3). Compared with available therapies, axi-cel demonstrated an improvement in meaningful clinical endpoints, suggesting axi-cel addresses an important unmet need for r/r FL patients. The lockdown, in the COVID-19 pandemic, is considered an external crisis that evokes innumerous changes in individuals lives. One of the changes is the work and family dynamics. Based on boundary theory we examine the mediated role of work and family balance and boundary segmentation behavior in the relationship between boundary violations and teleworkers’ stress and well-being. However, because women and men live their work and family differently, gender may condition the way teleworkers lead with boundary violations and boundary segmentation. Hypotheses were tested through moderated mediation modeling using data collected of 456 teleworkers during lockdown. In line with our expectations, teleworkers who have suffered most boundary violations were those with least boundary segmentation behaviors and with least work-family balance which, in turn was related to higher burnout and lower flourishing. Furthermore, gender was found to moderate the relationship between boundary violations from work-to-family and segmentation behavior in the same direction and this relationship was stronger for females than for males. We discuss implications for future research and for managing teleworkers, creating sustainability, both during a crise and stable days.

Partner support in the performance of the parenting role is critical, as it increases father involvement in the care of the child. However, the measures to assess this type of support are scarce. This study presents the preliminary validation of the Portuguese version of the Partner Support for Father Involvement (PSFI) scale (confirmatory factor analysis, measurement invariance models, reliability, and concurrent and discriminant validity). The participants were 486 independent (unrelated) parents, 243 fathers (Mage = 42.13, SD = 5.57) and 243 mothers (Mage = 39.67, SD = 4.78), who completed the PSFI (translated version), the EMBU and the Co-parenting Questionnaire. This article describes the 14 measures implemented at a company in the metalwork sector with a view to improving its order fulfilment process. Based on Lean thinking, each of the actions, as well as their potential impact on the process, is explained. Despite the constraints encountered during implementation, and the fact that manufacturing processes are invariably different, the overall results achieved were satisfactory. As a result of the interventions, internal functions were revised and processes simplified. There was also a reduction of 25% in budgeting time, as well as an improvement in communication systems and production management. One additionally was achieved the reorganization of storage spaces, a reduction in logistic operation times of about 20% and a decrease in the time spent accessing tools in near 61%. Far more important than the first results obtained is the company’s current commitment to the pursuance of these measures, allowing the different actions to generate synergies and produce improvements, which will undoubtedly set the company on the course of Lean culture.

Seismic attributes often provide support for identification of several important parameters that could be applied in geomodelling for constraining reservoir properties such as porosity, permeability and fluid saturation. Additional insight can be gained as a way of detecting depositional features and geometries, and improve qualitative (e.g., data quality, seismic facies mapping) and quantitative analyses (e.g., net sand, porosity prediction). The case study is a deep gas bearing Jurassic fluvial channel sandstone reservoir in an onshore field in Kazakhstan, Central Asia. The data set is scarce, with only a few wells penetrating the reservoir. The available 3D seismic data is weak to a reasonable quality, and an attempt was carried out to use a series of attributes for channel identification and imaging. After testing several attributes, only two of them have shown good results: Generalized Spectral Decomposition (GSD) and Variance. Geobody extraction was also tried, but the seismic quality was not sufficient enough to further pursue such methodology. To overcome this issue, a joint approach for channels detection and extraction was tested by looking at the variance attribute in time slices and applying a workflow for an alternative way. With this technique (Alternative way for extracting geobodies), the facies property was generated in zones where the information was limited. The implementation of this approach, together with core facies interpretation has allowed a way of constraining other properties (e.g. porosity) and undoubtedly increased the robustness of the static model. Such model will support a more accurate estimation of HIIP volumes, future decisions on the most proper development plan and also investment decisions. The alternative way for extracting geobodies was tested in two channels examples and for different zones in Jurassic reservoir with success. The described workflow helped in channel extraction and it can be used in facies modelling when the reservoir data set is scarce. A more robust facies model can be generated by combining the seismic attribute results with well data.

portuguesO presente estudo, de natureza descritivo-exploratoria, pretendeu contribuir para a compreensao da experiencia psicologica da doenca cronica complexa na fratria em idade escolar. A amostra foi constituida por sete familias de criancas em cuidados paliativos, tendo seis maes e uma avo preenchido um questionario socio demografico. Foram entrevistados nove irmaos saudaveis, com idades entre os 6 e os 9 anos, atraves de uma historia infantil ilustrada e da elaboracao de uma narrativa baseada no seu desenho sobre a fratria. Os resultados da analise qualitativa evidenciam oito categorias principais: compreensao da doenca, representacao do irmao doente, impacto emocional, ocupacao de tempos livres e responsabilidades, perspetivas sobre o futuro, relacao fraterna, dinâmicas familiares e fratria imaginaria. A reduzida dimensao da amostra e a diversidade de doencas constituem limitacoes deste estudo. Retiram-se implicacoes para a intervencao psicologica na fratria, sugerindo-se investigacoes futuras que explorem a rivalidade fraterna e outras faixas etarias. portuguesThe present study, of descriptive-exploratory nature, aimed to contribute to the understanding of the psychological experience of complex chronic disease in school-age siblings. The sample consisted of seven families of children in palliative care, composed by six mothers and one grandmother which filled out a socio-demographic questionnaire. This was followed by the participation of nine healthy siblings, aged between 6 and 9 years, through an illustrated children's story, and the elaboration of a narrative based on their drawing about siblings. The results from qualitative analysis evidenced eight main categories: understanding of the disease, sick sibling representation, emotional impact, leisure time occupation and responsibilities, future perspectives, fraternal relationship, family dynamics and imaginary siblings. The reduced sample dimension and the diversity of diseases are considered some of the study’s limitations. For the psychological intervention, implications are drawn suggesting further research exploring the siblings’ rivalry and other age groups.

This article presents the results of a deepened study of the best practices and outcomes of 15 programs (across 9 countries) that work with socioeconomically disadvantagedd communities. Using thematic analysis, we identified best practices that participants, community leaders, and professionals recognized as key. Data collection involved in loco observation and semistructured interviews with participants and professionals, and focus groups with professionals. Associated with best practices, programs adopted two central perspectives on approaching participants: approaching participants as users and approaching participants as contributors. Such approaches were crossed with best practices and outcomes identified througout the analysis. For programs that approached participants as users, the best practices were valuing, facilitating the access to resources, showing availability, and promoting competencies and openness, and the main outcome was participants' improved self-confidence. For programs that approached participants as contributors, the best practices were contributing, encouraging participation, valuing participants, becoming masters, and reciprocity, and the main outcome was participants having an impact.

A finalidade desta pesquisa versa em compreender como são construídas as ações didáticas que envolvem o curso de Educação Física na modalidade a distância, oferecido pela Universidade Federal do Amazonas, no Campus do município de Parintins-AM. A metodologia adotada foi baseada no paradigma qualitativo, mediante a análise e discussão dos dados foram amparados pela técnica da análise de conteúdo. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram dezesseis estudantes que cursam o último período do curso e um tutor presencial. Apesar de ter na unidade universitária professores presenciais e tutores onlines, optamos, pois, em trabalhar apenas com as categorias estudantes e tutor presencial. Os dados apontaram para fragilidades que atentam diretamente à qualidade do curso pesquisado. Dentre as fragilidades mais recorrentes estão a falta de acompanhamento sistemático no ambiente online e nos estágios supervisionados no campo de atuação desses estudantes e a falta de diálogo entre professores e estudantes nas interfaces. ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to understand, in a well-founded way, the didactic actions that involve the Physical Education course in the distance modality, offered by the Federal University of Amazonas, in the Campus of the municipality of Parintins-AM. The methodology adopted was based on the qualitative paradigm, through the analysis and discussion of data were supported by the technique of content analysis. The subjects of the research were sixteen students who attended the last period of the course and one tutor in person. Although we have faculty and online tutors at the university unit, we have chosen to work only with the categories of students and tutor in person. The data pointed to weaknesses that directly affect the quality of the course studied. Among the most recurrent weaknesses are the lack of systematic monitoring in the online environment and supervised internships in the field of these students' activities and the lack of dialogue between teachers and students in the interfaces.
