The Iberoatlantic region (covering mainly Spain, Portugal and west coast of Africa) is a focus of a large variety of geodynamic processes. The meeting of three tectonic plates in the region (triple junction in Azores Islands) causes vulnerabilities and common scientific interest to all the countries in the area. Geodesy is the tool necessary for the monitoring of these effects.The RAEGE project, developed between the National Geographic Institute of Spain and the Azores Regional Government, is an example of the need of international geodetic collaboration in the area. RAEGE project aims at constructing, installing, and operating four Geodetic Core Sites, two in Spain (in Yebes and Gran Canaria) and two in Azores (in Flores and Santa Maria islands) for geodetic and geodynamic purposes. This project, together with research collaborations with the University of Alicante, opened a way for international cooperation between Spain and Portugal and showed the enriching and useful that these cooperation are. Here arise the idea of creating a new GGOS affiliate in the region, initially between Spain and Portugal. This group will be a forum for dialogue between organization and groups involved in geodesy, and it will impulse researchs in geodesy and it will settle a way of bringing geodesy closer to the society.The first steps for the proposal to the national geodetic authorities, advances and goals of the group will be presented in this contribution., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

The criteria for the selection of COVID-19 patients that could benefit most from ECMO organ support are yet to be defined. In this study, we evaluated the predictive performance of ECMO mortality predictive models in patients with COVID-19. We also performed a cost-benefit analysis depending on the mortality predicted probability. We conducted a retrospective cohort study in COVID-19 patients who received ECMO at two tertiary care hospitals between March 2020 to July 2021. We evaluated the discrimination (C-statistic), calibration (Cox calibration), and accuracy of the prediction of death due to severe ARDS in V-V ECMO score (PRESERVE), the Respiratory Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Survival Score (RESP) score, and the PREdiction of Survival on ECMO Therapy-Score (PRESET) score. In addition, we compared the RESP score with Plateau pressure instead of Peak pressure. We included a total of 36 patients, 29 (80%) of them male and with a median (IQR) APACHE of 10 (8-15). The PRESET score had the highest discrimination (AUROCs 0.81 [95%CI 0.67 - 0.94]) and calibration (calibration-in-the-large 0.5 [95%CI -1.4 - 0.3]; calibration slope 2.2 [95%CI 0.7 / 3.7]). The RESP score with Plateau pressure had higher discrimination than the conventional RESP score. The cost per QALY in the USA, adjusted to life expectancy, was higher than USD 100,000 in patients older than 45 years with a PRESET10. The PRESET score had the highest predictive performance and could help in the selection of patients that benefit most from this resource-demanding and highly invasive organ support.

Colombia fortalecela práctica de La telesalud y telemedicina. Introdución: Esta investigación documental busca analizar y documentar los avances y brechas de la Telesalud-Telemedicina, desde el punto de vista de la implementación de la normatividad vigente y los documentos de estudios de avance de la telemedicina en Colombia.Metodo: documentar el estado actual de la implementación de la Telesalud- Telemedicina en Colombia y determinar las Brechas y las barreras que impiden la implementación y mantenimiento de las iniciativas de Telesalud- Telemedicina, basado en el marco establecido por la OPS/OMS. Resultados y recomendaciones: El panorama de atención en salud y telemedicina en Colombia no es muy diferente al de la mayoría de países latino americanos y incluye problemas de cobertura, accesibilidad y calidad, para lo cual no se perciben aún soluciones eficientes. Para lograr êxito é preciso dentre muchas aciones, formular estrategias de formación, capacitación y entrenamiento en telesalud/ telemedicina y formular lineamientos para la incorporación de la telemedicina dentro de la red de prestación de servicios. Background and Aims Clinical practice guidelines recommend an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) as the preferred vascular access for hemodialysis. Patency of the arteriovenous access is important for effective hemodialysis. However, maintaining the patency of the AVF remains a challenge. We determined those independent prognostic factors for the patency of the AVF at the time of its creation. Method Cross-sectional study; We include all AVFs performed at the HGUCR in the last 2 decades. Demographic variables (age, sex), etiology of CKD and associated comorbidity were collected. We determine the factors involved in the primary patency of AVFs. Statistical analysis with SPSS 25.0. Categorical variables are expressed as percentages and are compared using the Chi2 test. Quantitative variables are expressed as mean ± standard deviation and the Mann Whitney Student-T/U was used to compare them. Statistical significance for a value of p Results 622 AVFs performed in 482 patients were reviewed. 86.8% were autologous. The mean age was 65.4±14 years; 66.6% were male. The most frequent etiologies of CKD were diabetic nephropathy (30.2%), unknown (18%), and glomerulonephritis (16.6%). 91.2% had arterial hypertension (HBP) and diabetes mellitus (DM) 47.9%. 48.7% received antiplatelet therapy and 15.6% anticoagulation prior to the creation of the AVF. 27% presented primary failure. The univariate analysis showed statistical significance for the qualitative variables HTA (p=0.002), treatment with statins (p Conclusion In our study, HTA and antiplatelet therapy prior to the creation of the VA behave as protective factors for primary failure, with high phosphorus levels being an independent factor for primary failure of AVFs.

This study investigated the influence of land use on water quality parameters in the subtropical basin of Jundiaí-Mirim river. Water samples were collected to measure nutrients concentration and direct measurements by multiparameter probe were performed, as well as landscape analysis, using satellite images and visits in the sampling sites, besides analysis of population density data. Data were standardized and the correlation between the variables was measured using Spearman approach. Land use in the surrounding area of the sampling points had strong and significant correlations (p < 0.05) with some of the water quality parameters evaluated. These correlations had different causes, explained by the land use in a 50 m radius, or 500 m radius, or even beyond these environments studied. Landscape analysis has proved to be an important tool for understanding the interaction between water quality and land use.

La investigación se realizó en el Centro Experimental de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, sede Palmira (CEUNP); tuvo como objetivo determinar la extracción y distribución de nitrógeno (N), fósforo (P) y potasio (K) en hojas y frutos, para dos tipos de ají: Capsicum frutescens L. (Tabasco) y Capsicum chinense J.(Habanero), y su influencia en el rendimiento. El diseño experimental fue bloques completos al azar, con cuatro tratamientos y cuatro repeticiones; los tratamientos fueron: T1= Testigo, T2= programa de fertilización que maneja CEUNP (N:150, P2O5:100 y K2O:300), T3= CEUNP + 50% y el T4= CEUNP + 100%. El Análisis de varianza mostró diferencias altamente significativas (pK>P y fruto: K>N>P, sin embargo, es evidente la diferencia que existe en concentración y extracción de nutrientes, como también, en el rendimiento entre tipos de ají, lo cual sugiere un manejo diferencial por genotipo para un eficiente uso nutricional de este cultivo.

Los asuntos ambientales no tienen fronteras; implican la comprensión e interpretación de las normas ambientales en los diferentes países y culturas existentes. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar las convergencias y divergencias interpretativas de las normas penales ambientales de Brasil y Colombia, por medio de un estudio comparativo entre la Ley de Delitos Ambientales de Brasil y el Código Penal Colombiano. Los artículos científicos sobre derecho penal ambiental de los dos países fueron consultados en sitios de internet especializados; en las páginas oficiales gubernamentales se consultó la legislación, se usó como criterio transversal la actualización y vigencia de las mismas. Dentro de los resultados significativos se encontraron temas como la culpa, la autoría y el concurso de personas en los delitos, la responsabilidad administrativa, el daño a la propiedad ajena como agravante, la pericia ambiental, la responsabilidad de la persona jurídica, la profundidad al describir algunas características ambientales, además de temas comunes entre las dos normas. Se concluyó que la norma brasilera es más específica al abordar las cuestiones ambientales, proporcionando así una cobertura más eficiente en la penalización de delitos ambientales con relación al Código Penal Colombiano.

Conclui que a norma brasileira é mais específica quando se trata de questões ambientais, proporcionando uma cobertura mais eficiente na criminalização de danos ambientais em relação ao Código Penal colombiano.
