Abstract

Anesthesiologists are critical members of the multidisciplinary team managing patients with suspected placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). Preoperatively, anesthesiologists provide predelivery consultation for patients with suspected PAS where anesthetic modality and invasive monitor placement is discussed. Additionally, anesthesiologists carefully assess patient and surgical risk factors to choose an anesthetic plan and to prepare for massive intraoperative hemorrhage. Postoperatively, the obstetric anesthesiologist hold unique skills to assist with postoperative pain management for cesarean hysterectomy. We review the unique aspects of peripartum care for patients with PAS who undergo cesarean hysterectomy and explain why these responsibilities are critical for achieving successful outcomes for patients with PAS. Key Points Anesthesiologists are critical members of the multidisciplinary team planning for patients with suspected placenta accreta spectrum. Intraoperative preparation for massive hemorrhage is a key component of anesthetic care for patients with PAS. Abstract

Research reveals that hammerhead ribozyme cleaves RNA between nucleotides G8 and A9 and the cleavage is mediated by metal ions. Data indicate that zinc is a preferred metal ion although nickel, cobalt, manganese, cadmium, and lead can also catalyze the cleavage. Alkaline-earth metals barely cleaved the ribozyme.

23. Pseudomembranous Enterocolitis: A Clinico pathologic Study of Fourteen Cases with a Common Etiologic Factor

Abstract

The pathologic entity known as pseudomembranous enterocolitis has received much attention in the literature of recent years; yet a brief scanning of bibliographies on the subject will make the reader aware not only that the pathogenesis of this lesion remains an enigma but that there is a persistent trend toward identification of pseudomembranous enterocolitis with staphylococcal enteric infections secondary to antimicrobial therapy. It is evident from this study of 14 cases, first, that pseudomembranous enterocolitis is a pathologic entity not necessarily identifiable with or a sequel of staphylococcal enterocolitis, and, second, that an impairment of the blood supply of a part of the gastrointestinal tract caused by local or systemic vascular abnormalities may be a common denominator in the production of fatal pseudomembranous inflammation of the bowel.
