Summary Purpose Most medications for antihistamine-refractory chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) have not been compared head-to-head. This systematic review and network meta-analysis evaluates their relative efficacy and safety. Methods Electronic databases were searched until 05 May 2022 for randomized controlled trials investigating systemic medications for antihistamine-refractory CSU. The change in the urticaria activity score over seven days (UAS7) and occurrence of adverse events were compared between treatments using random-effects network meta-analysis models. Results In all, 32 studies with 3641 patients receiving 31 different systemic medical interventions were included. Among currently available drugs, omalizumab 300 mg injected every 4 weeks and cyclosporine 3–5 mg/kg daily per os were most effective in reducing the UAS7 with a reduction of −10.45 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −12.35, −8.55) and of −10.40 (95% CI: −19.4, −1.4) compared to placebo. Similar efficacies were shown by the nonapproved agents ligelizumab 72 mg injected every 4 weeks (−11.67, 95% CI: −16.80, −7.15) and fenebrutinib 400 mg daily per os (−9.50, 95% CI: −17.56, −1.44). The odds ratio for the occurrence of an adverse event with placebo as comparator was 1.09 for omalizumab (95% CI: 0.83, 1.42), 2.16 for cyclosporine (95% CI: 0.77, 6.07: GRADE; moderate certainty), 0.89 for ligelizumab (95% CI: 0.47, 1.69), and 2.14 for fenebrutinib (95% CI: 0.62, 7.38) in the mentioned dosages. Conclusion Omalizumab 300 mg injected every 4 weeks and cyclosporine 3–5 mg/kg daily per os are the most effective currently available drugs for antihistamine-refractory CSU. Cyclosporine shows a relatively less favorable safety profile.

Background: Demodex mites are related to some inflammatory diseases such as rosacea and blepharitis and could be harmful in patients with immunodeficiency or immunosuppression, especially notable in patients using biologic like dupilumab. In order to have an objective observation of different anti-Demodex strategies, we conducted this study, based on interventional clinical evidence with quantified Demodex mite data. Methods: We used the PubMed, Embase, ClinicalTrials.gov, Medline, and International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) as databases. To assess the risk of bias, the RoB2 and ROBINS-I tools were used. The certainty of evidence was assessed following the GRADE guideline. Furthermore, the effect sizes (ESs) of different strategies were compared in different time periods (0–1, 1–2, 2–3, >3 months), as well as Demodex decrease rates. Results: 1,618 studies were identified in the databases, with 21 of which included in the final quantitative synthesis. Interventions in these studies included ivermectin, tea tree oil (TTO), permethrin, crotamiton, metronidazole, light therapies, combined therapies, and other therapies. During 0–1 month, the ES varied from 0.07 (cleanser) to 1.95 (systemic ivermectin-metronidazole). During 1–2 months, the ES varied from 0.88 (topical permethrin) to 4.40 (topical ivermectin). During 2–3 months, the ES varied from 0.79 (topical permethrin) to 8.37 (topical ivermectin). During the time of 3 months, the ES varied from 0.59 (topical permethrin) to 2.25 (intense pulsed light [IPL]). In terms of Demodex decrease rates, topical ivermectin, TTO, permethrin, IPL, and baby shampoo had achieved a nearly 100% decrease. The reported adverse events were mostly mild, without severe adverse events reported in any of the studies. Conclusions: We found ivermectin (topical and systemic), ivermectin-metronidazole (topical), and TTO (topical) are promising anti-Demodex interventions. In addition to traditional pharmacotherapy, light therapies, especially IPL and skin cleansing, could also be considered as effective methods to control Demodex mite infestation.

Die vorliegende aktualisierte und auf S2k-Niveau angehobene Leitlinie befasst sich mit der Diagnostik und der Therapie der Rosazea, bei welcher es sich um eine häufige, chronisch-entzündliche Hauterkrankung handelt, die meist das Gesicht betrifft. Der Verlauf der Rosazea ist initial durch rezidivierende Erytheme, Teleangiektasien sowie Flushing gekennzeichnet. Später überwiegt die entzündliche Komponente, wobei es zu persistierenden Erythemen mit follikulären Papeln, Papulopusteln und Pusteln kommt. Die Bildung von Phymen, die meist an den Akren auftreten, stellt dabei die schwerste Ausprägung der Erkrankung dar. Zur Behandlung empfiehlt die interdisziplinäre Leitlinienkommission, die aus Vertretern der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft (DDG), des Berufsverbandes der Deutschen Dermatologen (BVDD), der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft (DOG), der Gesellschaft für Dermopharmazie (GD), der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für Dermatologie und Venerologie (SGDV) und der Deutschen Rosazea Hilfe e. V. besteht, neben der Meidung von Triggerfaktoren, die topische Anwendung der Wirkstoffe Metronidazol, Azelainsäure oder Ivermectin. Zur symptomatischen Behandlung persistierender zentrofazialer Erytheme können zudem die Vasokonstriktoren Brimonidin oder Oxymetazolin topisch angewandt werden. Bei therapieresistenten sowie bei schweren Formen der Rosacea papulopustulosa wird eine systemische Therapie empfohlen. Hierfür ist niedrigdosiertes Doxycyclin das Präparat der 1. Wahl. Alternativ kann niedrigdosiertes Isotretinoin empfohlen werden. Für die okulären Rosazea kann neben einer Lidrandhygiene die topische Behandlung mit Ciclosporin-haltigen Augentropfen, Azithromycin, Ivermectin oder Metronidazol empfohlen werden.

Background: Allergic diseases represent a major global health issue with more than one-third of the global population affected by at least one allergic condition. Allergic conditions can not only cause life-threatening anaphylactic reactions but also impact daily life with a significant influence on mental health and the quality of life (QoL). Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the health-related QoL and depression severity among patients presenting in a tertiary care allergy center. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 596 patients presenting with allergic symptoms or previously diagnosed allergies between October 2018 and April 2019. Patients were screened for depression and the QoL impairment by using three validated scales: the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Dermatologic Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the three-level version of the EuroQol 5-Dimensional (EQ-5D-3L) scale. Results: One-third (34.8%) of the study population was male and two-thirds (65.2%) were female. About 73.7% (n = 427/579) of the patients suffered from at least one previously diagnosed allergic disease, most frequently to pollen (37.0%, n = 214/579) and food (27.3%, n = 158/579), and 20.0 % (n = 116/579) suffered from urticaria. About 19.3% of the total population suffered from depression. Urticaria, as well as insect venom, food/food additives, and drug allergies significantly affected the QoL and depression severity (p < 0.001), reflected by higher DLQI and BDI scores, and lower scores in the EQ5D-3L index. Conclusion: Our results provide evidence for a possible correlation of allergies (e.g. against insect venom, food/food additives, and drugs) and/or urticaria with a reduced QoL and a higher depression rate. Patients particularly indicated restrictions for the dimensions, pain/discomfort as well as anxiety/depression. It might be beneficial to implement a standardized questionnaire as a regular screening method for evaluating the mental health status of patients with allergies and/or urticaria.

The corona pandemic affects many aspects of life - with challenges in medical treatment undoubtedly of paramount importance. However, continuing medical education needs to be consistently provided. During a semester with lockdown-phases and limited student-to-patient-contact availability, we supplied silicone models of primary skin lesions to every student and asked them to evaluate this teaching tool.In two anonymous online surveys, we asked students enrolled in dermatology (n = 222) at the Medical Facility of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in the winter semester 2020/2021 - subsequent to online teaching - about their understanding and self-assessment of primary skin lesions before and after receiving silicone models for practice. The models were produced by layering different types of silicone into negative 3D printed molds made from polylactide to attain different degrees of hardness and colors.Data from 211 (95.0 %) and 213 (95.9 %) of the 222 students were analyzed before and after receiving the silicone models, respectively. In all questions the students stated a highly significant improvement in their skills (P 0.001). The majority of students evaluated the silicone models positively and reported a better understanding and learning of primary skin lesions.This study demonstrates the benefit of haptic experience in dermatology teaching not only in the time of COVID-19, but also thereafter.

Ratten können Streptobacillus moniliformis übertragen, das Rattenbissfieber (RBF), eine seltene und potenziell letale Zoonose, verursachen kann. Anspruchsvolle Kulturbedingungen und unspezifische Symptome, einschließlich Fieber, Arthralgie und polymorphe Hautläsionen, erschweren die Diagnose. Rattenbissfieber wird durch Exposition gegenüber kontaminierten Körperflüssigkeiten infizierter Nagetiere verursacht; Berichte über Infektionen durch Streptobacillus moniliformis sind bisher jedoch selten. Wir berichten über einen Fall von RBF durch Streptobacillus moniliformis bei einer Patientin, die Umgang mit Ratten hatte. Eine Patientin stellte sich mit schmerzhaften hämorrhagischen Pusteln und lividen Läsionen an Händen und Füßen vor. Sie entwickelte Fieber und eine migratorische Polyarthralgie. In Blutkulturen wuchs Streptobacillus moniliformis. Da die Patientin Ratten besaß und Kontakt mit kontaminiertem Rattenkot und -urin hatte, war dies die wahrscheinlichste Ursache der Infektion. Schwierigkeiten bei der klinischen und mikrobiologischen Diagnose unterstreichen die Notwendigkeit einer gründlichen und vollständigen Erfassung der Anamnese und eines besseren Verständnisses für diese seltene Infektionskrankheit.

Hyperhidrosis can significantly curtail patient quality of life, from debilitating physical symptoms to social stigmatization and reduced life opportunities. Current treatments often prove unsatisfactory, especially in sufferers of generalized hyperhidrosis. In this open trial, we present the case of a refractory generalized hyperhidrosis treated with cannabinoids. We found a remarkable reduction in the volume of sweat and an improvement to the patient's quality of life using this novel low-cost and low-impact approach.

Rats can transmit Streptobacillus moniliformis, which may cause rat-bite fever (RBF), a rare and potentially lethal zoonosis. Fastidious in vitro growth and unspecific symptoms, including fever, arthralgia, and polymorphous skin lesions, complicate the diagnosis. Rat-bite fever follows exposure to contaminated bodily fluids of infected rodents; however, reports on Streptobacillus moniliformis-related infections are few so far. A female patient presented with painful hemorrhagic pustules and purpuric lesions on hands and feet. She developed fever and migratory polyarthralgia. Blood culture yielded growth with Streptobacillus moniliformis. The patient owned rats and handled contaminated rat feces and urine, making this the most likely etiology of infection. We report a case of RBF due to Streptobacillus moniliformis in a rat handling-patient. Difficulties in clinical and microbiological diagnosis highlight the need for a thorough and complete history-taking and a greater understanding of this rare infectious disease.

Background Hand hygiene measures in the general population and in health care workers have increased considerably since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Objectives To investigate the prevalence and symptoms of hand eczema, as well as hygiene measures and concepts of care, in German health care workers. Materials & methods This was an observational questionnaire study to investigate hygiene and skin care habits, as well as the prevalence and symptoms of hand eczema in 66 nurses and doctors of our dermatology department before and during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Results Hand washing and hand disinfection procedures increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Self-diagnosed hand eczema was reported by 33% of the participants, with a median duration of 14 days. The majority of staff currently affected by hand eczema were free of eczema a month previously (82%) and would treat their skin condition with emollients (77%). Erythema, scaling, burning and fissures were reported by 66.1% of the participants and were classified as predominant signs of toxic-irritant hand dermatitis rather than contact allergy. Conclusion Overall, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has led to a significant increase in the incidence of signs of irritant hand eczema despite intensified emollient use as a preventive measure. Awareness of the prevalence of hand eczema in health care workers in Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic should be raised, and preventive measures should be intensified.

Background The treatment of facial erythema and subjective symptoms of rosacea patients remains challenging in clinical practice. Cosmeceuticals, care components containing active ingredients such as phytochemicals, play a growing role in treatment plans. However, well-designed studies on their efficacy and limitations are widely missing. Objective A foam and a cream for rosacea patients were assessed based on objective and subjective methodology. The tolerability of skin and eyes was evaluated. Methods A randomized, double-blinded, split-face, and vehicle-controlled trial was conducted. At baseline and after four weeks of product use, dermatological and ophthalmological investigations were performed, employing image analysis of facial erythema, clinical assessments, and questionnaires. Results The patient cohort comprised 33 females with persistent facial erythema due to rosacea. No significant differences were found between the vehicle and the verum. According to the analysis of facial erythema, a "less pronounced" or "much less pronounced" appearance was seen in two thirds of patients comparing V1 to V0. Especially, the dryness of the skin improved by the use of the vehicle and the verum. Adverse subjective skin sensations decreased by 61.3% for the verum side and by 58.6% for the vehicle side. Subjective and objective analysis of ocular manifestation differed, with subjective manifestations reported more frequently, thus highlighting underdiagnosis of ocular rosacea. Conclusions As no clear differences between the verum and the vehicle were found, an optimal skin care regime itself seems to have a superior effect in the relief of facial erythema and foremost of subjective symptoms, rather than certain active ingredients.

BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing face masks is mandatory not only for health care workers (HCWs) but also for the general population in many countries around the globe. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to investigate the onset of adverse facial skin reactions due to compulsory face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic in HCWs and non-HCWs, and draw awareness of this new dermatological condition and its preventive measures. MATERIALS & METHODS: A questionnaire was distributed to 550 patients and HCWs from the Department of Dermatology and Allergy of the University Hospital Munich (LMU), Germany. Participants were surveyed regarding mask type, duration of usage and adverse facial skin reactions. Information on symptoms and the use of skin care products and topical drugs were retrieved. RESULTS: The duration of wearing masks showed a significant impact on the prevalence of symptoms (p < 0.001). Type IV hypersensitivity was significantly more likely in participants with symptoms compared to those without symptoms (p = 0.001), whereas no increase in symptoms was observed in participants with atopic diathesis. HCWs used facial skin care products significantly more often than non-HCWs (p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: Preventive and therapeutic measures should be established in order to avoid "face mask dermatitis", especially for people with underlying risk factors.

Remote consultations are likely to grow in importance in the following years, especially if the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic continues. Patients’ opinions on teledermatology have already been analyzed, but a current analysis during the COVID‐19 pandemic is lacking. The purpose of this survey was to investigate the satisfaction of patients who had received dermatological advice via telephone during the COVID‐19 pandemic and to analyze their general opinion about eHealth as well as possible limitations for a broad implementation. Ninety‐one patients managed in the dermatology department using telephone consultation during the COVID‐19 pandemic were interviewed. An anonymous questionnaire, including the established quality of life questionnaire (Dermatology Life Quality Index [DLQI]), was used. It was found that men were more satisfied with telephone consultations than women (p = 0.029), educational level and age did not correlate with satisfaction (p = 0.186 and 388, respectively), and the longer the waiting time for a telephone consultation, the lower the satisfaction (p = 0.001). Grouped analysis of all participants showed that the majority (54.0% n = 38/71) were “very happy” with the telephone consultation. Higher disease burden (DLQI) was associated with lower satisfaction (p = 0.042). The main stated reasons for using telemedicine were shorter waiting times (51.6% n = 47/91) and no travel requirement (57.1% n = 47/91). Almost one‐quarter (23.1% n = 21/89) of patients would use teledermatology in the future, 17.6% (n = 16/89) would not, and 57.1% (n = 51/89) would only use it in addition to a traditional consultation with personal contact. In conclusion, most patients in the study group still preferred traditional face‐to‐face medical consultations to telephone consultations, but also desired an add‐on telemedical tool. Dermatological care using more modern telemedicine technologies than telephone conferencing is needed to better address patients’ desires, especially in times of the COVID‐19 pandemic.

Background Since the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, authorities have preached the importance of personal hygiene, including hand washing and disinfection. Objective To evaluate changes in the frequency of hand washing and hand care, the onset of hand eczema (HE) and risk factors associated with HE since the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 in Munich in January 2020. Materials & Methods All dermatologic outpatients at the university hospital between April 6 and April 19 were asked to complete a structured questionnaire. Results Data of 512 patients with a median age of 49 years (243 females, 267 males) were analysed. The frequency of hand washing and hand disinfection increased after the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 (p < 0.001, respectively). While symptoms associated with HE were reported by 29.9% (149/499) of patients, the actual diagnosis of HE was reported less frequently by 11.2% (53/473) with a median duration of 120 days. Frequent hand disinfection (p = 0.039), atopic dermatitis (p = 0.006) and young age (p = 0.0499) were identified as risk factors for symptoms of HE. Hand care was performed more frequently during the pandemic than before (p < 0.001). A high frequency of hand care during the pandemic was not significantly associated with symptoms of HE (p = 0.172), but was associated with self-recognition of HE symptoms (p = 0.002). Conclusion After the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, the frequency of hand hygiene measures increased. A considerably high prevalence of HE symptoms was associated with frequent hand disinfection, atopic dermatitis and young age. Awareness of HE should be raised in order for preventive measures to be taken earlier.

This updated and upgraded S2k guideline deals with the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea, which is a common, chronic inflammatory skin disease mostly affecting the face. Initially, rosacea is characterized by recurrent erythema, telangiectasia and flushing. Later, the inflammatory component predominates, with persistent erythema with follicular papules, papulopustules and pustules. The development of phyma, which usually occurs on the acral localizations, is the most severe manifestation. For the treatment of rosacea, the interdisciplinary guideline committee, with representatives of the German Dermatological Society (DDG), the Professional Association of German Dermatologists (BVDD), the German Opthalmological Society (DOG), the Society for Dermopharmacy (GD), the Swiss Society for Dermatology and Venereology (SGDV) and the German Rosacea Aid e. V., recommends the avoidance of trigger factors and topical applications of metronidazole, azelaic acid or ivermectin. For symptomatic treatment of persistent centrofacial erythema, the topical vasoconstrictors brimonidine or oxymetazoline can also be used. Systemic therapy is recommended for therapy-resistant and severe forms of rosacea papulopustulosa. The drug of choice is low-dose doxycycline. Alternatively, low-dose isotretinoin can be recommended. Ocular rosacea should be treated with lid margin hygiene. For topical treatment, ciclosporin eye drops, azithromycin, ivermectin or metronidazole are suggested.

Background Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory cutaneous disorder affecting nearly 5.5 % of the adult population. Our aim was to evaluate the prevalence and epidemiology of rosacea and perioral dermatitis (POD) in an ambulatory care setting. Methods We retrospectively analyzed medical data of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of rosacea or perioral dermatitis (POD) presenting at our university hospital outpatient clinic during a 3‐year period. Results Out of 1032 patients, 81.5 % were diagnosed with rosacea and 18.5 % with POD. Overall prevalence was 1.4 % for rosacea and 0.3 % for POD. 69.3 % of the analyzed patients were female. Overall mean age was 49.3 ± 7.7 (1–92) years; the women’s average age was less than the men’s. Patients with POD were younger and predominantly female, whereas patients with phymatous rosacea were older and predominantly male. The most common phenotypes were papulopustular rosacea (68.4 %), erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (22.5 %), and phymatous rosacea (8.0 %). Special forms of rosacea were diagnosed in 15.8 % of the patients; the most frequent were ocular rosacea (6.9 %) and steroid‐induced rosacea (5.4 %). Conclusions The large patient cohort analyzed in our study provides a good estimate of the frequency of the rosacea subtypes, special forms and of perioral dermatitis in a hospital‐based outpatient care setting.

Ocular rosacea is a special manifestation of rosacea with unknown etiology. Eye involvement in rosacea patients is surprisingly common; however, it is often underdiagnosed, resulting in inappropriate treatment. We aimed to provide an updated epidemiologic perspective on ocular rosacea in Germany to improve patient care.Data of 777 rosacea patients were assessed using a detailed online questionnaire regarding ocular and skin symptoms, previous dermatological and ophthalmological consults, presence of type 1 hypersensitivities, and Demodex testing. All data were statistically analyzed.Most patients reported ocular symptoms (399/777, 51.4%), including red eyes (179/399, 44.9%), itching (187/399, 46.9%), sty or chalazion (309/399, 77.4%), and dryness (108/399, 27.1%). Ocular rosacea was confirmed in 149/309 cases who consulted an ophthalmologist (45.3%). A total of 159/399 (39.8%) had no pre-existing allergies. Eye involvement was significantly associated with the presence of skin symptoms (P 0.05), impacting patients' general well-being and overall treatment satisfaction. About half of Demodex-positive patients (21/45, 46.7%) showed ocular symptoms.Eye involvement in rosacea patients was common, often presenting with unspecific symptoms.

Demodex spp. mites are the most complex organisms of the human skin microbiome and were discovered more than 175 years ago, yet only little basic research is published about them. As they can be pathophysiologically relevant ectoparasites associated with rosacea, pityriasis folliculorum, and other inflammatory skin diseases, more research should be encouraged. Being a large microorganism or a tiny animal, there are no established basic methods to handle these mites. Here, we describe techniques enabling the extraction of Demodex mites from human skin, their analysis in different ex-vivo settings, the lysis of their exoskeleton, their preservation by freezing, and observation microscopically using specific fluorescent dyes or their inherent autofluorescence. These procedures should facilitate future Demodex research and fuel further the generation of knowledge. Furthermore it is intended to ultimatively enable the mite's cultivation in vitro and reveal its pathophysiological mechanisms.

Background Demodex spp. mites are the most complex member of the human skin microbiome. Mostly they are commensals, although their pathophysiological role in inflammatory dermatoses is recognized. Demodex mites cannot be cultivated in vitro , so only little is known about their life cycle, biology and physiology. Different bacterial species have been suggested to be the endobacterium of Demodex mites, including Bacillus oleronius , B. simplex , B. cereus and B. pumilus . Objectives Our aim was to find the true endobacterium of human Demodex mites. Methods The distinct genetic and phenotypic differences and similarities between the type strain and native isolates are described by DNA sequencing, PCR , MALDI ‐TOF , DNA ‐DNA hybridization, fatty and mycolic acid analyses, and antibiotic resistance testing. Results We report the true endobacterium of Demodex folliculorum , independent of the sampling source of mites or life stage: Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii subsp. demodicis . Conclusions We anticipate our finding to be a starting point for more in‐depth understanding of the tripartite microbe–host interaction between Demodex mites, its bacterial endosymbiont and the human host.

Rosacea is one of the most common skin diseases causing great distress in affected patients. For optimal patient care, epidemiological studies on disease distribution and clinical aspects are essential.The goal of this study was to provide an updated perspective on the current state of rosacea epidemiology in Germany.A cohort of 777 rosacea patients was assessed based on a detailed online questionnaire. Information regarding patients' demographics, course and clinical presentation of rosacea, trigger factors, dermatological consultations, treatment adherence and satisfaction as well as quality of life were obtained.There was a very high self-reported prevalence of primary and secondary rosacea features (flushing: n = 726, 93.4%; papules/pustules: n = 613, 79.0%; telangiectasia: n = 590, 75.9%; sub jective symptoms: n = 691, 88.9%). However, these clinical findings were often underdiagnosed by the treating physicians, while changes in temperature and ultraviolet radiation were potent triggers across all patients (86.3%, 77.7%, respectively). Disease-related quality of life decreased with the number of drugs prescribed as well as with uncontrolled symptom activity, and was reduced in female patients.This study is the largest German-based assessment exclusively focusing on rosacea patients covering a variety of clinical aspects to optimize patient care.

Seborrheic keratoses (SK) are the most common acquired benign tumor that affects middle-aged or older adults with great cosmetic concern. Clinical and histopathological similarities of SK and common warts have been addressed by investigating the possible presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA in SK. Previous studies suggested the association between α-genus HPV and SK located on genital skin, whereas the causal relationship between α-HPV and non-genital SK remains controversial.This study aimed to clarify the pathogenic involvement of α-HPV in the development of non-genital SK.We analyzed α-HPV DNA prevalence and HPV genotypes using a PCR-based microarray on 51 skin samples presenting with histologically confirmed SK without any malignant changes. Correlation between the histological subtype of SK and their HPV DNA-positive reactivity was also evaluated.Of 51 non-genital SK, two (3.9%) skin samples were positive for α-HPV DNA; high-risk HPV 31 and low-risk HPV 42 were found. Evaluation of HPV prevalence in different histological types of SK showed that both HPV-positive cases were acanthotic type; 14.3% of acanthotic SK lesions were positive, while all of the other types were negative for α-HPV.This study demonstrates that α-HPV positivity is very rare in common non-genital SK. The rare α-HPV-positive SK lesions histologically belonged to the acanthotic type, implying a potential impact of HPV infection on epidermal hyperproliferation. Although a possible association cannot be excluded, our findings suggest that α-HPV is not a major causative factor for non-genital SK.

Background: The Corona pandemic fuelled up skin pathogen challenges in young and adults, the antimicrobial efficacy of laundry detergents could be considered particularly. However, no available data focusing on the form of laundry detergent, additives and conditions affect the antimicrobial efficacy. This study simulated washing procedures to investigate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of laundry detergents.Methods and Results: Mimic laundry procedures were performed to treat Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and fungus, colony counting and propidium iodide staining were used to assess the antimicrobial activity. Powder detergent A, NaBO3*4H2O with the tetraacetylethylenediamine, 2Na2co3.3H2O with tetraacetylethylenediamine could achieve a > 5-log10 reduction of three microbial colony generation. Anionic surfactant sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate (SDBS) group had the strongest fluorescence intensity in three microbial propidium iodide staining.Conclusions: Powder form laundry detergents are superior to liquid form, peroxide-based bleaches and bleach activator in solid form, the solid surfactants with matched PH and alkyl chain length showed a considerable antimicrobial effect.
