1. Reducing the error rate of a superconducting logical qubit using analog readout information

Abstract

Quantum error correction enables the preservation of logical qubits with a lower logical error rate than the physical error rate, with performance depending on the decoding method. Traditional error decoding approaches, relying on the binarization (`hardening') of readout data, often ignore valuable information embedded in the analog (`soft') readout signal. We present experimental results showcasing the advantages of incorporating soft information into the decoding process of a distance-three ($d=3$) bit-flip surface code with transmons. To this end, we use the $3\times3$ data-qubit array to encode each of the $16$ computational states that make up the logical state $\ket{0_{\mathrm{L}}}$, and protect them against bit-flip errors by performing repeated $Z$-basis stabilizer measurements. To infer the logical fidelity for the $\ket{0_{\mathrm{L}}}$ state, we average across the $16$ computational states and employ two decoding strategies: minimum weight perfect matching and a recurrent neural network. Our results show a reduction of up to $6.8\%$ in the extracted logical error rate with the use of soft information. We consider an integro-differential counterpart of the $\sigma-$evolution equation of the type \[ \partial_t^2 u(t,x)+\mu (-\Delta)^{\frac{\sigma}{2}} \partial_t u(t,x)+(-\Delta)^\sigma u(t,x)=f(t,x), \] with $\sigma>0$ and $\mu>0$, that encodes memory of \textit{power-law} type. To do so, we replace the time derivatives $\partial_t$ and $\partial_t^2$ by the so-called Caputo-Djrbashian derivatives $\partial_t^\gamma$ of order $\gamma=\alpha$ and $\gamma=2\alpha$, respectively, and the inhomogeneous term $f(t,x)$ by the Riemann-Liouville integral $I^{\beta-2\alpha}_{0^+}f(t,x)$, whereby $0<\alpha\leq 1$ and $2\alpha\leq \beta<2\alpha+1$. For the solution representation of the underlying Cauchy problems on the space-time $[0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^n$ we then consider a wide class of pseudo-differential operators $\displaystyle (-\Delta)^{\frac{\eta}{2}}E_{\alpha,\beta}\left(~-\lambda(-\Delta)^{\frac{\sigma}{2}} t^\alpha~\right)$, endowed by the fractional Laplacian $-(-\Delta)^{\frac{\sigma}{2}}$ and the two-parameter Mittag-Leffler functions $E_{\alpha,\beta}$. Abstract

The forthcoming quantum Internet is poised to allow new applications not possible with the conventional Internet. The ability for both quantum and conventional networking equipment to coexist on the same fiber network would greatly facilitate the deployment and adoption of coming quantum technology. Most quantum networking tasks, like quantum repeaters and the connection of quantum processors, require nodes for multi-qubit quantum measurements (often Bell-State measurements), and their real-world coexistence with the conventional Internet has yet to be shown. Here we field deploy an MDI-QKD system, containing a Bell-State measurement Node, over the same fiber network as multiple standard IP data networks, between three nearby cities in the Netherlands. We demonstrate over 10 Gb/s data communication rates simultaneously with our next-generation QKD system, and estimate 200 GB/s of classical data transmission would be easily achievable without significantly affecting QKD performance. Abstract

In this paper, we derive suitable optimal $L^p-L^q$ decay estimates, $1\leq p\leq 2\leq q\leq \infty$, for the solutions to the $\sigma$-evolution equation, $\sigma>1$, with scale-invariant time-dependent damping and power nonlinearity~$|u|^p$, \[ u_{tt}+(-\Delta)^\sigma u + \frac{\mu}{1+t} u_t= |u|^{p}, \] where $\mu>0$, $p>1$. The critical exponent $p=p_c$ for the global (in time) existence of small data solutions to the Cauchy problem is related to the long time behavior of solutions, which changes accordingly $\mu \in (0, 1)$ or $\mu>1$. Under the assumption of small initial data in $L^1\cap L^2$, we find the critical exponent \[ p_c=1+ \max \left\{\frac{2\sigma}{[n-\sigma+\sigma\mu]_+}, \frac{2\sigma}{n} \right\} =\begin{cases} 1+ \frac{2\sigma}{[n-\sigma+\sigma\mu]_+}, \quad \mu \in (0, 1)\\ 1+ \frac{2\sigma}{n}, \quad \mu>1. \end{cases} \] For $\mu>1$ it is well known as Fujita type exponent, whereas for $\mu \in (0, 1)$ one can read it as a shift of Kato exponent.

Abstract

El presente trabajo se realizó en la finca campesina “La Gabriela” perteneciente a la CCS “Leovigildo Sierra” del municipio Pedro Betancourt en la provincia de Matanzas, con el objetivo de determinar sus potencialidades para producir alimentos y energía de forma sostenible y rentable. Para ello se realizó un diagnóstico agroecológico evaluando los indicadores de agrobiodiversidad y energía de la finca, utilizando los softwares Divers y Energía 3.01, obteniendo los principales indicadores con problemas en el agroecosistema proporcionándole a cada uno de ellos una posible solución. Asimismo, se calculó el Índice de Renovabilidad (IR) el cual es muy novedoso para evaluar el empleo de las diferentes fuentes renovables o no de energía que entran y salen del agroecosistema. Finalmente se destacaron las principales prácticas agroecológicas que se desarrollan en la finca y las posibles acciones que pueden llegar a transformarla en un sistema sostenible y gestionable agroecológicamente.

Abstract

NPR1, a master regulator of basal and systemic acquired resistance in plants, confers immunity through a transcriptional cascade, which includes transcription activators (e.g., TGA3) and repressors (e.g., WRKY70), leading to the massive induction of antimicrobial genes. How this single protein orchestrates genome-wide transcriptional reprogramming in response to immune stimulus remains a major question. Paradoxically, while NPR1 is essential for defense gene induction, its turnover appears to be required for this function, suggesting that NPR1 activity and degradation are dynamically regulated. Here we show that sumoylation of NPR1 by SUMO3 activates defense gene expression by switching NPR1's association with the WRKY transcription repressors to TGA transcription activators. Sumoylation also triggers NPR1 degradation, rendering the immune induction transient. SUMO modification of NPR1 is inhibited by phosphorylation at Ser55/Ser59, which keeps NPR1 stable and quiescent. Thus, posttranslational modifications enable dynamic but tight and precise control of plant immune responses.
